DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I had to stop by here for a sanity check. yes, here. That should indicate the type of day that I'm having. :headache::mad::crazy2::sad::sad2::headache:

Not enough hours in the day. All sorts of deadlines looming. I feel like I'm trying to shovel myself out of a hole, but I'm using a beach shovel when I need a front loader!

My dept follows the NYSE so we were off yesterday for Martin Luther King Jr. day. I was optimistic I could get some project work done but my oldest DD swiftly dashed those expectations. Her class has to do Book Responses. They are essentially book reports with very strict rules and criteria...have to have a visual prop, can only speak for 3 minutes and are graded on all of the usual public speaking criteria.

Last one she had to do, she did a Harry Potter novel. try consolidating a 700 page book into 3 minute summary.

This time she is doing the first Kingdom Keepers book. Less challenging BUT sooo many details.I spent the entire afternoon refining her presentation. So now I'm in catch up mode. I'm looking for corporate loopholes that say I can flog employees and not get fired.:confused3

Just discuss IASW and how the dolls try to eat them for three minutes. It will creep everyone out and no one will go to WDW leaving shorter lines for us.:thumbsup2

I've been getting a bunch of pressure around the Atlantis too... I love it there, but you're right, the airfare can be ridiculous... Maybe in 2016.

Maybe a Disdads meet up in the Bahama's.:cool1::cool1: I can't get lunch when we're 10 miles apart. Maybe if we fly to another country.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

We were planning on being in WDW from the 17th -25th but plans changed when my boss scheduled me to meet with a client whose wedding is Friday 8/21. So after meeting with them I booked the wedding, so our WDW days are now pushed up to 8/16-8/20. Those might change depending if DW can get that week off from work now. She switched positions at the beginning of last year and has the lowest seniority in her department now. But I do have a 1BR booked at BCV... maybe we can wave to each other. :rotfl::rotfl:

That stinks. Hopefully DW can get the time off. If SW continues flights the way they are now and have in the past, we'll be at the resort by 1PM on the 20th. Who gets married on a Friday?!?:confused3 Did you explain them that you had plans for WDW and that they would have to change the date? Priorities!:rolleyes1

God I hate the Pats... cheating, arrogant, slobs.

Melody & I found good airfare in March one time (pre kids) and went to hotel right down the street for Atlantis for 5 days... What's the airfare price?

Jealousy will get you nowhere!:lmao::lmao:

Just remember...If your not cheating, your not trying hard enough.:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2: Just an FYI, your soon to be MVP of the league in GB has admitted to over inflating the ball cause that's how he likes it.

Last year when we looked at the flights it was just under $1200/person. It was a vacation week which doesn't help. Add in the cost of food and hotel and there's a beach in the Dominican with my name on it for less.

Hello gentlemen...what all have I missed lately?

 Well, it's January. The Canadians keep leaving the door open. It's penguin day! Yup, that's about it.

We only booked 5 days at the parks figuring at least one day at SAB and the resort and a potential Seaworld or dark side visit to see the HP stuff. I would prefer to take a separate vacation o the dark side and stay on property at some point, but will see how it plays out. I assume you are agreeable to not doing the beach stay? Pretty sure we will skip '16 and go back in '17. There's a lot of pressure to visit Atlantis in the near future as well. The only problem with that is the price of airfare.:scared:
I dunno. The last time they came up with a place called Atlantis they sunk way too much into it. Hello. Anyone? Ahem. I'm not a beach guy i like walking along the surf beach combing but that's about it. DW and youngest are not fans. I did grab a boogie board for a buck at a garage sale to take but that's okay. I going to see if DW would be willing to cut out one of the two DHS days to insert KSC since the girls really seem to want to go. We are currently looking a 8 days there, with another four travel days. Flights are way out. I can't believe we scored $98 round trippers 5 years ago. I don't mind seeing the darkside once. I'm a Simpsons and Harry Potter fan to want to see what they came up with. No clue what rides DW and I could squeeze into though. Her proposal would be staying at their moderate for two nights while we check out the parks then cleanse ourselves at Disney for a week or so.
Hello gentlemen...what all have I missed lately?
Steve! A gas shortage and a Flock of Seagulls. That's about it. Hope the arms feeling better.

Just discuss IASW and how the dolls try to eat them for three minutes. It will creep everyone out and no one will go to WDW leaving shorter lines for us..

Now just picture this I'm Yzma's voice. "It's brillllliant"

I know but hey, 1 job that will pay for our flights is hard to turn down. :rolleyes1

MY MVP? I'm a Giants fan.

Last year when we looked at the flights it was just under $1200/person. It was a vacation week which doesn't help. Add in the cost of food and hotel and there's a beach in the Dominican with my name on it for less.
$1200 each? :scared: :scared:

Ummmm, no thanks... I see more WDW trips in your future! :rotfl2:

I'm looking for corporate loopholes that say I can flog employees and not get fired.:confused3

That’s quite legal in SC.
Wan’na see the scars?

Tell me you saw this video...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7ApxVyskuI

That guy is soooo lucky that truck jumped the barrier.

That would be the one that prompted my advisory.
*** shudder ***

Hello gentlemen...what all have I missed lately?

Well we’ve solved all the world’s problems by simply ignoring them and talking Disney instead.
It’s a “head in the sand” kind’a policy, but it works.

I feel your pain. But I guess it's better to be busy than unemployed.

There’s an absolute truth.
Not one I enjoy admitting to, it certainly an absolute one.

Last year when we looked at the flights it was just under $1200/person.

That’s just a mite on the step side. It’d be cheaper to hop on a cruise ship and just wave at Atlantis while sipping a cool drink and sailing off toward the next port of call.

I dunno. The last time they came up with a place called Atlantis they sunk way too much into it. Hello. Anyone? Ahem. The old HP area only has the Hippogriph(sp?) coaster that is easy to fit into. The castle one was pretty tight and uncomfortable. You can walk through the castle though and that's kind of cool. Haven't been to part 2 so have no idea. When we were there last time, the kids would only do a few things so I don't remember most of the car sizes for the others. There are a to of newer rides that we may try out if we get there. DS did not like Spiderman much (motion sickness), I thought it was a lot of fun.

I'd like to get in on that! :lmao:

If we make it a solid plan, you'll be the first....or 3rd I guess.....to know.

:lmao:

I know but hey, 1 job that will pay for our flights is hard to turn down. :rolleyes1

I hear ya! I would do the same. Of course I use airline points so the Job would have to pay for Dole Whips and Mickey Waffles.

MY MVP? I'm a Giants fan.

By "MY", I meant the league. I don't have very positive feeling about the Giants, just sayin.:rolleyes1

$1200 each? :scared: :scared:

Ummmm, no thanks... I see more WDW trips in your future! :rotfl2:

I'd rather swim across the ocean than pay $1200 to get there.

:wave2: Been pretty mild here the last few days so no black ice this morning. I'm starting to see why CJ hates bridges.:faint:

We got a lot of complaints when we shut down I-495 last summer, but this is exactly why we did it.

I HAVE TOLD YOU, BRIDGES = DEATH

I've been getting a bunch of pressure around the Atlantis too... I love it there, but you're right, the airfare can be ridiculous... Maybe in 2016.

Priced a trip to the Bahama's for a shark dive. Flights from MIAMI were ridiculous. Round trip airfare was around $300, for a 50 minute flight on Bahamas air (like I am going to get on that crop duster). Add 3 night's stay and we were in the $1,100 - $1,300 range, and that didn't include the dives or food/drinks. Decided not to spend the money. Other places in the Caribbean are better options for me.

Hello gentlemen...what all have I missed lately?

Hey Steve, how are things with you?

Me you and Norm can pool our points and get 3 nights in a bungalow over Christmas.:badpc:

I'm in but who is going to buy at Poly because I don't think they will be available at the 7 month window. I know it won't be me.

For the price they are charging I think DVC is getting a raw deal for basically rehabbing the Poly. Did DVC pay for the lobby renovations?
?

That's the rumor, but I have no idea.

Hello gentlemen...what all have I missed lately?

Hi Steve.

There certainly isn't a shortage of conspiracies. And the story remains the same..."I pay a lot for DVC, I am entitled to a a free car from Disney." I think DVC needs to include a special stupidity waiver that basically keeps the buyers from interjecting mindless nonsense about what they are entitled.

Yes, I hear those as well. Most of the DVC sales are made on that thrill of the moment, in the parks, without knowing much about how timeshare works.

The point cost and amount of points required to stay will certainly keep me away from the Poly. Maybe you, Norm and I can pool our points and get a DISDad weekend.:rotfl:
!

Philip and I talked about combining points to stay at the THV. It at least has three bedrooms. I doubt I'll ever to make to a 2 BR, much less anything more.

Me you and Norm can pool our points and get 3 nights in a bungalow over Christmas.:badpc:

And smuggle in the family dressed as elves and reindeer. :lmao:

That’s quite legal in SC.
Wan’na see the scars?
.

TMI. But, whatever you're into brother is all good.

God I hate the Pats... cheating, arrogant, slobs.

Haters gonna hate. :confused3

I get it though. Same thing happened with the Cowboys in the 90s, Yankees after the 90s, etc. People get sick of one team winning a dis-proportionate amount of time and decide they don't like that.

Much like a child who has to have everything be nice and fair, and everyone get an equal amount or else they cry. ;)

But you, of all fans, need to shut the hell up. The Pats have been pretty good to that team from New Jersey that you cheer for from 2 states away. ::yes::

Melody & I found good airfare in March one time (pre kids) and went to hotel right down the street for Atlantis for 5 days... What's the airfare price?

Depends on the time of year, but I usually see it over $600 pp. Hard to justify when we can get round trip to Fla. for close to $200 pp.

J
Maybe a Disdads meet up in the Bahama's.:cool1::cool1: I can't get lunch when we're 10 miles apart. Maybe if we fly to another country.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I can try to explain this to you again, but we haven't been 10 miles apart for the last 9 months... More like 50 miles. But if you want to drive the hour and a half down here for lunch, I'm happy to buy! :thumbsup2

Evening fellas. Regarding trips to Atlantis, remind yas that there are DCL itineraries that go to the Bahamas and you can do excursion to Atlantis. This would eliminate he high airfares, but then you would have the DCL costs, but hey it's Disney ;-)

We will see about that but I can't see them being sold out year round at 7months

I just hate living in essentially Pats territory. They are all I hear about. I am so sick of having Belichick on the news nightly saying nothing. :badpc:

2 states away? I can be in the Meadowlands quicker than getting to Foxborough.

Yea, thats a big difference. Not to mention Atlantis aint cheap either.

That's not too far off from what she's doing! She had to cut down on the details but she managed to keep that tidbit in there!

That’s quite legal in SC.
Wan’na see the scars?

I almost took a job in Florence when I got done with undergrad. I decided it was too hot, too slow and people were too nice. I would have been the yankee that everyone hated!:lmao:
My dad was bummed. He always focused on any future destination's proximity to beaches.

Sanity has been restored. Got a C25K workout on the treadmill in before dinner while DW and kids were at gymnastics practice. DD's school project shaped up nicely and there was no yelling, crying or violence. I even got some work done tonight. Work stress level has been reduced greatly. Not sure if it's b\c wisdom comes with age and experience or b\c I ran out of give a $h!+ :confused3

Other bonus is that I got my new laptop keyboard in the mail today so I don't have to perpetually go back and correct my words from certain keys not working!

Good night, gentlemen. Prayers for those in need and bacon for all.

Morning guys. Ran the numbers for our 80% certain trip in May. It will cost more for 3 day tickets than it will for a DVC rental. I don't want any more days than that because I know some of my kids will be over stimulated.

Morning guys!

I just hate living in essentially Pats territory. They are all I hear about. I am so sick of having Belichick on the news nightly saying nothing. :badpc:

Lol... I get it. But the last 2 SB losses to your team have been tough to swallow. Can't you guys just let us deflate balls and tape signals in peace?:lmao:

Morning David. 80% is good odds! Which resort are you looking to stay at?

Morning, David. Wrong approach. Over stimulation=indoctrination.
:lmao::rotfl2:

I totally understand you. It's kind of like dipping your toe in the pool, then wading into the shallow end before getting in completely. You don;t want to take the Carl Finsel Polar Plunge approach with the kiddos (just yet).

You can always spend more time at the resorts, DTD and those types of places and dial back on the Parks. Just a thought.
