DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Evening guys from a humid and hectic London. I was in one of my sort out modes these last few days.
It started off with me taking down the boys bunk bed, as he has a new bed arriving in a couple of weeks. I've arranged for a charity to have his old one, but they needed me to dismantle it. Not a problem. This led to me completely revamping the DSs room, including painting, partitioning off a new gaming zone with the PS4 and a gaming chair and a new TV (he thinks all his Xmas's have come at once) and running all the cabling for that. This led to me turning the playroom back into a shared space with the kids with a bit of an office attached. To find the desk we had I had to sort out the attic as well. You know when you wish you hadn't started something? Started on Saturday 8am, finished about an hour ago. It looks like I could be WFH until January, ironically I will probably be in NY before I get to go back into the office, so I needed a decent setup, at least it's done.

Hope all is good in the Disdad worlds, and @declansdad, have a good break my friend. Welcome back Rob. Ponzie - Taco Bell? Is this some kind of crash diet strategy? Saying that, I've never had it. Jeff, take a break mate.
Norm, you're part of the West Ham family now mate. Sorry for that.

Happy Sunday guys.
Things I see in my future...
Church in a couple hours, grilling and then nap. Maybe even a cheeky swim  @londontime
Is this where I mention Budgie Smugglers?
Morning all. 007 must be sleeping off a doozy as his West Ham United remain in the top flight. I'm taking full credit for their success as I watched some of the matches since the re-start and cheered them to victory.
As you should. You were a better fan than I was for a few weeks there, I had them written off.

Right, I'm dog tired, just stopped in to say hi. Have a great evening chaps.

I think all his Xmas's have come too!
Ponzie - Taco Bell? Is this some kind of crash diet strategy? Saying that, I've never had it.
It's certainly one way to lose weight.

Morning, Gents! Well, got through workday yesterday without any word from the potential new job. I did, however, get an email last night from one of the partners that said, "...we should be making a decision today, but don't be surprised if it goes to Wednesday." I know my DMiL, who's an attorney, is working with the named partner on a case, so she's been keeping him busy. Hopefully I'll hear something today. Otherwise, yesterday was not a good day. Seems I made some mistakes that came back to bit me in the butt yesterday. I have no one to blame but myself, and I was mad at myself for making those mistakes. Oh well, we live and learn, right? Can't fix 'em unless we know about 'em. Otherwise yesterday was a good day. Now on to today.

TTFN

I’ve only had it once, in Orlando. I thought it was Ok but wouldn’t go out of my way for it.
There was a franchise that opened here in St. John’s about 15 or 20 years ago but it closed after a few years. It never caught on. I never tried it so I can’t say if it was up to the standard of culinary excellence at other Taco Bells or not.

I love Taco Bell, even though it's not real Mexican food. Sometimes I just get a craving for a good sloppy taco, or bean burrito. Mmmmm

I know the feeling.
I’m now starting day #24 straight of 12 hour shifts. Last month when I was on week 7 without work, all I was hoping for was to get a few days pay to get by.
My enthusiasm is getting lower by the day. Looking forward to a break this week.
But I don’t want to complain. Many in my industry, and others, have no job to go back to.
I’m trying to count my blessings while I can.

WOW! 24 days straight of 12 hour shifts?! Hope you get paid hourly. I know the feeling: You want a job, and eventually get that job, but then when you work a ton of hours you start to lose interest, or, I should say, enthusiasm. I'm happy to be working, but yesterday I just wasn't having it. Well, hope you get a day off at some point, my friend.

Happy Monday morning. In today's Disney update, I read online where someone had their park hopper to one ticket per day difference refunded. So, I thought why not do the same since I won't be using APs. After 6 phone calls, re-routing, dodging, saying it's not possible, and finally a long hold, it was DW who finally reached the right person who took care of it in 5 minutes. The $900 we got refunded will just be spent in food and drink at WDW, but combined with the 1 BR, it's a welcome change.

Still, $900 bucks...not bad. You basically will recycle that money instead of spending extra, at least that's how I look at it.

And you're still alive? :lmao:

We had taco bell growing up vs grocery store taco shells and seasoning package. I thought taco bell was terrific. Then, as an adult, I tried a local place, with immigrant cooks from Mexico, and realized I what I had been missing. Even my dds, who still only order chicken and burgers, since think Taco Bell is disgusting.

I guess I'm one of the few who likes Taco Bell, and I grew up in New Mexico and love Mexican food. I don't get it all the time, but I get tired of burgers and fries. the nice thing about our Taco Bell is it's also paired with a KFC. So if you go in wanting a taco, but then start craving some fried chicken, then you can switch. Mmmmmm

Try not to work too hard. If I could only pick one resort at WDW to return, it would be the Contemporary or Bay Lake Tower (BLT) on DVC. I loved the theming and modern features. But, it wasn't built when we bought DVC at Boardwalk, which was the reason we made the purchase. I like being able to walk to 2 theme parks, all the normal walking dining options of Boardwalk, Yacht & Beach Club, and Swan & Dolphin, and Epcot with APs. I like the clown mouth water slide, quiet pool, community room, Bellevue Lounge, and tennis courts. I don't ever care to visit the New Jersey Boardwalk area, but enjoy the vibe at WDW's version.

If I could pick only one resort at WDW to return to, and could only stay at that one, it would be Port Orleans French Quarter....love that place, though I wish it was within walking distance to a park or two. For me, I love how the POFQ is small and compact. I also love the theming to it. I haven't done a lot of research on the Boardwalk, but I love the look of the place. Is the Boardwalk a DVC resort only, or can I book a room there as a regular guest?

Howdy all...
Have been missing for a couple of weeks dealing the quarter-end processes at work and then another week for the first bit of time off I've had all year. We even traveled some by heading down to the coast. It was very strange to see such reduced crowd levels in mid July. We also didn't go out much as you might imagine. Mostly spending time on the beach trying to keep a respectable distance from what other folks had ventured out. While we enjoyed the break, it would'a been better if I could have gone a bit farther afield and gotten into a few more things. Can't have everything ya' know but then again, I wasn't working either so we'll categorize that one as an all around win.

Welcome back home!

And just when everything looks good, we get another kick in the @$$ from our Socialist Governor. He made a statement, and then changed a bit in writing, but "recommended" 14 day quarentine if you leave the state on vacation, but only certain states. And wouldn't you know, those are only Red states. Feel free to visit states where there were looting and riots, because the virus didn't spread there.

Now, I don't care. I'm retiring from one job and have plenty of sick days at the other. So, I see right thru this political divide. But, others are so afraid that "recommended" means it's the law. In the drama from the oldest daughter, she just started a new full time job. Is her new employer willing to give her a week vacation? Yes. Three weeks off? We'll find out today. Then, there is our youngest who starts early college program, during the 14 day quarentine, if he doesn't change it to online. DW not sure if she wants to go now. We could go and leave both dds here. And, the Governor's edict says that it safe for some family members to quarentine in the house while others live there. Give me a break.

I'm not sure where I go from here, but I didn't sleep last night.

Howdy all...

Good to see you again. Glad you had a nice break.

Norm, you're part of the West Ham family now mate. Sorry for that.

As you should. You were a better fan than I was for a few weeks there, I had them written off.

Never thought West Ham United would be my club. I'll take whoever wants me at this point.

Nobody's perfect, but some of hold others to that standard, and worse yet, some of hold ourselves to that standard.

Still, $900 bucks...not bad. You basically will recycle that money instead of spending extra, at least that's how I look at it.

$900 is great. I'll gladly accept it.

Mmmmmm

Let me clarify. If it weren't for keto diet, then I would still eat Taco Bell. I may not like it as much as other Mexican restaurants, but I'm still fat and like junk food. I think Yum! Foods (Taco Bell, KFC, etc) is KY's biggest business.

Yes, there is Boardwalk Inn and Boardwalk Villas. Most DVC resorts are divided similarly. The main difference is the Inn rooms are like hotels with two beds, maid service and villas like time share/ condo with a bed and sleeper couch. There are other differences in maid service, coffee pots, and resort amenities. Disney withholds some of the villas rooms, and you can book either thru Disney. If you are dvc or renting someone's points, then you rent a villa. At Vero Beach Resort, you can use your points for Inn or Villas room, but not at the other resorts at WDW.

We never stayed at POFQ, but we've traveled over to get beignets, although, that may have been Riverside. It's always great to be at Disney, and while we liked the Value Resorts in the beginning, it's nice not to have to ride a bus to all the parks. Yes, I'm a Disney snob.

Just popped back in because I'm in a snit and figured you all could deal with the grumbling. As Norm pointed out our governor made a new edict which throws my week in a mess. Thursday I have to take SWMBO into see some specialists in the big city. She won't drive there herself but I can't go in so will be spending the better part of the day hanging out in the parking garage. Friday was supposed to be DS's graduation finally but that is most likely going to be cancelled. No job posting or ship date for the USAF yet but he is considering switching to quick ship. That means he would take whatever job comes open if someone can't fill their spot and would have between 24-48 hours to get ready and to the departure point. I can't say that is a bad idea either I just wish he was in better shape. Getting out of KY while he has the chance is probably the best he can hope for. No jobs here. DD's school start date has been pushed back two more weeks so if they start on time she will have been out of school for 5 months. (I don't consider what they do online schooling). Saturday is supposed to be a pig roast fundraiser for SWMBO's work (a non-profit dependent on public donations and such) and that probably won't be happening either so I have no idea what they are going to do with the pig or how they are going to get the funds needed to continue. Rant over.

At least I am still on the green side of the grass and employed. And tomorrow is hump day and you know what that means!

.....

absolutely nothing. :sad2:

Afternoon all from Merry Old England. It's all about the US today on my conference calls.
We never stayed at POFQ, but we've traveled over to get beignets, although, that may have been Riverside
We've never been there, we have made a pledge to rectify that next time we are all there. Maybe Easter 2021. Maybe August. It looks lovely.
In the drama from the oldest daughter, she just started a new full time job. Is her new employer willing to give her a week vacation? Yes. Three weeks off? We'll find out today. Wow. Thats a lot to work through. Over here if you go to a "non-approved" country you have to get permission from your firm to go into Self Isolation for 2 weeks after. So for a 2 week break you are off for a month.
Never thought West Ham United would be my club. I'll take whoever wants me at this point.
You're in mate. You just need to learn the words to Bubbles and then we are ready to take you to a match if you ever make it to London. And just think ,you'll have something to chat about with the Brits in the line for Disney attractions. It happens to me a lot, and then an internal clock in my head starts to count down until they tell me they are a Man U fan. Never fails.
Seems I made some mistakes that came back to bit me in the butt yesterday.
Ah, we all do it sometimes. Learn and move on mate.

The most amazing part of this story is that your wife had nothing to do with the project escalation. Anyway, it all sounds pretty cool. Hope you get some rest.

Taco Bell? Is this some kind of crash diet strategy? Saying that, I've never had it.

Your intestines thank you.

It's certainly one way to lose weight.

Yeah...I have no idea. If I could think of a great solution, I would. We're all just making it up as we go at this point.

WOW! 24 days straight of 12 hour shifts?! Hope you get paid hourly.
No I'm paid a lump sum for each day.
But that's what signed up for. It's the oil field, 12 hour days are the norm.
Before I took this gig back in December, I was in management for a couple years. Oil field management means working 8-12 hour days, plus you are responsible for a 24/7 operation. Could mean a trip to the office at 2pm on a beautiful Saturday afternoon (done that), a "we have a problem phone call" just as you are walking to the bus stop at All Star Music resort (done that), or a Tuesday morning 3am wake up "it just hit the fan" phone call (done that). At least now I punch my 12 hours and switch off until the next shift starts.
For anybody outside this crazy industry, it probably sounds nuts.
For anybody in the industry, the fact that I'm doing shift work from home (and not on an oil rig) is actually pretty decent.

If I could pick only one resort at WDW to return to, and could only stay at that one, it would be Port Orleans French Quarter..
I stayed at PO Riverside but did a carriage ride around French Quarter. It looked really nice, very quiet and I like the smaller size. I would like to stay there one day.

If I could think of a great solution, I would. We're all just making it up as we go at this point.
#Truth!

Hay Y'all...
Hotter than 40 He!!s here, but that's fairly normal for the first Caesar's month. Back to work, but the folks out in Cali still have us working form home so that's not so bad either.

We were supposed to have a couple new appliances delivered this afternoon, but I just got the word that our choices are considered to be special orders, and the manufacturer is focusing on just the best sellers right now considering the prevailing work place precautions and reduced staffing issues. Bottom line, we won't get 'em until the end of September. Maybe...

Might be time to back up and punt on that one.

You know when you wish you hadn't started something?
Pretty much a daily occurrence...

Seems I made some mistakes that came back to bit me in the butt
and there are times when that can get to be pretty much a daily occurrence as well...

Just got'a fix it in the mix and move on.

I'm not sure where I go from here, but I didn't sleep last night.
Rough situation and I certainly got's no good answers.
Sorry to hear about the last minute monkey wrench, there.

We're currently still scheduled to go down there in late September, but the more I think about it the more I'm leaning toward calling it off and starting over next year.

Just popped back in because I'm in a snit and figured you all could deal with the grumbling.
Grumble away; we can take it.
Especially if it does you any good just getting it out.

Now, t'is non my business, but...
The young'en might want to be a bit patient on his posting if he can. A quick ship could well find him in a billet that might be far from his first, second or even last choice.

We're all just making it up as we go at this point.
So, situation normal then.
Just a bit more improvisation then usual required as of late.

Good news. Oldest dd's new employer won't require her to quarentine on the whims of the Governor, unless she actually has symptoms which of course is logical. It would only now impact my younger daughter who has early college orientation. But, I think we could get her tested and results back before orientation. And, I applied for a good paying factory job really close to my house as I saw it on Indeed yesterday. They called me today for a virtual interview Friday morning. Maybe I'm just to fill their old, fat guy interview quota, but it feels good to be wanted.

Notice: If you're the Socialist Government reading this post, we are all staying home indefinitely, currently wearing masks and gloves. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Will your employer require a quarantine? My soon to be former employee is re-opening the campus, but still encouraging everyone to work from home and take classes at home. Not that I think professors are overworked teaching 3 classes, but teaching the same class in person and online would be challenging.

I guess us Americans aren't use to get approval from to travel to another state. I can make it to the adjacent state of Indiana before I could make it to another city in KY.

You never told me I'd have to learn a new song, but I'll do my best. Heck, if you're drunk enough, then I already know the words.

Your intestines thank you.

New slogan: "I made a run for the border, and it made runs thru me."

Yeah...I have no idea. If I could think of a great solution, I would. We're all just making it up as we go at this point.

I can't remember a more stressful vacation. Those words should not go together.

Try to survive the heat. I don't complain as I'll take the heat over the snow anyday.

If Disney had refunded my points, or just refunded the dues, then I would have probably cancelled. And, while that isn't that much, we have flights, which would be credited, but then still out the $ and no vacation. I know that money shouldn't drive decisions, but it certainly influences most.

Glad things are working out with the employers and hope you ARE the old fat guy they are looking for.

No quarantine for me as I don't work with hardly anyone but the farm crew. Campus meetings are all virtual and farm visits I try to keep my distance. Just south of us the high school football team is responsible for 38 new cases of the virus in the county.

Morning fellas, hope all is well in the world of Disdaddery. Interesting developments at work. Time to take a leaf out of Kenny Roger's book.

guess us Americans aren't use to get approval from to travel to another state. I can make it to the adjacent state of Indiana before I could make it to another city in KY.
Neither are we to be fair. We don't need approval, but when we return from a country that doesn't have a reciprocal agreement with us in terms of COVID, the default position is that we have to self isolate for 2 weeks, so if I went to Florida next week for 2 weeks, I wouldn't be able to return to work until 2 weeks after my return. However if I go to Disney Paris, I can go to work the very next day.
Yeah...I have no idea. If I could think of a great solution, I would. We're all just making it up as we go at this point.
Sorry about the trip mate, I saw on FB.
hope you ARE the old fat guy they are looking for.
Yep, good luck Norm
You never told me I'd have to learn a new song, but I'll do my best. Heck, if you're drunk enough, then I already know the words.
It's like about 8 lines, buddy.
Unfortunately, as a latecomer to the party, you will never hear this in the old ground at night. Boleyn was about half the size of the new one and the stands would actually shake if we really got going. Thinking about it still gives me goosebumps.

It will also help you with your cockney accent.
Afternoon gents! As referenced earlier, long week in advance of 12 days off coming up. Be safe all and have a good day!
Hang in there my friend. There's light at the end of the tunnel.
Just popped back in because I'm in a snit and figured you all could deal with the grumbling
Vent away, buddy. That's why we are here. Well, that and nob gags.

Have a good day boys, as it's.....
512348
and in 20 minutes, we are officially in the back half of the week.

Morning, Gents! Well, yesterday was one of those day where I was in snit for most of it. Oh I went in in a good mood, what set me off was Bill, the stockroom guy I work work with. Still no word from the law firm, but the email I got from the partner indicated that today was the deadline for them to make a decision. So at some point today I'll either really happy, or really sad. Either way I have a job, so I'm happy to be working. Well, gents, have a good day and we'll chat later.

Only red states, how interesting. I hate that there are some people that have politicized this. If we all had just stayed home, except for healthcare workers and grocery store workers, and we all wore masks, this thing would have been done in 2 months.

Nobody's perfect, but some of hold others to that standard, and worse yet, some of hold ourselves to that standard.

Nope, no one is, but I try to be, and can take screw ups on my part pretty hard. Oh well, live and learn

$900 is great. I'll gladly accept it.

:thumbsup2

Let me clarify. If it weren't for keto diet, then I would still eat Taco Bell. I may not like it as much as other Mexican restaurants, but I'm still fat and like junk food. I think Yum! Foods (Taco Bell, KFC, etc) is KY's biggest business.

Ah! Now I get it. Yeah, I'm fat, too, and like my junk food. I've been known to weasel out of lunch at the house if I know my errands will take me by a Wendy's or Taco Bell/KFC.

I'd love to stay at the Boardwalk Inn at some point, but it might be out of my price range.

Hope you brought a good book, and plenty of games on your smartphone.

Rant over.

Complain away, my friend, complain away. Sorry about your son doesn't have a ship date yet. Question: When I went in back way back in the late 80's, we had a ship date when I signed the contract. Is that not how it's done today, or this because of the COVID-19 thing?

At least I am still on the green side of the grass and employed. And tomorrow is hump day and you know what that means!

.....

absolutely nothing. :sad2:

Yeah, we're on the downhill slide to the weekend. 😁😆

Afternoon all from Merry Old England. It's all about the US today on my conference calls.

I love conference call. 🙄😆

We've never been there, we have made a pledge to rectify that next time we are all there. Maybe Easter 2021. Maybe August. It looks lovely.

I love this resort. It's the only resort I've stayed at, actually. Hmm. Love it.

Your intestines thank you.

Great way to clean things out! 😆

Ah, gotcha. Man, getting called at all times of the day, even on vacation, is not cool.

I stayed at PO Riverside but did a carriage ride around French Quarter. It looked really nice, very quiet and I like the smaller size. I would like to stay there one day.

It's the size and themeing I like most, well...mostly the size. I like being able to walk to the food court in 5 minutes, 10 tops if I walk slow enough.

Hay Y'all...
Hotter than 40 He!!s here, but that's fairly normal for the first Caesar's month. Back to work, but the folks out in Cali still have us working form home so that's not so bad either.

It's getting hot here, upper 80's really, but it's the humidity that gets to me.

Maybe...

That's us. We ordered four new appliances, and got two, the fridge and over the range microwave. The dishwasher never showed up...as in, the truck never made it to the warehouse and the stove was on back order. We're supposed to be getting both of those at the end of the month. Mhmm We'll see about that.

and there are times when that can get to be pretty much a daily occurrence as well...

Just got'a fix it in the mix and move on.

Exactly.

:thumbsup2 That's good that her employer won't require her to quarantine, though I can see where some employers would want to err on the side of caution.

Notice: If you're the Socialist Government reading this post, we are all staying home indefinitely, currently wearing masks and gloves. Nothing to see here. Move along.

😄

I guess us Americans aren't use to get approval from to travel to another state. I can make it to the adjacent state of Indiana before I could make it to another city in KY.

No we're not. And I think a lot of people, who are complaining about those complaining about 🤪needing permission to travel, don't understand that. They think, it's for the greater good. That may be true, but we're still not use to getting permission to travel, and at some point, we're going to get annoyed by it.

You never told me I'd have to learn a new song, but I'll do my best. Heck, if you're drunk enough, then I already know the words.

🤣

Made it to Wednesday, and the vacation eating has started early.

Afternoon gents! As referenced earlier, long week in advance of 12 days off coming up. Be safe all and have a good day!

Same to you.

On the next chapter of my job, let's hope so.

That's a big spike in cases for such a small area. Florida got caught up in an over reporting snafu and there are individual stories & videos about over counting or being contacted by the Health Dept for being positive when they weren't tested. If we believe them. I do wonder that with this rush to manufacture tests, was their an unintentional glitch in their process that reveals too many false positives? If 38 players tested positive, 1 other family member in each was infected (76), they went to work or Walmart, etc then wouldn't your whole county be infected by the end of the week?

Neither are we to be fair. We don't need approval, but when we return from a country that doesn't have a reciprocal agreement with us in terms of COVID, the default position is that we have to self isolate for 2 weeks, so if I went to Florida next week for 2 weeks, I wouldn't be able to return to work until 2 weeks after my return. However if I go to Disney Paris, I can go to work the very next day.

And I hope that government is actually trying, but they just can't account for every situation. Since Disney is doing health screens everyday and the airline has some process, I would think that would change considerations.

I'll try to be ready before the Man United game today. A Kentucky cockney accent sounds terrifying.

The waiting is the worst. Let us know.

Only red states, how interesting. I hate that there are some people that have politicized this. If we all had just stayed home, except for healthcare workers and grocery store workers, and we all wore masks, this thing would have been done in 2 months.

That inconsistency and lack of coherent plan has bothered me from the beginning.
Close churches and small businesses, but not large corporate stores.
Lay off medical workers during a pandemic due to a lack of "elective" procedures.
Protesting rascism can't spread the virus, but protesting lockdowns can.
Don't wear a mask. Wear a mask. Bandannas work. Bandannas don't work. Children under 2, wait 3, wait 5 don't wear masks because they don't spread a virus.
Adults wear masks while walking but not sitting in a restaurant.

It may have just been easier to admit it's an unknown virus, we don't know what to do, and we are guessing everyday.

I'd love to stay at the Boardwalk Inn at some point, but it might be out of my price range.

There's always renting dvc points. There are quite a few dads here, or on FB page, who will rent to other dads and give a good price. I only rented once to Carl. I wouldn't rent or use one of the broker's sites, but the majority of the guys here have enough integrity not to you over.

:thumbsup2 That's good that her employer won't require her to quarantine, though I can see where some employers would want to err on the side of caution.

No we're not. And I think a lot of people, who are complaining about those complaining about 🤪needing permission to travel, don't understand that. They think, it's for the greater good. That may be true, but we're still not use to getting permission to travel, and at some point, we're going to get annoyed by it.

And if her employer needed her to quarentine, then she would do it. I didn't want her to get fired from a new job right away. We are still individuals, and some laws/ orders decreed for everyone just don't make sense, especially when one group is then given an exemption.
