DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
NBA is over, or soon will be. Looks like Capitals are going to win this one. Good showing for Vegas though.

Well, aside from DW, there is. I was talking to one of the captains down there and they said they're ALWAYS looking for people. On the other hand, that could be a warning/danger sign...that means people are always quitting or being fired.

Yeah, it won't happen now. I'm just hoping to get a beach condo in Destin. No plan for supplemental income. I'm hoping retirement survives along with personal investments.

Okay, general question for all DISdads...

Where is the best place to watch fireworks at MK without having to deal with the pushing and shoving that happens in the central area?
I know you can do dessert party (for a cost) on tomorrowland terrace as well as the viewing from the boat (again cost). I think Norm mentioned the bridge to tommorowland because you can sit on benches, walls or rockers. Where are some other good spots? I'm thinking maybe going behind the castle might be an option next time since the projections on the castle didn't do much for me, but wondering about other good spots y'all may know about.

More smoke & smell behind the castle. Not that it is a bad thing.

I can understand that. Occasionally, DW and I will have the "retire to work at Disney" conversation and we always wonder if working there would destroy the magic. I'm sure it's like any other job--there's a reason they have to pay you to do it.

The magic was there for our honeymoon, but it changed after our trip with the dds. It has changed now that they are teens. I'm not saying it's bad, just different. It was funny when the whole audience at Bug's Life screams for the hornets and cockroaches.

The changes that bother me are cash grabs. Double the price of TiW card. Parking charges (not me DVC). The paper plates in DVC rooms are generic, no longer include Disney logo. More resorts, more people increased prices - where are the new rides (net #)?

Jodi and I are talking about working for the Park Service in some way when we retire.

No more government jobs for me.

Morning chaps. Not much on today, so have "All or Nothing", the Amazon programme that follows a football team all season, on in the background. It's pretty good. Finally, a decent cup of coffee. Coffee in DLP is like lukewarm dishwater. Steak Tacos for dinner.

Good morning all. It is still another beautiful day here except the smokers a few doors down on the balcony. :furious:
Hook a hose up to the faucet and make it rain, brother.
That's fantastic! Good to know you're passing along the love of Disney rides genes.
:thumbsup2 I bribed him with a pin. They do a pretty cool one, with the key hanging off it. He's just getting into pins, this could end up costing more than DVC.
She gets distracted very easily. I saw the shirt, bought it for her, and had then to get the picture.
Nice photo bud
Is that really the case?
I'm sure it has its many highlights, but I'd rather be on the customer side of that equation.

We did the Plaza gardens dessert party, it was great.
I'm planning to catch MNSSHP on the 24th
We are doing it on the 28th, so you'll have to pass along any tips, as this is our first MNSSHP.
Have a big dinner planned where the star of the show is a bone-in ribeye.
Beautiful.
I wish I was flying down this summer. But the cost of 6 tickets adds up quickly
I'll put my bill for flying up against yours......:scared1:

Have a great Tuesday fellas.

s.

I'll sell you my pin collection at 1/2 price. I went a bit crazy there for awhile.

I must admit to losing interest in the Final. Vegas was impressive, but them winning just wouldn't "fell right" for me. I've never had any particular feelings - toward or against - the Capitals. So this whole series is a bit meh for me. I've flicked on a couple of the games for a few minutes to check the score, but that's about it.

This MNSSHP is a bit of a do-over for us. It will be our third, and I had said I wouldn't do another. Our first, in 2010, was enjoyable, although I had no idea what we were doing, but the crowds were light and I did a loop on Big Thunder 3 times in a row to finish the night. Our second party in 2014, we were late getting there (after 8:00pm) since ladies were getting ready (I don't think further explanation is required), put us behind the entire night, missed the stage show, were late getting a spot for the parade, just felt off the whole night. So this one in August is to try getting a warm fuzzy feeling about the party again.

I'm far from an expert, but get there early (if you already have a park ticket for that day, you can show up anytime, if you aren't using a ticket day and just use your MNSSHP ticket, you can enter around 4:00pm). I think you need to focus on A) rides, B) characters, C) trick or treating/special snacks, and fit the parade, show & fireworks in between those things. I really don't think you can do ABC all in the one night. The Halloween themed characters especially are very popular. Personally, I think it would be nice to have a picture with the Seven Dwarfs, but is it worth queuing up for 90+ minutes? No. Same with Jack Skellington. My family has mainly focused on rides (due to short waits) and done a little trick or treating at a couple stations (they have over a dozen I think), plus see the stage show, parade, and fireworks. Alternatively, you can queue up for characters and fit in the show/parade/fireworks between, if that's your thing. Oh, you'll see numerous articles saying the 2nd parade is less crowded. Just in my personal experience, that is not the case. I used that tip last party and ended up buried 6 people deep in Frontierland for it. But the whole party seemed especially crowded that night, so maybe not typical.

Ditto for me. Maybe for more obvious reasons. Just... meh.

MNSSHP:
Agree with most of what’s been said already. And if you want to do characters then pick one... or split your party ( which probably defeats the purpose). Parade and fireworks are not to be missed and trick or treating is surprisingly fun. Make sure you take some time for the special magic shots that are available too. And do not miss Mme ... ah crap. Can’t remember her name. Anyway, woman (ghost) who hangs out in front of HM.

Happy belated birthday, Randall!

I can understand the appeal of that for retirement as well. You just need to be willing to live in some fairly remote places. But then again, that might be part of the appeal.

It will kill off the Magic as you currently envision it, however, a different Magic takes it place and that's what has kept me there for as long as it has.

That makes sense. I can certainly see the appeal of trying to make someone's day special each and every day.

But if you have the right situation, and I certainly do, it's really interesting and a lot of fun.

I find that the older I get, the less I care about I actually do for a living and the more I care about who I'm working with and for.

The changes that bother me are cash grabs. Double the price of TiW card. Parking charges (not me DVC). The paper plates in DVC rooms are generic, no longer include Disney logo. More resorts, more people increased prices - where are the new rides (net #)?

Yeah, I'm with you there. I do feel like I'm getting nickel-and-dimed much more. Or that the rank-and-file families are getting squeezed out to make room for special events and guests willing to pay extra for other experiences. The parking fee at the hotels really bugged me.

Good point, it could always be worse! I guess we need Southwest to start flying to London.

I'm kind of ambivalent, too. The Capitals are a divisional rival of the Flyers, so that makes me naturally against them. And while Vegas is a nice story, it also kind of highlights the incompetence of my own team the farther they go.

.

Not sure how familiar you might be with college football, but I can say you're going to see more "nothing" than "all" if you're watching the most recent season. Lol, Jim Harbaugh is such a weirdo.

(Go Bucks!)

Afternoon Gents.

Just a quick check in from beuatiful Dalvay by the Sea in Prince Edwards Island. Board meeting here today and tomorrow and I have a couple of hours before the next meeting starts. Beautiful inn in a house built in 1895 on the north shore of the Island. It is certainly one of the smallest rooms I have been in and there is no TV or clocks in the room.

Hope the trips all went well or are still going well. And Happy Belated Birthday Randall!

I binge watched the first season today, which was the Cards in their NFC Champ run. I’ve still got the last one to watch, but I’m pretty sure I remember how it finishes....
I can only see 3 seasons on my Netflix, Cards, Rams and the Cowboys
I do watch the college football, but normally a couple of days behind you guys, as I’ll DVR in the Sat/Sun and catch up on Monday.

Well that doesn’t sound too painful there, Darcy mate...

Ah, I see. I was referring to the University of M*ch*gan season that just came out on Amazon here in April, so maybe that's a few months behind for release on your side of the pond. Did you ever watch any HBO Hard Knocks series? I wonder how the Amazon version compares to those?

And Happy Belated Birthday Randall!

Happy Tuesday guys. Got nothing.

Being a CM is nothing like what you imagine it to be. Not saying it's bad, but leave the pixie dust at home. For many people, Disney can be a difficult company to work for.

So I am assuming you don't go to WDW for vacation. Where do you go?

Where is the best place to watch fireworks at MK without having to deal with the pushing and shoving that happens in the central area?

A number of years ago, due to bad timing we were in a secluded area in Frontierland when they went off. It was July 4 and they did the 360 display. That was really cool an a relatively crowd free area. Not sure I would go there on purpose.

Well...might have to cancel the January trip. Just found the blockout dates for Gold AP and 1st-3rd are blocked out. Could've sworn I saw something the other day saying they weren't blocked out.
Dagnabbit!

That sucks. You can always move it back a few days and meet up with everyone at the DDC.

Jodi and I are talking about working for the Park Service in some way when we retire.

That would be cool.

Evening boys, from Calais.

Sounds like it was a great trip. As evidence is the pic you posted on the zonked out kids.

Well, I'm not saying you're old, but you knew Moses, right?
:lmao:

Bounced him on my knee.

Hey, I resemble those remarks. Again, Happy Birthday Randall.

Best news though? On Wednesday I'll be at WDW!!!!

You suck. I'm kidding, have a blast.

We are doing it on the 28th, so you'll have to pass along any tips, as this is our first MNSSHP.

I'm less a ride person during special events and enjoy the extras. The shows, entertainment, parade, fireworks and of course the candy. We did the rides early when you can first enter the park. If the kids can take it, I would do the second parade.

I didn't know about those, I'll have to see if I can get them, cheers mate. The Lady K was disappointed the Cards didn't have an equivalent of the Dillon Panthers "Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose" Mantra from Friday Night Lights :sad2:
On a slightly different note, did you watch Brockmire? With Hank Azaria? Not a documentary and as rude as you like, but funny as ....
I also really like the 30 in 30 NFL films series. Loved the one about Buddy Ryan and the 85 Bears.

Jeff, cheers for all the info, and guys for the extras.
I think we will be C) people, I think the rides will always be there, so just gonna enjoy the characters shows and parades, with a bit of trick or treating. The plan is to get the kids up late that day and have a pool hang at the Poly, and then head over to the park.
That might actually be a selling point for me.
We stayed on a hotel on Big Sur, that had no electric gadgets in the room. It was awesome.
Sounds like it was a great trip. As evidence is the pic you posted on the zonked out kids.
Yeah, the Sunday was great as the parks were empty, and that was our main full day. That really helped with ToT as it was only a 5 minute wait, so he didn't have time to get himself nervous, we walked into the library, straight through and then on the elevator.
How's the PP? Recovering?
I guess we need Southwest to start flying to London.
They would absolutely clean up. Virgin & BA had an absolute lock on the London/MCO route. Norwegian have come in at a more no frills approach and are busier than they can cope with.
