DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Top O the Morning Dads! Pretty good weekend and hope you all had one as well.

Thanks guys. Her tournament run came to an end with a loss of 1-6, 3-6. After Match 1 and a 5 hour wait in the heat (although we did go to the mall for AC for some of it), she was tired and her mechanics were off. She figured it out in the 2nd set, but didn't have enough energy left. Plus, she paid a pusher (or lobber) and couldn't figure out how to adjust to that style of play. Parents aren't allowed to coach in tournaments. And, while this wasn't a sanctioned tournament and I could have gotten away with it, I wouldn't be able to the next time. They do permit a coach in team tennis settings, but not individual tournaments. That's something else that makes tennis different than the other sports.
Sorry to hear about the second match but not bad getting a win for her. That time gap is too much to overcome especially with the heat.
Morning Guys,

Had the IN-laws over for brunch this morning. Free range eggs, bacon fresh from the farm, baked beans, homemade raisin bread, homemade rhubarb-strawberry jam and coffee. Now I'm sitting on the deck with more coffee watching my FIL mow our lawn. Life's good!
Well done - you cannot beat getting someone, let alone FIL, cutting grass for you.
Morning all. 8 more days until I am in Disney. :)

Of course I still have 5 more days of work, and Capital budget items are due this week, so I have a ton of work. <sigh>

Tell me about it, with 8 work days left....
I have 3 x tenders to award and arrange so the work starts as soon as I get back from Orlando, a team tunnel with 2 escalators which opens while I am away that changes the way 3500 people come in the building, and a £5M project to get off the ground. Fun times.
Less than 2 weeks from WDW guys, can't beat that! Enjoy your short countdowns gentlemen and do not stress too much over the day job stuff.

Sorry about the grad school checks and feel your pain as paying fall semester for two just made me shake my head. Stay safe with this potential Zika thing in Miami.

Just made the payment to the University of Miami. Now that hurts but not as much as paying for two. Zika is here I guess, they had a few non-travel cases pop up near downtown.

Happy New Brunswick Day Guys!

Enjoy. So what do you have during the festivities? Stew?

Hi, Guys!

I'm just popping in to say my weekend was a little insane. It turns out, i have a long lost cousin!
Through a series of Facebook messages and texts, it's a boy. I mean, he's 36, and we didn't know he existed until Friday,

But my uncle and all of my cousins (there are 17 on that side of the family) are all pretty excited!

This is the type of thing that happens on tv shows - not to people you know, and especially not to YOU... but it did!

Hey Guys! Been a busy couple of weeks. The financial stuff is done and I get to slow down for a few weeks. Hopefully get to follow along a little more. Hope all are well.

Painted both kids rooms over the weekend. DS now has a Boston Celtics themed room. It came out really good. I'll try to post pick later. DD just has gray walls right now to match the first Death Star. Planning on decorating with Star Wars theming, but still trying to coordinate.

Congrats on the first round win and looks like the start of a good career. Maybe you'll get away without paying for college after all.:rolleyes1 You may want to teach her not to pay the pusher though. Bad habit to get into. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

A little jealous I have to admit. I hope you have great trips. It would seem the summer crowds are lower than typical and making it a little easier on the planning.

Happy New Brunswick Day Guys! At least that's what it is here and why we have the day off.

Maybe you can use it as your excuse for a day off. ;)

Enjoy the day off!

It must be killing you writing a check the the U.:scared: Good luck to PP as she heads into the next phase.

The Zika stuff is getting a little scary. A lot of stories int he news about it spreading and how quickly it will move from one area to the next. keep those little blood suckers away.

Looks like it's a no go for the Pats/Miami again this year. Coming to DDCC on the 3rd and with the game on the 1st would mean fly home to repack and fly back.....And DW said no.:sad1: There's always next year.

Congrats on the new family member! My SIL searched and found a sister a few years back. She went to visit and connect. Unfortunately, it turned out that the sister didn't want to maintain contact. Sounds like your cousin is excited to get to know the family so that should be a great experience for all.

It worked. I took the day off. :lmao:

Well, it was a sick day for an orthodontist appointment for dd, but it's kinda like the same thing. :furious:

Sounds like several of you have lots of work. Hope you don't stress too much and enjoy your trip. Been a lazy day for me - cut my hair, went to gym, played tennis, laundry, now here at Dr., and need to go grocery shopping.

I'm tired typing all that. :lmao:

Sorry to hear about the second match but not bad getting a win for her. That time gap is too much to overcome especially with the heat.

Thanks. She was harder on herself than I was.

?

Do you ever get to stop paying for her education? I told mine I'm helping with the undergrad tuition, but they are on their own for graduate. Unless I win the lotto that is.

l.

Thanks. It would be cool if she could get a div 1 scholarship. I don't think she's that talented, but I'll keep working with her. The challenge is how hard to push as a coach vs a dad. Thankfully, my coaching is free. Problem is that she gets what she paid for. :lmao:

Sounds great... except for the in-laws part.

Now I'm sitting on the deck with more coffee watching my FIL mow our lawn. Life's good!

Hmmm.... Not sure if that makes up for him being over.
How big's your lawn?

It's called "Civic Holiday" here.
I wanted to get a little bit of the deck finished.... realized immediately that I was missing a 2X6... and everything's closed.
So cleaned the bathroom instead. yippee. Now I'm at work.

It's called "Civic Holiday" here.
In other Holiday news, I now have to walk past the new Xmas section in the store every time I go to a meeting. Ho Ho Ho. I haven't even had my summer vacation yet.

FIL is a good guy, he cuts our lawn all the time. He likes to use his ride-on. It would take a little over an hour if I used a push mower.

Mother Nature is putting on a show tonight. Most are cloud to cloud lightning but more than a few are hitting ground targets. A close one woke me up. Pretty cool.

Always cool to watch!

'Morning all...
It was game night in our house yesterday.
Which means we ended up at a local "pub" for beer, food and seven or eight rounds of trivia.
The reuben I had was quite tasty and a Newcastle draft ain't bad for mass produced suds.
Net result: tied for 4th place. Not bad; we've won it before but the categories don't always go in ones favor.
Just one tough round and you may not be able to catch back up.
Apparently I need to study up on the history of April Fools Day.

That's.... sick.
Yup... That's sick

I wonder what would happen if we all just took one Christmas off without buying a single thing.
Just reflect on the time and family instead.

Yeah, it ain't happening, but a cynic can wonder.

After near a month the rain and storms final got back to our neck of the woods as well.
It broke the heat wave a mite but obviously the humidity is still gawd-awful.

What a start to Tuesday. Try to leave my subdivision where the road has been closed for construction the last month, and they decide to start the asphalt at 7:30 AM. Great idea, because no one leaves to go to work at 8. :furious:

I finally get done waiting and drive over it only to be almost crushed by a semi at the stop light who decided not to yield on a left turn at a green light. :furious:

I get to the office in all the fog and don't have Internet access. So, I can't do anything here at all today until it is fixed. :furious:

Where is the reset button for today?

Cleaning the bathroom. :headache:

If DW lets me (and she won't), I'll have the bathroom at the next house with a drain in the floor, standing shower (no tub), no wood trim or cabinets, and just use the water hose to spray everything off and push the water down the floor drain.

In other Holiday news, I now have to walk past the new Xmas section in the store every time I go to a meeting. Ho Ho Ho. I haven't even had my summer vacation yet.

Well, it is the next holiday to start selling for......other than Halloween, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, and Thanksgiving.

FIL is a good guy, he cuts our lawn all the time. He likes to use his ride-on. It would take a little over an hour if I used a push mower.

My FIL retired and offered to cut mine as he hauls around the flatbed and riding mower. He couldn't get inside my fence though and won't trim, but it's a great idea. Unfortunately, he cuts on his schedule which is whenever he feels like it. So, I usually just push mow it. It takes me about an hour to do so and trim.

Afternoon chaps, from an overcast Birmingham. Kicking my heels waiting for a train, but good day at the office. Hope all is well in the Disdad world.
