DDP Changes For DVC???

In a recent conversation with a Manager at Member Services, I was given some positive information.

I was told that when the new single reservation upgrade goes into affect, the DDP for DVC will no longer require the DDP for the length of stay. Everyone on the reservation has to select the same block of days and you can't split the days during the reservation.

I asked a couple of bus drivers if this was true, but I was unable to confirm.

That sounds a lot like what we have now. Under the new system, when you change rooms or resorts, it would now fall under a single reservation number, but each block of that reservations could have different dining plans. Currently, they are separate reservation numbers for each block of rooms, and they can each have a different dining plan...unless there is another change...tomatoes, tomahtoes.

Great! So that means I can still do my split stays with DDP for a few nights and QSDP for the rest.

That is the only piece I was hoping would stay. But it also sounds like you can get the DDP for only a few nights of your vacation, even if staying in the same room. I think that is a piece that many owners might like!!!

It sound like that may be possible, but I doubt they'd make that allowance for DVC, unless they do so for cash guests...and I really don't see them allowing it for cash guests on a package.

Everyone on the reservation has to select the same block of days and you can't split the days during the reservation.

This is why I think it won't really change...typical Disney ambiguous wording. What constitues a "block" of days, and why cant you chose a block of two day early in the reservation, then another block of two days later in the reservation? That is why it sounds like it is exactly what we have now, only worded a little differently, no picking and chosing during the same actual reservation in the same room.

You can have the DDP at the beginning of your reservation, at the end of the reservation or for the entire reservation. If you decide to have it for 4 days at the start of the reservation, all registered guests must have it for the same days.

In effect, that means you'll get that many credits, right? So technically you could use them however you wish during your stay. Any idea when this upgrade will go into effect?

Unknown when the credits will expire. I was told that the changes will happen with the software upgrade scheduled for the Fall. So maybe next year.

Please remember that my information only came from one source so they may be incorrect. It would be nice if it happened.

That would be surprising to have a shorter option given the current rules and system and Disney's history. What they have done is allow people to drop the first and/or last day on other similar programs. I would be confident that IF they allowed a shorter time, it would begin when you got the cards on a given day and end on MN of the last day of the program. We'll see. It sure would be nice to have more flexibility given that DVC stays tend have more people come and go and given the larger capacity of some of the units where more than 1 family may be involved.

We are arriving late on the first day of our trip and since checkout is at 11:00 on the last day of our trip, those two days on DDP would be a waste. For that reason, we will not do the DDP. Remember that the DDP is for the number of nights you stay not the number of days and you can use them any way you like. You would then only have one day's extra meals, so you could have two TS meals or two CS a couple of the days to make up for the one day difference. Have three meals in a day instead of two or try a signature restaurant. Just some food for thought!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the DDP was rendered by night, not by day. By that I mean that your credits are calculated by the number of nights you are staying, not the number of days. Is that correct? If so then technically you will have already dropped one of the 'shoulder' days.

I hope this rumor is true. I would love to do just a few days Deluxe and then the remainder regular. We stay for too long (15 days) to do deluxe the whole time - too many calories and too expensive!

I'm no expert (or even apprentice) on the technology behind the KTTW but it seems to me that it should be fairly easy to just assign credits to an account and have them available for use all through a stay. Obviously it's a whole other ballgame from a policy perspective, but it should be do-able to assign a reduced number of credits as opposed to the full stay number of credits.

This would provide a great deal of flexibility, probably more than Disney would want to allow.

Of course it is possible, but what's in it for Disney? The profit in the DDP isn't in letting people pre-pay a discounted for one or two of their most expensive meals during a vacation. The profit is in making them have the plan for the entire stay and then not using all the credits or eating the full meals because they are already too full.

I'm sure it's workable but I see no reason that Disney would do this. There have been other similar programs in the past and the most you could do was drop the first and last day and they generally would only let you drop one of the other in most cases.

It would be great if you could add a DP for the first half (or part) of your trip and have the credits be good for the entire stay.

If Disney allowed this, we could add the DxDDP for the first two nights of our six-night stay and then enjoy a TS dinner every night. Under current pricing, that would get my family 6 dinners at LeCellier for a total of $372, plus tips. That breaks down to $62/meal which would include appetizers, entrees and desserts. And, don't forget to throw in the 16 snack credits and 4 refillable mugs! THAT would be a bargain! I am fairly certain that this would NEVER happen.

On another note, I wish we could add the premium or platinum plans. I don't really understand why we can't just pay the stated rates for the plan as Disney would be making the same amount of money as they get from a cash-ressie guest. Perhaps it's because cash-ressie guests have to pay rack rate to get it and we're considered as already having a discount?---Kathy

That is exactly why I have never tried the DDP! We always stay about 14-16 days and that would definitely be too expensive and more food then we need to be eating!
