DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Dan wont be able to get us of this island (island, continent, whatever...), but he'll be able to build us any other device we need for survival.

Just substituting Legos for coconuts as the primary building material, of course.
 That's it, exactly!!
Gives us a good insight into your priorities.
Wait... it's not everyone's priorities????
It's a funky place to be sure.
Guy Fieri did a spot about it at one point.
"A joint where a Po' Boy is a hamburger and the barbecue chicken is fried..."
HOLY SMOKES!
Okay... look... it sure sounded good when you told me about it... And now, after seeing the video (yes watched the whole thing)...

If there wasn't this stupid virus thing, I would drive down. Well... it's too late now, since it takes 24 hours to get there. So I need 4 days in total. I tend to not drive more than 16 or so hours in a day.
But I would. Damn. That looked amazing.

I don't think I posted anything about not counting votes. Going back to "Dewey beats Truman" newspaper headlines, elections have been determined on election day. In a time when America has never been more divided, why create a system that lacks transparency and credibility? 46/50 states figured out how to count and publish the results on election day, just like they have every time.
That headline has to be one of the biggest embarrassments ever for the media.
I did see that some States were legally not allowed to begin counting all the millions of mail in votes early, which delays everything.
And, to your specific question, we already know some ballots aren't being counted. Maybe all those photos/ reports of ballots found in trash cans are fake news. However, our elected clerk produced data in the primary elections of the ballots not being counted and the specific reason, i.e., not sealing the envelope, postmark, etc.
I can't speak to the veracity of any dumped votes, but... if there were mail in votes that were dumped, you'd think Trump would be pretty pleased about it, considering that most would be votes for Biden?
I almost, and I do mean ALMOST slapped my boss a while ago.
Uh, oh...
He came up to me and asked how's it going and how the project was going (the project where I move/assign electronically floor stock to a location in the inventory program we use), I said fine, and asked a few questions for clarification. My boss then asked me if everything was written down, write down all the part numbers and where they are and then head to the computer for the other part. I told him no, that only the old racks with an actual letter on them have been written down, that the new racks with no physical letter attached to them still need to be written down. I said this 3x and even showed him physically which racks still needed to be written down. He then get this tone of annoyance and asks me yet AGAIN, which racks still need to be written down. It was at this point I raised my voice and said a 4th time what was written down. I had to bite my tongue to keep from yelling and hitting him. He's a nice guy, but he does not listen. Now, I will entertain the idea that I may not have been clear the first time, but when you repeat yourself a total of 4 times then you know it's not you.
Wow. :sad2:
At some point, I'd stop talking and just look at him.
And when he asked (for the 3rd or 4th time), I'd say, "Same as the last 2-3 times I told you."

Brother.

Saw this on the Book of Face and thought I'd share it for my Canadian friends, "Canada must feel like they live in an apartment above a meth lab." I'm not sure we're a meth lab, but certainly a dysfunctional family at least.
::yes:: Saw that a few times over the past 4 years.
I use to work as a bouncer at a strip club. Best job I've ever had.
I bet!
Whenever one of the ladies got an "enhancement," I was the one that got to inspect the results. Mmmm loved my job.
Well, someone has to do it.
Impressive that you could drive home on 3 tires. ;)

ou know, even on Gilligan’s Island, they listened to The Professor and not The Millionaire.

That has no relevance to the current electoral shenanigans.:rolleyes1
Saw that too. And... :rolleyes2
Just to add to the general comments on voting, some of you may recall that I used to work overseas a few years ago, in a country where the people did not have the right to vote.
One of the locals asked me, quite sincerely one day, “What is it like the vote?”
That simple question had an impact on me.
I bet it did.
Well, you can say anything you want if you're unhinged.
:rolleyes1
There are always stories like that. So for that reason and the reasons above, I don't miss elections. But in this particular case, Biden is from Delaware. If he didn't win his home state, he might as well pack it in.
Oh! I didn't know he was from Delaware. Yeah, if you can't win at home, then stay there.
:rotfl: I remember that story!
:sad2: I still feel bad for totally wasting Rob's time.

Managed care gets a bad wrap, but if you can treat people without medications and surgeries, then I think that would be the better option. I want to be able to do meaningful work that matches with my own philosophy.
I'll be in agreement with that assessment.
And work that doesn't fight against your own inclinations is certainly preferable if it can be found. May that be so,

I almost, and I do mean ALMOST slapped my boss a while ago.
Upper Management...
Can't live with 'em, Can't...

ummmm...

ummmm...

ehhh, I got nothing.

Whenever one of the ladies got an "enhancement," I was the one that got to inspect the results. Mmmm loved my job.
If they listed that in the job description, I suspect there'd be riots in the ten or so mile long line that spontaneously forms to turn in an application.

You know, even on Gilligan’s Island, they listened to The Professor and not The Millionaire.

Curious that...

Sounds pretty nice. I'll have to keep it in mind.
You'll need a decent amount of time to take it in.
It's only about an hour or so from us and we still put in a good long day checking everything out.

I wish I'd had time to stop at the Rail Museum. It looked pretty cool.
Do believe that was the end of the loop that finally got you punched in the face. I suspect that it was a far better decision to just head on home.

But if y'all ever have want or need (say like to see the Masters again) to spend some down in this part of the South, you might could hit both of those spots.

Wait... it's not everyone's priorities????
I didn't say that.
I merely noted that it gave us insight.

Yeah, that'd be a hair on toward excessive just to hit up one drive-in.

Now, if you were to put together a long trip just to hit as many dives as possible, then you may could justify traveling this far out of your way.

:sad2: I still feel bad for totally wasting Rob's time.
Hatted that we couldn't meet up, but it's all good.
I ordered up the dowsed chicken (dark meat of course) and a double order of the o-rings to nibble on while deriving back down to the house.

I wasn't doing too much suffering.

I didn't say that.
I merely noted that it gave us insight.
Ah. I sit corrected.
Yeah, that'd be a hair on toward excessive just to hit up one drive-in.
It wouldn't be the first time. I have driven a day out of my way just for ice cream.

I was so disappointed, I wound up skipping dinner that day.

Morning guys from a sunny London. Homework, chores and deciding what's for dinner tonight.

And another election prediction - everyone loses. This is an absolute disgrace. It doesn't matter which one wins now as the other side will declare fraud because of the time delay in counting.
This is a little bit of Ts chickens coming home to roost. He amplified the distrust in media, and facts that they are being super cautious on what they are saying. There is no real delay in counting. US Elections always take over a week, its just usually this part of the process doesn't matter as news networks are seen as the arbiter of who wins, so 150,000 votes in 4 states would be counted with no consequence. Anyone past Second grade math can see that there is literally over 99% that Biden will win PA based on the last 4 days. They are not calling it, as this guy has thrown every convention of normal politic out of the window and they want the Republicans to step up and tell him its over, rather than falling into the narrative trap of the liberal media declaring a false election. IMVHO.
Whenever one of the ladies got an "enhancement," I was the one that got to inspect the results. Mmmm loved my job
Did they club together and buy you a set of hand warmers?

In a time when America has never been more divided, why create a system that lacks transparency and credibility? 46/50 states figured out how to count and publish the results on election day, just like they have every time.
I humbly disagree. 46 out of 50 states have been called by news networks, and have not published a full count. Cali, New York, New Jersey, Idaho, Ohio, Montana, Alaska, just to pick a random few all have fewer votes published as a percentage than Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona. I agree that Nevada seems to be particularly slow. But you can't conflate somewhere like California that could put up a tailors dummy with a blue pin and it would win as the vote is so lop sided, with Georgia which in a vote of 4 million is split by less than 10,000. Otherwise in your current situation with the distrust of the other side, you just amplify the call that this is rigged. Look at the heat Fox got for calling Arizona. Imagine if that would have been CNN or CNBC. Or CNN had called Pennsylvania as soon as Biden pulled ahead. Or to be fair, called it on election night for Biden, citing the mail in count projections, when Trump was 500,000 votes ahead. They would have been right in the final scenario, but how would that have landed? I don't think you can have your cake and eat it in that the media have been called out as liars for 4 years, pretty much from the start of this administration, and now they are a little bit nervous when its close to be the guys to put the final nail in the coffin. Just my take. You can tell me to do one as an ignorant Brit if you like :thumbsup2

Anyways, enough of this.
Back to the funbags stories CCT. Cheer us all up.

Do believe that was the end of the loop that finally got you punched in the face. I suspect that it was a far better decision to just head on home.

I'm in Dallas in April mate, isn't that your way? I need to tap you up for tips on restaurants.......

Have a great day fellas, enjoy your respective weekends.

Morning, folks.
Been up for a couple hours already thanks to my older dog.

Thanks for your perspective on the election, Dan. Interesting read. Can't say I haven't had similar thoughts these last few days.

Morning, Gents! Little late on my check in this morning, but I made it. I've been having some computer issues at home and I was trying to deal with it this morning. Every time I get online, Google Chrome would freeze, then followed by the rest of the computer. Well, I started off by clearing my cache in Chrome, which took a quite a while. I then had some other programs freeze. Ultimately, I'm going to have to do some updating to my computer this weekend. Took my car to Town Fair Tire to get the flat fixed yesterday after work and wound up having to leave the tire because they were backed up. I'll grab it after work tonight. Outside that? I almost, and I do mean ALMOST slapped my boss a while ago. He came up to me and asked how's it going and how the project was going (the project where I move/assign electronically floor stock to a location in the inventory program we use), I said fine, and asked a few questions for clarification. Hope something works out for you.

That's what every company needs - more management.

Thanks. I've had another offer from a former employer, which I guess I'll take. I really wanted to do something different. I liked the sauce factory, but wasn't ready for 19/2 amount of work. I still just have to target 3 or 4 more years until I don't have to work again.

Just to add to the general comments on voting, some of you may recall that I used to work overseas a few years ago, in a country where the people did not have the right to vote.
One of the locals asked me, quite sincerely one day, “What is it like the vote?”
That simple question had an impact on me.
Regardless of the outcome or any frustration I have with the choices, I will always cast that ballot, because I know that person is out there who does not know what it means to vote.

A good reminder just how good we have it. I wish at least my country could see that, and spend the next 4 years working on what I think is the biggest threat - the level of the national debt.

I'll be in agreement with that assessment.
And work that doesn't fight against your own inclinations is certainly preferable if it can be found.

If the work can be found. The place I interviewed with sounds promising, but I still have to get the job.

I'm not sure what the disagreement is here. I can't imagine the media is afraid of anything Trump would say. They would just disable the Twitter account. It doesn't sit any better for those who watched Trump have a lead in the voting, and then wait several days for the count of Biden mail in votes to register. My point was that this could and should have been prevented.

Can you expand on that? Are you saying that no results should be released until all the votes are counted?

what I think is the biggest threat - the level of the national debt.
Agreed. I think this is the biggest issue facing both our countries. And many provinces/states as well.
My province in particular is facing a serious financial problem that is being made worse by the pandemic. I just hope solutions to it all can be found sooner rather than later.

It wouldn't be the first time. I have driven a day out of my way just for ice cream.
And it ended up costing you dinner.
But it was very good ice cream and company, so that's still a win.

I'm in Dallas in April mate, isn't that your way? I need to tap you up for tips on restaurants.......
Naaa, I'm in the Carolinas. I think I was off the boards for a bit when you were in this area a while back.
I regret that.

Well, I regret a lot of things, but that one's in the list. ;)

My point was that this could and should have been prevented.
I do believe a few of the spots still counting anticipated the problem and specifically asked their legislatures to allow them to start counting the mail-in ballots before hand with hopes of avoiding this wait. Those legislatures said: No.

Morning guys from a bright and sunny London. Looks like we got a new addition in the Hall of presidents. I wonder if it will have 3 months close and extra security this time. Firing up the Pizza oven for the last time this year, before I wrap it all up for the winter, so after 3 weeks of bread, hitting it hard. Looking at one of those Ooni things for the winter months that run off propane. They look pretty cool. Starting to get emails about moving my flights in Orlando for Jan, so I guess BA know what's up. Bad news Bears later, so hopefully see some of us over on the book of faces.

Ah, that's a shame. We could have broke bread on one of the restaurants. Me and the Lady K were only talking about that the other day, maybe sneaking in a cheeky trip back without the young un for 4 days or so, and Jekyll Island, Savannah or Charleston was pretty high on the list. I think if we do pull the trigger it will be New Orleans though, it's the one place we regret not going to before the kids.
I'll have to tap up @TekMickey for advice, I think he's from Dallas way. Or I might have got that a$$ end up as well.

Anyways, have a great day guys, may be it be filled with metaphorical Dole Whips, Beers and bacon. Or even better, actual Dole Whips, Beer and bacon.

Morning, boys.

Made the mistake of picking up the phone to an unknown caller yesterday.
Of course the scheduling girls are working from home, and... here I am, trying to stay awake for another hour.

Have a good Sunday, to those of you who ain't working. Sorry, that sucks to the rest.

Looks like we got a new addition in the Hall of presidents.
 That was one of the first things I thought, too!
Looking at one of those Ooni things for the winter months that run off propane.
Had to google that. How often are you making pizza and does it make that much of a difference having a pizza oven as opposed to the regular one in the kitchen?

A couple of times a month, but we would tend to go to restaurants that effectively shut right now and are likely to be through January.
When you do your own dough, a regular kitchen oven just can't reach the temps that a Wood fired or a Pizza Specific can, so the pizza ends up being a bit too much like bread, and no crispness or Char on the crust, which in my humble opinion is the best bit.
Wood fired has a completely different taste, and is the way to do it, but those propane Ooni ones fire up to temp in about 20 minutes at around 700f, so thats more than enough to get a really good pizza.
I'm always of the opinion as a guy that has to watch my weight carefully, if I'm going in on the calories and carbs, I want it to taste amazing. I'm not gonna sack off a days worth of calories on Dominos, I'd rather not bother.

Yeowch. Could you have not put on a funny accent and pretended to be someone else? for a small fee I will handle your calls when you're off if you want.
It would kinda be like a Geico lizard answering service (the kids think he talks like me (they speak nicely like their mum, thankfully))

Morning all.

Cloudy morning here but not too bad. Trying to decide between a 5 km run or a 10 Km hike. The hike is more enjoyable but I need to get back to running sooner than later. Decisions, decisions.

Have a good one all.

Can you expand on that? Are you saying that no results should be released until all the votes are counted?

Just like the other 45 states, start including/ posting those mail in ballot #s when the polls closed at 6 PM.

I do remember that there was once a time zone complaint issue, that if results were reported at 6 PM ET then it would impact the voters in PT. Not sure that is the case, but if so, wait to post results accordingly.

Agreed. I think this is the biggest issue facing both our countries. And many provinces/states as well.
My province in particular is facing a serious financial problem that is being made worse by the pandemic. I just hope solutions to it all can be found sooner rather than later.

Absolutely. Not only did we borrow more money for relief packages, but the lockdowns impacted tax collections going forward. That's why I remain such a proponent of re-opening businesses.

I do believe a few of the spots still counting anticipated the problem and specifically asked their legislatures to allow them to start counting the mail-in ballots before hand with hopes of avoiding this wait. Those legislatures said: No.

Which again, was my point, especially when government officials & employees were sitting at home on Skype meetings for 6 months of lockdowns doing nothing. I voted by absentee ballot one year, and still had to have completed it with a certain time frame for the vote to be counted.

They were turned in within certain time frames.
They just couldn't be counted before (or in some cases, after the close of) election day. That was still a choice made by those legislatures. My early vote was not counted until three days after the election.

Ah, okay. Get it now. I'm not a huge fan of the char (although I don't dislike it either... actually enjoy it when it does come that way) and actually like my crust a bit more on the bread side... so perhaps it's not for me. Definitely not for the rest of the family.
<perfectly cooked pizza arrives>
"Dad! It's burned!"
:sad2:
Wood fired has a completely different taste, and is the way to do it, but those propane Ooni ones fire up to temp in about 20 minutes at around 700f, so thats more than enough to get a really good pizza.
That's fast for 700F!
Is your current pizza oven wood-fired??
I'm not gonna sack off a days worth of calories on Dominos, I'd rather not bother.
Ew. No.
That's not really pizza, IMHO.
Could you have not put on a funny accent and pretended to be someone else? for a small fee I will handle your calls when you're off if you want.
 It was too late! I'd already said "Hello".
Trying to decide between a 5 km run or a 10 Km hike. The hike is more enjoyable but I need to get back to running sooner than later.
I'm trying to get back to it. Ran 3K yesterday. But my tendonitis is still determining my running ability.
Just like the other 45 states, start including/ posting those mail in ballot #s when the polls closed at 6 PM.
Ah, okay. Got it. So you want the legal rules that prevented some of the mail in ballot's from being counted early removed.
I do remember that there was once a time zone complaint issue, that if results were reported at 6 PM ET then it would impact the voters in PT. Not sure that is the case, but if so, wait to post results accordingly.
We still do that... at least on TV, but it's a moot point now with the internet.
<turns TV on at 8pm...> "And we are predicting a _____ government."
Me: "I know. I Googled it an hour ago."
Opted for the hike with DW. Nice 9 Km stroll through the woods.
Nice photos! Thanks for sharing.
