DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
This is awesome, Doc. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 I needed this, thank you. Still think Navy's the best. :teeth:
All in good fun buddy.

I just knew when I went in, I didn't want to crawl around in mud, so Army and Marines were out. Didn't like the idea of being deployed and away from my family for months at a time, so no to Navy. Although I didn't work with them, loved aircraft, so the Air Force was the obvious choice for me.

Have to admit having toured the Yorktown, a sub and a destroyer, the navy has some impressive hardware. Walking the length of the deck of Yorktown and realizing by today's standards, it's small, is humbling and impressive.

It's Friday the 13th. I'm hiding in the garage behind the chainsaws.

Wish me luck chaps, about to go on a call with a "project manager" who over the last 2 years has delivered everything late, wrong and over budget. And is now asking to be involved in one of our biggest projects next year.
Oh dear Lord, Give me tact. Give me diplomacy. Failing that, Give me the linguistic version of a Louisville Slugger.

Just pretend you are talking to some idiot hillbilly from Kentucky. You have experience with that.

3 minutes? Better not be late for that one.

So, they're either that desperate or I've already been rejected. Everyone arrived at the same time, sat in the warehouse, and people walked over for a standing COVID 6 feet away interview.

Not true. I am still

@londontime has saved $15,824 in lego due to his discounts
@londontime has done 419 unique calling it lines
@Cinderella's Fella has used the welcome to the club gag 18 times in the last year
@pkondz has travelled 30x as many miles in his car last year than this year (thanks COVID)
@budamacdvcr has watched 6,104 sports events in his back yard averaging 21 simultaneous viewings on different devices
@AirGoofy has applied at 84 jobs the retirement board has denied
And I have been the brunt of 381 "you live there" and Linux jokes

And keep in mind...97.671% of statistics are made up.

Sorry if I didn't mention you...it's been a long day and I was trying to remember everyone's login ID and something to come up with and then worried if I happened to get all but one person...I'd feel really bad.

Bravo. :lmao::rotfl::lmao::rotfl::lmao:

I've given up applying for anything that needs approval from the Retirement Board.

Don't let him fool you, he's not allowed out of his bunker right now .

Do we need to pass food to him, or is good to go?

All in good fun buddy.

That's how I took it. There's always been fun ribbing between the branches. When I met a friend's father, who's an old school Vietnam Vet Marine, I purposely wore my Navy Veterans hat just to rib him. He, of course, came back with a whole host of ribbing, but it was all in good fun.

And I almost joined the Air Force as an MP. Really wanted to do that, but then I thought about how much more of the world I could see in the Navy and, well, that was it.

It's Friday the 13th. I'm hiding in the garage behind the chainsaws.

While the car in the driveway with the engine running, right?

So, it's Friday 13 in 2020.
Just heading into the bunker for 24 hours. This can't be good.
13 is a lucky number in our house, so celebrations are in order 'round here.

You can call me Murdoch.
And don't you love it when a plan comes together?

I did know that, yes, I was just making a statement about my love of battleships. I love ships in general, but especially the battleship.
I suspected that to be the case.
That particular PSA was really for anyone else that was also foolishly bothering to read my drivel...

A bit of clarification for those not in the know, so to speak.

I do, however, have to make one correction, the USS Fall River (CA-131) is not at Battleship Cove in Fall River, she was sold for scrap back in 1972; however, her bow, which is all that's left of her, does rest on shore at Battleship Cove.
Yeah, I fumbled that one.
When I typed it, it didn't feel right actually, but I didn't stop to recheck my notes. Sure enough, there it is right there in my spreadsheets listed as being only a fragment with the notes column saying:

"1945 US Baltimore-class CA; reserve 1947; struck 1971; scraped 1972; only bow section remains"

What?
Doesn't everybody maintain detailed spreadsheets listing all of the vessels and remnants of such throughout the world that are open to the public? That wouldn't be considered aberrant behavior, now would it?

I'm probably old enough to remember, just don't. 😐
Then your mind is far better organized toward what's important then mine.
That's a good thing.

It's Friday the 13th. I'm hiding in the garage behind the chainsaws.
What ever you do, just don't get into the already running car and drive off.

Morning fellas. So, it's Friday 13 in 2020.

What could possibly go wrong?

Every team of heroes has the wise cracking dude who is fundamentally useless in their ranks somewhere.
You can call me Murdoch.

:rotfl2:
Thats one way of looking at it, Lady K prefers to express it as "15,824 you have spent in Lego that you don't need"

Always have to be on the lookout for the Fun Police.

Hey @CapeCodTenor !!!!!

Wake up!!!!

You're dreaming.

:rotfl2:

Have to admit having toured the Yorktown, a sub and a destroyer, the navy has some impressive hardware. Walking the length of the deck of Yorktown and realizing by today's standards, it's small, is humbling and impressive.

I had the same thought when I visited, too. That's indicative of great minds...or something.

13 is a lucky number in our house, so celebrations are in order 'round here.

I knew there was something off about you...now I know.

And don't you love it when a plan comes together?

😄

I suspected that to be the case.

You keep a spreadsheet?! Man, you are serious about this. That's awesome!

Then your mind is far better organized toward what's important then mine.
That's a good thing.

I wouldn't go that far.

What ever you do, just don't get into the already running car and drive off.

No, never want to do that.

Morning, boys.
Bit of a rough day yesterday, and now it's Friday the 13th. But... it's a day off, so how bad could it be?
(Mike... Jason... Freddie... don't answer. Please.)
A co-worker in a different department suddenly passed away from a heart attack the night before, so I spent all afternoon and all my lunch break calling everyone in the department to offer condolences and to check in on them. Bit draining sharing emotional times with 10 people, one at a time. Then having to follow up with another one on a different matter, and then coming back from my break and dealing with another person on another matter. phew.
And in the middle of that, dealing with someone giving me conflicting guidelines was not appreciated.
Have one more phone call to make in a couple minutes and then I'm gonna crawl under a rock somewhere for the rest of the day.

Morning fellas. So, it's Friday 13 in 2020.
Just heading into the bunker for 24 hours. This can't be good.
See ya tomorrow!
You can call me Murdoch.
Loved that character on the A-Team.
I was stumped by that one. I've forgotten the names (except for Mr. T of course) of the characters of the show. I can see them, the van and hear the theme song in my head, but... without Googling... Face... wasn't that one?
Okay... Googled. I was close. I'm sure they called him "Face" more often than Faceman. Or am I wrong? No way in heck I was going to remember Templeton, let alone Templeton Peck!
It was like some kind of Friday Night lights thing, where he was saying "put me in coach". Except he would cough up the ball, probably after running it backwards for 20 yards or so to help the other team out, then punch the ref. We'd send in the proper team to sort it out and he would come back at the end of the game claiming victory.
Ugh. A true team player.
I did let him down gently though, as my boss advised me to go against my natural instinct to suggest to him that we put extra money in the mechanical budget when he got the job, as clearly hell would have just frozen over and we might have to boost up the heaters a bit.
:rolleyes1
Morning, Gents! Hope all is well on this Friday the 13th (looks around to make sure everything is ok).
Ok??? Did you not notice... 2020?
If someone knocks on the door, don't open it, it could be a trick...wait until you hear the secret knock.
As long as it's not "shave and a haircut"
What?
Doesn't everybody maintain detailed spreadsheets listing all of the vessels and remnants of such throughout the world that are open to the public? That wouldn't be considered aberrant behavior, now would it?
Nope. Perfectly normal. We all do it. Yup. Every one of us.
What could possibly go wrong?

Sorry to hear about the loss and sorry that you had to deal with it to quite that extent.

No. 420.......(allegedly)

Right. That's it. I'm calling it. Work Week over. Everyone out. Last one standing in Territory Lounge after multiple Rum Swizzles gets to take Aurora home. And let me tell ya, you'd be better be packing down there, as we all know if she gets a small pr!ck on her fingers, she's straight to sleep.

Have a great weekend chaps.

Afternoon gents! Sounds like we are all ready for a break this weekend and nice to have Bunker Dan call it as I do miss those. Stay safe and enjoy whatever it is you plan on doing this weekend.
To be fair though buddy, you put your Christmas tree up in August or something so you've got somewhere put them ;)
Let's not get carried away, mid-October the first one goes up. Everyone else seems to be adapting our schedule this year though as many folk are partaking earlier this year - go figure.
3 minutes? Better not be late for that one.

I can still remember the theme song. I couldn't remember all the names either.

Ok??? Did you not notice... 2020?

As bad as this sounds, I've gotten kind of use to 2020. Numb? Maybe I've just gotten numb to it. That it. I've gotten numb to it.

As long as it's not "shave and a haircut"

Uhhh I hope that's not the knock I've been telling everyone. :rolleyes1

Least ya' be thinking that I wasn't serious about it...

Yeah...
I are just a mite on the loony side of the spectrum.

I'm impressed.

The Air Force has a saying - What goes up must come down.

The Navy doesn’t have a saying...

The Navy most certainly has a saying....
Never
Again
Volunteer
Yourself

Ok, maybe that's not the saying you were referring to. I can't speak for the Navy today, but when I was we didn't have one...officially at least.

Least ya' be thinking that I wasn't serious about it...
Oh, no. Never had a doubt.
Yeah...

Like I said. Never had a doubt.

Not part of my job. It's a company led volunteer position.

Wow! Sorry to hear about your co-worker. My condolences.
I didn't know him very well, myself. But thank you.
I can still remember the theme song. I couldn't remember all the names either.
Not just me, then.

I think we're all kinda numb now.

I thought it was "It's not just a job, it's an adventure." I still remember one of the skits from Saturday Night Live and it showed a guy scrubbing the "floor" with a toothbrush. Then it panned out to show him in the middle of a carrier and did the Navy tagline. I had already signed up for the Air Force at that point and I was almost literally LOL.

I'm not sure it was a saying, but I have the utmost respect for submariners, because if they get attacked, they may never come back up and that to me is a scary scary thought. To be honest, if alone and getting hit in the middle of the ocean and almost no hope of survival if the ship goes down, that is a scary thought as well. At least with aircraft, if you survive the crash(i.e. bail out), at least you have the ability to survive until help comes.

Morning, Gents! A bit early for a Saturday, but I'm off to work today in preparation for inventory. Today I'll be heading in to prep the tickets and finish up labeling expense items. Outside that not much is going on. Have good day, gents.

TTFN

I didn't know him very well, myself. But thank you.

You're welcome

Not just me, then.

Nope. There's no way I could have remembered Templeton Peck.

I think we're all kinda numb now.

That we are.

I thought it was "It's not just a job, it's an adventure."

Oh I'd forgotten that one...thanks for reminding me. And yes, it was an adventure.

I still remember one of the skits from Saturday Night Live and it showed a guy scrubbing the "floor" with a toothbrush. Then it panned out to show him in the middle of a carrier and did the Navy tagline. I had already signed up for the Air Force at that point and I was almost literally LOL.

Never saw that skit, but guys scrubbing the deck with a toothbrush has been used more than once in a move or TV show. "Full Metal Jacket" comes to mind.

At least with aircraft, if you survive the crash, at least you have the ability to survive until help comes.

Back in 2005, the USS San Francisco (SSN-711) hit an underwater mountain going flank speed (maximum) and caused a lot of damage, not mention all those crewmen who were hurt because of it. Luckily the submarine didn't sink, but the damage was pretty extensive. If I remember correctly, the charts didn't have that underwater mountain on them, so they didn't know about it. At least when a ship goes down, life rafts automatically deploy when the ship sinks to a certain depth....so there's a chance of survival. If you're in a sub that sinks, well....

Unless you crash in the middle of the ocean.

Well, there is that.
