Good morning all. It is still another beautiful day here except the smokers a few doors down on the balcony.

No sir. Swan for September and WLV for Jan.
Took your advice and switched our ADR from Cape May Cafe to Garden Grove. Since we're at the Swan, that's closer anyway and not only do they have clam strips (my favorite), crab legs for DW, but lobster and steak too. SCORE!

Haven't stayed at S&D, although would consider it if price worked out. The fried clam strips were just ok though. We hadn't been there in over 10 years, but remembered the crab legs being better than Cape May. All the others were nice extras.

My DIL calls it ADD ooh shiny.
Where did you get that shirt? We use that phrase a lot too.

It was at a stand near the front of AK, inside the park. AK has Wilderness Explorers park activity with Dug and Russell. There was a merchandise cart near their picture station. It may have been elsewhere.

Being a CM is nothing like what you imagine it to be. Not saying it's bad, but leave the pixie dust at home. For many people, Disney can be a difficult company to work for.
I'm one of those but there are plenty of CMs who are the other.
That's a long commute.

That's not surprising. There used to be a lot more dads posting in this thread before the board changes and FB groups, and one has his daughter in the college program, a CM in MK popcorn cart. He shared stories from her. I worked with a guy at UPS in Louisville 20+ years ago who shared stories as well. Every job has those same issues. My university job laid off faculty and won't give pay increases, but builds three new campus buildings, claiming that it is a separate pool of money.

I know there's no chance now of working at WDW, although, I wonder what could have been.

I used to smoke and that's probably the single thing that I will call the front desk and complain about. If they say no smoking, then NO SMOKING! I'm not one of those militant ex-smokers except when it comes to Disney rooms and balconies...I'm on vacation too and I don't want your smoke ruining my vacation.

I got a discount through work for Swan, although looking at what it cost, I'm not so certain about the discount part. I like fried clams regardless...I've had good and I've had bad. I guess the only exception was when I was working in RI and they gave me fully belly clams...did not like those at all. DW is all about crab legs, but she really likes lobster too, so I think it will be a win all the way around. I told DW since she barely ate anything on most of the buffets the last trip, I may just get her a QS meal and let her stay in the room and watch TV. She's totally bummed about that concept.

We're headed to AK in September, and I seem to recall seeing UP or Russell & Dug or Russell & Carl or something when we left after ROL, so will have to keep an eye out.

Well, aside from DW, there is. I was talking to one of the captains down there and they said they're ALWAYS looking for people. On the other hand, that could be a warning/danger sign...that means people are always quitting or being fired.

Okay, general question for all DISdads...

Where is the best place to watch fireworks at MK without having to deal with the pushing and shoving that happens in the central area?
I know you can do dessert party (for a cost) on tomorrowland terrace as well as the viewing from the boat (again cost). I think Norm mentioned the bridge to tommorowland because you can sit on benches, walls or rockers. Where are some other good spots? I'm thinking maybe going behind the castle might be an option next time since the projections on the castle didn't do much for me, but wondering about other good spots y'all may know about.

It's Monday. Blah. Youngest DD had her end of year dance recitals over the weekend, she was in 5 dances Friday night and 7 dances Saturday night. DD did well and she enjoys it, but dance has taken up the majority of 6 of the last 8 weekends between competitions, rehearsal, and the recital, so I am ready for a break from it. We all spent Sunday in our pajamas, except I crept out in the afternoon to (finally) see Avengers Infinity war (spoiler: it really was as good as everybody said).

We walked over to DHS for Star Wars fireworks. It was bad. They changed the show from when we here last. Volume is lower and fireworks are smaller. Sad. Now, I've got Hallowishes as my last favorite Fireworks show.

Really, darn. I was looking forward to seeing the Star Wars fireworks - for my first time - in August. I guess I'll have nothing else to compare it too, so...
I'm planning to catch MNSSHP on the 24th. It will be nice to see Hallowishes again.

I've never been a smoker, but my father was. He kept it to the basement, but I never liked going down there.

I'm thinking maybe going behind the castle might be an option next time since the projections on the castle didn't do much for me, but wondering about other good spots y'all may know about.

I pretty much have watched from the crowd in front of the castle, but I do get frustrated with the jostling for position. I'll do that at least once on my August trip since HEA will be new for me and I've never seen the projections.
I've read, and seen video, of practically empty Fantasyland with the fireworks overhead. It's certainly a different perspective, but if you don't mind missing the projections and a different view, it's much less crowded. Maybe even a bench to sit on?

Some first day thoughts. Flying is terrific. I arrived without being completely exhausted. However, local airport flight was terrible. Small plane and lots of turbulence and had to fly into Sanford. So, I think I'll pay the higher price to fly out of Evansville with a larger plane and land for Magical Express in lieu of a rental car.

I wish I was flying down this summer. But the cost of 6 tickets adds up quickly.

Disney has changed. I'm ok with changes for the better, but it doesn't seem to be going that way. Get off my lawn. I'm going back to Bellevue.

Sorry to hear that. I haven't been in the parks in a few years so I'm interested to see if I feel the same way.

The kid is back from the Dry Tortugas. Took advantage of the sunshine and met her in Key Largo. Went to one of my favorite breakfast places and had the Eggs Benedict, looks like I am feeling better.

Afternoon chaps. Hit Early morning time in the main Park, did Peter
Pan, Pirates, Buzz, Space, Small world, Dumbo, the Maze and met Jessie and Alice. Big thunder is down which we had a fast pass for, and Phantom Manor is shut for refurb. Just brought the kids back for some down time and then off to Studios, DS finally wants to do Tower of Terror.

Not too shabby there.

Well...might have to cancel the January trip. Just found the blockout dates for Gold AP and 1st-3rd are blocked out. Could've sworn I saw something the other day saying they weren't blocked out.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Just a quick stop today with a big Happy Birthday to Randall! Had a good weekend with BIL & SIL in town for MIL birthday, DD 1st year anniversary was yesterday unfortunately with only some face time communications (wow that year went fast). Looks like all the families at Disney Parks are enjoying - Norm toss the smokers over the balcony and Dan nicely down with DS and ToT , CJ glad you got to see PP for a bit and Jeff glad the dance recital stuff is over for you - not sure I could have done that many weekends of that, you're a good Dad! Have a good week gents.

Evening boys, from Calais. Did a final morning sweep of the main rides, it was way busier than we thought it would be. Did Small world, Pirates, Star tours, Autopia, Buzz, Mickey meet, Minnie meet, Genie Meet, BTMR, and we try and always do the train on the last day. Now sitting in our version of the tragical express, the Channel Tunnel shuttle. I’ll catch up tomorrow, just checked in to wish the Chief a Bonne Anniversaire.

Good question. I qualify for retirement at the end of July, but don't know yet when I'll hang it up. It'll be sooner rather than later.

Occasionally, DW and I will have the "retire to work at Disney" conversation and we always wonder if working there would destroy the magic.

It will kill off the Magic as you currently envision it, however, a different Magic takes it place and that's what has kept me there for as long as it has.

I'm sure it's like any other job--there's a reason they have to pay you to do it.

But if you have the right situation, and I certainly do, it's really interesting and a lot of fun.
