DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning all from a chilly and overcast Londinium.
Overcast day with storms on tap in Appalachia.

I forgot to mention my oldest finished her last exam (online) Thursday so that’s second year done.
She was supposed to start her summer research assistant job May 1st at the university, but for now it looks like they are going to have her do some work from home online. As long as they pay her, she’ll take what she can get. Many others aren’t so lucky.

Congrats to all who are finishing their studies. This has been an interesting year and may they never have one this interesting again.

Good your oldest got and accepted the RA position. Literature reviews are one of my least favorite things to do but they are important and she will have it pretty easy working from home online. Back in my day, I had to hike to the library and Xerox journal articles and send out postcards for reprints to the authors. Reviews consisted of tracking down sources from liter cited in all the papers and following up on any of those that seemed relevant until the trail went cold.

It’s my father’s birthday today. What do you get a 74 year old who doesn’t want much and the shops are closed anyway? Well....
Happy Birthday to your Dad! Hope he enjoyed the tea buns.

Morning folks.

Lounges.
I really don't do them much, but do like Nomad. Cool vibe.

As far as QS... Too many to chose from, but will put 8 Spoons right at the top. I could inhale that shrimp mac n cheese all day.

Scratch made Cornish pasties worked out pretty well last night. The Kids inhaled them, so I'll take that as a win.
Nice job.
Ah that's a shame mate, I know she's fancied you ages.
I'll let her down gently for you. So it isn't awkward.

Getting a top up from the gov? My youngest DD is making more money from the government than she would with her summer job.
And now that they've announced aid for post secondary students, there's even more relief available.
We’ve just gone a week here without a positive case as well. But nothing announced on relaxing restrictions yet. I think they are waiting until they are 14 days past Easter weekend, which is Monday. But I expect something will be announced soon since NB and SK have already blinked.
::yes::
We've been talking about it too. Not sure when they'll pull the trigger, though.

Easy. Chocolate. My dad's was a couple weeks ago and he inhales chocolate.
Dan and his scones inspired me. My Dad likes a cup of tea, so I thought making him some tea buns would be a nice treat for his birthday.
I suspect what we call tea buns are basically scones. And similar to southern biscuits.
Made for a nice morning anyway.

Nice job!
Inspired by Jeff, my baking from yesterday. First time making cinnamon rolls.
How were they?

DS didn't qualify for the first bit of assistance, as a Pizza Hut employee he's essential I guess. This new package will help him though because finding more work this summer will be very difficult.

Do you like sugar? If you do, they are fantastic.

Morning chaps, another Sunny one here today. Ribs are just out of the fridge and warming up, so I'll strike Mark and Doc off the invite list. Introduced the kids to the Goonies last night, and after me and Lady K watched the Breakfast Club (oh, Ally Sheedy, how I loved ya) its turned into a bit of 80s fest round here. Maybe I'll grow a mullet. Wanna buy a tiger?
Thought the picks were real good for where they were picking. The TE is a beast catching the ball and route running at ND. He has some work to do blocking but their offense doesn’t rely on TE to block much. The CB Johnson could be a steel. He was one of the top rated but had shoulder surgery recently which is why he dropped as many say he is first round talent

Me too, I thought they did well. It does make me laugh how the armchair GMs all come out of the woodwork, saying "I would have done this" over this weekend. My general response is "Well, work hard at your job, earn about 6 Billion Dollars, buy a team and sign whoever you damn well please".

That's the bad boys. Nice one. And happy Birthday to TNG Snr.
First time making cinnamon rolls.
Nice one! Cinnamon rolls warm out of the oven are the food of the gods.

Never been in 8 spoons. I may have to try that one.

Have a lovely Sunday chaps.

Morning folks.
All the baking inspired me as well, yesterday.
Made this.

Pound cake with peach compote. (A Disney recipe actually.)

So I can come?
Introduced the kids to the Goonies last night,
A movie I have yet to watch. Not sure why.

Ah... yes.
Maybe I'll grow a mullet. Wanna buy a tiger?
Can't Carole Baskin invited me for dinner.

Morning chaps. Overcast in the old East End today. I hope this improves, we are having a social distancing party with next door on Thursday, we are lifting up one of the fence panels and having Pizza and wine.
The cheese curds are on their way for Canada EPCOT challenge.

Here you go Dan. You're welcome.

Here is an accurate depiction of my current state. Although I did prefer her in her "Basket Case" mode.

Cheers for that mate, nice start to the day.

That's actually the poster that was on my wall for about 3 years when I was a teenager. Maybe that's why I support all the Chicago teams, I thought I might bump into Ms Sheedy at the game, and, you know, take it from there.
Sweet!
Having a bit of trouble finding a flight...
In your job, I'm imagining typing that phrase set off a couple of alarms. :scared1:
Actually she mentioned ribs too. And. Thighs... legs... arms (pretty sure that’s wings).
She did mention she was having someone for dinner with the Tigers.
Enjoy my friend, I'm sure its fine. On a completely separate note where do you leave your keys for the Harley? Just in case its not needed anymore for some unknown reason.....

Happy Monday!

My Alaska cruise is officially kaput. Planning out a re-configured flight/driving trip, but still wondering if it's just a theoretical exercise.

And it's Friday. UK announced 1700 layoffs yesterday, 1500 from medical. So, only 200 from campus dining, transportation, etc services. Since my university doesn't have medical, hopefully, I will survive Wednesday's call.

One day at a time. Hope it works out for you, Norm.

I warned her. 4 sleeping pills to "relax" for the flight was too much.

I like that one. Or:

Ny-Quil. The secret to a peaceful flight.

No positive cases is a great sign. We had started to flatten the curve and then had a sudden spike yesterday--worst day yet. I think it might have been a backlog of test data finally coming through.

Glad she's able to still work. My son was looking to get his first job this summer but I don't see that happening in the current environment.

First time making cinnamon rolls.

Looks good!

Hey, I never said I wouldn't eat them. Just that I don't order them a lot.

Nice! Looks great.

Morning, folks.
Back at work this morning. It's actually fairly rare that I start a work week on a Monday.
Which is my way of saying any day can suck, not just Mondays.

So let's see... since I've started running, I've definitely seen an improvement on my stamina.
Also, since my last run about 4 days ago now, I've still got sore Achilles, I've tweaked my back and scared the heck out of myself by hurting my knee and waking up the next morning to a numb/tingling lower leg. That only happened the one morning, but the knee is still a bit tender. I'll try again today and if there's a repeat, I'm calling it quits, at least for a while.

Getting old really bites. Just saying.

In your job, I'm imagining typing that phrase set off a couple of alarms. :scared1:
Actually... we hunt for missing aircraft a lot. 99.999% of them are because someone forgot to tell us they're safe, but... still have to go looking.

It'll be at Carole's. She told me to bring it as well as as much cash as I could bring for an investment opportunity. She said "ingestion" instead of investment, but I'm sure that's what she meant.

Was pretty sure that was going to happen. So did you cut it before putting the rest of the payment down?

Sorry to hear that. But yes, it could be from more testing.

Well, thanks for the encouragement!

That's...not great. But I understand. My foot can't seem to take the pounding, either.

I feel like 99% of my problems at work come down to poor communication as well.

Was pretty sure that was going to happen. So did you cut it before putting the rest of the payment down?

Yes. The final payment was due yesterday. If I made it and then canceled the cruise, I'd have over 6 grand tied up in future cruise credit. But the fine print also says I can't use that credit toward the deposit on the next cruise. So that's just too much money to have strings attached.

yeah... starting to think this might not work out. Shame.

Wait... What????? You couldn't use the FCC for the next cruise???

Top O the Mornin Dads! A London type of grey and rainy weekend here which really sucked. Been enjoying the Last Dance about the Bulls & Michael Jordan and really enjoying it as it was a great time in Chicago, brings back lots of great memories.

O.K. WDW rankings continues today. Name the top 3 themed coasters at DaWorld.

Hope you feel better and maybe just walking to reduce the pounding on the body

Have a good week guys and stay safe

My Alaska cruise is officially kaput. Planning out a re-configured flight/driving trip, but still wondering if it's just a theoretical exercise.
Ah, that's a shame bud. I can't work out, can you use your deposit against another one in the future?

3 Things Every Man Thinks He Can Do Better Than Anyone Else:

1. Drive a car.
2. Romance a woman.
3. Evaluate draft talent.
I try and stop myself engaging with people who have played Madden for about 15 mins on why we haven't got the next Patrick Mahomes and how rosters work. it often doesn't work, and I have to bite.
Me in several conference calls this week.

If you are looking to carry on, I would suggest as the stores open getting someone to look at your gait, and fitting you with some proper running shoes.

Wait... What????? You couldn't use the FCC for the next cruise???

You can, but you can't use it to pay the initial deposit when you book. This seems ridiculous to me. I guess it's their way of making sure they get new money out of you, I dunno.

WDW rankings continues today. Name the top 3 themed coasters at DaWorld.

So, I can read this 2 different ways. If I'm ranking by best coaster that happens to have a theme, it's:

1. Expedition Everest
2. Rock 'n Roller Coaster
3. Big Thunder Mountain RR

If I'm ranking how well the theming is done on the roller coaster, it's:

1. Expedition Everest
2. Big Thunder Mountain RR
3. 7 Dwarfs Mine Train
