DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
There's always renting dvc points. There are quite a few dads here, or on FB page, who will rent to other dads and give a good price. I only rented once to Carl. I wouldn't rent or use one of the broker's sites, but the majority of the guys here have enough integrity not to you over.
I've rented to two of the guys here and I think they've both been happy

Question: When I went in back way back in the late 80's, we had a ship date when I signed the contract. Is that not how it's done today, or this because of the COVID-19 thing?
More recruits than jobs. When he signed he gave them a list of jobs he was willing to do. Once a month jobs drop and the recruiters have a draft from their eligible recruits for the available jobs. Hopefully being in contact with the recruiter regularly and acting motivated keeps you near the top of the list.

Morning, fellas. If you hadn't heard, we finally pulled the plug on our Alaska trip yesterday. That hurt, not gonna lie. But today I feel like it was the right call. Currently trying to come up with a quick plan B for summer vacation.

Interesting developments at work. Time to take a leaf out of Kenny Roger's book.

Uh oh. That sounds a bit ominous.

Sorry about the trip mate, I saw on FB.

Thanks. You've already been through the 5 stages of grief with your own trip, so I'm just a little ways behind you.

Beautiful sunny morning. Having breakfast on the patio.
First day off in 27 days.
That is all.

Enjoy! There's nothing that says you have to move from that spot today. Unless you have a honey-do list.

Still no word from the law firm, but the email I got from the partner indicated that today was the deadline for them to make a decision. So at some point today I'll either really happy, or really sad.

Keep us posted, either way. Hope it works out.

Nope, no one is, but I try to be, and can take screw ups on my part pretty hard. Oh well, live and learn

We all make mistakes. That's how we learn. I tell my guys not to be afraid to make mistakes. It's the repeated mistakes that become a problem.

The ol' "It's not what you know, it's who you know" game. Makes sense to try and have a good relationship with the recruiter.

Does this means we get daily videos?
I'm starting the cycle again on January though, that's looking dicier by the week. And there ain't no marathon running in a mask in Florida, that's just not doable.
Uh oh. That sounds a bit ominous.
Nah mate, all good.

Yeah...not understanding that...going through in my head all the Kenny Rogers songs that could fit. Guess you picked a fine time to leave me Lucile isn't it.

I kinda gathered that based on Dan's comment about seeing something on FB. While I'm sad for y'all, I think.it was the right call also. Maybe go to one of the parks y'all really liked, but Drew hasn't been to yet. Ask everyone (well older kids and Julie) where they'd like to go again and see if you can make it happen.

We'll have to see if I have the bandwidth for daily videos. I'm not sure to re-create Alaska's mountains in Delaware. The highest point of elevation in our state is my neighbor's deck.

Nah mate, all good.

I was worried things got bad enough you were trying to figure out whether to walk away or to run.

We're talking about just renting a cabin somewhere. Much easier to social distance that way.

More what to throw away, and what to knowin' what to keep.
Cause every hand's a winner, and every hand's a loser.

Hay Y'all...
If'n you have to endure them, then conference call meetings are at least better then in person meetings. Especially if you can sit in your own house and just listen in.

Oddly (or maybe not)...
I'm going to be a mite sad when I have to report back to the office.

Good news. Oldest dd's new employer won't require her to quarentine on the whims of the Governor, unless she actually has symptoms which of course is logical. It would only now impact my younger daughter who has early college orientation. But, I think we could get her tested and results back before orientation. And, I applied for a good paying factory job really close to my house as I saw it on Indeed yesterday. They called me today for a virtual interview Friday morning. Maybe I'm just to fill their old, fat guy interview quota, but it feels good to be wanted.
Well, at least this sounds a smidgen better then it did yesterday.
May y'all actually get to make the trip and may it go without too many hitches in the gitty-up.

I know that money shouldn't drive decisions, but it certainly influences most.
"Most" might be a mite on the side of kind.
If not driven directly, dang few decision are devoid of the consideration.

We are waiting until he can put on some weight and muscle but he would really like to start on with his life and get out of KY by the end of the year.
And that seems a good goal.
May he get the post that suits both him and the service best.

Time to take a leaf out of Kenny Roger's book.
So...
are you gonn'a toss in this hand and wait for the next deal, or up the anti?

"All"!?!...
I'd say that's enough.
You need to make every effort to make no effort for a spell.

It's getting hot here, upper 80's really, but it's the humidity that gets to me.
Yep. It's the air thick enough to grab handfuls of that's the real problem. There's a difference between it being hot outside, and it being "Southern" outside. Middle-high 90s is a mite warm, but the relative 100s to 110s that you get with 94% humidity can be somewhat - shall we say - uncomfy.

Of course now would be the time that our A/C decides to go on strike.
Currently waiting on a call back from the warranty and repair folks.

<Sighhhh>...

Sorry to hear it. If y'all go next year, you'll have to tell us about when. We've been considering doing the inside passage at some point and next summer might be a good time for it.

I'm also curious to see what y'all come up with for Plan-B

We'll have to see if I have the bandwidth for daily videos. I'm not sure to re-create Alaska's mountains in Delaware.
The image that first smacked me in the head was something similar to the Stonehenge prop from the film "This is Spinaltap".

The notion of "mountains" that we "in danger of being trod upon", already has me snickering.

I know that money shouldn't drive decisions, but it certainly influences most.
I respectfully disagree.
Our pastor in GA said this and I think it's true....

Everything is an economic decision...you decide is it worth more to do X or to not do X.

Economic doesn't ALWAYS mean money...there can be other non-monetary costs, but very often the decision is how much will this cost? Is it worth that much to me? And that drives our decisions.

Think about as kids... we'd think, if I do this I'm going to get punishment from my parents. Is it (whatever it is) worth it? Many times no, but(maybe it's just me) sometimes it was.

And there's a hurricane now outside of Florida? Oh well. We are all in now.

Thanks. Barring some catastrophic government order or disaster in the next 36 hours, it's a go. Even then, I may fight thru the zombie apocalypse to get to WDW.

I respectfully disagree.

I wasn't thinking about when I was a kid, just as an adult. As a kid, I never thought about a poor decision until I was getting spanked. And, it was immediately forgotten as I got it often. I never even thought about consequences until it was too late. I was (and am still) dumb.

I understand what you mean by an economic decision as opposed to a money decision. And, I probably meant that comment as it comes to big decisions like a vacation, buying a house, and major choices. I really wasn't thinking of it terms of which flavor of ice cream to buy, although, they still have prices displayed and I only bought Breyers when it was on sale.

I'm just going to come out and say it: I GOT THE JOB!!!!! (doing the happy dance, well, kind of...don't want to throw out a knee) I got the call yesterday afternoon right about break time, and I couldn't be happier. By the time I got around to telling my supervisor it was late in the afternoon, so I haven't told HR yet, but that'll be first thing this morning. (heavy sigh) I feel great! In fact, last night was the best sleep I've had in a long time. Heading in early today so I can train the guys on how I do my job, so...have a good day, gents, and we'll chat later.

Made it to Wednesday, and the vacation eating has started early.

Isn't that always the case?

That's a big spike in cases for such a small area. Florida got caught up in an over reporting snafu and there are individual stories & videos about over counting or being contacted by the Health Dept for being positive when they weren't tested. If we believe them. I do wonder that with this rush to manufacture tests, was their an unintentional glitch in their process that reveals too many false positives? If 38 players tested positive, 1 other family member in each was infected (76), they went to work or Walmart, etc then wouldn't your whole county be infected by the end of the week?

Yeah all this testing equipment came out pretty quickly, so I'm sure some of these tests aren't exact, and therefore, give out some false positives. But that's just my thinking.

The waiting is the worst. Let us know.

It is the worst, but I'm happy to announce that, I GOT THE JOB!!!! I was beginning to think if they were checking with the other person before getting to me. I don't know, but in the end I go the job. So happy.

That inconsistency and lack of coherent plan has bothered me from the beginning.
Close churches and small businesses, but not large corporate stores.
Lay off medical workers during a pandemic due to a lack of "elective" procedures.
Protesting rascism can't spread the virus, but protesting lockdowns can.
Don't wear a mask. Wear a mask. Bandannas work. Bandannas don't work. Children under 2, wait 3, wait 5 don't wear masks because they don't spread a virus.
Adults wear masks while walking but not sitting in a restaurant.

It may have just been easier to admit it's an unknown virus, we don't know what to do, and we are guessing everyday.

I'm with ya on the inconsistencies.

And if her employer needed her to quarentine, then she would do it. I didn't want her to get fired from a new job right away. We are still individuals, and some laws/ orders decreed for everyone just don't make sense, especially when one group is then given an exemption.

If her employer is cool with her coming in if she feels ok and not showing any signs, then that's cool.

I've rented to two of the guys here and I think they've both been happy

That's cool. When someone rents from you, do they get to set up all the fast passes and dinning reservations, or do you do it as the owner of the points?

Makes sense. That also makes me feel good that there are so many young kids who want to go into the military to serve their country, even if it's just for a job and college education.

Keep us posted, either way. Hope it works out.

No more waiting! I got the job! So happy I can't even tell ya. After all that's happened over the last year and a half I needed this.

We all make mistakes. That's how we learn. I tell my guys not to be afraid to make mistakes. It's the repeated mistakes that become a problem.

We do all make mistakes, and I sometimes think that Bill, the guy I work with, forgets that. If I make the same mistake over and over again, I really get T'd off at myself. I hate making mistakes to begin with, but repeated mistakes I really loath.

I grew up in southern New Mexico where the temps can get over 100 degrees easy. It's the humidity that kills me. I've gotten use to it being here in New England now for over 20 years, but there are days it still gets to me.

I make the reservation in their name and do the DME (If needed) reservation. Once booked, I give you the reservation number, which you put into MDE and everything else is still done by you.

Second beautiful sunny day of my week off.
Second breakfast on the patio.
DW is off today as well. Planning on going out to a proper sit down restaurant for lunch for the first time in I can’t recall how many months.
My city (which most of you would probably consider a big town) has turned one of the downtown streets into a pedestrian mall for the summer to boost restaurant/ shop income after the shut down. I haven’t had a chance to enjoy it yet, so looking forward to it.

Unless you have a honey-do list.
Well, isn’t there always one of those?
I did spend a fair bit of time enjoying the patio, but I managed to do a small paint touch up job on the front step and mow the lawn.
Not a bad day overall.

Morning, fellas. If you hadn't heard, we finally pulled the plug on our Alaska trip yesterday. That hurt, not gonna lie. But today I feel like it was the right call. Currently trying to come up with a quick plan B for summer vacation.
Saw on FB. Sad face sent.
Really sucks how everyone’s plans are going down the toilet this year.

I’m thinking of renting a cabin as well, just not sure when or where.

Oddly (or maybe not)...
I'm going to be a mite sad when I have to report back to the office.
I’m getting used to working from home. I’m thinking of making a more permanent set up to work from home long term (if I remain employed of course)

I'm just going to come out and say it: I GOT THE JOB!!!!! (
Great news, congrats!
