DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
That's cool. We decided to not visit the family to keep them safe. Not exactly spring chickens anymore.

Thought about that but cases here are minimal and I didn't want to take the chance that this might be the last one.

In related news... DD tested negative a couple minutes ago. Phew. On the not so great news... that means I have to go back to work.
Good news. The first bit. Obviously. The second bit is a human tragedy of epic proportion.

What's up, Gents?! Getting a late start to the day here on the Dis. Spent most of the morning getting some things done around the office. I've got nothing, hope all is well with everyone.

Morning all. Another day of retirement. Our local technical school is running a 10 week welding certificate program starting in January. I haven't heard back from a couple of interviews yet, and if I don't get either, then I may give it a whirl.

Now that would be a cool thing to get into. I hear the trades are in short supply of workers, not sure if welding falls into that or not, but one can make some serious money. If I had been smart when I first got married and moved to the Cape, I'd gone into one of the trades. I had half contemplated electrician, but at the time it was more of a passing thing.

I've also been offered an assistant tennis coach gig at the HS with dd's team. Since it's not football, it doesn't pay hardly anything and it's not full time to conflict with retirement board rules. But, I couldn't do the welding program as it would be tennis season starts in February.

That'd be cool...especially getting to embarrass your DD just by showing up and being there.

Been watching a show on Amazon Prime called "Mountain Men". While it has the unnecessarily added tv drama voice over guy, it shows several guys living in remote locations off the land - hunting, trapping, farming. There are terrific pictures of the wilderness in Alaska, Montana, and Maine. It's certainly stoked my thoughts of living in a log cabin, albeit with a few extra comforts.

I've watched that show a couple of times and didn't get into it, though I do find it fascinating that they live the way they do. Do you like it?

I don't have that anymore with DVC. I'm only staying with points. And, my goal was to stay in all the dvc resorts, but they are building them too quickly and the points are too expensive at the new ones. I'd like to try the Grand Floridean because I've always wanted to stay there. After that, we'll probably stick to the Boardwalk, Vero Beach, or Hilton Head Island locations.

I like to plan days at the park, which route I should take, which restaurants we haven't tried yet, alcohol options around WS.

I should have added that what I like most is researching the ins and outs, and tricks of saving money and time, and finding different things to do by watching different vlogs. I current watch Dreams Unlimited, Dis Unplugged, Mickey Views (just started this one), and DFBGuide. I love finding new things to do at the parks, as well as packing tips and, well, general things about trips to Disney World. Love doing that.

Agree. Terrific movie.

Yes it is.

Nice pictures. Being on a boat is still a dream, a dram shortened each day without lottery winnings or a time machine. :lmao:

Thanks. Winning the lottery would fix a lot, as would a time machine, though you have to be careful about this one. "Let's go back to the Jurassic period!" (AirGoofy steps out of the machine and steps on a bug) "Ooops! Well, what's the worst that could happen, it's just a bug?" (AirGoofy comes back to the modern period and notices that the human race now has three arms) :lmao:

What's that? Speak up as us old retired folk can't hear you.

:lmao:

YAY!

On the not so great news... that means I have to go back to work.

Well that stinks.

The science projected America to have 2.2 million deaths from COVID. Fauci said it will be really bad over the winter.

You're right, that was projected. It also said that would be the number if there were NO mitigation efforts to reduce the spread.

That'd be cool...especially getting to embarrass your DD just by showing up and being there.

She wouldn't be embarrassed. I taught her how to play and can still beat her. She would have a chance to make a Division 1 college team if she would train and work at it. She doesn't want to though.

I've watched that show a couple of times and didn't get into it, though I do find it fascinating that they live the way they do. Do you like it?

Absolutely. I wanted to buy one or both of my grandparents' properties after they died. One was a 30 acre farm and the other was a 3 acre hunting/fishing area with a cabin. I would have been fine with just the 3 acres & cabin. DW said no as she didn't want to live that far away from her parents (it's about 90 minutes west). I hunt and fish now, but have never tried trapping or hide tanning. Now, I'm not sure I would want to totally depend on my survival skills. A backup generator and Sam's Club membership would come in handy. :lmao:

Morning, Gents, and Happy New Years! Had a good day yesterday goofing off and slowly, and I do mean, slowly, getting through the backlog of opened envelopes and paperwork in my office. Most, if not all, is stuff that's already been dealt with, just didn't know what to do with it at the time, I'm horrible at filing stuff, one of my New Years Resolutions is to get organized and STAY organized. Yeah, we'll see how this goes. Anyways...I got to talk to an old Navy buddy of mine last night. We must have talked for 2 hours, and it only seemed like 5 minutes. Man it was fun catching up and reminiscing. Well, that's all I've got. Have a good day, Gents, and a Happy New Years! Oh, anyone doing a zoom chat today/night, even for a short time? Just curious.

TTFN

Ah, gotcha! I know teenagers who'd be embarrassed at the mere though of their parents showing up to school. That's a shame that she doesn't want to use tennis to get into a Division 1 school. She should use it to get a scholarships.

Those would have been nice properties to own.

When I was visiting my parents earlier this week I went for a hike in an area that used to be a reservoir. The city has converted it into a nature part and added a bunch of trails. Last time I was in that area I was 13 and there were no trails. There were lots of great photo opportunities.

Evening from an overcast Westfield NB. I been busy the last few days with a bathroom renovation for my oldest DD and SIL, what started out as a tub and vanity replacement, has turned into a complete gut out of the entire bathroom. so I've found a way to fill my time in the first few days of retirement.

Have a great New Year's eve Guys....... see you in 2021 :drinking1:drinking1:drinking1 I'm heading out to set up for our fireworks celebrations.

First off, congrats on your retirement. Second, sorry about the bathroom gut and renovation? Not sure if that was a good thing or not. My wife bought a new dresser for my DD, and older one that looked pretty. We agreed to move it up to my DD's bedroom so we can swap out the one that's in there now. Well, a simple swap has turned into a full on bedroom shift and reorganization. Not quite a full gut and renovation, but I did build our family room with my DFiL That was fun.

Have a great New Year's eve Guys....... see you in 2021 :drinking1:drinking1:drinking1 I'm heading out to set up for our fireworks celebrations.

Have fun and Happy New Years!
