DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Took a little hiatus there. Another day off!!! And I'm not going in tomorrow for sure. Ahhhhhh...

Didn't read all the back chatter. Bacon for all (that solves everything, right?)

SWMBO and I visited Field of Dreams when we lived in Iowa.

Cool.

It looked better in the movie. The neighbors owned different parts of the field and weren't overly friendly to each other.

A feel good movie about people coming together results in... uh... not so much coming together.

Sounds like good father-son time. SWMBO and I visited Field of Dreams when we lived in Iowa. It looked better in the movie. The neighbors owned different parts of the field and weren't overly friendly to each other.

Yes, those movies make it look really easy. In the real world, that's why there are fences, guns, and police. :lmao:

DDCC5 coming to a place near you. Starring many of the coolest DisDads

Featuring a guest appearance from Carl? :lmao:

Morning/afternoon from England chaps.... Only 4 hours to go in the work week over here, then all weekend building a climbing frame. Good news is off the Disneyland Paris at the end of next week, and then the countdown to Florida begins. Soccer season finished last week, so I now have a backlog of jobs from DW to get through...

To O the Mornin Dads! Graduation day here today. Get through the day in a good place and enjoy your weekends.
This day in Disney history - Tom Sawyer Island Rafts open at the Magic Kingdom in 1973.

Happy Friday everyone! The one day where everyone is happy: co-workers are happy to not see you for 48 hours and family is happy to see you all day for 2 days.

Good morning from rainy Savannah. Had a late start getting out of New Jersey and stopped off at Williamsburg late two nights ago. Spent a couple of hours in the morning at Colonial Williamsburg. Changed a lot since the last time we were there. Everything is funneled to a big visitors center. (Would have let you know we were there Don but we were only there that night and a few hours in the morning). Rained all the way down here. What a pain.

After leaving Sister-in-law early tomorrow morning, we hit Orlando next. One night off site then three days at the Poly. Nothing planned and we won't have tickets. Guess it is just eating and relaxing.

Happy Friday everyone and enjoy the weekend.

I'll be there with the kid. Have to look up my dates so I can post them.

Two days off? What did you do, build an addition to the house?

Happy travels. When are you hitting Florida?

Wish I could go! I had a blast just getting to spend a couple of hours with the dads there this year. Definitely worth doing if you can.

Good meeting you too Andy.

To O the Mornin Dads! Graduation day here today.

Congrats.

August 13 -20 in GF, and then a week in Anna Maria Island. The Poly looks awesome, DW & I are talking about it for 2017, let me know what you think.

Happy Friday Guys! A quiet weekend for the most part. Hoping to get a few minutes to say hi to Darcy and Declan this weekend. DD has a hoop tourney as well.

DS High school team won 5-2 yesterday. DS had the game winning RBI (2 actually) and made a great play in the 7th to end it. Just signed him up for 4 day a week physical training all summer. He has lost almost 10 pounds over the last couple of weeks and is really committed to getting into shape and getting to that next level in sports. We'll see how it goes.

The plans (and DW permission8-)) are to be there this year for my first DDCC. DD and I plan to run the 5K and then have a nice weekend visiting with the DisDads. Of course I'm still waiting for the calendar to open so I can book the rooms and flights, but still better than not planning to be there.:thumbsup2

You'll be missed. Was hoping to say hi. How are the plantings going this year.

:welcome:

Definitely worth doing if you can.

When and where? Although I'll probably not be able to.... but you never know.

This day in Disney history - Tom Sawyer Island Rafts open at the Magic Kingdom in 1973.

Had an interesting conversation with DD15 about those.
"Look Kay. Rafts."
"Those aren't rafts Dad."
"Sure they are."
"No. Rafts don't have engines."

Looked it up. This from Wiki: "are typically not propelled by an engine"

rotten kid.

Happy Friday everyone! The one day where everyone is happy

Not me. Back to work tomorrow... first day with a new trainee, too.

Two days off? What did you do, build an addition to the house?

 I wish? No, the new pup kept interrupting every time I tried to do anything.
Got a bit done on the deck, but not nearly as much as I'd hoped.

August 13 -20 in GF

Be prepared for heat. Circles of Hades type heat... well, okay. I'm exaggerating... Think hotter.

You'll be missed. Was hoping to say hi. How are the plantings going this year.
Pretty dang slow, actually. On a normal year, we'd normally be done or close to done by now.

Yesterday was actually the first full day we could work. We just keep getting rain... not huge amounts, but when the ground is already wet, an overcast day with .2" can pretty much stop work for another 2 or 3 days. We've got about 250 acres planted now, but there's rain moving in this afternoon.

Aw shucks, I would have loved to get to meet another DisDad. I'm just about 30 minutes down the road from CW. We spend a lot of time up there during the summer.

Here's to hoping the weather improves and the rain only comes when needed. We had a good couple of weeks where it rained every day, no sun just rain and clouds. It was pretty depressing. The last 2 weeks have been pretty good here and today is mid 70's, dry and a perfect spring day. Glad we got out of the rut. Now it's your turn.

Never stayed at Anna Marie Island but a lot of places around there. Nice area. Good beaches, interesting food, sun and sand... Stayed at a Poly studio a couple of months ago. There was still some construction on the quiet pool area which was by the building where I was staying. Love the Poly and the new DVC rooms had a nice layout. Can't wait to see it with the construction done with.

Safe travels! Enjoy the dad/daughter time. I could use a few days at the Poly to just relax.

That is my plan. Packing 4 years of accumulated crap to haul or ship home did a number on my back. Pool bar here I come.

It is too bad. Plan was to spend a couple of days there, go to CW one day and Bush Gardens another. It just didn't work out. The kid and I both enjoy CW. Didn't do much but we did eat lunch at the Shields Tavern before leaving. Found a coupon for the Comfort Suites for $62 which was a great deal.

A wet, rainy Friday here, but still Friday.

There's DDCC 12 for me.

Unless you have a teenage daughter. Then, 2 days with her makes you want to go back to work.

A nice, quiet stay at a Disney resort sounds terrific.

Congrats to him in the effort. Mail any of that extra effort down to my girls as they seem to use up all their effort fighting each other. :sad1:

Would like some heat. DW turned on the heat the other night because it fell below 65 in the house.

These two comments are funny mostly because I can relate all too well.

Cheers for the tip pkondz, a splash of sunscreen would be in order then, yes?
Last time we were in that sort of heat DW ended up in the room for about 6 days with heatstroke, being the english rose that she is, so basically we flew 3500 miles to watch 3 year old movies in a hotel room in the caribbean. At least the view was nice from the window.

First post here. Just figured I would drop in and say hi. Here's to hoping some of you are at WDW this weekend and having fun for the rest of us...

Didn't realize you guys had so much wet. Been really dry up here.

Ain't it the truth!

Air conditioning and liquids are your best friends.

That sucks. Hopefully it'll be better this time round.
