I have a 10 YO who is a very fussy eater. He basically will only eat things like grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, you know, your basic kid's meals. I know that Disney kid's meals are only through age 9. If we use the DDP, he will be considered an adult but will not eat the food at all. Can we pay out of pocket for a kid's meal and not use a credit for him? I hate to use an adult credit for a kid's meal. How fussy do you think Disney will be about the fact that he is 10?

I'm not looking for any flames here and I'm not trying to be shady. I just want to get my son something that he'll eat and not feel like I'm wasting money. I know that buffet meals will solve our problem but we would like to do some table service, too. Has anyone had this experience with a 10 YO?

From my experience, we have had an easy time finding meals my ds11 would eat, just ask. Usually if there was something on the childs menu that my son liked they would just bring him an adult plate of it. We would also alter many of the adult meals to suit him. Example, if there was some sort of steak with gourmet "stuff" and sides with it, we would ask for the steak plain with mashed potatoes and carrots. Never had a problem substituting for something else we found on the menu, even the childs menu.

You could but there was plenty for a 10 year old to eat on the adult menu. The childrens meal choice is so limited and not enough to fill my 6 year old.

Thanks for the replies. My son is 10 and only weighs 50 lbs. Like I said he is very fussy about what he eats and always has been. A children's entree is enough to fill him. So I'm back to my original question. Has anyone ever ordered a kid's meal with a child over 9 and had a problem? How about paying OOP rather than using a dining credit?

Thanks,
Joanne

My dd 11 is a picky eater, and I just made sure to book quite a few buffets that I knew she would enjoy - then I'd book some of our favs - like LeCellier - and I would let her get a CS meal or snacks before our dinner (the McD before Canada for example) that way she got to eat what she wanted, as did we - and during the meal, she had some of her special books, or games, or she'd get a dessert, and drink -

then with her "unused" TS I will book a 2TS place for dh and I - last year she got very ill, and we had to cancel a few TS adrs, but she was doing great for our 2TS Cali Grille ressie - there they made us order a full meal, while all she wanted was the kids size flatbread (this was on the old plan with appys included in DDP) so they recommended we take the steak back in a to go container!!

btw the flatbread was the best meal she had that week!

so, in our experiences, the places work with you - and we work with dd...

So after re reading - basically - yes we did just as you suggested and it worked out fine!

you can pool those adult TS's and use them for the parents? I also have a plain eating 10 y/o boy and we just used the adult credit and had him order off of the kids menu. I didn't realize that WDW was letting us pool adult credits again. If so, this would be great for my husband and I. Anyone know for sure? Thanks. Susan

My 10 year old daughter would not eat a couple of adult meals last week. So we used two of those meals and my wife and I ate at Narcoosee's one evening. We paid OOP for her to eat a kid's meal twice since that is what she wanted.

Thanks again for the replies. I just wasn't sure how strict Disney would be on the 10 year olds who are still technically kids and want the kid's food. It's a bit ridiculous to me that it isn't under 12 like everywhere else especially at such a kid oriented facility.

Our DD is now 12, but still prefers simpler food, and not much meat. She's often ordered from the kids menu, with no problems. When we've been on the DDP we paid OOP for kids meals and after a few been able to go to a 2credit restaurant. Last month we were at the World, using DDE, and while at Spoodle's DD ordered Mac&Cheese from the kid's menu. Our server asked if she'd prefer an adult size order of Mickey Mac&Cheese. She didn't really care either way, but we said "sure". The Mac&Cheese was fine, but we were pretty surprised at when the check came: $17.99 for a plate of kid's Mac&Cheese, drink extra. Oh well, not the end of the world. In fact Spoodle's ended up being among our best meals of the trip!

That does not work. Adult TS and Child TS credits are separated, so all you'd have at the end is a bunch of child TS meals that you couldn't use.

In this instance the DDP may not be the most cost effictive way for you to travel. I'd take a look at the menus and see what you and DH want to order and how much it'd be for you to pay OOP. If you'd spend less than $113.97/night on your meals (CS and TS) then I'd rethink the DDP.

I know what you're saying(we're 3X/yr. visitors to WDW. What I can't understand is when people say that they paid OOP for their 10 y/0's meals(who is an adult on the DDP), saved the kid's adult credits and then the parent's used them for a 2 credit meal for themselves. Last I heard, you could only use your own credits, except at CS. Maybe I'm just not getting it. Wouldn't be the 1st time. Susan

I am so sorry, I totally misread your post!!!

Yes that probably would work. Saving your adult child's credit and then paying OOP for a meal for your 10YO OOP.

I am so sorry for misreading.

Several yrs. ago we were able to pool child and adult credits and use the kid's credits toward a night out while they were in the kid's club. WDW did away with that and I completely understand why. Next, as I understood it, each dining credit was actually assigned to a person, thus eleimiating any possibility of sharing. Did something actually change where now my husband and I could use our 10 and 12 y/o's unused credits(TS) for ourselves? Wouldn't the server notice that DS and DD are not present at dinner and that we do not have extra credits but the children do? So, can we pool these or as I understood it, should we not be doing that? I swear, I must need a 12 step program. I just can't seem to be able to figure this point out! Ugh! Thanks for your patience. Susan

When Disney separated the credits they only separated them out so far as Adult and Child Credits.

7 Nights at Disney, party of 4 would work out like this on the basic DDP: (all party members are above age 10)

Your KTTW card will note 4A on the DDP.

28 TS Credits
28 CS Credits
28 Snack Credits

Night one - Crystal Palace - 4 TS Credits
Night two - Tony's - Pay OOP for kids - 2 TS Credits
Night three - Narcoosee's (mom and dad night) - 4 TS Credits

so you've used 10 of your 28 credits, leaving you with 18 credits to use.

The credits are not tied in with the name of the guest, just how many adults and children are using the plan.

Does this help?
