DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I guess it's Monday, or just another day of the week. We've managed to get above freezing again. I take myself for a walk each day, but wouldn't make it far without thermals.

Jesus, one level under MLS? I think we could get a game. Darcy's at the back, I'm in goal, Norm, you're gonna have to be our midfield general mate.

I think you have a bit too much confidence in me. But, thanks for that ego boost at the expense of American soccer. :lmao:

Ok, I have to ask, "Dan's Hammers singing bubbles?" I have an image of hammers singing a song about bubbles.

Dan's team is West Ham United, which he then selected for me to support. Based on my immense fandom, they were not relegated last year. Wikipedia's has an interesting read on the origin on the "hammers", assuming it's true. Home games play the song "I'm forever blowing bubbles" and release soap bubbles from above onto the field, which sounds good coming from 60K singing drunk Britons.

Thanks, though I'm not officially planning a trip yet. I'm figuring we'll start picking dates once I can get permanent work...which I'm hoping will be soon.

I'm always planning trips, regardless of dates. It gives me something to do.

You have had the benefit of only watching them a wee while.
West Ham were always famous of having a bit of a soft belly, i.e if they 2-0 up, and the other team scored, you would put money on them losing. They are a lot steelier in the last year or so, we don't give up leads and we get points out of games we don't really deserve anything out. It's probably because we are lot fitter than we were.

It's me leading by example. They are trying to keep up with my fitness routine. :lmao:

I can't speak for the rest of the planet, but I can give you my view.
Most of the teams in the MLS would be OK/good in the third tier of English football. The top teams maybe LA & Seattle would last maybe a season in the Prem, but would likely be relegated, and would be a good second tier team same level of someone like West Brom, or C Palace. It's painfully slow, the passing is a bit meh, the keepers are actually pretty good. Atlanta seem to be doing the right way, picking younger better players, but are they shining because of the opposition? No one really knows.

To be fair though I have watched the Prem (which in MHO is the best league in the world) live for 20 odd years, the speed of the game is breathtaking, and you don't quite get it on TV which gives the illusion that all games look the same speed, and they really aren't.

I guess the best analogy would be the old NFL Europe. Most of the best players in that league couldn't cut it in the NFL either because they were too old, or just not quite good enough, hence them being in the league in the first place. Rooney being a good example. Was a Marquee signing for DC Utd, left there to go to an average Championship (2nd tier) team, didn't last a season. I'm sure in 20-30 years it will be a contender for one of the good leagues in the world, but right now it's miles off.

I know some guys on here think its better than that, but that's my honest view. It's just too young.

I'm not knowledgeable or qualified enough to give any sort of analysis. I'm guessing you're right about the speed, similar to watching a tennis professional match in person vs tv. The speed & power is amazing. Back to soccer, I noticed the difference in ball handling. EPL players, even worse teams, can handle the ball. In MLS, it seems to be limited to long passes. I think the MLS uses the recycled tires as opposed to natural grass. Would that have anything to do with it?

I don't think American soccer will catch EPL in 20 years. As long as our athletes are drawn to other sports, specifically the NFL, there just won't be enough athletes of that quality. American soccer refuses to set up tiers in any professional league, and we are going to stay with the playoff format. But, it is fun having players like Rooney & Beckham stop by for awhile.

Spectre, never seen it. Still haven't. Started watching Montreal Yoo Toob videos.
I think it's better than Quantum of Solace. But very few Bond films are better than Skyfall.
Sooo....just around the corner, right?
Two days drive. Do-able.
I admit that I'd not heard the term "Mercator projection" before, so I had to look it up. Once I looked it up I recognized it. And that's the problem, people aren't understanding what they are seeing/doing/speaking. They just assume something because they are told rather than looking it up to understand it.
Oh, man! Have you hit the nail on the head.
I see sooooooooo much of that! People making claims and totally buying into it because "they" said so.
The expression "It's on the internet so it must be true" used to be a joke, or sarcasm. Now it's becoming gospel for a lot of people, most of whom should know better.

Frankly mate, you're on fire (except it sounds amazing, and makes the hairs on your neck stand to attention)

Again, a great point. And if you look at 2nd tier/3rd tier, there is a lot of 'hoofball'. I don't think the grass has a ton to do with it, plastic pitches give a higher bounce so tactically it would be better to keep it on the deck.

Hey, Gents! Just an mid-day check in. Well, I got up to Boston to pick up my Android tablet, a Tab A, is that good? It's free, so I'm not complaining. Uh...I did take my camera and got over to the USS Constitution and the USS Cassin Young, but both were closed to visitors. The USS Constitution still being an active Navy ship is manned, but not accepting visitors. I was able to get some pictures, which I'll post if I like them.

Kind of thought the US Major League Soccer might not rank up high in other parts of the world, but had to ask.

I need to start walking more.

Ah, ok that makes so much more sense. Thanks

That's me, I love planning vacations, especially Disney. Though I think what I love most about it is the researching of the vacation and all the packages and different components to those packages, which, to me, is the best part of the planning process.

I agree, I don't think American soccer will reach the level of EPL in 20 years, though the American teams for World Cup soccer have done well, if memory serves...especially the women's team.

Skyfall ROCKED! One of the best hands down...in my opinion.

Oh totally! No reason he couldn't swing by for some coffee.

Love the covid season. DD woke up with a sore throat and flu-like symptoms. Now we’re waiting on a covid test in 30 minutes and I’m waiting for my manager to call me back to see if I work today or not.

Right??

Morning chaps form a grey and frankly, uninspiring London. This one of the three days at work between now and Jan 14, as I was supposed to be going to a certain Convention in a certain theme park in a certain part of the world. Sniff. Still have to take the vacation days though, as they expire in Feb.
Fighting the temptation just to goof off and leave my status to available and check in periodically. Montreal flights are stoopid (like £1600 one way economy per person stoopid) pricey at the minute, so might wait until the whole month schedule is released until I book. Otherwise its back to the drawing board and we may be round Steve's neck of the woods (ish), or Vanouver. Or Colorado. Which is nowhere near anyone.

I don't think American soccer will catch EPL in 20 years
Nor do I mate, I said one of the good leagues. It could be like the French league in 20 years. Where they have 2 or so proper teams and the rest is just chaff, but OK chaff.
The only leagues with any real depth are us, Ze Germans, Spain and Italy to a lesser extent.
I don't think the problem is talent draw to the other sports, as you can see, there are probably 2 or 3 English players on a starting 11. I think the issue is lack of decent competitions, so you are not going to get anyone to give up on the Champions league, or the Copa Libertadores, which would be more logical.
Might find out today. She's on a fast track.
Good luck buddy, fingers crossed.

They have indeed, but (putting tin hat on), no-one really gives a monkeys about Womens football. As much as they pretend. West Ham could win the Womens Champions League and they might get 20,000 there to watch. We have 60,000 turn up every other Saturday to watch us eke out a draw against (Insert random team name here). The Lady K gets very angry about this when I say it, and I am a woke soy latte drinking lib, but the Womens football league is awful to watch.

Morning, Gents! Not much to report today. Below are a few pictures from my trip to Boston. Enjoy.

Sorry about not being able to go. Things will get back to normal again.

I don't follow sports on a regular basis, so I can't comment on or about states and what not, but I think this is it.

I agree.

Morning all. Another day of retirement. Our local technical school is running a 10 week welding certificate program starting in January. I haven't heard back from a couple of interviews yet, and if I don't get either, then I may give it a whirl. I've also been offered an assistant tennis coach gig at the HS with dd's team. Since it's not football, it doesn't pay hardly anything and it's not full time to conflict with retirement board rules. But, I couldn't do the welding program as it would be tennis season starts in February.

Been watching a show on Amazon Prime called "Mountain Men". While it has the unnecessarily added tv drama voice over guy, it shows several guys living in remote locations off the land - hunting, trapping, farming. There are terrific pictures of the wilderness in Alaska, Montana, and Maine. It's certainly stoked my thoughts of living in a log cabin, albeit with a few extra comforts.

True

Also true.

It sounds good on the TV, and I'm sure even better in person.

I don't have that anymore with DVC. I'm only staying with points. And, my goal was to stay in all the dvc resorts, but they are building them too quickly and the points are too expensive at the new ones. I'd like to try the Grand Floridean because I've always wanted to stay there. After that, we'll probably stick to the Boardwalk, Vero Beach, or Hilton Head Island locations.

I like to plan days at the park, which route I should take, which restaurants we haven't tried yet, alcohol options around WS.

Skyfall ROCKED! One of the best hands down...in my opinion.

Agree. Terrific movie.

Bundesliga is a good league to watch as well. Even then, I only follow a couple of teams in that league.Which came first? Quality players or league competition? I didn't consider that. At least the TV works.

Womens football league is awful to watch.

Agree for the quality. Disagree for the view. But then, I can only watch the women in their tight white uniforms run around for about 3 minutes. :lmao:

Morning, Gents! Not much to report today. Below are a few pictures from my trip to Boston. Enjoy.

Nice pictures. Being on a boat is still a dream, a dram shortened each day without lottery winnings or a time machine. :lmao:

Morning.... this thing on?

What's that? Speak up as us old retired folk can't hear you.

LOL hey @AirGoofy good to talk to you guys again. I seem to drop in here every couple of years. I mean to make it more often but my mind isnt what it once was 8)

Morning all from a sunny parent's place in Moncton. Just ended up being me visiting for a couple of days. May head out to see what has changed in the old home town for a bit.

Huge Bond fan and I thought Skyfall was the worst of the Craig movies, moves way to slow.

Like the USA, our women's national team has been much more successful that our male counterparts. I haven't spent much time watching the women's league in the UK but the games that I saw when we hosted in the U20 Womens World Cup in 2014 and Womens World Cup in 2015 were pretty good. That being said, they were national teams and I was watching some of the top teams. Women's sport doesn't get the attention it deserves but with that being said, I would much rather watch something like women's soccer than basketball.

That's cool. We decided to not visit the family to keep them safe. Not exactly spring chickens anymore.
