DDE card came but...

I've got a question re: expiration date.

I got my first DDE card last year, and it expires November 30, 2006. Of course THIS year, our trip is in December. I'd like to renew, but I'm wondering...

...if I call up before our trip to renew, will it expire at the end of the month when I purchase it? (Like, if I order it in October, will it be good through October of 2007? Or November?) Or can I explain that it will be for our December trip and try to get it valid through December of NEXT year (since we may be planning for a December 2007 trip as well, and I like to get my money's worth)?

Last year I picked up the letter for a temporary card, but I'd prefer not to do that this year because our December trip is very short and MK focused for the first few days. If that's the only way to get a Dec. expiration date for next year, we'll have to make the trek to the front gates of Epcot, but if I can avoid that, I'd like to.

We have been renewing our DDE ever since this plan became available to us Florida residents, and for the life of me, I cannot recall the EXACT set of circumstances regarding renewal dates. My feeble mind tells me that the card goes from expiration date to expiration date. Since we are here so much, there has never been a question as to when we should renew it. The experation date approaches, and we just renew. I think that there may be a 30 day grace period, or at least there used to be, meaning that you had 30 days to get a new card at the reduced renewal rate. After that 30 days, it would just be like getting a brand new card at a higher rate.
So, I guess it would mean that if you are going on December 15th for instance, and your card expires at the end of November, you should still be able to use it without renewing it at that time. Can anyone out there that renews it regularly confirm this?

Waaaaait....there's a special rate for renewal? I didn't know that. That changes things a little, lol.

Please be patient with me as I try to work this out, but, from what you're saying, I would guess that the DDE works like an Annual Pass...your pass is good for a year, and if you renew at the reduced rate, it's good for another year from that original date. (In our case, our card was purchased for November 2005, is good through November 2006, and then if we renew will be good through November 2007...right?)

I was thinking that I was paying the regular rate and not really renewing...it would be more like just buying a new card, and I wanted to stretch it as far as I could take it through next year, since we wouldn't be using it until December 1 of this year anyway.

I think that the cheaper renewal rate is only for FL residents not AP holder.
