This is a new question, at least I haven't seen it asked anywhere before:

I will be going to WDW for free dining with dh, dd (2) and my mother. We will be there for 6 nights and on the dining plan. It is likely that dh will be called home a couple of days early for work.

Question: do you think it will be okay for my mother, dd (2) and I to use his unused credits? Since dh and I are sharing a room, he will not be checking out so I believe his credits will be active until I check out at the end of our stay.

I would use them for either 2 TS sig restaurants or for my dd (2) who can eat for free but only off of my plate or buffet.

I'd hate to see his credits go to waste, even if we didn't pay for them.

Well, I think by the rules, dining credits are not supposed to be transferable? :confused3

I personally do not see a huge problem with it and really do not care what people do with their credits but I can also see it from Disney's perspective.

Disney probably prices the dining plan ( free paying rack rate or paid for ) under the assumption that a certain amount of dining credits will go unused.

Well, now my dh says I'd "be stupid not to use them." So I guess that's what I'll do.

I see nothing wrong with this at all. But that's my opinion. I'd do the same thing, as a matter of fact I will be doing the same thing. Enjoy

I can't see why you wouldn't be able to use them. I say go ahead and use them - especially since you were both in the same room on the same card.

I mean if I wasn't hungry one day and my husband wanted an extra meal I'd let him use my unused credit. I don't see a problem with it.

I am assuming that your daughter and mother are sharing your room?

They would be considered part of your "party" and the plan is expected to be flexible enough that (barring the use of child credits by adults) any member of your party may use the credits throughout your stay.

That's the way it seems to me. As long as they're adults using adult credits, all that matters is that they're registered in your room reservation as guests. The "non-transferability" applies to sharing the benefits of the Dining Plan with folks who aren't part of your hotel reservation registration.

In an interesting twist, we may be using my dh adult credit for our dd (2) child meals! :)

Thank you all for your input!

Well, yeah, you may be able to - but unless you're doing a lot of buffets and/or family-style service, your daughter eats free if she shares your food.

That exact scenerio happened to my family last year (though not with free dining; we purchased the DP). My mom, DS and I used all of my DH's leftover credits - over 3 days worth. We took the opportunity to try some signature restaurants. The credits were alotted to our room card and we just drew from them like they were a combined pool. There wasn't one problem or concern from anyone. Enjoy! It would be a waste not to use them if you can.

We just returned from a 15 day trip, 10 days of that on free dining.
we were originally a party of 9, then jumped to 17, then 15, back to 9 and finally ended with just the two girls and me. My 5 yr old was registered in an adjoining room with friends not on the dining plan. DH and DD17 in our room left 4 days early so DD16 and I had oodles of extra credits that were not going to be used for our room. We had no problem using the extra credits when we managed to find time to eat. We ate at least TS and one CS every day but we ran out of time...

We had made a practice of paying out of pocket for DD5's meals because she wasn't on the plan and often paid for snacks and counter service meals out of pocket thinking we might not have enough. WRONG...

On the last day our server suggested that we use a TS credit for DD5 as well and had no problem with a 5 yr old ordering from either the adult or the children's menu as all we had were adult credits. We did it because we couldn't bring ourselves to eat another TS meal that day - or find the time to do so if we'd wanted to. We had scheduled extra meals at the last minute to use the extra credits and still had some we never used.

That last night with 14 CS and 19SC (this doesn't even count the 8 CS that our friends who left the day before had left over and lost either) we used 8 counter services at the hotel's food court just before they expired at midnight, taking it all back to the room and spreading it out in a sort of smorgasboard to share among the 3 of us.

We'd just returned from closing Goofy's candy shop where the kids got a stash of candy that would make our dentist shudder we had left over plus made special rice crispies treats for the grandparents souveniers to bring back home with those 19 leftover snack credits. It had been a race to the hotel to even make it in time to use any of those CS credits before the food court closed. It's an experience that I won't soon forget.

We still had sodas and desserts from that last DDP night in the fridge 3 days later when we checked out.

Lesson learned, there really was too much food. Next time I'll use the credits every day of the stay as they are allotted. Paying OOP and saving them can really backfire on that last day or two.
