I just got off the phone purchasing my DDE card. I was prepared buy 2 cards @ $60 each, one for me and one for my daughter. We both have vouchers. I was told that I could buy a second card for any member of my family over 21 who lives with me for $25. It does not have to be a spouse. Since my daughter lives with me and is over 21......I got two cards for $85 instead of $120!!!!! :goodvibes

It used to be the second card was good only for a spouse. The CM told me that since they raised the price and started charging for that second card, it can be any member of my household over 21.

We did get two cards last year, back when the second card was free. Got if for my dh. But, to be honest, we never used it. If the first card is good for up to 10 people in a party, I would think that you can safely go with just the one card.

My adult daughter lives with us while working and going to school at nights. Financially it didn't make sense for her to have her own place, she is never home!!! But she does some trips with us and some on her own, so she wanted her own card. So we needed two cards. Hubby didn't want one because we are always together!

And that is a great 'for instance' case of why two cards would be needed!

I know this may not sound nice, but is this a "thanks for letting me spend $85 for what was $50.00 last year?!" I know for some your savings adds up nicely with this, but it now takes a lot longer to get to the breakeven point. For me having to spend $425.00 before I realize any savings is a significant amount of money. :confused3

As an AP holder for many years who is not a FL resident I'm just glad to be able to buy DDE at all. We will certainly break even and all of the meals before and after the break even point are discounted so I'm not complaining.

The second card is supposed to be for spouses or domestic partners. Perhaps the extra charge was added because so many who don't fit that description were getting the second card?

We ordered our new cards in Dec so I have a year to decide but I think I will probably pay the extra $25. Although my husband and I have most of our meals together, sometimes I'm at WDW before he arrives or sometimes we do split up.

I'm still pretty happy even though I have to spend $60 rather than $50 in June to renew my card. As I said before, my dh never took his out of his pocket, so it's a non-issue for me. I'm the one that uses it, so only need the one card.
I think we find that when Disney finds that something 'works' they tend to up the ante, so to speak. When they found how popular the DDP was, they made it available to DVC people since we tend to not eat in the parks as much as Disney would like. So...now we do. Or you get real idiots, like me, who have the DDE card and will still book the DDP...and use both during one trip.
I'm just happy to have the option. If I feel it's going to work for me, then I ge it...if not, well I just won't buy it.

just a question? My DDE card is up in April, how do I go about renewing if my AP is expired and I do not want to renew it til I have a definite trip planned?
(parents are ill so I can't travel in the near futrure) Do I have to wait to renew my pass to get the 60$ rate? Thanks ahead for any info! :wave2:

Diane, if you're an idiot then so am I because I'm looking forward to trying the DDP on the DVC portion of a trip too and we will certainly still use use DDE for any meals not covered by the DDP.

You have to have an AP or voucher to order it if you're not a FL resident. But if you're not sure when you're going back why would you want to get DDE anyway? :confused3 The $60 fee is for new or renewals for AP holders. No advantage to renewing.

 BCV23 I am laughing at myself! :rotfl2: You are exactly right, I will just purchase new DDE cards when we purchase new AP's! I guess I was thinking is the 60$ rate time limited but if it just an increase for AP holders it won't matter when I get them, Thanks again for taking the time to answer a :goofy: question (no offense to Goofy) :wave2:

Hey, if we can't laugh at ourselves what fun would it be! :sunny:

Besides there are no :goofy: questions on the DIS, right?

I am a newbie to the DDE card. I was expecting to pay $120. I even argued with the CM that I should pay $120. So I saved $35. There will be 24 of us going in March. I am sure I will get my money back. :)

Just wanted to make sure you knew that you can only use the DDE card on 10 people at a time. If all 24 of you are dining, the discount will only be for 10 of you. Still a great amount of $$$ saved though.
