DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Afternoon Dads! Alright top 3 WDW list for today is top 3 Bars / Lounges, in the parks only, excluding Dawa Bar in AK.

For those that do not partake in the beverages (and even for those that do if you want to) of these locations your top 3 Counter Service eating spots.

1. Nomad Lounge - especially at a table inside (great air conditioning) - excellent drinks, great tapas/appetizers. My kids even love this place - partially due to the fact that they can also get "fancy" drinks.

2. Rose and Crown - Carl! Half and Half - Bumblebees - Snakebites.....oh and Scotch EGGS!!

3. Brown Derby Lounge/Patio - Excellent Sliders - Great Views - Can get the Cobb Salad without a reservation....good bloody mary's.

Top 3 Counter Service:

1. Tangerine Cafe' - love the Lamb and Chicken Platter!

2. Yorkshire County Fish - Salt and Vinegar and a nice piece of fish for a counter service place.

3. Yak and Yeti - Side of Fried Rice for like $5 is a great value and pretty darn tasty.

Ol' Walt looks like he's reaching out for a cheeky feel there, skipper.
And who could blame him?

Not a fan, Walt can have her.

As for top bars, other than the Rose N Crown and after DDCC, Dawa I haven't frequented many WDW bars. More of a kiosk and go drinker at the World.

Top 3 counter service

  1. Flametree
  2. Pecos Bills
  3. Baseline Tap House

So we've gone about a week without any new covid-19 cases here so today they announced the recovery plan. While we are still in phase 1 there have been some restrictions lifted. Including the ability to pick one other household ( you can't change, have to stay for the duration) to socialize with. I've started sending this note around to friends and family.

Not much of a drinker here, other than occasionally ordering a beer with dinner. For counter-service places:

1. Flame Tree BBQ

(fairly large gap)

2. Earl of Sandwich, maybe?

3. Pineapple Lanai at the Poly.

:lmao: :rotfl:

Seems a little weird. I guess now the people who thought they were your best friends will see the truth.

And it's Friday. UK announced 1700 layoffs yesterday, 1500 from medical. So, only 200 from campus dining, transportation, etc services. Since my university doesn't have medical, hopefully, I will survive Wednesday's call. KY is now #2 in the nation for % unemployment, having been one of the first states to lock down, middle of the road in cases and deaths, but not planning to re-open to July. Those numbers don't make any sense.

Hey gents, been busy in here the last couple days.

I just started a week off (at least, we'll see how the price of oil goes, I might get a lot more time off).
What a crazy week.
Cuts in my industry are getting deeper. I have had several co-worker friends lose their jobs in the last 2 weeks. I am still surviving. I don't know for how long. My immediate manager has said he *thinks* I will be OK, but decisions are being made well above his pay grade and anything can happen.
I'm just taking it day by day and trying to keep a positive outlook.

Hang in there. It's a crazy time.

Right. That's it. I'm calling it. Work week over. Everyone out.
Last one standing in the Brown Derby Lounge for Pomegranate Whiskey Sours gets to take Belle home. Let me tell ya though. She's a bit freaky. We got caught by Security doing it on the Tower of Terror. The head of security told us that was wrong on so many levels.

Have a great weekend chaps.

We do have an ADR at Brown Derby (Fantasmic package) in July.

For the record on WDW resorts
  1. BWV - Location, location, location. Also love being on the lake and associated views, plus the vibe and atmosphere of the Boardwalk itself and the pool. Also, location location location
  2. AKL - Home resort - Theming and the Savannah can't be beat. Also like the access to both Kidani and Jambo house restaurants and pools especially on summer stays to have a couple of difference main pools. Not many like that it so far from most of DaWorld but thats also a nice "escape" from the parks.
  3. WL - Themeing & location. Really sorry our June trip is gonna be in the tank as we were gonna stay there for a few nights before our cruise

Again, we are there on BWV. My three favorite QS:

(1) Sleepy Hollow - Chicken n Waffles
(2) Columbia Harbour House - fish n chips
(3) Boulangerie (France) - everything and nearby grey goose slush

Guess Tiffins doesn't count.

Favorite QS depends on whether I'm trying to stay keto or saying to heck with it.

If not staying with it, does Karamel Kuche count as a QS? :lmao:
One of my favorite sweets is caramel apples and ooooh man, when I'm not worried about keto, one of the first places I go in EPCOT.

Okay, now to more realistic:

Columbia Harbor House. Not many keto options, but for a QS, I think they do pretty good and have several options.

Love the brisket poutine at Refreshment port. A couple times I've been able to get them to do it keto...brisket and cheese curds, no fries. YUM! YUM! YUM! If not, the brisket poutine is still really good. I guess that's more CS vs. QS.

I like Cosmic Ray's if I'm in the mood for a burger or hotdog. I like the fixin's bar.

ABC commisary.

One I despise...casey's corner. Always way too crowded and not even that good. Avoid that if at all possible. That's why when my niece wanted to go there for MNSSHP last year, I'm sure all of you heard me groan.

Need your help guys. They're having a contest at work to see who can come up with the best caption for this picture.

Which do you like best?

I told her she shouldn't sleep in the overhead compartment on someone elses' luggage.

No, this is not the splash mountain ride and you're not supposed to sleep on it
anyway.

I warned her. 4 sleeping pills to "relax" for the flight was too much.

The doctor said the travel medicine would help her to relax. Ya think?

No, I'm not going to carry you, ride on the suitcase.

Stroller was in checked in luggage. Big mistake.

Parenting 101. Go ahead, sleep there. If you fall, not my fault.

Thanks,

Agreed,. AK is the worst park to be in noon till 3.

I hope things work out ok for you Norm. Thinking of you during this tough time

Never had a chance to for anything stronger than Beverly as I always had the kids with me, so as far as CS...

Sunshine Seasons - great selection, value, and taste

Kringla Bakeri - not the healthiest but when I want to indulge

Columbia Harbor House - always reliable and something for the whole family

One of these two.

Morning all from a chilly and overcast Londinium.
Have some Rump steak burgers all freshly made in the fridge, hopefully the weather will clear so I can fire up some coals.
Scratch made Cornish pasties worked out pretty well last night. The Kids inhaled them, so I'll take that as a win.

@budamacdvcr what did you think of our draft picks? I thought they did well. And signing a Bears fan out of Chicago that played for ND? If they stuck a deep dish pizza on his helmet he couldn't have more potential to be a favourite with the Chicago faithful.

4 sleeping pills to "relax" for the flight was too much.
Yeah, that one.

hopefully, I will survive Wednesday's call.
Good luck buddy, hope it all works out.

Not a fan, Walt can have her.
Ah that's a shame mate, I know she's fancied you ages.
I'll let her down gently for you. So it isn't awkward.

Top 3 CS:

Tangerine (Mixed Platter)
Flame tree (The BBQ is OK, but shagging and Pizza byelaw applies)
Columbia Harbor House (Although it's spelt wrong)

Top 3 in Park Lounges:

Cava (Duh)
Nomad (We now do this every year as an evening out)
Tutto Gusto (I like sitting outside in the square)

Have a great Saturday. I think. Is it Saturday? Who knows anymore.....

DS just finished his last exam so university year one is complete and he plans to celebrate by working all weekend at Pizza Hut. Living on the edge in these crazy times.
Congrats to him for finishing his first wacky year.

I forgot to mention my oldest finished her last exam (online) Thursday so that’s second year done.
She was supposed to start her summer research assistant job May 1st at the university, but for now it looks like they are going to have her do some work from home online. As long as they pay her, she’ll take what she can get. Many others aren’t so lucky.

So we've gone about a week without any new covid-19 cases here so today they announced the recovery plan.
We’ve just gone a week here without a positive case as well. But nothing announced on relaxing restrictions yet. I think they are waiting until they are 14 days past Easter weekend, which is Monday. But I expect something will be announced soon since NB and SK have already blinked.

Since my university doesn't have medical, hopefully, I will survive Wednesday's call.
Best of luck to you, and us all.

Stroller was in checked in luggage. Big mistake.
I like this one.
But they’re all pretty good.
Not sure if we’re helping much.

Lounge discussion. Like a few of you, I really don’t go to many lounges with the family in tow. I usually end up getting something with a meal (either QS or TS). I remember enjoying the mandarin hard lemonade at Flame Tree. Which brings me to...

Top 3 counter service:

1. Flame Tree
2. Boulangerie in France (mostly for pastries but good sandwiches too)
3. Sleepy Hollow (for any of the waffle sandwiches)

It’s my father’s birthday today. What do you get a 74 year old who doesn’t want much and the shops are closed anyway? Well....

Scones with Clotted Cream and Jam
Dan and his scones inspired me. My Dad likes a cup of tea, so I thought making him some tea buns would be a nice treat for his birthday.
I suspect what we call tea buns are basically scones. And similar to southern biscuits.
Made for a nice morning anyway.

Top O the Mornin Dads! I have a zoom hangout with some friends, the soccer parents, tonight so if I get on the Dads one tonight probably gonna be late. Will take a pause over the weekend on WDW top things and will return with some more on Monday. Have a great weekend gents.

For the Record
  1. Rose & Crown
  2. Nomad
  3. Tune In Lounge

Thought the picks were real good for where they were picking. The TE is a beast catching the ball and route running at ND. He has some work to do blocking but their offense doesn’t rely on TE to block much. The CB Johnson could be a steel. He was one of the top rated but had shoulder surgery recently which is why he dropped as many say he is first round talent
