DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning, boys.

Actually.... I think I really only needed to type the "F" in the preceding sentence.

Dinner tonight. A couple of Tomahawk steaks - one 4 week aged, one 5 week aged. Reverse seared.
They cut like butter and chewy bark. A nice glass of red to go with. Happy days.

Looking good! What is reverse seared? Oven cooked to temperature and then seared on the grill?

First game was loser goes home and they won 67-65.

Nice!

So back down the highway we head in the morning to play in the 3/4 game. All that is at stake is where you play next weekend, although a win should give them a better match up next weekend.

Good luck for next weekend.

It's going to be tough for me, possibly the last game I will get to see him play, definitely his last high school game.

I know the feeling. I watched DD dance for 16 straight years. Constant back and forth to dance classes, rehearsals, competitions, recitals... Then it all stops and you wonder what the heck happened.

You get matching Captain America shield tattoos. Because you know, team Captain America was right all along.

Not bad... not bad.... :)

That's the one mate. When the steaks are that thick just sticking 'em in a pan ruins 'em.

Good luck to Declan in his last game and to you watching it.

Been a long one week and glad it is coming to an end. Did get some good news from my brother... He finally got his insurance approval to try a non-FDA approved method for his tumor. He will start treatment on Monday.
All the best to your brother
Chic-fil-a is tasty, and as far as filet sandwiches and nuggets reigns supreme. But… there’s no bones to suck, so I think maybe it falls away from the strictest standard of ‘Fried Chicken’

I was always been particular to a place called Grandy’s but they don’t seem to be around as much (at least on my now only occasional visits down South) You could get a gallon of sweet tea w/ your bucket of chicken. How good is that?!?

KFC in London had some real drama when they tried to change transport vendors. There was a chicken shortage and most of the shops closed for a week. National Disaster sort of thing with traumatized citizens on the evening news
Welcome to the clam bake. Pull up a chair, bring your favorite beverage and join in the shenanigans

Nice job, looks great!
Evening Guys.

Day one of the regional tournament is over and Declan's team went 1-1 on the day. First game was loser goes home and they won 67-65. That moved them into the seeding round and a game against the top seed from our conference, the cross-town rival. Lost that one 99-77 but it was a much better game than that score shows. Actually outscored them in the 2nd and 3rd quarters but a big run to start the game and another in the 4th quarter was the difference. So back down the highway we head in the morning to play in the 3/4 game. All that is at stake is where you play next weekend, although a win should give them a better match up next weekend.

Best of luck that Declan and the team bring his Dad more games to watch and memories to be made. Enjoy Darcy

Afternoon Guys,

Got to watch one more win this morning, 92-55. That gives them the third seed and they will get to stay in the city for next weekend. Declan picked up a couple of questionable fouls early so didn't see a lot of time given the game was never in doubt. He did get some time in the 3rd until picking up another foul. Played the 4th though and came away with 10 points. Next weekend's games are the provincial quarters and semis. The quarter-final match up is a good one for them, beat the team about a month ago fairly easily. Get through that one and they will have a tough match up. Hoping for the best and I will be cheering from the other side of the country.

Great that you got to see another game. Totally did not connect that you would traveling for 18 days with the playoffs still going on. Best of luck to Declan and the team.

Happy Sunday. Been a long day at work.

Very cool Dad thing to do, Captain America shields are nice.:thumbsup2

Here's a close up.

I wanted the shield. Oldest dd picked out the design.. it was fun to spend time with her as the teenage girl years have been rough.

.. :)

We made it 10 years for dance with oldest before moving on to swim. Youngest has tried them all. Dance was the worst. I love them, but watching some of their HS sports is rough.

Reverse searing sounds good. I've never tried that. One Captain is fine. For example, it's Captain Jack Sparrow.

Very nice design, teenage girls can be a challenge, I've seen one through them, one more to go :drinking1

Perhaps Captain Morgan :drinking1:drinking1:drinking1:drinking1

Congrats to Declan and you Darcy. I understand...bittersweet.

When you come to live with me, you can officially forego the doffing of hats in lieu of making good steaks. ;)
Sounds really good. I will need to try the reverse searing method...had never heard of that.

Morning, gents.
Not much to report from the North. Still cold.
Just have another 30 minutes to go then I'm off for 3 (maybe). Plan on catching up on some house chores that've been neglected for a bit and... doing nothing.

And the price difference? Drum roll please.............

3 grand. :scared1::cool1:
Wow! That's great news.

We're still in that window of difficult vacation planning.
It's tough for me too. I used to take the girls out of school when they were younger - the schools here don't really have all those metrics and strict attendance criteria. It's more of a personal choice here. Missing school when they were younger wasn't a big deal. As they got older it's harder to catch up when you miss a couple weeks of school work.
That leaves me with the inferno of Florida summers. But oldest DD needs to get summer jobs to help pay for university (I am helping her out, but she needs to help herself out too). The problem with most summer jobs is you don't get vacation time, either you work the whole summer, or don't take the job. She lucked into one last year at the ice cream shop where they didn't mind. Without knowing what her work situation is, it's hard to plan. I will soon have to make the hard decision to leave her out of the planning. She's 19 in a few weeks. Perhaps it's about that time anyway.

Had a wonderful time at Epcot yesterday. We got to spend the day with Doc and Coni, had a blast hanging out.
Looks like you guys are having a great time!

Looks fantastic. I have heard of reverse searing but have never tried it.
I always see the chefs on TV searing in the pan and then finish in the oven.

Yes, you're in that F'd up zone where there isn't much difference between the Celsius and Fahrenheit numbers.
It's not quite as cold here this morning, -9C but a wicked strong wind giving -23 windchill.

I know the feeling. I watched DD dance for 16 straight years. Constant back and forth to dance classes, rehearsals, competitions, recitals... Then it all stops and you wonder what the heck happened.
Oldest DD didn't have anything that she did a lot. A little dance, a little piano.
Youngest DD is heavy into dance, at least one class every day. It will be strange when that comes to an end.

Glad that you got to see him play over the weekend, and good that you got to see them win.
Best of luck to them.

Nice that you got to spend some time with her. The teenage years are never that easy, some worse than others of course.
My first DD wasn't too bad getting through it.
I think the second one is going to be rough. She's only 11 but going on 16.

Did get down to -40 the other day. That's where they meet.

Just had Popeye's fried chicken for lunch. New to me. Pretty new to the city. Liked it quite a bit. I was very impressed for a quick serve chain. The mac n cheese side was lousy, though. Zero flavour. The cole slaw was just okay.
Need to go south and have some real fried chicken, though.

I don't get to Popeye's much, but I seem to remember them having a decent meal for fast food.

Popeye's isn't bad. I still prefer KFC. My wife says that Bojangles is the best of the fried chicken places.

I don't think I've ever been to Bojangles. For fast food, I usually go with Chick Fil-A and then there's a steep dropoff to the other chains.

Never had Bojangles or Popeye's, but that's good to know if we are ever going past one, as I detest McD's. I had Chick-Fil-A at MCO once, it really wasn't bad. Had KFC just the once, and after 2 bites the cat had the meal of his life. Not a fan.

Chick Fil-A over KFC is always the right call.

Morning folks. 6:30am and I'm at work. Cold one out there (-31C/-24F) so bit chilly on the drive til the car warmed up.
Could be worse. Another guy came to work and hustled into the building while I was plugging in my car. When I got to the front door, he was heading back to his car.
"Bad day to forget my pass in the car." He mumbled as he hurried past. D'oh!

More proof that you don't have to look far to find someone who has it worse.

My go to is Chick Fil A.

This.

(I'm drinking from a Luella's BBQ cup right now)

Hey, good choice! :thumbsup2

Well done, sir. The cook, I mean, not the actual temperature of the steak.

I think I really only needed to type the "F" in the preceding sentence.

I'm sure that hurts a bit. Hope he does well.

Put on some coffee and stay indoors!
