DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning, Gents, from a still snow covered Cape Cod. Still waiting on some medical stuff before I can begin my new job/chapter...which at this point won't happen until after Christmas, which I'm fine with. While I haven't started my job yet, I'm already getting nervous. The HR person I spoke to is already looking to find a way to keep me on after this contract ends, so as a result, I don't want to screw this up...hence my nervousness. I do view the nervousness as a good thing. For me, it shows that I want to do a good job, and I do, but I'm still nervous. I know, "Shut up, you'll be fine." hahaha I sat down the DD yesterday afternoon to watch the movie "Spy Kids" and loved every minute of it. We popped some popcorn and cuddled on the couch....love that. Outside that I've got nothing, unless everyone wants me to regale my adventures in cleaning and organizing my house? (looks around and notices everyone looking away). Ok, then I've got nothing else.

I am! But whether or not it happens this decade...

Well, the next decade does start in 12 days, if my math is correct, so if you do swing up this way let me know and I'll show you around.

Evening from a snowy Westfield NB, This is the first winter in 44 years that I won't be plowing snow, I'll be glad to hear my replacement plowing my driveway at 4am instead of me.

Congrats! My neighbor did it a few years and wound up giving it up and he couldn't be happier. The last couple of years we didn't get a lot of snow, so having to keep the insurance hurt financially.

Nice pics CCT.

Thanks

Nice...I feel warm already.

No, I I'm looking forward to taking it easy, but if I do miss it I can work part-time.

Part-time is good, it'll give you some extra money to plan for your trips to the World.

A terrific end to the Mandalorian, Season 2. Don't Google search anything related, as spoilers were abundant.

OH! MY! GOD! That was such a good episode! Looking forward to what happens.

Great pictures. Snow is still snow though, and way too cold.

Thanks...and yes, snow is still snow. I'm actually going to grab the kid and head out today for some picture taking.

And, I still have it, but I already know it's not for me. I struggled to finish my time up for retirement. I want to work, but I don't want the next career for 5 or 10 years to be miserable.

I get that, and you know when it's a good fit or not. Hope you get what you're looking for, my friend.

Morning y'all from a decidedly soggy terra mater.
Not much on the Agenda today. The boy clicks over to double figures tomorrow, so I see some hefty PS5 time in my immediate future. Its all set up in the AV cupboard and updating, as I thought it m might be particularly harsh if he opened it and then had to wait 16 hours while it all updated from the factory set.
He gets to pick all the meals this weekend, so we started with Veal and Spaghetti last night, Cinammon buns this morning and we finish up with low n slow Beef and Pork ribs on Sunday night, taking a little detour through full English breakfast town in the morning. Thankful right now that we have socialised medicine, as I feel I may need a daily visit to to the Cardio ward. And the fat sucking department.
Crazy times at work, its always the same before the mother ship goes off, but it should go to nothing next week in terms of meetings.

Happy Birthday to your son! Sounds like a wonderful meal!

@Terra Nova guy you out there bro?

Yeah, I'm glad you asked. Anyone seen him? Is he ok?

Hey! I've been there! We stayed in Sandwich many moons ago. It does make me smile that almost every town there as an equivalent over here. I've got a photo of me in front of the town sign in Eastham, as that's where I was born in London (well, East Ham). Your version of Eastham is WAY purtier than mine.

I've never thought of that, but you're right. I could be wrong, but it's probably because that's what they knew when they came here and started building the communities. Well, if you ever get back over to this side of the pond, let me know and we'll hook up for a drink or two...or three. I'll also show you around

Morning from a snow covered Westfield NB. Heading into town to get DW a new phone, then take DD to her swimming lessons. Then the remainder of the day just relaxing. Enjoy the weekend.

Love when that happens on a weekend. Hope you enjoyed your relaxing day.

Afternoon all. 0530 start for us today as the boy woke up super early, unsurprisingly. His socks were blown off by his gift, so we hid that one well. Ribs are Ribbing, he wants Mac n Cheese as a side. Dinner and then football, methinks.

:thumbsup2

Still waiting on some medical stuff before I can begin my new job/chapter
Frontal lobotomy??
While I haven't started my job yet, I'm already getting nervous.
That's okay. You'll do great. ::yes::
We popped some popcorn and cuddled on the couch....love that.
Awww.... :)
Well, the next decade does start in 12 days, if my math is correct, so if you do swing up this way let me know and I'll show you around.
:lmao: Touché!

Morning chaps. Year end shenanigans around here today.

I could be wrong, but it's probably because that's what they knew when they came here and started building the communities
Nope, that's pretty much it in a nutshell.
Well, if you ever get back over to this side of the pond, let me know and we'll hook up for a drink or two...or three. I'll also show you around
I'm sure we will be back round that way at some point. I am often a little south of there, in CT, and obviously a LOT south of there, in an anonymous attraction.
Yeah, I'm glad you asked. Anyone seen him? Is he ok?
I got hold of him, he's fine, just busy.
Sounds like a wonderful meal!
It was very good, even if I say so myself.
No need for any cream @londontime but thanks for the offer.

Happy birthday George!
Cheers bud. If you change your mind on the cream I'm totally good for it. The video put a smile on the boys face. In a "*** was that?" kinda way :-)

Once y'all finish up the 50 with Alaska, then you might as well go on and add the Territories.

I could get on board with that plan. St. John would provide a nice stamp for the National Park passport.

A terrific end to the Mandalorian, Season 2. Don't Google search anything related, as spoilers were abundant.

Agreed, that was a ton of fun.

He gets to pick all the meals this weekend, so we started with Veal and Spaghetti last night, Cinammon buns this morning and we finish up with low n slow Beef and Pork ribs on Sunday night, taking a little detour through full English breakfast town in the morning.

Your son has excellent taste. Galactic salad dodging at its finest.

@Terra Nova guy you out there bro?

Hopefully @Terra Nova guy is getting ready for an awesome Christmas.

Or the place that started the whole damn party.
No. Not Spain, wisea$$.

I'm open to bribes if any potential vacation destinations want to cut the line.

Are you back in full time or do you still get to work from home? The hierarchy at Bricksburg don't want us back until at least March, which means it would be over a year since I've been to the office which feels weird just typing out.

I've been back in the office since June, but it was only managers/supervisors asked to come back. So I'm here with like 4 other people.

Not back to the office to work until January so it is time for some relaxation.

That's a good feeling. My last day is Wednesday.

For the first time in about two weeks I got a semi decent night’s sleep. Still need more but at least it’s something.

Glad to hear it!

Maybe I'll just be like Cousin Eddie and hold out for a management position.

You ever get that metal plate in your head replaced?

The garden of Eden?????

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Dinner and then football, methinks.

This is known as a perfect day. Glad the PS5 was a good surprise.

Cheers. Yep, we are in full old school March time lockdown. Everything closed, no mixing, Christmas is cancelled. Ol Bo Jo announced it as I was bringing about 300 quid worth of Xmas food into the house, as we had plans for today, Xmas Eve and Xmas day.

Oh, and a truck load of beer and Bourbon, and Cadburys.

Always best to stock up on necessities in a pandemic.

Supposed to start on the Yule Log (or as we call it Buche de Noel... which we then lovingly "translate" to "Christmas b!tch"... :rolleyes1 ) today with oldest DD.

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

And happy birthday to DD!

We are about to enter the tween zone, I fear the day when the Curly haired Ninja enters the realm of teendom.

Well... there's a ton of information out there on how teens... maybe even especially girl teens are absolutely horrid. Between the massive mood swings and the bullying and... well... you get the picture.
Don't believe everything you read.

I never expected it to happen, but it turns out I really enjoy having teenagers.

Well, not when they're making fun of me/pointing out my hypocrisy/ignoring the advice I give them. But most of the time, they're actually a lot of fun.

Outside that I've got nothing, unless everyone wants me to regale my adventures in cleaning and organizing my house?

Oh, wow. Look at the time. I gotta get to bed. I still gotta brush my teeth, feed the hog, still got some homework to do, still got those bills to pay, wash the car...

and obviously a LOT south of there, in an anonymous attraction.

Morning All.

Foggy Monday to start the Christmas Break.

Few errands later today and a volleyball practice tonight but that's it for today. Have a great Monday all.

Another Monday morning. It seems we have a new COVID stimulus bill passed for everyone to get $600. Now, there are around 330 million people in the US, which means that would cost $200 billion. The stimulus amount though is for $900 billion. The first time was $1200, which means that would have cost $400 billion. That stimulus amount was $2.2 trillion. After we default on all this debt, maybe the Canadians will take us over and Mexico will build the wall to prevent us from immigrating there. :sad2:

I always forget that it's not winter yet. To me, winter begins November 1st (unless we're having an unseasonably warm fall or warm spell) and ends in April/May.
Much better than when I lived up North and it was Sep 1 - June 1.

I don't know who came up with the arbitrary 4 seasons or their start dates. It's somehow related to the equinox, but different regions would seem to need to have different dates. We have different time zones, with me living abo

I would prefer a full time warmer climate.

Cheers. Yep, we are in full old school March time lockdown. Everything closed, no mixing, Christmas is cancelled. Ol Bo Jo announced it as I was bringing about 300 quid worth of Xmas food into the house, as we had plans for today, Xmas Eve and Xmas day. Anybody wanna buy 8 pints of cream?

On a more positive note, I have the reek of Beef ribs on me today, and there are more for me. Oh, and a truck load of beer and Bourbon, and Cadburys.

Ice cream does last if you keep it in the freezer, same as bourbon. But, if you find the need for space, feel free to mail it my way. I'll deduct it from your delinquent dues.

And, DW loves Cadbury chocolate. Not sure what you Britons are doing, but keep up the good work.

Nervousness isn't a bad thing as that extra energy/ hyper-awareness can be used to improve performance. However, when it becomes a problem when it lingers into anxiety.

I'm close to the same spot as you. I really want the job at the hospital, assuming the pay is where it should be. For me, I don't have the job, and have that nervousness waiting to hear. I will try not to dwell too much over the holidays.

You ever get that metal plate in your head replaced?

Liking teenagers? And who has a metal plate in their head! :lmao:

There was a comedian who said the reason teenagers act so miserable is that parents won't be as upset to kick them out of the house. :lmao:

Still, I'm with you. I like it much better now that they can drive themselves. It ups my super lazy dad credit.

Morning, Gents! Got the DD out of the house yesterday for a few hours for some some adventure. I did bring my camera, but it was more for practice than shooting for beautiful landscape pics...so I won't post them. Otherwise I've got nothing. Have a good day, gents!

Frontal lobotomy??

Let's hope it doesn't come to that; however, like @Cinderella's Fella said 👇, rather have a bottle in front of me instead of a Frontal lobotomy.

I would rather have a bottle in front of me instead of a Frontal lobotomy...

👆

That's okay. You'll do great. ::yes::

Thanks.

I'll take all the cuddles I can get right now. In a couple of years she won't want to be seen with me.

:lmao:

Morning chaps. Year end shenanigans around here today.

Love those year end shenanigans! "Party at Londonetime's!"

Nope, that's pretty much it in a nutshell.

:thumbsup2

I'm sure we will be back round that way at some point. I am often a little south of there, in CT, and obviously a LOT south of there, in an anonymous attraction.

CT isn't that far out, though if you do come from CT make it a a long weekend.

I got hold of him, he's fine, just busy.

Oh, wow. Look at the time. I gotta get to bed. I still gotta brush my teeth, feed the hog, still got some homework to do, still got those bills to pay, wash the car...

All this debt is scaring me.

Because I care about doing a good job, I see nerves as a good thing. And thankfully I've never reached the level of anxiety....maybe come close, but never reached it.

Liking teenagers? And who has a metal plate in their head! :lmao:

There was a comedian who said the reason teenagers act so miserable is that parents won't be as upset to kick them out of the house. :lmao:

I'm going to have to remember this one.

Still, I'm with you. I like it much better now that they can drive themselves. It ups my super lazy dad credit.

I'm sure I'll regret saying this later, but right now I don't mind driving my DD to her things...it gets me out of the house.

Nah. In public? Definitely. At home? She'll need you more than ever.

Hay Y'all...
Sleepin' ain't happenin', so I figured I bother y'all.
(besides you can either read or - better yet - ignore me at you're leisure, so I ain't really doing much damage.)

Nice shots. I feel warmer already.

I can fix that with a quick trip outdoors, though.
Sounds like a cure for something that didn't need fixing in the first place.

A terrific end to the Mandalorian, Season 2.
Yes it was.
The series has offered chances for several characters to be somewhat redeemed. The teaser for the spin-off was rather interesting as well. Now we'll just have to wait and see where they take the story from here.

Are you back in full time or do you still get to work from home? The hierarchy at Bricksburg don't want us back until at least March, which means it would be over a year since I've been to the office which feels weird just typing out.
Naaa...
They had us back in the office in late August. It's a more conducive environment for micromanaging.

They are "allowing" us to work from home next week as the year-end closing process starts up on Sunday. We weren't allowed to take time off before or during the holidays, when the work load was fairly slow, but spending all day in the home offices while the work load is off the scale is apparently supposed to make up for the.

I could get on board with that plan. St. John would provide a nice stamp for the National Park passport.
Add in the San Juan National Historic Site ad you'll pick up two stamps and knock out the eastern territories (the Pacific ones will be tougher to get to though).

Morning y'all from a sunny London. Up early with the China markets, then went to the tip to get rid of boxes that probably equate to Amazon's cardboard order for February (all hail the great Bezos). More shopfitting manual rivetation today. It was punctured by the highlight of a toasted sausage n egg sandwich, so this morning was not a total washout.

Who doesn't love Gatorland???
Nailed it. Gotta love the smell of vaguely stinky animals in a tropical heat setting. Can't get enough of the place.
Hay Y'all...

Morning sunshine! Welcome to, er....... Londontime? Muse away, we ain't goin' nowheres.

Gotta love Corporate logic.

Morning, boys.
Our winter storm that was supposed to start last night got pushed back to later this morning, so some shoveling got removed from the docket.
Cool thing happened last night after work.
I was pretty sure that I'd missed the conjunction (already set) when I left and I was right. But I happened to be looking up at the sky when a snow white owl glided by at tree top height. Beautiful and completely silent. Wish I'd been standing with phone/camera ready.

Have a good one, all. I'm in the middle of a tough three shifts. 8 hours on, 8 hours off, 8 hours on, 8 hours off, 8 hours on, with the last shift from 11pm to 7am tonight. Joy.

Sounds like a cure for something that didn't need fixing in the first place.

Actually... in all seriousness. I've been a couple times (mind you, the last was over 20 years ago... closer to 30) and really enjoyed it. Underrated, I think.

Morning, Gents! I've got nothing this morning. Have a good day, all, and we'll chat later.

TTFN

Hawaii is beckoning, me thinks.

I've been to Hawaii...well, better to say that I passed through Hawaii, Honolulu to be exact. I was in the Navy and on a commercial flight that had been contracted by the military to deliver servicemembers overseas to Guam and the Philippines. It was somewhere around 4am to 5am when we landed landed in Honolulu to refuel and top off provisions. It took a couple of hours to accomplish this, so I walked around a closed and deserted airport. So while I haven't Been to Hawaii, I've been to Hawaii...makes sense? 😆 I ultimately disembarked at Clark Air Force Base, Philippines. I then took a bus to Subic Bay to catch my ship...and the adventure began. And I did not have a girlfriend in every port. I was a good boy. :littleangel:

Nah. In public? Definitely. At home? She'll need you more than ever.

I'm hoping she'll still need me as she gets older.

Hay Y'all...
Sleepin' ain't happenin', so I figured I bother y'all.
(besides you can either read or - better yet - ignore me at you're leisure, so I ain't really doing much damage.)

Well...sorry to hear you couldn't sleep, but thankfully I was.

How kind of them. But a question: How will they be able to micromanage you if you're working from home?

"All hail the great Bezos!" My wife is certainly adding to the change in his pockets this Christmas.

Morning All.

It's Tuesday and I think we may have a taco bake tonight. Couldn't see the Christmas Star last night as we have have overcast skies for days. Ended our latest skills and drills session for volleyball last night, next up team tryouts and then we'll see if we can find someone to play.

Office is closed but of course I still get people wanting stuff. Latest is someone that wants to know if we can process a charitable donation before the end of the year. I want to say no but we'll see.

Have a good one all.

So..... thats my work calls done for this year. The rest of the day has been mainly brought to me by the Animals on Spotify. Every year or so I rediscover them and have a day in wonderment on how unbelievably talented they were. This normally is a segway into the Kinks.

mmmm... home made?
Yep. Butchers house made Breakfast Pork Sausage, Fried egg, white toast. Ketchup. boom.

And, we made it to Tuesday. The days will now start getting longer, which means the light is coming. Let's hope that light isn't from a 2021 oncoming train. :sad2:

You should get her some Cadbury Mini Eggs. Those things are more addictive than booger sugar.

::yes::

Because I care about doing a good job, I see nerves as a good thing. And thankfully I've never reached the level of anxiety....maybe come close, but never reached it.

Sadly, that's my downfall. I've worked with many that just didn't care at all. Some were canned. Others were promoted, which made it even worse.

Hawaii is beckoning, me thinks.

I don't know about Hawaii. Oh sure, if I win a free trip, then I'll gladly take it. Everyone says the climate is terrific, but I don't know about living on an island. I think I'd rather live in the US where I can drive to another state. Maybe 007 would lend me the submarine convertible car.

Yes it was.

My favorite part of Star Wars was always the jedi storyline. I don't care either way about the Skywalker space drama, although the Vader intro at Star Tours is my favorite. I thought it was terrific when the Jedi arrive at the beginning of the Phantom Menace movie. I hope a spinoff will do something similar.

Have a good one, all. I'm in the middle of a tough three shifts. 8 hours on, 8 hours off, 8 hours on, 8 hours off, 8 hours on, with the last shift from 11pm to 7am tonight. Joy.

Sounds brutal. Good luck. We are all counting on you.
