DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning folks.
Just under an hour to go. Pretty tired, today.
One more night shift tonight, then I'm done for a few days. Looking forward to actually sleeping at night.

The managing partner came to me yesterday and asked if I'd draft one for him, and of course I said, "Sure." I did it and turns out it was wrong, not because of what I did, but because he told me to use the wrong document. See, rather than draft a P&S from scratch every time, attorney's will keep a standard form ready to use and just change what they need to fit the deal...and he told me to use the wrong one. So, while I was wrong, it was correct because I was following instructions. :thumbsup2

Morning all. Last day at job #1 is Monday (sick day tomorrow) and then I begin retirement. Last day at job #2 is Sept 10. I will be retired/ unemployed for 5 days before I start a new job. While I had cash paid grass cutting jobs before, this will be the first time I haven't been employed in 30 years.

In world news, there's article about a KY man who violated Canadian quarentine rules. It wasn't me. :lmao:

In US news, the CDC recommended no longer testing asymptomatic people, kinda like we do for everything else in the history of modern medicine. Our Governor said that their science was wrong, and KY will continue testing with 10 PM restrictions and mask requirements. Because, his science is right.

In Disney news, the new park system is here to stay after COVID. I really don't care for it. One of my issues with Disney has been the over planning. I understood ADRs, but FP+ was too much. This seems to have removed all flexibility and spontaneity from a trip. I have some terrific memories of just walking up to an attraction, food, or drink without having to pre-order/ reserve on my phone. And, how will it work in the future? If you have park hoppers or AP, do you have to plan a month, week, day in advance? Or, if a park is too crowded, will you not be able to move to another park that same day unless you pre-booked it?

It was a sold strategy at the time.

Maybe. It didn't make sense when Hans said it in German though. Only when he said it in English. Still, Diehard is the best Christmas movie ever made.

Good, right?

Lots of coffee, my friend.

Yea, the lettuce pun was good. Not as good as coffee in the morning.

I suspect this may be the proverbial nail in the coffin for me. Considering how and how often I used my AP, not sure if/when I'll be giving the greedy mouse my money again.

Oh no, the lettuce pun was most definitely better than coffee.

Afternoon and Happy Friday Eve! Thoughts with those impacted by the hurricane. Guess that includes me as we are supposed to be impacted by this thing tomorrow with flash floods and tornado watches already. Have a good one gents.
Many also have a Tim's double double running through their veins from birth (anyone besides @pkondz and @declansdad get that one?)
Yep Tim Horton's coffee two creams and two sugars

Morning, Gents! Finally Friday, for real this time. I say "for real this time" because I thought yesterday was Friday. To say that it came as as shock to me when I discovered it was actually Thursday is a bit of an understatement. It truly was a shock, and did it hurt. I think that's why I was in such a bad mood yesterday. Well, today's Friday and a new day, and the next to the last business day of the month which means that our office, and everyone in it, except me, because I'm still learning, is straight out with closings. I'm getting tired of not having anything meaningful to do, and learn, but with everyone being so busy no one has time in their schedules to really show me anything. I might ask someone to let me try and help them today...so we'll see how that goes. Outside that not much is going on. So hope everyone has a good day and we'll chat on the other side.

Getting close, man. I know being at home for the last few months makes this retirement a bit anticlimactic, but you still gotta be getting excited a little bit.

This one says yes, this one says no....take the middle ground and something to drink.

I haven't gone down in years, and certainly not during this time of Covid, so I can't speak to the system, however, the some of the best parts of my last few trips were just winging it. Walking by something and decided at the last second to hop on was part of the fun. Well, I guess I'll have to read up on all this before I decide to head down.

Yea, the lettuce pun was good. Not as good as coffee in the morning.

Nothing is as good as that first cup of coffee in the morning, or soda for me, I don't drink coffee....though maybe I should. Soda makes me fat.

Yes, thoughts and prayers go out to all those impacted by the hurricane. And be safe, my friend.

I understand why they are doing it during the pandemic.
If this is a regular thing afterwards, I won't be happy at all.
I've always had park hoppers. I don't mind booking FP and ADR for the first half of the day, but we often go back to the resort for a midday break, and then decide where to go in the evening, if we even go anywhere. Pre-booking every single thing for the entire day will make a WDW trip too restrictive for me.
I'm sure I will end up in WDW again eventually, but I may take less trips and decide to spend my vacation dollars elsewhere.

I hope it doesn't hit you too bad.
The remnants of Laura are supposed to make it this far north by Sunday. No major impact expected, just some rain, a little wind, and a drop in temperature on the back side of it to about 14C.

Happy Friday. One last sick day to enjoy. And, some early AM sunshine to enjoy before the hurricane remnants. You all have a great day.

I suspect this may be the proverbial nail in the coffin for me. Considering how and how often I used my AP, not sure if/when I'll be giving the greedy mouse my money again.

DW is ready to sell DVC. I'm still on the fence. We've made 24 trips and really enjoyed them all. But, if they keep making it more costly and unfriendly, there has to be a breaking point. Or perhaps, and Endgame.

I hope we can still do attractions without a reservation. But, the new system isn't letting you reserve two parks for thr same day. Maybe it will after COVID. I also didn't enjoy the ADR system. I had to walk by the check in desk, not speak, pull up link on QR code or reservation, register on my phone and wait for a text. If I wanted QS, even a beer, at some places, I had to scan the code, pull up the menu, stand outside, order, pay, then wait to be let in to walk up front and pick up beer.

I'M hoping they will unlock park system after COVID, but it does permit them to keep scheduling better. My concern would be planning it a day ahead as just to an "on the fly" decision while in the park.

Happy Friday Dads! Wind is picking up here with tornado and flash flood watches already in place for basically the rest of the day.

WDW has done good job IMO in figuring out ways to manage through the current COVID with safety top of mind. I am sure there will be some changes post COVID and when things get back to some kind of normal But who knows what those changes are? I think the digital solutions will evolve as the COVID situation changes, hopefully getting better. I think park hopping will return though you may have to schedule that at first and then it should get back to normal. FP+ will likely go to more virtual queues and pay for some type of “FP reservation” as they are gonna need to drive more revenue. Until then gonna enjoy trips scheduled for next year and look forward to 50th anniversary. Have a good weekend guys!

Before I reply...since Dan is gone....that's it I'm calling it...

Last one to Jock Lindsey's for a cheeky Air Pirate's Mule gets to take Mrs. Incredible home. She might tie you up, but let me tell ya, her arms and legs aren't the only thing that can flex and squeeze you.

You sit and a daughter brings it right to you! Then you wake up, chuckle at the absurdity of that ever happening and get it yourself.

Yeah, although it's (used to be) easier for me to just hop over and do whatever, I can imagine when you travel that far, you don't want every little detail to be planned out...it's a vacation for crying out loud...shouldn't be that much WORK.

I'm sure I will end up in WDW again eventually, but I may take less trips and decide to spend my vacation dollars elsewhere.
Very likely what I'll be doing which is really sad...I wanted to move down here (partly) to be closer to Disney.

Happy Friday. One last sick day to enjoy. And, some early AM sunshine to enjoy before the hurricane remnants. You all have a great day.

I'm not selling ours yet. Between renting the points and being able to go to vero, it's still worth it. I've even considered more on the resales market as an investment and give me more points in case we want to do a cruise, but I'm going to wait and see what the resales prices do and try to find an ideal time to buy. To be honest, I go back and forth on these things. One day, I'm ready to just say scr*w it and dump them, but another day I'm thinking at least I can stick with the points I have and another day thinking about adding.

Obviously COVID has changed a lot and not just Disney. Problem for me, right now, is I can't do Disney in any way that's close to how I want to do Disney. I have no idea what the new normal will look like. Will wait and see. As an IT guy, I love technology, but am not, at all, a fan of Disney technology. They've scr*wed the pooch too many times and I wish they'd focus less on making it pretty and more on making it functional and useful. It sucks that you just about HAVE to have your nose stuck in a phone now...not just the kids now.

We'll see. As I said, I don't know what the new normal looks like, but as of right now, the restrictions are not favorable to AP FL residents.

Evening all.

Back from Prince Edward Island and now just enjoying a refreshing Island beer and catching up. Is there anything I need to go back and read?

I can't knock the Flyers goalie this time around (it's not 1986 after all).
When the Canadiens can't score on him in 7 periods or whatever it was, he's doing something right.
I honestly didn't realize he was on the Canadian World Juniors team, but to be fair I am a casual observer of hockey (and sports in general). I'll watch some games, but I don't pay a lot of attention to players names. It's easier to be a couch potato when it's just the red guys vs. the orange guys.

To be fair the Canadians did score more goals in Carey Price than the Flyers did in the series. ;)

Morning all. Hardly any rain here, and no wind. I packed up all the outside furniture though, which was why it didn't hit here. :lmao:

Disboards are acting hinky on my phone, both yesterday and today with lots of pop up ads. I can't backspace to correct a spelling without getting an ad. I hope they fix this soon as it certainly isn't enjoyable

I pointed out VBR and HHI, although we've only been to HHI once as it a difficult booking at 7 months out. Two great resorts for what you would pay at a holiday inn, dues.
