DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Happy Thursday. It is now 10 more days to WDW. These past few weeks have just slowed to a standstill. I am so looking forward to this trip.

You just sit there and stamp your forms, sonny, and quit wasting my time.

Did you get rejected again already?

Anyway, we might adopt children when ours are a little older, but I am so happy with just augmenting our kids with pets as needed to fill the void, so I hope my wife is as well. :) Plus I like going to Disney too much to have more kids and with my ability only to spawn girl babies, weddings to pay for in the future. :)
!!!!

No more children or pets for me. I wouldn't mind to do a salt water fish tank, but that is still a maybe. I'd rather just live close enough to Epcot to go look at the aquarium in the seas.

It a last day of the work week Thursday!!

For me as well. Have a good weekend.

With the talk of beach vs pool, my annual PSA on the dangers of rip tides. Two visitors jumped into the water yesterday on a beach with rip tide warnings and only one made it out. Barely. The East Coast of Florida with nothing to stop winds between here and Africa is susceptible to rip tides. Pay attention to any warnings on the beach.

Some tips. Number 5 is really important.

I had salt water tank for years. Beautiful and fun but a lot of work.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Got back in town yesterday from Chi town trip with DS and back in the office today to get caught up on things and looking forward to a nice 3 day weekend.
It a last day of the work week Thursday!!
Same here - enjoy the break!

Morning Men!

Sorry to hear about the phone. As for the beach, I'm with you and would rather be at wdw. Still, we get the week there in April, so a beach trip is a cheaper and still enjoyable. I think we are going to try a kayak trip if my knee can bend enough to fit inside one. VBR is a dvc resort and points cheap that time of year.

Kayaking is a lot of fun. If it's in the ocean, they are usually not enclosed. You sit on top of the kayak so should be easy on the knee. We used to take the old enclosed ones in the ocean. Big waves tend to fill it up and you start sinking. Learned that the hard way. We switched over to the ocean ones and they work much better.

Sad news that Joe Garagiola passed away today. You young pups probably don't know of him but he was a former catcher and baseball broadcaster. Before cable (yes, there was something before cable) he was a fixture on NBC's game of the week. Funny guy with great baseball knowledge and stories. Interesting trivia was he grew up just down the street from Yogi Berra. There must have been something in that pasta that made baseball players.

Well, not one to pass up a good set up......Before cable was like 50 years ago.:scared: Boy you are getting older.:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

May his legacy live on and prayers for the family.

One Word, "Grandkids!"

Noooooooo! You should know better than to scream that G word when most of us have teenage girls. Take it back!:scared::scared: It's like yelling "fire" in a movie theater and should be punishable by having to buy all the dads a dole whip.

It a last day of the work week Thursday!!

Me too! Good Friday and DS 16th birthday tomorrow. I had plans for bacon wrapped fillet, fingerling potatoes and Asparagus. :yay::yay: DW called and reminded me it's good Friday:eek::confused::confused:.:confused3:confused3 Now it looks like pizza as it's a no meat day and I have to push the fillets to Saturday.

I always feel like the last couple of weeks goes by really fast. Usually trying to get everything ready and end up last minute packing.

I vote for the close enough to Epcot. We had a salt water tank for a while. It was definitely more work than you want to undertake, especially with having to run all those wires across CJ's yard.

Enjoy the weekend!

Looking forward to a night of basketball. Pizza is made and ready for the oven so dinner tonight is pizza and chips.

BREAKING NEWS: MY bracket is still dead.

Not yet. It usually takes a couple of weeks.

Third time's the charm. Or fourth. Or fifth.

You too, 4 day weekend for me!

I have to work Monday and get to spend a few days driving to/from campus.

I had salt water tank for years. Beautiful and fun but a lot of work.

I worry about the riptides as oldest dd has become a proficient swimmer, and might think she can out swim one. She mostly uses a float, and VBR does have staff on the beach that could jet ski out to get her.

Yea, fish tanks may be even too much work for me. :lmao:

I think the kayak tour is in Indian river, a cove area from ocean, where you can see manatees and maybe a dolphin.

I hear ya on the no steak dinner on Friday. I'm good at frying fish so that helps.

I'm thinking close to Epcot. DW wants closer to ocean. You know who wins that one.

Not yet. It usually takes a couple of weeks.

Well, good luck on your rejection, er um, promotion. :sad2:

Sad and thanks for the PSA. I'll throw in one last reminder for you older (not necessarily more mature gents). One week left in colon cancer awareness month. Protect all your ASSets and get screened.

Draining day here. Interviewing for a new figurehead. First guy was good. Some of the same ideas I would have put forth if I wanted to submit myself to the abuse of applying and running the place. There is something to be said for less responsibility. Also DS and I were planning on heading north to the vacation :headache: home after the second candidates interview tomorrow,to join SWMBO and DD who went up yesterday. Car overheated when we ran to town. Most likely a bad head gasket. Guess we stay put. My mother also found out she needs to go in for cardioversion next month and we had planned on mom and dad coming south to meet us at the vacation:headache: home.

At least I am still on the green side of the sod.

Okay all, when I go to POR in August it is over the wife and I's 16 anniversary. I was thinking of getting flowers delivered to the room that would be there when we arrived. Does Disney do that sort of thing? I guess, I would actually need one big bouquet for the wife, and then three single flowers for each of my girls as well. Nothing over the top, and since we are flying the flowers will not be coming home with us, so it's not like I want a zillion dollar set of roses or something, just something for the wife to walk into the room and see sitting on the dresser or something. Anyone ever done anything like that?

Any ideas or thoughts? I have more than a few months to make it happen, so not anything that needs to be done immediately. :)

Disney does do this, I think. Someone might have the link, thought I did but can't find it. It will cost you. I would talk to 1-800-flowers and see what they can do for you.

Yeah, I thought I had a link, but can't find it either. I am trying to figure out what I am willing to pay... I am guessing 1-800- flowers will get it to the front desk, and not the room. Which might be fine if the price difference is that much.

Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Fun morning so far. DD heads out to go to church. It's 30 minutes out of town... You know, where the boyfriend is. Not long after, the BF calls to tell us she's in the ditch.

She's fine. By the time we got there, some Good Samaritan was already hooking up to pull her out. She was shaken up and had a little melt down. Car only had a flat tire which seems to be holding air.

Morning everyone, Happy Easter!

Having a bit a a freezing rain storm here today and that has put off our travel plans to a volleyball tournament in hold. I guess that means we will be hitting the road around 6 am tomorrow to get to the tournament.

Instead of driving, we have 3 teenage boys in our family room playing Lego Rock Band. Sounds like someone is killing a cat in our basement. Who would have thought Kung Fu Fighting could sound like that?

Oh Oh, we are now on to the Jackson Five!

That ditch has it in for your DD and her boyfriend. ;)

Glad to hear she's ok.

Oh man, glad to hear that she is okay. I have 4 more years until my oldest is 16...Not sure how I am going to deal with the whole my kids driving thing. I already don't have hair, so no idea what I will lose through that process, I can hope it will be my gut, but I doubt it.
