We will be staying at SSR Dec. 8-12 and are considering getting the DDE for this trip. (We'll be buying Annual Passes.) Are alcoholic beberages included in the 20% discount? I thought that they were but I just saw a link on another thread that listed the restaurants giving the 20% DDE discount and there was some fine print on the chart that said that alcoholic beverages were not included. Can anyone direct me to an answer?

I just bought a DDE card today at Epcot. I was told when I bought it that alcoholic beverages are included. I don't see any fine print on the chart I was given. It does say; "Certain restrictions apply during Holidays and special events, please check with the restaurant when you make your reservations. DDE discount cannot be used in combination with any other discount and not valid for Fantasmic Dinner Package, Food and Wine Festial dinners, or Candlelight Packages."

Thanks klynn. That's what my original thinking was. I'm glad that you included that quote because we will be going to the Candlelight Processional in December so I'll have to figure that into my decision. I hope that you have a great time and that the weather isn't too bad for you.

You may be mixing up DDE and DDP. DDE includes alcoholic beverages in the discount. DDP does not include alcoholic beverages.

No, I realize that the DDP doesn't include alcoholic beverages. That was the plan that we had last April. I was just interested in trying the DDE this time because we'll probably get Annual Passes and because a number of poster have said that the DDE was a good value for them.

We have found the DDE to be a great value for us because of the alcohol. It cannot be used at the kiosk stands (i.e. slushies in France at Epcot) but it can be used with your meals and at most of the hotel lounges.

Just wanted to note that it can't be used for pool bars either (or the Dawa or High Octane).

The DDE card is great. We have had it for years. It includes everything. It is the only one that I have found to include alcohol. The card pays for itself..We have used it at the Yaghtsman Steakhouse bar and received the 20%.

I have used it at the Pop Century pool bar so it may be good at the ones for value resorts. Values don't have a lounge.

Thanks everyone. It looks like this is the way we will go. In August we will be going back with our children and their spouses or significant others. We'll be a party of 8 so this should work out well for us.

I know the inside lounge/bar at Pop did accept it and it was on the list. They have since closed that bar. That is interesting that they accepted it at the pool bar. I should try next time. I know the bar at OKW is not on the list, but they accepted it too, but it's sort of an inside/outside bar that services both Olivia's and the pool.

That bar is called Gurgling Suitcase and it serves as OKW's lounge. You can not only use your DDE for drinks there, but you can order food from Olivia's (if you eat it in the bar - no takeout).

FWIW,

DDE is not applicable to the CP dining packages, or the Fantasmic Dinner packages.

Also, as now the 'gratuity' is included when you use DDE (no matter what the party size), we're actually saving money! And we're very careful not to double tip- because the 'tip' line still appears on the credit card receipt.

We used to tip more than the DDE discount amount cheerfully. Now that the choice is taken out of our hands, we tend not to add additional tip unless the service is outstanding.

On the positive side though- we haven't had to have the 'gratuity' reversed due to sub-standard service either.

HTH!

I'm thinking the same way about the tipping. We usually tip at least 20% so we'll be saving a little money and it will already be calcualaed for us. For the majority of our dining experiences we have had excellent to outstanding service and our tips have reflected that so we'll probably be adding a little more for those special servers.
Thanks for the heads up about not inadvertently double tipping. The checks and credit card receipts can get confusing.

I know exactly what fine print you're referring to: that is the AP discount page, where it says 10% here, 20% there, alcoholic beverages not included. Rest assured, the DDE card does include alcohol discounts. I don't drink much alcohol in the summer months because it is just too darn hot, but I did have a drink at the Ohana lounge last month and the DDE was honored.

Okay, I get where the confusion was then.

The DDE card is not an AP discount. It is a separate discount program that is available to AP holders. It is also available to Florida residents who are not AP holders. AP discounts and DDE are entirely different things.
