DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Made it safe and sound in NJ last night. Thought I would be out when my head hit the pillow but NO, I'm up at 3am. Seeing the kid this morning where the packing will begin. The boyfriend is getting commissioned today and she asked if I wanted to go. Well, let me think about that.... NOOOOOOOO!

Will try to catch up on the musings I missed here later today. If not, everyone have a great Friday.

Glad to hear you made it there ok. Sorry to hear you had trouble getting some sleep. Good luck with all the packing. Wonder how many things get left on the curb after parents come pick their kids up? lol.

Good afternoon from the Garden State. Was able to take a snooze before the sun came up so feel OK now. Left the boxes off and we had breakfast together. Last time I saw her was when I dropped her at the airport marathon weekend. She is with BF's family for the rest of the day so nothing left to do today. Expect you all to show up tomorrow to help with the move.

Welcome back to the east coast. Have fun packing. Congrats again to President Crash.

I'll tell her although the only thing I think she may be President of is the Sierra Club.

You could always come hang out in Delaware instead...

Once again I crossed the Delaware Memorial Bridge and lived to tell about it. Also the bridge before you get to Delaware. You know the one, it has the warning sign right before you cross "High Winds could cause your car to be blown off the bridge and plunge you to your death in the 1,000 foot gorge" It is also the one with a 2 foot high guardrail that wouldn't stop a soap box derby racer going 5 mph.

Delaware does have an outstanding visitors center though.

For those new to this, I have a thing about bridges. Completely rational since they do fall down all the time. Two of my top three most hated bridges are on the drive from Miami to NJ, the one in Jacksonville and the double hit in Delaware.

What I am researching is the Disney springs hotels, as they look very affordable, have shuttles to the parks, or we could use Uber if we don't want to wait. Anyone stayed at one of them before?

Travel day I sometimes stay at one of the Springs' hotels. They are affordable and nice hotels. Never took the busses but I have heard they can be an issue. Since your wife is a teacher you may want to check out Swan/Dolphin. They sometimes have discounts for teachers, first responders... Worth a shot and you get Disney perks. Not sure about ME though.

Welcome to Friday! last day of sun here before a weekend of rain.

Enjoy your time in NJ. (Has anyone said that before?) ;)

Pulling into NJ yesterday is was sunny and 80 degrees. Today rainy and chilly. Graduation morning it is supposed to be in the 40's. Oh Goody.

After tomorrow things should be fun (except the weather). One of her Professors wants to go out to breakfast on Sunday, then there is the President's reception on the Green. The afternoon is the awards ceremony where she gets her cum laud tassel. Going to dinner with her roommate and her parents. Finally, graduation on Monday. The bad thing is Auntie comes into town on Sunday.

Good to hear you made it safe and good luck with the packing. Commissioned, as in military?

He is commissioned 2nd Lt. in the Army Reserve.

Glad to hear you made it there ok. Sorry to hear you had trouble getting some sleep. Good luck with all the packing. Wonder how many things get left on the curb after parents come pick their kids up? lol.

Thanks Don. I imagine a lot. If it was up to me, a lot of her stuff would be on the curb.

Howdy dads.
Life has been crazy around here 'cause you know... life
I have tried to check in a couple times but no way am I going to go back and try to catch up so...

Welcome to the new dads; prayers for those who need it; bacon to those who deserve it; and beer for everyone.

Did we lose the new guys who were going to try and read all the dad boards since the beginning?

Quick update on my brood, oldest DD is struggling to get caught up so she can move to the 11th grade next year. She missed a full 6 weeks while she was in the hospital, but i think at this point the teachers are just gonna pass her so they don't have to deal with her next year too.
On the other hand my youngest is testing next week to be in Gifted and Talented next year so she would start the 4th grade in advanced classes and start working on STEAM projects.

I cant remember if I posted here or not when it happened but we got another dog. He was abandoned on the side of the road so we took him in; I tried to get my wife to put him up for adoption but she wouldn't listen because he was soooo small an sooo cute. Yeah, he was only about 6 weeks old when we got him, now he is almost 100lbs and can look over my head when he stands on his hind legs; and he is not even 1yo yet. Vet thinks he is a St Bernard/Lab/Pyrenees mix and is about 10mos old based on his teeth. He will be around 180-200lbs when he finishes growing. My 70lb Bull Terrier/Catahoula mix is not happy with the decision to keep him.

I have not noticed him in quite a while. I think he joined right before me. Maybe he's still busy reading?

Wow, good luck to both of them.

I thought in the FB article you posted, it said she was President of her school environmental club and organized something. My reading comprehension isn't that good either, so maybe not. If so, once your president, then the news calls them that forever afterwards.

Sorry to hear about DD hospital - hope she is all recovered.

Move almost complete. We dropped 3 large boxes at the post office and one huge suitcase and a box are in the trunk. Most of the packing is done, she has another suitcase to fill and a couple of boxes one more maybe to be mailed. My back is killing me and I am beat. Checked into the Courtyard. Nice hotel with a jacuzzi that has my name on it. Tomorrow, early morning breakfast, President's reception and then an awards ceremony. Also, Auntie gets in town. I was hoping someone hijacked her plane.

Howdy dads.

Wow man, that is tough for your oldest. Hope she is fully recovered and gets back on tract. Also congrats to you younger daughter, good for her.

said she was President of her school environmental club and organized something.

Your reading comprehension is fine and you are correct. Blame my lapse on old age.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend guys.

Morning all.
Been wayyyyy too busy to be here last few days, so catching up.
Only three more shifts (counting today) and then I might get a day off!!!
It's been a month since my last one, I wonder what it'll be like?

The boyfriend is getting commissioned today and she asked if I wanted to go. Well, let me think about that.... NOOOOOOOO!

:lmao:

Called Disney, but they want over $800.00 for the extra two days.

 No. Just. No.

Also, Frontier was very good to us, they said since the time change was over 3 hours, they would do all of the changes for free, and were very easy to work with.(And like I said, they gave us 50 bucks in vouchers that I think we can use for luggage, so bonus bags to take back.)

Not bad.

Expect you all to show up tomorrow to help with the move.

Darn, missed out on the nice invite.
So would've been there.

Did we lose the new guys who were going to try and read all the dad boards since the beginning?

Well, don't know if I qualify as a new guy still, but...
I read half of the first post and promptly gave up.

Congrats?

Holy crap.

Double holy crap!

Good morning all. I have coffee and sunshine....now if I could get my wife to fry up that thick-cut bacon, how grand that would be! My 4yo asked for doughnuts...couldn't resist, even tho I don't eat them. Something about Gluten and Sugar

Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers. I will let her know The Dads are pulling for her.

Congrats?
No, no congrats for the new dog. I didnt want him, still dont but he has adopted DD9 so he is not going anywhere.
He loves the girls, when one of them is sick he will go and lay down next to their bed until they get better. And he whines and does laps around the house looking for them when they are gone.

Cut out the middle man.
Fry em up yourself. Eat it all.

Happy Sunday. May have picked up a new side job gig - details to be provided later. Worked out and played tennis this AM. Watching Heat at Raptors. Will be going to Mass at 5:30 PM. It is good day.

Ok. You never know what I think I may have misread. :lmao:

You can always find a 2nd job to keep you busy on your day off. :sad2:

Some of the highlights from DD's 9th B'day party yesterday.

Thats me with my oldest DD in our Force Awakens shirts after we finished decorating.

Happy Birthday to her. You don't look like a mailman. :rotfl:

Mmmmm....bacon stuffed donuts.

Hello Dads. So, an interesting observation at my house this past weekend. DD16 instead of the usual "party at a friend's house" decides to stay in Friday night and study biology and then Saturday night stays in to work on her resume to start applying for summer jobs. So those of you just entering the teenage years with your kids, have faith, eventually they do grow up! (Well, most anyway. The others just become DIS Dads :P)

Morning Men!

Played soccer last night, another 2-2 draw. I have been moved to a wing position in the midfield instead of my usual spot on the back line. Man there is a lot of running on the wing!

Cold, rainy day up here north of the border and I get to start the day at the dentist. Good times!

Hope everyone had a good weekend.
