I'm a vegetarian (I only eat fish) and DBF eats meat. Is it worth it for us to get the DDP for our upcoming vacation? We are toying with the notion as I am thinking it may save us money as we like to eat at the TS restaurants and will be able to eat at one every day if we do the DDP. I am just concerned that it won't be worth it for me since most of the restaurants offer very few vegetarian options...any vegetarians out there done the DDP and care to comment? :hippie:

i'm a carnivore and my best friend is a veggiehead (eats fish too) and we did the dining plan. she had plenty to choose from and at sit downs the chef will almost always whip up something special if you ask.

We have used the DDP twice and we loved it both times. DH and I are veggies, I eat fish he does not.

Really it is fantastic to eat on property and there are some great veggie options, and you gotta eat either way. We found it to be a good savings even ordering the cheapest choices on the menu, and it is so much fun to not look at prices.

Check out the menus here or at allearsnet.com

I agree, my DH is vegetarian and we definetley thought it was worth it. He had a choice at every table service, although he did eat a lot of pasta, and at most CS there is also a decent veggie option. I guess the only thing is you don't make quite as big a saving as the veggie choice is always the cheapest on the menu.

DW is veggie and had no problem finding tons to eat on the plan. The TS meals are easy - especially if you eat fish. CS is sometimes a little trickier - cheese pizza seems to be the default choice at many and that gets old.

A lot will depend upon "how" vegetarian you are. Some folks need 100% certainty that there is absolutely no meat anywhere in a dish. It's not a problem at the TS restaurants, where your sever and sometimes even the chef will come talk to you about what is and isn't in a dish - they'll ask upfront if you have any special needs. But, again, it's a bit trickier at the CS places where there often isn't anyone knowledgeable to ask.

On the other hand, if you don't need to know such things as if the "Chicken Caesar Salad - no chicken" be made from scratch or will they just take the chicken off a pre-made salad, then life is pretty easy at CS.

Id say definitely yes also, especially since you eat fish (Im assuming that is shellfish as well). When we went in Nov my DD14 veggie but eats shellfish had no problems finding what to eat. Like another poster- she did eat alot of pasta tho. But she is picky and the actual vegetarian options on the menu did not appeal to her alot--but might to you. The DDP is great- go for it!

I've used it, and it worked great. I am actually vegan so I called ahead to work out what I could and could not eat/special order with the chefs, and all was well. :)

Hi
I used the DDP from 12/10 to 12/15 and found plenty to eat as a veggie. I gained 4 1/2 lbs!!! The DDP is great and so worth it. I eat seafood, so it was pretty easy for me to find enough to eat. The Mahi Mahi at the Coral Reef was just delicious. We're going back in August and will go to the Coral Reef again.

Thanks all! I am definitly leaning towards doing the DDP, however now I am just trying to figure out if its going to be cost effective.

I noticed that most of the TS restaurants have at least one seafood offering and a pasta (ahh good old pasta).

A little worried about the CS restaurants, however as one poster wrote cheese pizza is always a good standby.

Once again thanks to all my fellow veggies who responded :)

Though I'm not sure when fish became a vegetable (friendly grin), you should be fine. I'm vegetarian (ovo-lacto) and have always been fine on or off the DDP - if I ate fish, there would have been many more options. If you check out menus before going, you'll at least have an idea of what will work for you. If there is somewhere you really want to go that doesn't have an option listed, give them a call ahead of time and see if something can be worked out.

pescetarian - that's the word I was looking for.

CS is fine. Nearly every place that serves burgers also serves veggie burgers (Boca, I think). Most also have some other veggie choice too.

We've used the DP three times and love it. I'm vegetarian and so is my 2 yo DD (who is also allergic to eggs). Between one vegetarian adult and one meat eating, but not meat loving (ie: he didn't get a filet at ever meal) adult, most of our TS meals were between $85-100, so I still think you get a good value. If you eat fish, you have plenty of choices. WDW is pretty accomodating to vegetarians and people with dietary restrictions. If nothing on the menu appeals to you, the chefs will usually work with you to find something that you like.

As far as CS, the choices aren't too bad. Just do your research before hand. For example, Columbia Harbor House at MK has a couple pretty good vegetarian options. Tangerine Cafe in Morroco at Epcot is another vegetarian friendly CS restaurant. Pretty much every CS restaurant has one, if not more, veggie option. We do struggle with finding suitable food for our DD sometimes (meat, egg, and nut free...not to mention picky 2 yo approved), but I have personally never had an out of ordinary problem.
