DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning gents.
I GOT A DAY OFF!
Scheduled for two more... but I ain't counting those chickens yet.

So... what am I doing on my day off? Sitting on the porch with a glass of lemonade with my feet up and a good book?

Almost! Carrying back breakingly heavy crap up from the basement. Mitre saw, hose reel, sump pump, tools, pool chemicals....

I think I'd rather be at work.
Nice on the day off but sorry to hear about what sounds like a honey-do-list.
We actually had a girl run off the field when the ball was hit to her. Still not really sure where she was going.:confused3
:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I recently watched a YouTube walk-through of the new Disney Spring marketplace. What a change! Have any of you guys walked through there yet? Looks like another outlet to me. $$$$$

Yeah, I am guessing this is becoming more of a place to keep the international travelers close to the parks. I mean, I could go to most of these stores by my house, I don't go to these stores, as I don't have the money to shop there, but I could walk into them. :)

I'm trying to avoid the area as it will mean that I just have to spend more money. :lmao:

We used to go down to Fulton's Crab House, but then there were just so many other options, we just stopped and stayed by our home resort.

Just say no to projects. I set the bar low before we were married on doing projects. Thus, I have escaped most of them.
Well, most of these are projects I started. We moved into a kind of fixer-upper house. There is a bonus room connected to the living room that is still just studs, i'm halfway through building a fire pit, working on a patio and deck to go off the bonus room (right now it's just a mud pit). Oh and the constant landscaping. Most of the small bushes original to the house had turned into two story trees that i get the pleasure of managing now. I've got most of them down to stumps, but got to take all of those out now.

It looks really nice, but it also looks like a glorified mall for the wealthy. None of those stores in the video appealed to me at all. That being said, we'll of course go and see it on our next trip.

Sounds like my days off. I need to rest up after when I get back in the office.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

::yes::

BOOOOOO!!! :sad2: Go relax, would ya???

What is this "relax" that you speak of?

Re-read that last line.

No, you wouldn't.

Take it easy on that back.

You're right... I wouldn't.

And trying to. Ain't easy.

I hear you! Every day I'm not working at the office, I'm just working at home. Sooo many home projects that need to get done.

::yes::

Just say no to hard work.

I wish! Gotta finish that deck, though.

Nice on the day off but sorry to hear about what sounds like a honey-do-list.

Got the sump in and hooked up. Got the reel reinstalled. Even did a bit of work on the deck... until the puppy started howling for attention.

I don't need to buy stuff... but some of the new restaurants/bars look good.

Good Morning.:wave2: Almost the weekend again. Just keep swimming.

Oh my. That's very strange, indeed! Maybe the sun was in her eyes? Sorry to hear about the loss.

Our Monday night city league double header ended much worse than that. At the top of the last inning I ended up taking out our shortstop when we collided trying to field a fly to left center. I called it... he didn't listen... blammo. My shin caught the side of his left knee and he went down hard. He ended up leaving on a golf cart to the hospital. We lost first game by 1 run. Second game I believe the final was 24 - 2... we lost. Heads just weren't into it after the injury.

Ouch! Knee injuries are one of the worst things. Hope it wasn't serious. Well at least you called it. How's the shin? That can't feel that great either.

24-2 sounds more like a football game.:scratchin Losing 2 in one night is definitely not a good night on the fields. Hopefully there was a lot of drinking after to help the mood.

Yikes! DS's team had a similar ugly game this week. We had a game Monday and lost 14-0. We play 3 innings and one player was pretty much single handedly responsible for 8 of the 9 outs. He was playing first base... jumping to catch balls, laying out to catch them and still keeping his toe on the bag, coming off the bag to catch the ball and tag the runner coming down the line. I mean this kid could not only catch the ball, he knew the skills needed to play 1B. With 4, 5, 6 year olds, most teams are just looking for that one kid who isn't afraid of the ball and will at least knock it down, then pick it up and try to get the out before the runner makes it there. We play a couple of kids there that catch one every once in a while and I thought we were in great shape. Like you said, there's always someone else who's better...

The worst part though was that the coaches moved him to SS for the third inning. We got 3 runners on base and were feeling pretty good about erasing that 0. Then we had a line out to short for a double play followed by another line out. I swear that we were playing with a steel ball and he had magnets in his glove.

Funny how the baseball gods work. If you have someone that can't catch, Murphy says the ball shall go to that player at any and every critical point of the game. If your opponent has a great player, the ball goes to him all the time. I can't tell you how many times that is the case. Sorry about the loss.

I know it's a long way off and who knows what happens before then. Having gone through it with DS, the adjustment to the big diamond around 13/14 is a really big step for most kids-even the ones that were stars all the way through little league. DS was a pretty good little league player, but thrived once on the bigger diamond. He has a strong arm and reads the ball really well. A lot of the kids that were supposed to be the best and were the top kids in LL, couldn't adjust and are bench players or not even playing anymore. Good luck to DS! I hope he keeps the desire to play baseball. It's a fun sport if you like it. The one tip I will give you is to throw "long toss" as much as possible with him. That builds arm strength more than any other exercise when it comes to baseball. The bonus is a lot of Dad/Son time that I cherish to this day. A lot of parents complain about their teens and how they become somewhat distant. My son and I play catch at least twice a week where we get to just relax and talk about things. We also watch Field of Dreams at least once a month, but that's another story.:goodvibes

Top O the Mornin Dads! Speaking of Disney Springs, two weeks from today me and DS head to DaWorld and I am already "checked out". In addition to this trip have a 3 day weekend this weekend with DS HS graduation, then another extended weekend for Memorial Day with family coming in as it is MIL 80th birthday. I was at DS for a bit last month when there for a convention and Jock Lindsey's and that area were pretty cool. Walls were still up around the Town Center but from the pictures I've seen it looks cool but the stores seem like the same stuff we have at the local mall :confused3

We'll of course walk through and take a look next time we are there. Not sure how much we'll actually buy. We typically don't "shop" while at Disney unless it is Disney related. No need to buy things we can get at home. It looks really nice though.

I am sure we will try some of the restaurants. We like to try different things and experiences.

Sounds like a busy few weeks. Congrats to DS son on graduation! Wish him luck from all 800+ DisUncles.:-)

I'm usually checked out a week or two before as well. The DDCC in January is already creeping into the back of my mind and it's only May.:rolleyes1 Hoping to get there before then, but with school, sports and the expense we'll see.

We're going to be staying at SSR our first night of our upcoming trip. We're planning on eating at Ragland Road. Hoping I can manage to keep the spending to a minimum.

I've still got over 5 months and I feel like checking out!

June 17th!! :fish:

Yes, they are. Still haven't heard any news about the outcome of the dr visit. Praying it is a simple injury and recovers quickly. As for my shin... it's sore, but considering the damage cause by it I'm shocked there is no major bruising/soreness. Still feel bad that it happened.

24-2 sounds more like a football game.:scratchin Losing 2 in one night is definitely not a good night on the fields. Hopefully there was a lot of drinking after to help the mood.

Yeah... it was pretty depressing watching the other team cross home plate that many times. They even started switch hitting just to see if they could hit the ball! Lol. No drinks after... just ice and Bengay.

Good luck trying to get through the next few weeks.... they sound pretty painful there with those 3 day weekends in the way :lmao: And yes, the place looks really nice, but I doubt I'd buy anything there either. Seems pretty uppity to me.

Haven't even used the new system to book a FastPass, but I do wonder if they are moving forward or backwards on the time change? Seems to me you have to wait an additional 7 hours from the old way. West coast folks get the bum deal on this move.

Hey fellas, how long does it typically take to get from MCO to your resort using MDE? Our flight arrives at 4:30PM and we've got ADRs at Raglan Road at 7:00PM. Is that going to be too tight? We're staying at SSR.

2.5 hours, you should be OK. The times we took ME, it was never more than 90 minutes from arrival to the bus and to the resort. We have never gone around what could be rush hour though. Maybe others have experience at that time of the day.

A happy Thursday morning. Only one more day for the weekend. I get to spend the next week on campus and the following week on vacation. Two weeks out of the office is a good thing.

Well, most of these are projects I started. We moved into a kind of fixer-upper house.
.

We had our home built in a builder's subdivision, so not many projects for me. I like the appearance of older homes, but not the maintenance.

I wish! Gotta finish that deck, though.
.

Work only has to be finished if you think there is work to be finished. :yoda:

Enjoy the family time. Not sure I checked in this week.

Afternoon All,

Hope everyone is doing well.

Only a couple of hours left in the work week for me, unfortunately that includes a meeting. Seems that's all I've been doing this week, including a day long mediation session yesterday. (Beer tasted real good at the end of the day.) This time tomorrow we will be well on our way to Boston for a basketball tournament.

Have a good one!

I love the long toss idea.

Unfortunately, if he's any good he'll be able to out long toss me before long.

I always caught in little league and I developed a quick but short throwing motion that really wasn't what it should be. Basically I could get the ball from the plate to second with about a half throwing motion. Looking back it was bad, but it was effective for a little league catcher and therefore nobody ever worked with me to expand my range of motion and throw over the top.

When I was a freshman playing on the high school team, I was over 6' tall and I had a coach that felt I was built more to be a pitcher than a catcher and tried to undo several years of bad habits.

After that failed project I locked down first base for the rest of my baseball career. :rotfl2:

And actually, when I play softball now, I typically always play 1B.

Oh, he can easily out throw me and laughs at me all the time. :headache::mad::mad: At least I can take pride in being the one that helped him out do me.

I usually play 1B in softball as well:)..........At least until last year when I tore my bicep tendon in my left arm fielding a ground ball down the line:scared:. Surgery and 6 months of rehab and recovery. We'll see where I go this year. Will probably stick with first and back waaaaayyyyy up when a leftie gets up there.:rolleyes1

Sounds like good father-son time. SWMBO and I visited Field of Dreams when we lived in Iowa. It looked better in the movie. The neighbors owned different parts of the field and weren't overly friendly to each other.
