DDP for DVC question

Can someone please explain to me how the DDP would work for DVC members with a split stay of points and cash? Would we have to purchase two separate dining plans? One for the points days and one for the cash days? :confused3 TIA
 
Moving this to the DVC board. I am not entirely certain of the way it works when you have a cash reservation you made through DVC that is linked to your points stay. You would be likely to find more members who have booked that way on the DVC board.

I do know that if you have the cash reservation through CRO and the points reservation through MS that these are two separate reservations and you would have to add the dining plan to each one.

If it's points and cash through MS then they 2 are linked, you have to get it for the entire stay. If they are not linked, you can get one or the other but might have to move units and will have to check in again even if the same resort and unit type. If points and CRO, you can get it for the points and must meet the CRO requirements to get it for the cash portion. In this case they cannot be linked and you might have to change rooms and will have to check in again.

Thanks Dean and TDC Nala. We are planning on having them linked through MS so it should work out fine. I didn't really want to have to book two separate dining plans. Will they automatically link the cash/points room or do I have to request that they be that way?

You need to request it though they might do it automatically. They do have to be the same EXACT unit type and view. One can't be a l/o and the other a dedicated 2 BR for example.

We usually don't get to the resort until late afternoon or early evening but we have a full days worth of credits. The credits are good until midnight on your check out day so that means that we can use our credits the first day after we move. It also gives us a chance to eat all of the snacks and left overs that we bought while on the plan.

You would be surprised how many people don't use all of their credits.

I would agree that it tends to be a better value if you get if for a portion of the trip, however, that means you might have to change rooms and definitely will have to check back in again on the changeover day.
 
Thanks. It's the same room. We just want to save points by paying cash for the weekend days if we can. We definitely don't want to change rooms. The DDP worked fine for us during our last trip in march so DH wants to do it again. Thank you both for your help. I really appreciate it. :)

Have you reserved already or simply planning? If you've reserved already and linked them, I'm pretty certain you couldn't unlike them if you tried. If they are the same exact room type, you probably wouldn't have to change rooms if you approached it correctly but you sure would have to check in again.

We're just in the planning stages now. Can't book for a couple months yet. If I request that the reservations be linked together when I book we won't have to check in again will we? We didn't have to do that before but we weren't on the dining plan then. Does that make a difference?

As long as you get the same EXACT unit type you can ask them to link a points reservation and a MS cash reservation. For example, one can't be dedicated and one lock off even for a 2 BR and one can't be HH area and one not. If you link them, it's treated as one reservation and you won't have to check in again or risk changing rooms. But you will have to get the DDP for ALL days if you get it. That's a trade off you'll have to decide on. Good luck planning.
 
Also, you will need to book the cash portion through Member Services, possibly at the 25% member discount, or possibly not with a discount. That depends upon discount availability, which is not always available.

If you book through CRO for say, an AP discounted room, then they cannot be linked together. You can request to possibly be in the same room, but no guarantees. However, in that case you could then purchase the DDP for part of the stay, not all of it as mentioned above.
 
Thanks for your help Dean and Carol. I am booking the whole trip through MS and getting them linked. We wanted the DDP for the whole week without interuption so I'm glad to know we can do that. It would be nice to get that discount on the cash days too so I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks again.
