DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Welcome to Wednesday All!

Took the day off yesterday to play a little golf but back in the office today. It's great working in sport sector; you can totally justify two Olympic streams going in my office plus people in the boardroom watching some others.

Ugh. Flight has already been delayed twice, and Frontier will not allow us to change until they cancel the flight. Of course that is now 10pm tonight. Oh, they would let us switch but want us to pay to do that. <sigh>

Hope you made it.

Just a lousy day today. One of my best friends, co-worker for over 25 years, wife had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease a bit back and is heading to Mexico for a 4 week treatment program this weekend not approved in the U.S. So got that on our minds and then to add to that, a co-worker of 16 years just let us know at a staff meeting that he has been diagnosed with liver cancer. He says they have caught it very early and he is starting aggressive treatments next week. Sorry to be a downer but thoughts and prayers for both of these individuals and their families when you get a minute - thanks.

Hope everything works out.

(Just about) Morning chaps, from an overcast London (there you go Wasnotafan)

Been up a 120ft crane this morning, so my job doesn't totally suck. Lovely view of the American embassy and Grovesnor Sq.

Spying on the US?

'Morning all...
Missed a few days 'round here; month-end schedule tends to do that.
Sent the young'en back to school yesterday, so the house is quiet and the fridge seems to have more in it. Still miss him. Well, his momma misses the 4-year-old actually, so for her it's basically the same either way.

Best wishes to the boy. He's a sophomore now isn't he?

Did the DCI Competition go well? Another summer gone and still haven't been in ages.

What did he choose?
Hopefully something acceptably cool like say…
Galactic Emperor Zurg (or some such contrivance).

Sadly, the best he could come up with was George. :sad2:

The school should be good for the kids but SWMBO is already getting bored and is feeling useless and old (the big 50 is coming up later in the year). After 21 years of marriage though I keep my mouth shut.

That’s an interesting job perk.
What are you into that brought you up to such lofty heights?

I do construction/shopfitting. The directors don't like the view from their window, and me and one of the design guys were taking a look at what we could do, as the chairman is moving in. Talk about the definition of dead money.

My Grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee, so I think I am safe. In fact, get out of my country
:lmao:

Certainly not something that could be applied to most job descriptions.
Most certainly not to mine.

Senior

Although given some scheduling difficulties and that he'll need to do at least one semester as an intern somewhere we may be looking at a fifth year.

Excellent show. Right up until the downpour hit...
Lightning forced them to cancel the last three performances (two of which I really wanted to hear) but we did see some great routines.

Pretty much a metaphor for most every senior manager I've encountered.

Man, I learnt that after 21 minutes.
Don't take you long to look at a horseshoe, I see.

Good thing too.

Top O the morn'n Dads! Thank you guys for the positive words and thoughts for my friends going through some tough stuff, as several referenced, does put some things in perspective.

Hard to believe they are seniors in college aint it? Does not seem that long ago that you and I were talking about the two of them heading out. Now we have DS joining his big sister, I'm telling all of you, it goes by too fast so make sure to keep perspective and enjoy all the time you got with the kids.
What a great night at the Olympics. Phelps and Ledecky win over rivals, two Gators win gold on the 4X200 relay and the women’s gymnastics team dominate. These ladies are like diminutive, ninja assassins. One second they would be standing in front of you and the next they would do a back flip over your head and rip out your spinal cord. All the the while smiling and waving to the crowd.
Agree, DD was surprised as I was cheering on Phelps like it was a Notre Dame or Blackhawks game.

Nice on both the golf and the professional sector you are in. I am sure folks around the globe are streaming the events at work bringing the global economy to a slowdown :rotfl:

So, when did disney raise the prices on the resort rooms to cringeworthy levels?

My research has not produced a time when the prices were not at cringeworthy levels.

Man, that's rough. Prayers for both of them.

Went out to work on the deck this morning....
Maybe I can make some headway since last time I tried, I realized I was short one 2x6....
Today I noticed I only have about 6 left of the screws I need.

But how many are loose?

Been up a 120ft crane this morning, so my job doesn't totally suck. Lovely view of the American embassy and Grovesnor Sq.

Sounds like things could be worse.

Best. Description. Ever.:rotfl2:

We need to quit the "life of CJ" posts and start talking about retiring to live the "life of Darcy".

I do construction/shopfitting.

I read this too fast at first and thought it said "shoplifting". :rotfl:

The directors don't like the view from their window, and me and one of the design guys were taking a look at what we could do, as the chairman is moving in. Talk about the definition of dead money.

Sounds like the solution is to knock down all of the other buildings.

I think it was the threat of getting hit with the horseshoe that focused my attention.

I'll suggest it, knocking down the front building of Selfridges is a gutsy call. I like the cut of your jib, my man.

I read this too fast at first and thought it said "shoplifting". :rotfl:
:thumbsup2
Only when I can get away with it. Wanna buy a half used crane?

Senior
Although given some scheduling difficulties and that he'll need to do at least one semester as an intern somewhere we may be looking at a fifth year...

:faint:

::yes::

Indeed. The only trip that I could possibly call inexpensive was my first. It was a graduation present for my wife and I from the in-laws but it was where my username came from. Rather like the Dark Island in Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

So then we could categorize this as being fairly normal for a household project then?
Certainly sounds like most of the tasks I try to get started on.

It got worse.
Went to the store. I need... oh, probably less than a a couple dozen screws. But it's for composite so they have to be specific screws.
I find them. Smallest lot is several hundred for $45. Nope!
Go to the next store.... they don't carry them. Used to. Don't know why they stopped.

So I have several hundred very expensive screws that I hope to use up sometime in my lifetime.

That’s an interesting job perk.

That was my question too. See it's been answered.

One second they would be standing in front of you and the next they would do a back flip over your head and rip out your spinal cord. All the the while smiling and waving to the crowd.

It's the smiling that sends shivers down my now spineless back.

But how many are loose?

Just one. Same as you.

Happy Olympic Day 7. Right now I have some golf and rowing showing in my office, feel free to stop by.

Overcast day here with level 1 and 2 heat alerts, just had a thunderstorm/tornado warning for just north of us. Should be an interesting day.

Keep your head down... oh... wait... you're already doing that watching the Olympics.

Nevermind.

Overcast but fine day here today. Took the bike to work.... so that means it'll probably rain.

‘Morning all…
Our young’en is settled in back on campus now. He sent me the details for the extra travel/participation fees and other expenses that come out of pocket on top of the tuition…

There’s another grand instantly evaporated from the savings accounts…

<<sigh>>

Frighteningly quick…
Sets one to thinking about the limits on our own time as well.
The Mrs. and I need to find something else to occupy some of our time outside the house.
(being as we no longer need to spend it running the boy’s life anymore)

I think it was the threat of getting hit with the horseshoe that focused my attention.
Horseshoes… frying pans…
Dangerous weapons in the hands of an expert
(who has no compunction toward using them).

It’s a conspiracy, I tell you!
I’ve got similar collections of supplies stowed away from what should have been simple projects that turned into a quartermaster’s dilemma.

Absolutely. Rumour has it they have been stealing U's from perfectly well-spelt words for years.
Yep…
Been dropping H’s off the end of places names for near as long as well.
Ain’t pronouncing ‘em, don’t need ‘em.
Might be about time to go after some of those residual Middle English K’s that even y’all don’t bother to pronounce any more .

Not a bad idea…
Beats what’s on the viewers in my office (which is nothing)

Also illustrates that if someone from the US truly wants to “see” the Olympics…
They need to find a way to watch the feed from some other nation’s broadcasts.
Best as I can tell form our coverage, you’d be forgiven for believing that there are only about two and half different sporting events that ever take place during the whole of the gathering.
