DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
For those that have Netflix, they just added The Last Jedi in the US. Not sure about Canada and the UK. Guess I have my evening entertainment for tonight.

Got a little feisty at the end of the Portugal/Iran. The ref should be shot.

That was not violent conduct and it certainly wasn't intentional.

What they need to do is start throwing yellow cards for all the foolish diving.

Cheers boys. The op went well, the hopefully good news is there was still a small amount of my Achilles attached, which means the heal time is potentially a little bit quicker. The quack said if they had picked that up, they may not have operated, but I wanted it done, so that's a cheeky bonus. The other thing to cling to is they said I may be out of the boot in 6 weeks, which would before before we travel, which would be awesome.
You do think some pretty dark things though as you lay on the table in theatre.

Good to hear everything went well Dan.

Always interesting on the operating table. A few years ago I was having that surgery that many men have when they reach a certain age. During the surgery the doctor and the nurse were discussing Michael Jackson's recent arrest for molestation. This was happening while they were working on a pretty sensitive area. Great topic for discussion as you handle my parts Doc!

Love it!

Top O the Mornin Dads! Head down to Orlando 1 week from today  then onto cruise July 4, hit DaWorld July 8 then back home July 15. Packing is new challenge with cruise and WDW needs combined with the number of days - oh the crosses one must bare.......... Have a good one gents.

Thanks mate. We had a little bit of the same on the April trip. In Asheville it was 16C in Orlando 30C, coming over from the UK for 16 days. We were just ruthless and then hit the DVC laundry as soon as we got to Disney.

I think VAR is the the start. I can't remember how many games were ruined by bad decisions over the years, and now things are getting picked up, as the ref can focus on the periphery because he has people helping him out in the VAR room. As VAR gets slicker and there are more areas they can look at, some of this play acting will decline. I know it doesn't seem it, but there has been a marked decline of diving in the penalty box in this World Cup. Because they know you can't con the cameras.

"See that Bears game last week?"

Well I did a bit more trip planning over the weekend.
Bought tickets for MNSSHP on 24th August, it will be a bit of a do-over since the last one we went to, we were over an hour late getting to it (I foolishly planned it for check in day and room wasn't ready).
I've also decided to try renting a car for most of the trip. My usual trips have been a week at a rental home, with a car, and we do "the dark side" park and shopping, then our next week was on site at Disney. This trip will be shorter, so only staying on site. But the ladies still want a couple half days worth of shopping, so I figured for the convenience instead of doing taxi/Uber I would just rent a car to get off site, and also use it instead of the Disney buses. I know several people who swear by having a car on site and don't like the wait for buses. I'll see if this is worth it. And yes, I know about the extra parking fee at the Disney resorts now. Definitely made me think hard about getting a car.

Looks like you're still stuck with Sir Limps-a-lot.
Yep, just can't seem to avoid it :rotfl2:

I need to send you my schedule, since it's pretty much set up now, so we can plan a meet up.

Great news, hope you are quickly on the mend and can have a boot-free trip.

Sounds great! I can see the packing dilemma, but a good problem to have I guess.

'Morning all...
All quite down this way.
(We'll see if it stays that way after the polls close)

I see a cheeky Toasted Bacon and Egg sandwich from the cafe in my immediate future.
Not a bad immediate future.

And that is a good result.
Heal quickly (and have a couple extra brews to combat those dark thoughts.)

That's hysterical...
Were all the young'ens dressing for the trip?

Time to buy a lottery ticket.
We refer to that as: "paying your stupid tax".
Been feeling a mite stupid lately, so I may need to go out a pay a bit of it myself.

For those that have Netflix, they just added The Last Jedi in the US. Not sure about Canada and the UK. Guess I have my evening entertainment for tonight.
Interesting...
I may have to watch that this evening.
That is the first of the SW films that I never got around to seeing in the theater.
Not sure if that's a sad commentary or not.

I can see where that might be just a tad bit unnerving.
Bad timing to say the least...

Good for y'all. Drink all the rum and have fun storming the castle.

A bit of Fla. time and a bit of ship time would be a nice thing but that kind'a stuff will be a good bit off into the future for us. We have traveled a bit this season though and we are headed out again in the near, so it's not like I've been deprived.

Thanks buddy. How's the office renovations going?

:rotfl2:

Carpet has all been replaced and the furniture is all moved back to where is was before. Few boxes left to unpack but it may be easier just to file them in the dumpster. ;)

We did a rental for our last trip but for the most part it sat in the resort parking lot. We did use it to visit the in-laws as well as to pick them up for a birthday dinner. I'm not sure if I would rent for the entire stay again or not. I guess it would depend on the deal I could get.

My intention is to use it to go to the parks, instead of the Disney bus. I've never done this before so it's an experiment for sure. I have a feeling it won't be worth it, but I found a deal over the weekend that was $100 cheaper than when I first looked last month, so I booked it. I'll keep looking for a better price.

Call me old fashioned or a purist or weird (I know the last is most likely - I get that a lot), but I'm just not enjoying the newer movies as much as some folks. Special effects - :thumbsup2:. Plot...not so much. Since I have netflix, may watch it again just because I don't have to pay for it this time, but just not a big fan of the stuff since the original 3.

I'd say head down to FL. Nothing removes the deprived feeling like the whooshing sound of money rapidly leaving your account. :lmao:

Nothing violent, just got chippy with lots of jawing. Agree with the yellow card time. Not as many in the past but there is still a lot of flopping around.

Nice trip, I'm still waiting for October.

Still a fair amount, maybe the video has helped a bit.

Well I did a bit more trip planning over the weekend.

Good plans and enjoy MNSSHP. I drive up but mostly only use the car to go get supplies offsite. If we have a special dinner planned, I'll probably drive there.

Carpet has all been replaced and the furniture is all moved back to where is was before. Few boxes left to unpack but it may be easier just to file them in the dumpster. ;)

Progress is good. I vote for the dumpster.

Better than yesterday not as good as tomorrow.

Keep it up with the good news.

Can't in any way speak for what experience you'll have, but for some reason we've always had rather bad luck dealing with DisTrans in the past. I started doing most of my own driving a couple of visits ago and for me it's been a vast improvement. There are caveats in my favor though: a) we normally drive down anyway so the car is already on site & b) I'm particularly good at dealing with maps, directions and the quirks of driving anyway so getting around down there is pretty straight forward. Depending on what kind of hopping or plans we have, monorails and boats (and maybe a bus or two) get used from time to time, but for the main trips from resort to the parks, D.Springs and side attractions I do the chauffeuring.

Better than yesterday not as good as tomorrow.
Not a bad motto...
Certainly a positive one.

I won't give any spoilers then.

I've succeeded in not actually encountering any spoilers to date, but I'm quite aware of a general disappointment that is out there for this one. I've tried to like the newer stuff as well, but I'm just the wrong age for it. The original hit when I was in my early teens and has pretty much colored my outlook on all the rest.

I'd say head down to FL. Nothing removes the deprived feeling like the whooshing sound of money rapidly leaving your account. :lmao:
Oh, the bank-notes have been whooshing out of my pockets quite fluidly this year; just not in Florida.
Spent a decent chunk taking my better half down to NoLa, but it was a great outing and worth it.
The upcoming venture will be out to the PacNW and since the airfare was a gift I could hardly say no to the venture.

That's hysterical...
Were all the young'ens dressing for the trip?
yep. they take them into a victorian classroom, have a normal school day except they use slate and chalk, and blackboards. they can only have a dry roll, apple and water for lunch. the full 9 yards. the boy loved it.
I vote for the dumpster.
seconded.
Heal quickly (and have a couple extra brews to combat those dark thoughts.)
Cheers Rob, will do mate.
I need to send you my schedule, since it's pretty much set up now, so we can plan a meet up.
:thumbsup2 Yep, I'm pretty much set as well. Let me know.
I've also decided to try renting a car for most of the trip.
but for some reason we've always had rather bad luck dealing with DisTrans in the past.
I hate the buses. Its mainly why we try and stay on the monorail. We had a car when we stayed at Saratoga and Art of Animation. Still convinced it was the right decision. I think we are gonna get a car for the AK section of the vacation and then drop it back when we get back from Vero. That way I can leave 2 cases at the Poly for storage and rent a little car, rather than the wallet hoover I normally have to get for 4 people, 4 large cases plus carry ons.

Happy Tuesday. My surgery is scheduled for August 1. That avoids enough scheduling entanglements and gives me the three weeks off if I need them to recover. However, I imagine I'll be back to the office on light duty, which is my whole job.

Nope but avoid the driving and parking - Lyft

The Lyft from KY is quite expensive though. :lmao:

A choice between running twenty-six miles at O-Dark-30 in January or heading out for a dream-job in Hawaii...
Yeah, that must have been a tough choice.
.

I thought the same. I'm not sure it would need to be the dream job though for me. Anywhere else to avoid running would work. :lmao:

Cheers boys. The op went well, the hopefully good news is there was still a small amount of my Achilles attached, which means the heal time is potentially a little bit quicker. Congrats on being alive after the surgery. Hope your recovery time is quick and that both of us can play tennis at WDW when we next meet up.

Time to buy a lottery ticket

.

I did that today when I put gas in the car. Powerball for tomorrow. I'm already counting my winnings. :sad2:

Top O the Mornin Dads! Head down to Orlando 1 week from today  then onto cruise July 4, hit DaWorld July 8 then back home July 15. Packing is new challenge with cruise and WDW needs combined with the number of days -
!

You'll need another vacation after all that configuring. I did enjoy the longer vacation, but summers are bad with tennis tournaments for myself and youngest to take vacations.

I would never drive to the theme parks, especially MK with the parking lot to TTC to monorail/ferry over. We did the rental car because we landed in Sanford, drove to Mass, and drove to the beach. Otherwise, I wouldn't have the rental. Buses aren't the most convenient, but I don't want to fight the traffic at night when leaving. Stay at a deluxe resort, walk or monorail to some theme parks, and limit to just a few bus rides.

Similar to what I say....The lottery is just a tax on people who are bad at math.

I won't give any spoilers then.

:lmao:

Well, paying the % of taxes from our income is for people who are bad at math, but we've taken that all these years. :furious:

I'm with you on the Last Jedi and the Avengers. I watch movies now with a more critical eye than when I was younger and still suspend judgment while watching them. However, it can only go so far. I don't want to spend money at the cinema if i don't enjoy it. So, I'll be watching the remainder of them on Netflix when they come out.
