DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I won't tell you about our weather then.
Are you still in Florida? Shouldn't you be heading across the pond soon? I believe you'll be stationed somewhere near Dusseldorf, isn't it? Where currently the temperature is a much more reasonable 7C/44F right now.
Luckily? You keep using that word...I do not think it means what you think it means.
Huh? Points in Canada must be the opposite of here in the states.
Right. Here you get merit points. So the more points you have, the lower your insurance is.
It's bad when you lose points.
At least in this province. Can't speak for the others.

After weeks of studying and cramming, The Better Half took her certification test today for her Pharmacy Tech license. I am happy to say she passed.

Hey, that's great news!

I now have to figure out how I'm going to afford a teenage driver on my insurance.

If you do figure that out, please share your secret. I have two teens on mine, getting ready to add a third. :faint:

Yay?

Still in FL. Hopefully, soon. There has been a lot of paperwork and seemingly nobody understands the concept of doing tasks in parallel.
Much more south. About an hour SW of Frankfurt.

Morning All,

We are having a snow day here. Started snowing last night around 7 and supposed to continue until about midnight tonight. Could be up to 20 inches or so by the time it's done.

If you do figure that out, please share your secret. I have two teens on mine, getting ready to add a third. :faint:

I was surprised how much drivers ed helped. Declan got his at 16 and the price was only about $300. Even when we added a 3rd vehicle for him it only added another 100 or so.

Hello,

Working from home today. Well, at least the laptop is on and the emails are open but there are much more interesting things on TV. I don't have any clue what it is, but anything is more interesting than work.

This afternoon, I go in to my audiologist to pick up my new hearing aid. I have had a severe hearing loss in one ear since I was a toddler and wear a hearing aid to help compensate. Luckily, I have excellent insurance that pays 90% of the cost as they are around $3500 each (not per pair), but they only allow a new aid every 3 years. My current aid has gotten worse at filtering background noise which makes focusing on voices extremely difficult (I can pick out my family, but new voices are harder). There is only so much adjusting that can be done within the limits of the technology from 3 years ago. Suffice to say, I'm excited to be able to hear properly again.

After that, I get to sit at the tire store while they fix the flat tire from the other night. This could either be a quick 15 minute fix, or I will be there for 3 hours. With our local tire store, there is no in between.

This is the reason we enrolled her in drivers ed. In our town, it is run by the school district and supported by the police and it includes about 40 hours of classroom time (complete with projects, homework, tests, and oral reports), as well as 20 hours of behind the wheel driving and observation. There is a HUUUUGE discount for completing drivers ed. It costs quite a bit, but is well worth it.

Morning, folks.

Yes, it's afternoon, but it's morning to me.

Pretty stoked. My laser cutter came today and I can't wait to get it set up and see what it can do.

Oy. Well let us know when you get your marching papers.

So you're saying no matter what country you live in, you migrate south..

:scared:
So... you're not digging out... you're tunneling out!

Good for you.

What?

Holy expensive! Than goodness for your insurance!

Ugh. Good luck.

Pretty stoked. My laser cutter came today and I can't wait to get it set up and see what it can do.

What are you planning on doing with it? I have access to a laser cutter at work I can use when it is not being used for work stuff, but I haven't really figured out what I want to make. I've made a few small things but not much. I keep thinking I should get some blank picture frames and custom engrave them like you see at Disney.

Afternoon all.

Sunny but cold Sunday here. Looking forward to watching some NASCAR racing later today from the track they built inside the LA Coliseum. That should be interesting.

Have a good one all.

Not a NASCAR fan, but... yeah, that sounds different.

I'm hoping something similar to this (off the internet):

Now, that is an ambitious project; lots of layers and connections. Be sure to show us your progress.

I've been debating about getting a 3D printer but I'm afraid after tinkering with it for a while, I will run out of ideas and it will become an expensive dust collecter. I guess I could get on the Etsy bandwagon and make things to sell but that sounds too much like work.
