DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning All,

Overcast day here as well and a bit on the cooler side compared to the last few weeks. Need to pick up some supplies for the vacation before we leave tomorrow, go for a run and do the DisDad Fantasy Baseball Pool draft later tonight. Should be a stress free day.

Have a good Saturday All!

Asking for a friend, did the salesman have white shoes and belt?

LOL, actually it was a friend. No white shoes but I'm not sure about the belt. I tend to not stare at that area....on a man. ;)

Hey guys. I've been busy working the last few days and missed a few pages.
Hope all are doing well.

Looks like I will be getting some time off work next week since my co-worker called my manager yesterday to let him know he was ready to come back to work (after he had a death in his immediate family a few weeks ago). Turns out that not only did he have to deal with the death, but he tested positive for COVID and ended up in hospital with a collapsed lung (as a point of interest, we all work remotely and he lives in Texas). The guy is only in his late 30s and otherwise healthy as far as I know. I just can't imagine having to go through the difficult time he's had the past few weeks.

Anyway, when I get some time off next week, I would like to do some kind of staycation for a couple days, but not sure what. Maybe rent a cottage somewhere but depends on availability on short notice. I wasn't planning anything since I had no idea when I would be getting time off.

Happy Saturday morning. Went to my friend's new brew bar/ restaurant last night and tried two new beers on tap. I was ripped. I told him they had a great kick to them. As their kitchen wasn't open yet, they had a food truck from a Greek restaurant. The truck employees must have flown over from Greece yesterday, because I couldn't understand a word. Or, maybe it was the beer. If it was a gyro, it was the best I ever had.

Sore loser? Telling the truth? Who knows, but either way the court's going to make its decision.

And as soon as the order was signed, the Governor filed an immediate appeal to the KY Supreme Court who issued a TRO until a final hearing. Yet, we don't have money for unemployment claims or pensions. Hmmm....

I'd love to visit the World when it's slow. Imagine the short lines at all the rides? An unobstructed view of the castle for picture taking? Man, that would be awesome!

Best ever trio was our honeymoon, the week after Labor Day. Other than the Brazillion groups, it was low crowd levels. Hopefully, we get an opportunity to try again in September in 2021 if COVID madness is gone.

Nah, no contracts signed, just a regular gig that I can drop at any time. I have started the process of on boarding, filling out the application, a mere formality as the job is already mine, so in a way, yes, I have accepted it. By filling out the form, the HR department can start their process of bringing me on board. If the other place offers me something I can't refuse, then I'll just let my current employer know that I have accepted another offer and leave. At this point I've dropped the whole loyalty thing. I'm looking out for me....though I won't screw them. I'll give notice. I'm not a jerk, after all.

Yeah, 2 weeks notice is the right way to go out. I've asked my former boss (now one step up) for a letter of recommendation. He hasn't sent it yet. I've finished the last signed project, but I haven't sent it yet. I haven't decided yet how to play this one out.

New to us, going to pick it up when we get back next week.

CRV is a good vehicle. Good pick. Youngest dd will have her license in January, and I'm kinda looking for another vehicle, but not in any hurry.

so Dw and I have a kid free weekend.
I'd say congrats, but... since you're married, it probably means just more chores.

:rolleyes1

Yikes. Adding insult to injury there.

Then who cares if they don't speak English. Taste rules!

Dw and I went for a drive through the backroads then stopped for a meal, it was nice not having to answer "are we ther yet"

Hopefully you can find a place with a vacancy.

Morning all. 007 must be sleeping off a doozy as his West Ham United remain in the top flight. I'm taking full credit for their success as I watched some of the matches since the re-start and cheered them to victory. Single hand count to our trip to WDW.

Not me. Beer and great food for the win.

Everytime the tire rolls we get that much closer.

Afternoon, Gents, welcome from a very hot and humid Cape Cod. Having a pretty good weekend so far. Spend most of yesterday cleaning and organizing my garage. Ok, didn't clean and organize ALL of it, but I get part of it done. Once the guys came to take away our old fridge, I kind of felt the need to clean and organize. I cleaned an area around some shelves and moved stuff to the basement or shed that really didn't need to be there, which opened up a lot of space. The garage hasn't been touched in a while, so it'll be a long term project. I also put together my new lawnmower. Outside that? Been a lazy kind of weekend. Well, have a good rest of the weekend, gents.

That's awesome! And good move to have a food truck on hand. Were the beers local?

Kind of thought that's the way it was going to go. It's sad that there's no money for unemployment or pension.

That's cool. The last time I was down there they use to have slow times. Now? It's busy all year around, with this year being the exception, of course.

Yeah, 2 weeks notice is the right way to go out. I've asked my former boss (now one step up) for a letter of recommendation. He hasn't sent it yet. I've finished the last signed project, but I haven't sent it yet. I haven't decided yet how to play this one out.

Remind me, you're retiring, yes? If that's the case, is this a general letter of recommendation, or are you vying for a job somewhere else? My initial gut reaction says to hold off on sending the project until you get the letter of recommendation.

And, we moved back to the Boardwalk at WDW in a 1 BR. Poly is nice, but Boardwalk and BLT are still my favorites. DW saw a 1 BR surfing today, so we moved back over. I get to play tennis everyday with dd as well. I didn't change any park days, as it's almost too overwhelming to navigate Disney's systems.

Yes, local. It's our first, local beer brewery. Our town is only around 55,000 people, and one of the biggest employers has been a liquor distillery. I think they've had a hand in keeping competitors away over the years. I'm not into all that bitter hoppy beer connoisseur.

Yes, retiring, and a future general letter of recommendation.

Morning, Gents! Well, another Monday, and that means another work week is upon us. For me, it means the lead up to the end of the month, and that means a ton of shipping happening at work, with two new guys in the warehouse, so I'll be out in the warehouse a lot this week. This is going to be an excruciatingly tough week. I just don't feel it anymore. Oh I'll work, and work hard, I just don't feel it. Oh well, enough of my complaining, been doing it a lot lately. Otherwise, things are going well. My DW got me two new Star Wars shirts this weekend with the baby Yoda character on it....can't wait to wear it to work. Well, gents, gotta run. Have a good day and I'll chat when I can.

I've always wanted to stay at the Boardwalk Inn...that just looks like a great place to stay.

We have a few local micro brewery's around here, and I'm not all up on their beer either. For me, then tend to be bitter(?), hoppy, maybe? I prefer something smooth, like Heineken. I like Heineken. I also like Yuengling.

Yes, retiring, and a future general letter of recommendation.

That's smart to get a general letter of recommendation. Hope he comes through with it.

Not a bad day. Ran 4K with DD. Watched race #1 from Iowa (Indy race) and now I'm at work on a nice slow day. Planning to try Taco Bell today for the first time ever.
Guess I'll find out if the stories of aftermath are true.

Taco Bell after a run? Nice way to do it.

Planning to try Taco Bell today for the first time ever.
I’ve only had it once, in Orlando. I thought it was Ok but wouldn’t go out of my way for it.
There was a franchise that opened here in St. John’s about 15 or 20 years ago but it closed after a few years. It never caught on. I never tried it so I can’t say if it was up to the standard of culinary excellence at other Taco Bells or not.

. I just don't feel it anymore. Oh I'll work, and work hard, I just don't feel it.
I know the feeling.
I’m now starting day #24 straight of 12 hour shifts. Last month when I was on week 7 without work, all I was hoping for was to get a few days pay to get by.
My enthusiasm is getting lower by the day. Looking forward to a break this week.
But I don’t want to complain. Many in my industry, and others, have no job to go back to.
I’m trying to count my blessings while I can.

Happy Monday morning. In today's Disney update, I read online where someone had their park hopper to one ticket per day difference refunded. So, I thought why not do the same since I won't be using APs. After 6 phone calls, re-routing, dodging, saying it's not possible, and finally a long hold, it was DW who finally reached the right person who took care of it in 5 minutes. The $900 we got refunded will just be spent in food and drink at WDW, but combined with the 1 BR, it's a welcome change.

Well... I waited 40 years (First Taco Bell in Canada 1979) to try it and... I'll wait another 40 years to try it again.
Definite "meh" from me.

And you're still alive? :lmao:

We had taco bell growing up vs grocery store taco shells and seasoning package. I thought taco bell was terrific. Then, as an adult, I tried a local place, with immigrant cooks from Mexico, and realized I what I had been missing. Even my dds, who still only order chicken and burgers, since think Taco Bell is disgusting.

Try not to work too hard. If I could only pick one resort at WDW to return, it would be the Contemporary or Bay Lake Tower (BLT) on DVC. I loved the theming and modern features. But, it wasn't built when we bought DVC at Boardwalk, which was the reason we made the purchase. I like being able to walk to 2 theme parks, all the normal walking dining options of Boardwalk, Yacht & Beach Club, and Swan & Dolphin, and Epcot with APs. I like the clown mouth water slide, quiet pool, community room, Bellevue Lounge, and tennis courts. I don't ever care to visit the New Jersey Boardwalk area, but enjoy the vibe at WDW's version.

Don't work too hard either. There is lots of fear mongering here to re-close stores with the virus. It is a scary and unknown time.

Howdy all...
Have been missing for a couple of weeks dealing the quarter-end processes at work and then another week for the first bit of time off I've had all year. We even traveled some by heading down to the coast. It was very strange to see such reduced crowd levels in mid July. We also didn't go out much as you might imagine. Mostly spending time on the beach trying to keep a respectable distance from what other folks had ventured out. While we enjoyed the break, it would'a been better if I could have gone a bit farther afield and gotten into a few more things. Can't have everything ya' know but then again, I wasn't working either so we'll categorize that one as an all around win.

Consider yourself lucky if it just resulted in a "meh". Could have been so much worse.

Welcome back, Rob! Glad you were able to get some time off and out of the house.

Afternoon guys! Looks like an uneventful weekend around here. Nice to get some live baseball on tv last night. Long day today and long week to get several things work related wrapped up before I head out on vacation mid next week. Stay safe!
