DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Drank a bourbon for you already. (Four Roses)

Go Spurs!!! er um Go Lions!!! :lmao:
It was tough last night, with my avowed distaste for that team from N London. I let George stay up and watch the game, and everyone who was playing well, he was asking "Who do they play for?". So our goalscorer, our best player (Trippier) and the guy that buried the last penalty, I had to answer "Dirty Spurs".
I opened a bottle of Bulleit Rye, never had it, really enjoyed it.
Cheers back at you. Enjoyed my time at the watering hole. I know the bartender so she gives me a good pour. There was about 50/50 split between the fans. The Columbians were mostly quiet until they tied it up in extra time. Then they went nuts. You will be happy to know they left quietly after the kicks. The suspense was probably not what you needed but England advances, so I imagine it brightened you day a bit.
Just a little, everyone over here is doing their nut now.

Happy 4th guys. May your beer be cold, your BBQ tasty and your potato salad does not contain salmonella. My plans are a drive to Cracker Barrel at Florida City for breakfast, picking up Sonny's BBQ take out for dinner, and probably watching a movie while the dog freaks out over the fireworks.

We’re just biding our time........
Wishing you all a happy 4th July from us over here, have a great one fellas.

Thanks you sir. On the slight chance you did invite us back, a few years later you will hold a referendum and un-invite us.

Top O the Mornin Dads from the Orlando Airport Hyatt! Head to Port Canaveral in a couple of hours. Wishing everybody a Happy 4th of July! Stay safe and enjoy the cold beer and grilled foods.

Morning gents.
Happy July 4 to y'all south of the 49th.

Wait! The superbowl moved to July?
:rotfl2:

:lmao:

He craps in his pants?

One can hope so.

No no, a REAL world tournament. ;)

;)

I did that for a World Series game. "We've got a shot to get to the World Series final!"
Me: "Oh? Who are you playing? Japan?"

No. I need a bourbon. COME ON YOU LIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That bottle must be drained by now.
I only just found out who one. I was far too exhausted/busy to even remember to look until just now.

Happy Independence Day.

:lmao:

We here in America could never stand to be ruled by an elite wealthy class of people, subjugated by having high %s of taxes withheld from income, and laws passed by Courts instead of Congress. There would be a revolution. :furious:

This moved up to 75 in April to get the benefits.

Well, that may change the cost factor, but it would still be cheaper to buy 100+ point contract resale and 75 point contract from Disney as opposed to 175 points direct from Disney.

Fireworks over the ocean on the 4th of July? That makes for a great show. Have a good trip.

Happy Independence Day to all our fine neighbors in the south (there, I spelled it "your way" in honor of the occasion)

I was happy the game went into extra ends yesterday since I wasn't able to get back from work early, but enjoyed barbecuing pork chops for supper while watching the remainder and the PKs.

It's a couple days late to report, but if anyone remembers my brined spatchcocked chicken....

IMG_0642.JPG

It cooked very well, about 1 hour on medium indirect heat (it's a gas grill). The meat was very moist.
I used a small bit of chicken rub as well as the brine.

The chicken sounds like it'll be good. Did you spatchcock it and make the brine yourself?
I did spatchcock it myself. Wasn't too hard. I used a decent pair of kitchen shears. Also made the brine myself, just a simple recipe I found in a "how to" on YouTube, no idea if it's decent since I haven't brined before - 1/2 cup salt, 1//2 cup brown sugar, 1 tbsp. onion powder, 1 tsp. garlic powder, 1 tsp. pepper.
If anyone has a good brine recipe to share, I'd be happy to see it.

That long brine will make it worth it. I've not done one on the grill, but it sounds great.
So, about the brine...it was certainly effective...perhaps too much so. Very salty. DW didn't like it, I thought it was a tad salty but enjoyed it, the girls both liked it, but I guess younger palates can take saltier food.
When I do it again I'll brine for 4-6 hours and maybe cut back on the salt in the recipe.

I'm thinking it was in the brine too long? Didn't you have it in there for a day and a half?

Well, maybe keeping it in a brine too long isn't a good idea. I spatch thingy the turkey after overnight brine in just salt and water. I brush it with butter, and season salt and pepper before cooking in the oven.

Happy 4th Guys.

Made my way to Ottawa this afternoon for a day of meetings tomorrow and had some time to walk around. Thought I would share this picture of the back side of the US Embassy for you on the 4th. It is taken from the rear of Parliament Hill and across the Rideau Canal.

Morning chaps from a vaguely overcast London. Hopefully everyone is still able to High-Five, and didn't hit the Pepto-Bismol too hard.

Agreed. I think Doc was asking would it make a difference which way around you bought them, I couldn't think of one though.
The meat was very moist.
Wasn't too hard.
:rolleyes1

Chicken is porous, it would have absorbed all that salt as well as water. Less brining time.

Enjoy those meetings bud (as much as anyone can)

Have a good day chaps.

Went to the outlaws last night and ate dinner with BIL for first time since divorce. When he presented his wife with the divorce, he gave her two options. #1 Give her full custody of the kids, she moves back to Pennsylvania with her family, 1/2 amount recommended child support, & none of his police retirement. They have no money or assets other than cars his mother bought for them. Option #2 was for her to stay here, he would fight her for custody, not make child support or child care payments, etc and make her life hell. He started calling her work (not her cell) 5 to 10 times a day. Yeah, he's the police. What is she going to do?

So, she took 1/2 the money and went back home. FIL has had professional cleaners in the home he bought for them, removing trash they were too lazy to throw away. FIL is so worried about the house and continued drain on his retirement funds, he sold the house quickly, and will take a $10,000 loss on the sale, not counting what he was out on down payment and cleaning fees. He said they paid rent while they lived there.

So, after shattering two families, he complains about how awful his ex-wife is and how terrible of a parent she is at dinner. I really wanted to ask why he gave up his children to someone he thinks is so terrible? I didn't. Maintained the peace.

Even though I'm dealing with girl teenage hormones, I am thankful today for my family.

Agreed. I think Doc was asking would it make a difference which way around you bought them, I couldn't think of one though.
.

Under the old rules, only DVC members could buy add on contracts, and Disney had a minimum contract points purchase in to buy direct. I think it was 100 or 160 points.

For resale then, I could buy a 100 point contract at close to half price of direct, and then buy that 25 point minimum contract for "full" benefits.

But, if the add on contract changed to a minimum of 75 points and you don't have to be a member to buy a low point contract, then yes, it wouldn't make much sense whichever order you went.

Morning guys. Got about 3 hours of sleep last night so I guess things are back to normal. Do wish they evened out a bit. (sorry about the sleeping update). Had a nice 4th. Breakfast was good and dinner was better.

Although S. Florida is a large metropolitan area, the town I live in is small, about 13,000 people. The one thing they do big is the 4th. We have a large park and on the 4th they have food trucks, face painting stuff for the kids and other entertainment. While the fireworks are not Disney it is one of the most impressive shows down here. The really nice thing is I can sit out on my back patio and see them. The mutt was freaking out as expected and hovered around me. Luckily I avoided tripping on him and breaking ribs again. All in all a good day and night.

Great pic. Would say something snarky about invasion plans but am avoiding it.

No pepto and no aspirin needed here.

Yes, you are. But when necessary you can be a stubborn people. Can you say 100 years war?

Went to the outlaws last night and ate dinner with BIL for first time since divorce.

That really sucks. Sorry you are put in the situation. Feel even more sorry for the kids, totally not necessary.

Sounds like you had a good time with the 4th party. I look forward to the day when I can enjoy the holidays without forced outlaw time.

And yes, the kids are the ones hurting. The oldest two stopped having much to do with him. The youngest, age 4, being 300 miles away and only visiting a few times a year will just forget him, especially after the mom re-marries. There is a 12 year old that will be effected the most.

Sorry to hear that Norm. Teenage girl hormones are bad, but not bad like that. Good you're thankful for your family...no matter how bad things may be, there's always someone that has it worse and we never know how much longer we have with them!

See, I wish I could remember what the person told me. There was something (or maybe 2 or 3) specific. Since I'd already bought direct, so it was a moot point for me, I think I promptly filed it in the "no help to me category", but now trying to help someone else. Dagnabbit.

Morning compatriots, from a Sunny London. Friends round tomorrow for the game.

I really wanted to ask why he gave up his children to someone he thinks is so terrible? I didn't. Maintained the peace.
He's a lovely piece of work. Good man for keeping your counsel, I've learnt there is no payoff in that.
Yes, you are. But when necessary you can be a stubborn people. Can you say 100 years war?
We are absolutely fine, right up to the point where we think something is unfair.
Or a football is involved.
Then all hell breaks loose.

Have a good Friday chaps.

5 days until I can make my ADRs for DDCC7 trip!!

19 days until I do FPs for Sep trip!!

It's beginning to look a lot like Disney....oh, I'm ready to go!
(sung to tune of beginning to look a lot like Christmas)

Is this PM match between Brazil vs Belgium going to decide the World Cup? Belgium is the super team, but Brazil is the favorite.

I'm always ready for a Disney vacation.

Morning guys.

Still having a heat wave heat wave up here today but it is suppose to rain so maybe that will help. While I was in Ottawa the AC in the office was fixed so that should help.

Looking forward to some more World Cup action today.

Have a good one all.

Should be an interesting game. I wonder how many times Neymar will roll across the field today? I hope he got over that gun shot wound from the last match.
