DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I used to golf with my mom at a 9-hole par 3 course. I did "okay" I suppose, but most times when I'd play a "real" course, I might get the odd par or bogey, but... also (more often) I'd double, triple,... octuple (eight), nonuple (nine) and decuple (ten) (or more) several holes. I didn't want to subject my playing partners to my ineptitude. How boring is it to hit off the tee... and then not have another stroke until your playing partner has whiffed at his ball half a dozen times? I'm holding up my playing partner(s) and anyone playing behind us. Not fair to anyone. Mom's too old to golf anymore. I sold my clubs.
I get that. For me, there's usually one shot during a round that I hit the right way, and goes where I want it to. And then I think, "Hey, I've figured it out!" and I get suckered into playing again, chasing that high through all the whiffs.

I get that. I played an 18 hole course with some friends. I'd been gifted a new driver and... dang if that didn't get me one beautiful drive on one hole. The rest... well...

I actually wish I was working today (or at least my wallet does).
Several hundred jobs applied for; less then 20 even bothered to acknowledge the application; only one initial phone interview with no follow up; state unemployment officially ended...
Really enjoying the holiday
Prayers for a resolution to your issues. It is hard out there. My son went through 2 months of unpaid training with Teach for America and relocated to Jacksonville, Florida. After 1 month teaching he will be out of work tomorrow because the school hired 7 too many teachers based on their enrollment projections. Last in first out. Now he has a year lease and no job. He does like Florida though so if he can find something he will be content. No jobs in Appalachian KY that would cover his student loan payments. I just keep telling him God has a plan for him. Been in his situation more than once and it is uncomfortable to say the least.

Oh man, that's brutal. Sorry to hear this news. Hoping and praying he can find something quickly.

Morning, Gents! Again, been a while but a lot has happened and I don't know where to being. I have to start somewhere, so I'll start with the bad. We almost lost my mom couple of weeks ago. She was found on the floor, and while she was somewhat conscious, she was starting to become unresponsive. My niece and her husband came in and found her and called 911. My brother called and said the doctors told him that his might be it. They got her into ICU and she pulled through. She's now out of the hospital and into a rehab facility getting stronger and gaining some weight. She's confused and losing her memory. My dad, while still somewhat healthy, is starting to have issues, so us three brothers are doing what we can from where we are. I had planned on heading out to New Mexico Labor Day weekend, but just as I was about to leave the house at 3am I got a text from Southwest Airlines informing me that my flight had been cancelled. Hate that. I now am heading out October 17th for about 3 days. I have to wait that long because I have a show that opens in under 2 weeks. This is a great segue into my next point: The show. I'm in a local production of Evita, opens on Sept. 25th. I have been consumed by rehearsals for this show, so I've not had time to do much of anything else. This is going to be a great show. When the tickets went on sales it sold out in one day. It was so popular that we added two shows, which also sold out. This is why I have to wait until Oct. 17th to fly out see my parents. That weekend is the sweet spot because my next show, Newsies, opens just over a month after Evita closes. Busy man. On to my last point: Work. I finally got promoted. I'll be a Surgical Coordinator for a Neurosurgery Office. I signed the acceptance letter 2 weeks ago but had to wait until Friday to announce it because the surgeons had to be told first. So after much waiting I have my new job. I'll start on Sept. 22nd. So excited. With that, I'm off to a 9 hour tech rehearsal. Have a good day, guys.

Glad your mom is improving but sorry to hear about the issues. Aging is hard; seeing our parents age is harder. Congrats on the job promotion and break a leg in the productions (figuratively speaking).
