DD's College Community Assignment.....Suggestions???

Hi all! DD has to do a group project with kids in the community or global community. Besides bake sales,etc....can any of you think of any unique ideas?

Really, any age The group wants to do something "different" but is at a hault with different ideas. I thought maybe the wonderful disers could help

How about a literacy project. Not only helping kids improve ther reading skills but also collecting books for either their own library or one really in need depending on the economic situation of the kids.

Or collecting donations for the local animal shelter and then spending a Saturday volunteering at the shelter.

Just wondering what the kids ages are? An in school or out of school project?
Is there a goal of the assigned project? I know another poster said about the literacy project, that made our local paper. It really didnt cost the kids anything, they just bought in their old, used good condition books to share with others etc. Depends on the economic situation of the kids too etc. Maybe they could bring in their used good condition hats, gloves, coats etc. to donate, change collection for a global cause like Heifer International etc. , food drive,

How about a parents day out-if they can wait until December advertise it as babysitting while the parents go Christmas shopping.

Set up a children's choir, work on 5 or 6 songs and then have the kids perform at local nursing homes/assisted living places.

I am assuming that you mean the kids ages that will be doing the project? 18-19 year old college kids for an out of class project.

What about doing something with Big Brothers/Big Sisters?

We used to do a "community beautification day". Pick up trash, clean streets and such.

Sending gift boxes to troops over seas. Have the children draw pictures and send letters or cards. They can even help pack the box.

One project we did was to have the children at the local school draw pictures and cards for the elderly at the nursing home. Brought two groups together.
