Hi all-- has anyone done a split stay on the DDP recently? Is it still a big pain to do? Thanks!

Well, you do need to buy tickets for everyone in your party so that's a drawback to the DDP for both parts of your split stay. I think that some people do it on the front end and buy their tickets for the whole stay and then do room only on the back end of the stay OR they do 1 day tickets on the back end use them for a future trip.

So, pretty much still a big pain, huh? I kind of figured it. Thanks!

You know, it really stinks that there's not some way to accommodate guests who want to do a split stay without all this rigmarole. :confused3 I'm trying to figure out now whether I want to keep my split stay plans and pay an extra $300+ for a one day pass for everyone in my family, or whether I'd prefer to just stay at the Yacht Club (which would save me $575+) or just at the Wilderness Lodge (which would cost an extra $750+).

You can just do the DDP at the front end of your trip and then pay OOP for your meals on the back end. Your DDP credits are good until midnight of the day you check out of your first hotel. Load up on your TS meals at the beginning of your vacation and save more inexpensive character breakfasts, lunches or counter service meals that you'd pay OOP for towards the end of your trip. You can buy snacks with any left over credits and keep them in your room for the last part of your trip.
How long are you staying? By the 5th day of our trip, we'd have been fine with snacks and light meals the rest of the time and we enjoy eating out.
OR you can spend the $300 for the 1 day tickets for your family and then save them for a future trip- you can upgrade them to meet your ticket needs at that time. You won't lose that money, you just won't be using them now.

I'm cheap so I'd go with the YC and save the almost $600 if you have your heart set on the DDP the whole trip and skip the split stay (or just do one night at WL on my last night or have a meal there to check out the resort).

Thanks for the suggestions-- does that mean then, that I would pay the extra $150 or so per ticket to upgrade from a 1 day pass to a 7 day pass for my next trip? Or are you saying I'd have to buy 6 day passes to add to the 1day passes we'd already have? Just want to make sure I'm doing the math right... :teacher:

You'd get to pay the extra $152.xx per adult and extra $124.xx per child to make your 1 day MYW ticket a 7 day MYW ticket. Hope that helps.

By split stay do you mean staying on property, going off property (like for a cruise or to the beach) and then coming back on, or do you mean splitting one continuous on-site stay between two different resorts? If it's the latter, you might look into renting points to stay at a DVC resort. What we are doing in Sept. for a Saturday-to-Saturday stay is renting points (from a DISboard member) to stay at BCV Sun. night -Thurs. night (points for Fri. & Sat. nights are double and cost-prohibitive to me as a result). Staying on points at a DVC resort entitles us to buy the DDP (no MYW ticket purchase required; we'll buy those from a discounter). On the first night (Saturday) and the last night (Friday) we will stay at POP on room-only ressies made through CRO and Disney will transfer our luggage for us. Our DDP credits will be good from Sunday through midnight Friday. Any meals we eat on the 2 Saturdays will be paid for OOP. Not sure if this sort of plan would work for how you want to split your stay but I throw it out there for your consideration if it does. I think it's fairly convenient.
