DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Well... I did it. Never in a million years did I think I’d ever run 10K. Took almost an hour and a quarter (average 7’20”/km), but ran the whole thing with no stops.
Congrats GIFs | Tenor

Happy Monday. 3 work days for retirement as I have 2 sick days left to burn this week. Next Monday is my retirement party via Skype. I don't even get cake. Somehow, I'll manage. It feels great to be letting this carp go.

Morning folks.

Bravo. Was that a running picture or did you stop? Either way, great shot.

Next time try drinking them instead of shooting them. ::yes::

:thumbsup2

I drank them first and then shot them. I was surprisingly accurate with my 22 pistol from long range (30 - 40 feet). But, it doesn't compare to using a 12 gauge shotgun to blast the empty beer can, exploding it and the top of the wooden dowel.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Nice low key weekend here. Another Monday but what the heck it puts kids through school, Disney trips and food on the table and roof above. Thoughts to those on the Gulf Coast this week, welcome to 2020. Have a good one chaps!

Congrats Norm! Hope the new gig all works out for you

Morning, guys.

Going to through up a link to a Zoom room and I'll put it over in the book of faces as well. It is an open room so anyone can get in without the host being there. I'll be on at some time this evening but we are visiting some friends so it may be later. I'm sure some of the regulars will be joining it at some time as well.

Have a great Saturday all.

It's cool that you keep setting these up. I'm usually running around doing something with the family, but it's nice to know there's a hangout available.

It's all relative. I planned to wait for the full 27 for my retirement, but piece of mind won out in the end. There are so many factors to consider. I never figured I would stop working, so I just needed to find a comparable pay job. The next will be enough money for the 2nd house, and then maybe retire. But, we could probably make it on my retirement check now and DW working, with a really tight budget.

Sounds like a solid plan to me.

Awesome! Congratulations!

So Monday morning bit me in the butt.

I was scheduled to host a zoom meeting with our members and officials from Public Health. Zoom decided to have some massive outages and when you tried to sign in it told you that you had no account but if if manually joined the meeting by typing the meeting ID and password, you could get in. I managed to do that about halfway through the meeting.

nice morning here but the humidity hits quick if you do anything.
Only one day in the office this week and then off for a few days vacation.
Next Monday is my retirement party via Skype. I don't even get cake.
I drank them first and then shot them.

 Don't quite get that sense of accomplishment?

Thanks! Running, didn't stop once. Managed to pull an ear bud out, but kept going.
Congrats!
Congratulations
Thanks, guys! :)

Dunno, Darcy... that sounds more like a win, to me.

:rolleyes1

Tried my hand at making dilled green beans this morning, let you know in a week how it went.
I've never heard of dilled green beans. Will have to look that up. Like both, so maybe a good combo.

Well... I did it. Never in a million years did I think I’d ever run 10K
Congrats! Good job. (Figure Randall will be along with his gif)

Morning, folks.
30 more minutes and I'm done work for the day.
Have a good one, y'all. I plan to sleep through the rest of the day.

Morning, Gents! FINALLY I'M BACK ONLINE!!!! Man, never know how much you use something until it's gone. Our internet went out a Friday, right around lunchtime and we didn't get it back until yesterday afternoon. The service tech from Verizon fiddled with something on the pole for a while, left and then came back. He eventually fixed it. Apparently it had to do with the little mouse they keep hidden inside the box on the pole. Apparently the little guy pulled a hammie and couldn't continue running, so the wheel stopped moving, thus powering the internet. Poor little guy. They gave him a tiny little Gatorade bottle, brought in a replacement and off they went. 😆 I honestly have no idea what the problem was, but I do know it was two things inside the box on the pole, but it's now fixed and I'm online. Wwweeeee!!!!!!!

Ok, time to catch up. Well, the weekend went well. Had my test Saturday morning, and now I wait for the results. I'm honestly not expecting to pass this one, really didn't study all that much, but I used it more to judge where I'm at and need improvement. Well, that and I have a second test voucher that was due to expire in September, which I knew I wouldn't be ready for. So, I got an extension for my second voucher, but only if I took the first test before the expiration date. So now my second exam voucher has been extended a year...plenty of time to study. My photo gig got moved to Sunday due to a thunderstorm that rumbled through, but it finally happened Sunday evening. Outside that, it was a pretty quiet weekend. The wife ordered some new tile for the kitchen, stick on type, to replace the old fading yellow one's we have now. It's been fun trying to put that down because nothing seems to be truly square in the house, so nothing to really go off of. So we're starting with the middle of the kitchen and working our way outwards. We'll see how it goes at the end.
Gotta run, have a good day, gents, and we'll chat on the other side.

Good luck with the test.

Thanks. Considering I a run of not wanting to study, I thought I did ok...but we'll see.

You've mentioned the photography hobby before, do you have somewhere that you share your photos?

I do, I have a photography page on both Facebook and Instagram. I know they are out in wide world of the internet, but I'm a little skittish sharing the links on a public forum, so I'll share the links via private message. I know, it doesn't make sense, but that's the way my brain works.

I associated schadenfreude with the pleasure in someone else's failures & karma as "what goes around comes around". I've compared Schandefreude to the mortal sin of envy. For example, I'm not just jealous that someone has a new truck, but I hope they wreck it and then AM happy when they do.

That's kind of how I associate the word. Sure, it means more than what I'm using it for, but I get just as much pleasure out of someone else's misfortune if it's just a case of karma coming back to bite someone in the butt...as you said, "What goes around comes around."

My Friday was yesterday. Today is Saturday 1, tomorrow is Saturday 2.

:thumbsup2

Ah! Thought you'd maybe dropped that. Good luck, although you say you haven't studied.

Nope didn't drop it...just been quite about it. Thanks, considering I haven't studied for it, I thought I did better than I was going to. We'll see.

Long day!
What kind of photo gig? What do you shoot?

It was a long day, and wound up having to move the photo gig to Sunday because of rain. I do portraits, headshots (though I'm just beginning this one) and theatrical production photos for marketing, I've had the pleasure of having the front page of the Arts and Entertainment section of my paper a few times. Bye Bye Birdie was just one production I took pictures for.

Troll!!!!!

:teeth: Not usually, but I do like to state my opinion from time to time, and that does seem to be enough for me to kick the hornet's nest.

Now, I get to leave 2 jobs at the same time and start a new one.

Well, congratulations on the new start then. You've got to be excited.

Morning All,

Nice, quiet Saturday morning here. Fog is just starting to burn off and the crows and jays have been talking all morning.

Going to through up a link to a Zoom room and I'll put it over in the book of faces as well. It is an open room so anyone can get in without the host being there. And because of the internet being out at my house I missed it! :guilty:

That's awesome!

Not when you are suppose to be the one running the meeting.

That would be a problem.

Morning all and happy Tuesday. Is it the 165th groundhog day? Ugh.

My youngest watched something about propagating lettuce. So, here's something new.

The only thing I have to do is watch lettuce grow. Wow, I really need to get to work before I lose what's left of my brain.

Dual hurricanes in the Golf of Mexico. Who had that for August 2020 bingo hell? There's a chance we get the remnants here on Friday evening.

Never shoot glass - too much to clean up. Then, start shooting close, hit target, and then back up. Consider adding the other hand to aim the gun. I know it's a comedy skit, so watch out for the large, falling icicles in order to not shoot your eye out.

That made me tired reading all that. Life felt that wat when mine were younger, having to drive them to all the stuff we signed them up for. I'm thankful it has slowed down. As for the vermin in the internet lines, I use to think something similar. At the old office building, when it rained, it seemed like the internet either stopped working or dramatically slowed down. I said the rats were drowning in the rain, and couldn't swim to deliver the messages.

I've never been an Islanders fan until now.
(Sorry Mark)

What did I ever do to you?

Actually, knowing what usually happens to the teams you root for, this is great news! :stir:

30 more minutes and I'm done work for the day.
Have a good one, y'all. I plan to sleep through the rest of the day.

Sounds like a much better day than mine.

Our internet went out a Friday, right around lunchtime and we didn't get it back until yesterday afternoon.

It's amazing how much we depend on the internet now. We lost power during the storm a couple of weeks ago and had no idea what to do with ourselves.

Never shoot glass - too much to clean up.

Unless you're fighting John McClane.

Dual hurricanes in the Golf of Mexico. Who had that for August 2020 bingo hell?

They say things go in cycles, so I'm taking that to mean 2021 is going to be the greatest year of all time.
