DDE/TIW Card Help

I often wonder what Disney's reasoning is for changing things like that. I mean, why would it need to be TIL instead of DDE? What could have been wrong with DDE? :confused3

DDE sounds to much like DDP, still the best deal in town no matter what they call it, IMHO.

Yep! That is why! On one of our trips, shortly after the instigation of the DDP several of our waiters were confused when we tried to use the DDE card, especially the waiter at CRT. This trip with was a lot better - the only problem is that some of the waitstaff aren't used to the new name.

What are the benefits of TIW?
I know it is a discount, but how much and where?
Thanks!

20% discount at almost all Disney operated table service restaurants and at counter service areas at the Value Resorts and Animal Kingdom Park. Someof the privately operated DtD restaurans accept it, too.

When used at a table service restaurant, an automatic 18% gratuity is added, at least it is supposed to be. I have had servers that forgot and had to add the tip in myself, so check your receipts.

I remember a couple of years ago I was researching the DDE (didn't buy it) and they had a website. I'm thinking of maybe using the TiW this time but would like to see the restaurants that take it etc.
Can somneone post a link to their web site?

AllEars has a fairly complete list here...and there is also a nice little two-page PDF chart listing all the discounts for AP/DVC/TIW holders).

Wow!! They've really improved the process since the last time I purchased the DDE card. Let's hope by the time I buy my next Annual Pass, it's a little more durable than those paper things!! Never made sense to me that a 3-5 day pass purchased at the Disney Store is plastic, but an Annual Pass to use for a whole year is only paper!

PLEASE Disney... do NOT put the AP on that same USELESS piece of plastic you use for room keys.

My AP works fine trip after trip. And does not require "invalid" handleing to continue to work.

My Disney room key must be treated like a delicate creature. It cannot come in contact with a cell phone, a credit card or any number of things.

WHY? EVERY other room key I get can be randomly tossed in my bag and continue to work. The Disney key quits working if not treated as if it were fine china!

We purchased the TiW in December when we bought our annual passes and the process was quick and easy. After we checked in at SSR we took the boat over to Guest Relations at DDT so we could use our TiW discount for lunch. We were there for four nights and by the time we left the $60 charge for the TiW was recouped. The rest of the year will be gravy. We love the fact that the TiW applies to alcoholic beverages and that we can share an appetizer and dessert and get the discount on both. We weren't as inclined to eat too much as we did when we went on the DDP.

We used oours in Jan they would put 18% at the bottom but it is not part of the total unless you decide to add it in. I just add what I want in the tip column as usual. Usually 20% or better....

I was wondering about whether the gratuity would automatically be added at counter service restaurants as well. The disney website says that an 18% gratuity is automatically be added on all bills when TIW is used. That is fine for table service or at the pool bar, but would erase any savings at counter service meals. Does anyone know for sure?

There is no gratuity added at counter service locations.

I don't think any of the pool bars accept the TIW card.

As Chuck S said, there is no gratuity added at CS locations, but for the most part (almost all at least) the TIW discount isn't given at CS, only at FS restaurants. (Seems like there may be one or two CS that take it because there is no TS available at that location, but I'm not positive about that.) FS is the only place we have used our TIW and we find it well worth it.

Yes...it's most (but not all) table service locations, some (most?) resort lounges, and a few CS locations - mainly the value food courts plus Flame Tree and Pizzafari at Animal Kingdom.

I just got my TIW card in the mail last week, and it's plastic. Maybe the ones printed onsite are Tyvek?

Hmm...that could be. If you order park tickets online and have them sent to you, you get plastic tickets as well. I wonder if its because the plastic travels better in first class mail or something.

Although, now that you can get the TIW card at any guest relations window, there is very little reason to get it in advance and mailed to you, other than to save a small amount of time, or if your first meal is at a resort before you go near a park/DTD...

I called the phone # in the annual pass booklet where it lists the discount. I must have ordered at the right time, b/c it took less than 2 weeks to get here in the mail. I ordered it mid-January, and it expires at the end of Feb. 2010. From what I have read, they are good for 13 months from the time you order.

I ordered mine by phone b/c for this next trip we're getting in late and are planning to go to the parks at opening the next morning. I didn't want to stand in line at Guest Services to get the card since we're planning on using it that day for lunch, and I like to see the opening show at MK. If we had been arriving in the afternoon like we usually do, I probably would have just gotten it on my way in to the park on arrival day.

Hope this helps! :goodvibes
