DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
This is kinda fascinating.

I've collected a lot of things over the years, but never would have considered (of course until now, didn't know) these.
I might try to snag a few, but I don't think I'd want to spend the time and energy involved in trying to get them all.

I also just learned evidently there's some type of card game where you go to different locations and scan the card and it does some type of magic or gain points or something. Like I said, I've just learned of its existence, so I have absolutely no details.

Edit: Found it --- https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/attractions/magic-kingdom/sorcerers/

Oh yeah, Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is one of the very best things in WDW! Everyone in your party can get a free pack of cards from the firehouse on Main Street, literally every day you go to the Magic Kingdom. The cards and maps are really cool, and the whole game experience is really well done, and people are always intrigued when they see you opening up the portals.

The one time I went to WDW with just the wife, no kids, we spent my birthday running around all evening to beat the game (on the easy level at least). You have to beat a bunch of Disney villains, each one requiring a handful of portals, so I think we ended up making 40-50 stops along the way. We really got to know Adventureland and Frontierland that night. And the reward for all that work? Another free pack of cards! But totally worth it if you like games.

A similar experience is the Agent P (from Phineas & Ferb) spy game in the Epcot World Showcase. You play it on your phone, and go around making things happen around the nations, like Dr. Doofenschmirtz shooting a laser in Mexico etc. There's also the Pirate Adventure maps in Adventureland, but that is probably more well known. For a big kid like me, these are a few of my favorite things in WDW.

Looking at discounts being offered now, I can get pop century for less than 1/2.
Any reason why I shouldn't switch and save a bunch of money?

Not for me, but I see the location reason has been posted. I liked Pop, but have never stayed at Swolphin so can't compare.

Happy Long Weekend for those of you who have begun the celebration this morning or last night. DW are heading to Halifax tonight for a couple of days, just like our pre-kid days. It will be a bit stressful as it is the first time we will be leaving DS home alone for two night and I remember what that was like when I was 17. Although his grandparents said they would probably stop in and check on him at any time so I guess that should keep things reasonable.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Have a great time together! Don't worry about Declan. He seems like he has a good head on his shoulders. Probably due to good parenting.

I booked the swan back in April through work discount. Thought it was a decent rate (and maybe it is).

Not that I can think of. How much time to you plan to spend at the resort?

Thanks guys for the input. Basically the same feedback I got from the DDCC7 group. I have booked pop and cancelled swan and now my bank account will be happier.

I've heard a lot of people saying they like the pop and I'm not sure if it's just the price or other factors, but regardless, it will be a new resort for us.

Here are my reasons off the top of my head to keep the current booking.
1) Location.
I don't know for sure when you're traveling (I didn't go back and look), but if your plans are to hit DHS and / or Epcot multiple times, then Swan /Dolphin gives you the flexibility to walk to both parks.
2) Is there any cancellation fees?
3) Are you sure the Pop Century room is available? I saw a discount available for Pop rooms in October, but when I tried to select it, the rooms left were booked.
4) Walt Disney World vacations are a treat, for most of us. If you can afford to treat yourself, then honestly, I'd stay at the slightly nicer, slightly more convenient resort.

Reasons 2, 3, and 4 are admittedly reaching for straws. Mostly, I just wanted to point out that Swan is a great location.

Admittedly, #1 was the only potential gotcha. We're going to EPCOT once and HS once, so riding the buses (or driving) isn't a big concern. On the other hand, with the savings, I could easily take a minnie van and still end up way ahead.

I booked pop BEFORE I cancelled the swan. I may not be the brightest bulb in the pack, but I ain't the dimmest either.

You could eat your body weight in steak at Shulas and then it’s a short walk back to your room before the meat sweats start?

Well, with the money I saved, maybe now I could consider eating my body weight in steak at Shula's.

Not that I can think of. How much time to you plan to spend at the resort?

We'll have a 1/2 day Tuesday (before MNSSHP) and we'll have a full day on Thursday before heading over to see Yehaa Bob. Most of the time at the resort though is sleeping in, the pool, watching TV, playing games or just wandering around relaxing. If we decide to wander over to the swan or the boardwalk, we can do that too.

On another note, they were trying to talk me into DDP while I was booking. $78/person/day is steep. Although we have several higher end meals (Tiffins and Rose & Crown), I don't think we will spend $1400+ in food. Still need to run the numbers on this one.

I know the feeling. Done that a couple times with oldest DD, I think she was 17 the first time. Very stressful, but like others have said, he seems responsible and raised well.

I see you have good advice already and made your decision. I was going to chime in and suggest you go with POP. Although @unclescrooge_0707 made a very good point about location (and I've been tempted to look at Swolphin myself for that reason) after my recent stay at a value, my general opinion is that they are fine. I can't remember your party size/make up, but the only major issue I had was the single sink. With three ladies in the room, doing hair/makeup everyday was a bit of an issue getting going in the mornings. That may not be such an issue for you.

It will be me, DW and DD. DD doesn't wear makeup and not sure on vacation and in the heat DW will much either. As Mark alluded to, I think the only time it might be a bit cramped is resort days...we're kinda spoiled with DVC and spreading out. ;)

Thanks Guys, appreciate the support.

The other scary part is that we will have fewer and fewer opportunities to travel together as he enters grade 12. Of course we haven't told him we made sure to book a cruise for 2020 that doesn't coincide with his break at his first choice of universities. LOL

I agree with the other guys. He, from what I've heard, seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

If having a good dad has anything to do with it, you're good to go! No worries mate.

Happy Friday Dads.
We are loading up and heading to my dads house for the weekend for a family reunion and some bird hunting. He is going to have knee surgery Tuesday:crutches: so all the family is gonna try and make it this year to give him a send off.
For those who are getting a long weekend enjoy.... in moderation.... :rotfl:

Sooo... Are you really stressed out or just a little? The reason I ask is that I have a story about what happened when I was left at home alone when I was 17.:scared1: I'd share, but I don't want to genuinely scare you.

Just a little. We've had a good chat so I think we are OK. I've written down the mileage on the car and our security system shows me all entries and exits to the house so we're good. ;)

All you can do is hope for the best. We are leaving our DD18 at home this weekend because she has to work. We have Life360 on all our phones so we will know where she goes. The only thing that makes me breath a little easier is that she hates people in general so I'm not that worried about people coming over.

Did it have anything to do with bottle rockets?

OK...
I'll officially ask here at least.
We're considering attempting to stay for a few days in the fall of 2019 (probably at Boardwalk if we can swing it).
Would anyone here be in need of renting out points around that time?

Market-what??
Can't say as I've run across such.
How does one go about accessing said imaginary land?

I likely will be Rob, but...
Since BWV is not my home resort, the earliest I'd be able to book for you is 7 months prior.
