DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
And, the 159th Groundhog Day, or something like that. Feels like time is moving even slower. 7 more days of work to retirement and 4 more days to a job offer seem like an eternity. I never have been good with waiting.

7 more days to retirement? Wow, you must feel both excited and scared at the same time. Can't imagine what that would feel like.

Sounds like you are starting things out right. Learn it the way they want it done, so you don't have to redo a second time.

I'm trying to start things off right. When I don't have work to do, which is a good chunk of time right now, the last paralegal got them caught up on work for several weeks out, I spend most of my time reading files, taking notes and learning from them. I found a treasure trove of checklists in a folder on the server, so I spent some time saving them to my personal folder on the server and altering them to suit my needs. You know, making extra spaces for notes, so whenever I open a new file, in goes a checklist.

And it feels great to have options, but I really can't decide what to do. I'll make more $ at the factory. My neighbor works there and gets all the OT he wants. While I won't have to do much planning or thinking, I'll have no control of my schedule, less vacation time, and be at the bottom for seniority. At the Church job, I get a lot of control over my schedule, lots of leave time, but I have to think, plan, coordinate, and schedule things a year out, and be willing to change those plans based on the immediate need.

That's hardest part is trying to decide what to do. When I was offered the position at the post office, I thought long and hard on that one and ultimately had to make a choice based on a list of pros and cons. It's a tough decision, my friend, and if you want to vent it here on the boards, we're here for you as a sounding board.

Morning folks.
Today is a Monday for me as I'm back to work today. But not til 3pm... so does that mean my Monday is actually Monday afternoon?

Nah, I'd still call that a Monday.

Old people don't take kindly to change.

No they don't. hahaha

Ah! So... a lawyer.

More like a wanna be lawyer. She made decisions that were supposed to be the attorneys to make, but she did it anyways.

I don't have friends, so it works out well for me.

Oh, I'm sure you have one or two...I count you as a friend, well, not a hangout type friend, that's a distance related thing, but a friend.

I call that a win

You're right, that is a win. I may have missed my movie watching time, but it's still a win.

Yeah...unless you're watching here Saturday night, it's easy to miss. Also too late for some of us.

Yep, generally too late for me, unless I get on for a half hour.

Actually, it's fine. I just have to get up early for work and then church Sunday morning, so I'm not a night owl.

Let me know when y'all would like to do a 5am call...

Not a night owl either, so if ever you wanted to meet up at 5 am, I'm game...I'm up at that time also.

Morning guys from a overcast London, where we have had a months worth of rain in 2 days. Wheels down as I go on a staycation in Cornwall from Thursday for a week or so, so everyone wants a piece of Danny right now. The Lady Ks Grandma is unfortunately on her way out, so here's hoping for a painless passing. She's 95 so she's had a good ol' innings, and the Lady K and her have never been close, so it is what it is.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Lady K and the rest of the family.

Or in Lawyer speak, 6 hours of billings.

Pretty much.

I tried to jump on at around 0630 my time, but it had wrapped up. 0130 starts are a bit of a challenge for those of us on the other East Coast.

Well, if ever you're online on a weekend and want to chat, say early morning for me, about 5 hours behind, I'd be more than happy to jump on and chat, or the other way around if the DW doesn't have me doing something.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Monday, ugh. Got DS moved into his off campus ( literally 2 minute walk and on campus) studio apartment and got all his tech and some small organizational type furniture set-up. You can tell he was ready to get out on his own for his final year of school after being at home since mid-March. I know I've stated this elsewhere but I really do feel bad for these kids as the college experience and Sr years of High School are just not what they should be. Let's have a good week and stay safe out there.

How exciting for your DS, he's gotta be excited.

through the whole quarantine thing I just kept thinking that my day to day social life didn’t really change a whole lot 😆
::yes::
More like a wanna be lawyer. She made decisions that were supposed to be the attorneys to make, but she did it anyways.
I sit corrected.
Oh, I'm sure you have one or two...I count you as a friend, well, not a hangout type friend, that's a distance related thing, but a friend.
I have a few long distance friends, and I have a few "work" friends, but...

through the whole quarantine thing I just kept thinking that my day to day social life didn’t really change a whole lot 😆

This whole quarantine thing didn't change a whole lot in my social life either. My wife and I do have friends that we get together with on Saturday mornings for breakfast, been doing it for 15 years, so that's been affected, but outside that not much has changed.

I sit corrected.

She acted like an attorney, and she certainly knew her stuff, so the confusion was there. She even wishes she was an attorney.

I have a few long distance friends, and I have a few "work" friends, but...

See there? You have friends. :thumbsup2

Morning All,

Our Premier called a snap election yesterday. There are lots of people who are acting stupid right now, we didn't need to have an election right now. Three weeks from school returning and even the teachers don't know what's going on, this is so not needed right now.

Hay Y'all...
Well, I get to work from home for a little while.
We have to fill out a health questionnaire every morning to be allowed in the office and I've been feeling a bit off since about Friday and couldn't say "no" to everything on the list. So now I've got a COVID test scheduled for this morning and I have to stay home and work until we get the results back. Honestly, I don't think that's what's wrong. But then again, it will be good to rule it out and my physician won't see me until afterword either, so...

And it feels great to have options, but I really can't decide what to do. I'll make more $ at the factory. My neighbor works there and gets all the OT he wants. Tough trade off there; compensation or control.
At different times in my life i'd have had different opinions on which mattered more (but right now, just being employed at all is kind'a king).
May you find the path that works best for you now.

Today is a Monday for me as I'm back to work today. But not til 3pm... so does that mean my Monday is actually Monday afternoon?
It's just a Monday...

Actually your take reminds me of when I worked odd hours as a much younger man. I referred to the days of the week not by the calendar but by my own definitions of "The Relative Day of the Week" and Definition-1 stated: If you didn't work yesterday but you're working today, then it's Monday.

I don't have friends, so it works out well for me.
Interesting.
I thought I was the only person who didn't have any friends.

I mean, yeah, I "know" people...
But I don't have any friends.

Sounds a lot like me.
through the whole quarantine thing I just kept thinking that my day to day social life didn’t really change a whole lot 😆
Yeah.
Almost nothing actually changed except the upgrade of working from home.

The Lady Ks Grandma is unfortunately on her way out, so here's hoping for a painless passing. She's 95 so she's had a good ol' innings, and the Lady K and her have never been close, so it is what it is.
Sorry to hear that sir, and may you all find solace.
Ninety-five is a good allotment, but this is still not what anyone want's to hear.

I really do feel bad for these kids as the college experience and Sr years of High School are just not what they should be.
That is very unfortunate.
So many disruptions in so many ways.
I do feel sad for many lost opportunities caused by this situation.

Let's have a good week and stay safe out there.
Working on it.

Our Premier called a snap election yesterday. There are lots of people who are acting stupid right now, we didn't need to have an election right now.
One of the down sides of the Parliamentary System.
But then again, It comes with a number of up sides that I'd dearly love to see here, but that ain't happening.

Morning all. Finished up one more project for work yesterday, and still have one more to go. Still have 3.5 sick days to burn, so today is one of them. It's not like I get could get fired for not finishing them, but I still have some integrity for the nickel that's worth.

Actually...aside from the potential lost sleep because I want to watch just one more episode, it is an actual thank you.

I took it that way. Hope you can get some sleep.

Hey, fellas. I'm back from vacation and refreshed and ready to get back to the grind at work.

Or maybe I'm back from vacation and refreshed.

Or I'm just back from vacation.

Anyway, it was a good week and a lot of fun. Not bad for plan B. Hope you guys had a good week.

It's good to get away. Unless we well Alaska off after the election, it should still be there next year.

Is that all? It feels longer. Congrats on the pickleball.

Thanks. I tried to get my West Ham hat on for the photo, but they were in a hurry to get the picture.

Sorry to hear about Lady Ks grandma.

Congrats Norm!

Thanks.

Hope your DS can enjoy what is left of his last year, and maybe it will our return to normal soon. To reference the Man in the High Castle, I'm calling our Governor the Obergruppenführer who is permitting 28,000 people from everywhere to gather for the KY derby, but cancelled a few hundred people in small town KY to have senior prom or graduation.

7 more days to retirement? Wow, you must feel both excited and scared at the same time. Can't imagine what that would feel like.

The retirement is almost anticlimactic at this point since we've been "working from home" for 5 months, and because I'm working another job.

Like you, I figured out how to maximize efficiency over the years. So, even though they are still significant projects, I can knock them out quickly.

My social life changed some. We had already curtailed restaurants and fast food with the keto diet. In the beginning, tennis & pickleball courts were stupidly closed, which was hanging out with friends about 4 times a week for me. We didn't get together as a family for Easter (which may be good & bad), and we had to delay dd's graduation party to June.

Nice to hear from you Mark. I was thinking about you and hoping you were coping all right in that little shack on the hill I saw you post on FB
#sarcasm

It was rough, being that far out in the wilderness, but we managed to survive.

Seriously, that place was awesome. Some friends went with us so we could split the cost--that was a big help.

But seriously, glad you had a good time, it looked great.

Thanks!

Well, I get to work from home for a little while.

Hope you feel better, though. And you don't have to tell them when you do. :rolleyes1

That is very unfortunate.
So many disruptions in so many ways.
I do feel sad for many lost opportunities caused by this situation.

I feel bad for my daughter. She didn't get the full "senior year" celebration and now her freshman year is going to be kind of messed up. All we can do is make the best of it. This too shall pass.

I have a few long distance friends, and I have a few "work" friends, but...

Interesting.
I thought I was the only person who didn't have any friends.

I mean, yeah, I "know" people...
But I don't have any friends.

I don't give out my phone number to just anybody, you know.

I know you were bummed out plan A was messed up, but glad plan B was great. Looking forward to seeing/hearing about it.

don't give out my phone number to just anybody, you know.
Obviously that is a lie...you gave it to me.

One of the down sides of the Parliamentary System.
But then again, It comes with a number of up sides that I'd dearly love to see here, but that ain't happening.

I have no big issues with our system. We actually have fixed date elections but that doesn't mean a premier can't call an early election. We have a minority government here with another 2 years left in the mandate. There are two major parties and two minor parties holding seats in the legislature that have been working together throughout the pandemic but lately the two major parties have been playing games. The one in opposition sees an opportunity to take down the government and the governing party has seen an upswing in popularity because of the handling of the pandemic. Each are looking for control and now we have an election that we don't need and can't really afford. They suspended all municipal elections last spring because of the pandemic but they haven't allowed them to proceed yet.

We have to fill out a health questionnaire every morning to be allowed in the office and I've been feeling a bit off since about Friday and couldn't say "no" to everything on the list. Morning guys. Amazing how fast a week off flies by. My last day off today before starting another two week cycle tomorrow.
I’m going to try relaxing a bit today, the honey do list got as short as it’s going to get this time around.
I told the wife I’m sitting in the backyard with the cat and a bottle and not coming in until the bottle is gone. The cat is a lightweight so it could be an interesting afternoon.

Morning All,

Our Premier called a snap election yesterday. There are lots of people who are acting stupid right now, we didn't need to have an election right now. Three weeks from school returning and even the teachers don't know what's going on, this is so not needed right now.
I saw that on the news last night. I thought an election right now is unnecessary if it can be avoided.
We just had our provincial governing Liberal party elect a new leader and therefore Premier. Because of that an election has to be called within 12 months. I’m hoping it will be later.

We have to fill out a health questionnaire every morning to be allowed in the office
I have to do the same thing if I want to go to the office. But they are still encouraging work from home where possible. I’ll do what I can to keep it that way.

I hope you’re feeling better and the test doesn’t turn up anything.

To reference the Man in the High Castle, I'm calling our Governor the Obergruppenführer who is permitting 28,000 people from everywhere to gather for the KY derby, but cancelled a few hundred people in small town KY to have senior prom or graduation.
Yeah that doesn’t pass the smell test. Throughout all this, my opinion has been somewhere in the middle, I think. But decisions like that start to move my needle.
Yesterday my province announced a couple things. One, that mask use will be mandatory in all public indoor spaces as of this Monday. Two, that schools are opening in September at full capacity, with masks worn in hallways but not classrooms. I’m not getting into the mask effectiveness debate, but our government is saying it’s safe for kids to be in a classroom with 30 students and no mask, yet it’s not safe to be in a Walmart where you can distance yourself farther from people. It has to be one way or the other.
It’s these inconsistencies in policy that are starting to tick me off.

Afternoon guys from a sunny and busy London. Thanks for all the well wishes and thoughts, Lady K's grandma passed away last night, so that happened. I try not to speak ill of the dead, and its a tough thing to say, but no tears were shed here, but no-one wanted to see her suffer. Calls calls calls today, and K has had to go back in the office today. When does school start again? 2023? Something like that?

And God forbid you knew how to use herbs...then you'd be branded a witch.

The cat is a lightweight so it could be an interesting afternoon.
Think of it as an opportunity to share your skills. Enjoy your last day off mate.
My social life changed some.
Ours changed a whole bunch. It's nowhere near to what it was, but then it's been quite nice to relax at the weekends and not have to worry about where we have to be.
Thanks. I tried to get my West Ham hat on for the photo,
Attaboy
So now I've got a COVID test scheduled for this morning
Hope that goes OK mate
Well, if ever you're online on a weekend and want to chat, say early morning for me, about 5 hours behind,
Maybe we should do a Mother Ship zoom call, with the guys on here........rather than the FB group as I know not everyone is on FB
e but I really do feel bad for these kids as the college experience
I know what I was doing all through college would certainly breach social distancing guidelines.....

Have a great day chaps

Top O the Mornin Dads! Up to it working on 2021 budgets - anyone know how all this pandemic stuff is gonna play out next year? Have a good one gents and be safe
Hay Y'all...

Positive thoughts that test will be a negative result and that its nothing else serious

Ew. Well, have fun with that (and hope it comes back negative.)
Actually your take reminds me of when I worked odd hours as a much younger man. I referred to the days of the week not by the calendar but by my own definitions of "The Relative Day of the Week" and Definition-1 stated: If you didn't work yesterday but you're working today, then it's Monday.
My standard answer is "I'm a shift worker. I don't know what day it is."
I mean, yeah, I "know" people...
But I don't have any friends.
Looks like all us friends don't have friends.
I don't give out my phone number to just anybody, you know.
The facts don't support that.
My last day off today before starting another two week cycle tomorrow.
nooooo....

Yeah... I've noticed that too. Unless they're saying that the mortality rate for young children/young adults is so low that it's an acceptable practice. Maybe as long as the kids then don't go visit they're elderly relatives?
Lady K's grandma passed away last night,
My condolences.

Oh, darn. That's just a dang shame. Oh, the humanity.

Hope you feel better, though. And you don't have to tell them when you do. :rolleyes1
T'is a shame

However, I do have to tell them when the results get back.
Being ill isn't an excepted reason for not being in the office.
COVID is the only current exception to that paradigm.

I feel bad for my daughter. She didn't get the full "senior year" celebration and now her freshman year is going to be kind of messed up. All we can do is make the best of it. This too shall pass.
Wait, there was supposed to have been joy and celebration during one's senior year?

Well that's not quite fair.
I'm sure "normal" folks do actually enjoy their youth.
And I do feel bad for your girl and all the others of similar age for having everything so out of kilter.

I don't give out my phone number to just anybody, you know.
I don't know...
I've seen a few pictures of at least one of us hanging around some fairly questionable characters.

The one in opposition sees an opportunity to take down the government and the governing party has seen an upswing in popularity because of the handling of the pandemic.
Well, one of those two groups is wrong in their assessment.
Y'all well now be sortin' out just which one it is in short order.

I told the wife I’m sitting in the backyard with the cat and a bottle and not coming in until the bottle is gone. The cat is a lightweight so it could be an interesting afternoon.
Oh, we'll be needin' pictures to back this one up.

Hope that goes OK mate
Positive thoughts that test will be a negative result and that its nothing else serious
Ew. Well, have fun with that (and hope it comes back negative.)
Thanks y'all.
It's not a particularly present test, but it beats the heck out of having an EMG done, I'll tell you that much.

Like I said, I don't think that's what's wrong, but we'll see.

Hay Y'all...

Not a bad gig if you can get it, sorry you feel bad, and hope and pray you don't have Covid, but still...working from home isn't bad.

It was rough, being that far out in the wilderness, but we managed to survive.
