I was reading on another board that if you have the DDP all members must be at check in. What if you have someone coming in for a few days and staying with you. I thought you had to add them for the full length of trip but they won't be there when you check in. Does this only apply to non-dvc rooms? I am a little confused. My neice is still thinking about joining us for maybe a few days but now I don't know if I can let her or not since we are getting DDP. Please let me know. Thanks everyone.

It really is a quandary, and unfortunately, due to how some guests have tried to exploit the plan, there may not be a good answer for you. Yes: The dining plan must be purchased for your entire party, for the entire duration of your trip, and yes, they all must be available to be presented at check-in so that it can be assured that you're not trying to get away with a phantom guest. It therefore really doesn't work well for folks who are planning on having additional guests come later. I suppose until they start limiting credits purchased at the child rate to child meals only, there won't be a good answer for this except to take your chances. Personally, it's enough to have me forego the Dining Plan when I have such circumstances.

I just spoke to MS and they said to just make sure that it is noted on the reservation that the additional person doesn't come until a later date. You still have to pay for DDP for the whole stay but atleast she won't have to magically appear at check in. I am glad I do not have to tell her that she can't come to stay with us.

Does this mean you have to pay for her DDP for your whole stay or just for her whole stay? We are going to be there for 10 days and my son can only come for 4 if at all. I don't want to have to pay for him for 10 days but would be fine with paying for the 4. We still don't know if his college schedule will allow him to come at all so haven't even discussed it with MS.

The Disney Dining Plan requires that the plan be purchased for all members of the party for the entire duration of the reservation. (You may want to look into splitting your reservation.)

Once you find out for sure when he is coming, or for how long, you may want to call back to split your reservation into two parts. My son is going down in a few weeks with his girlfriend, and they are splitting their stay between BW and SSR. When I called to add the Dining Plan to his ressie, the CM asked me if I wanted it for the entire time or just for one reservation (at one resort, but not the other). I answered that I didn't know you could do this and I wanted it for both, but she replied that yes, you can split your ressie if you don't want the DDP for the whole time.

Interesting. So does this mean anyone with a DVC DDP could split a current ressie and only get the DDP for one of the ressies? Doesn't seem like something they would do.. would you be guaranteed the same room?

You wouldn't be guaranteed the same room, but it is very rare when you'd have to move.
