DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Declan thanks you all for the well wishes Guys. Hopefully once the wire comes out in 6 weeks he will be allowed to play soccer again. Sounds like the rehab road will be long given where the breaks were. Doctor told him probably 1 to 2 years to get full use of the finger back.

On a good news front, the doctor did point out there were still growth plates visible in the x-ray so there is still hope for him to hit that 6'5" mark. :goodvibes

Norm, the movie was telling the truth, we just use those stories to keep a certain element out of the country. :rotfl:

Sorry to hear about his finger, that's a nasty break. Hope it heals up quick.

Good morning all. Two great games yesterday. Felt bad for France and the kid that missed the penalty shot and that was the best the US played so far even though it ended up 1-0. It is steamy out here, had to use a knife to make my way out the door. 100+ feels like probably today.

Sorry to hear that. Chartering a boat to spread the ashes is a nice touch.

Sorry to hear about the friend CJ - prayers.

Thanks guys, heading out soon. Not looking forward to it but you do what you have to do for friends. Not going to be a big turnout so I feel like I need to be there. I am sure he spent a lot of money to rent out the boat. Memorials like this are common down here although this is the first one I will be participating.

Evening all. Last night at Orlando.

Despite everything, it looked like a great trip. Safe travels.

150 miles in 3 hours in Georgia. :furious:

Top o the Morning Dads -enjoy your weekend and safe travels Norm.

Thanks.

Nice picture. It would take a lot of fermented drink to get me in that place again. The entertainment is interesting for a bit, but none of the family like the food.
.

The beer helped. We last ate there over a decade ago as we didn't care the food either. But, Biergarten has changed. I think there were bench seating as opposed to chairs. The food was ok, pretzel rolls being terrific. There is a German restaurant in Jasper, IN that is way better.

Funny thing, BIL & FIL said they wanted to eat there. We went to get a stamp at China At kid station and said we would join them. BIL and his family went ahead, assuming to get reservations. FIL & his girlfriend stayed with us. When the 6 of us arrived at Germany, BIL and his family had almost finishes eating quick service. FIL said to go ahead with restaurant and BIL and his family left to go elsewhere. Not even sure tool is the right word.

Did the referee even yellow card the player? The officiating of youth soccer is really bad here.

As for the movie, lots of posts yesterday about people not liking Supreme Court ruling and are moving to Canada to escape gay marriage. You can have all our smart citizens.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

We had a good trip. We expected BIL & SIL to be DBs, so that part wasn't a surprise. We didn't know FIL would get hurt and have to use a wheelchair. However, if he hadn't, may or may not have spent as much time with him. So, I think it was an experience my dds will always remember - vacationing with their papaw. My grandfather took me out on his sailboat one time, and I remember it to this day. He didn't have it much longer as his health declined.

No card, just a free kick. He didn't even check to see if he was ok. This guy and one of the linesmen didn't really seem to be paying attention.

That drive must have been a pain, hope you weren't with the BIL at that time.

I feel your pain. In a van with DW, DD4 & DD8...
12 hours to get to Chattanooga. 560 miles.
That extra four hours was nice...... :sad2:

Not even sure tool is the right word.

Nope. But the right word just looks like this: ***********

Am I missing something? Are you saying people against gay marriage want to move to Canada?
We were the first country outside of Europe and the fourth country in the world to legalize gay marriages.
We had tons of Americans come up here to get married.
So if people are coming up here to escape gay marriage... then yeah. They are your brightest bulbs! :rolleyes2

Home from WDW. Mike and Philip, I yelled out the window twice around 9:30 PM & 10:00 PM respectively. I'm sure you heard me. I finished by brief trip report. The link is in my signature if you get really bored, check it out. It is in the DVC Trip Report thread.

No, they went another way. Very thankful.

No, you're not missing anything. I think Canada has already legalized gay marriage, although I could be wrong. It was just a lot of hate filled people posting they were moving to Canada to escape the gays. I won't here, but I can respectfully discuss those issues. These were just stupid people posting stupid stuff.

'Afternoon all...
The heat broke just enough for me to get out and mow the yard... oh joy...
At least the lack of rain during this recent wave kept the grass's growth in check for a couple weeks.

Oh - on the up-side - being out there allowed my neighbor the chance to introduce herself. She wants to know when I'll be removing all my trees so there wont be any leaves getting into her yard. :sad2:

Missed a BD I see.
:bday: to our resident Controller of the Universe.

Sorry to hear that he got himself busted up.
May that rehab go better than expected.
With dedicated folks, that's not all that uncommon at all.

Prayers for all concerned.
You are a good friend.

Thank you guys!

I saw that update. I'm a bit late to the party, but I glad to see that you are doing well.
Like I said a moment ago, determined folks tend to recover well.

Looks to me like this trip has been a bit of an eye-opener for a number of folks and in some unexpected ways.
Glad y'all were able to make it a grand time despite the tribulations, but I'm also not surprised.

Ya' done good there.

Karma will get even with him.

If only that were always true.

I see you're getting a chance to meet some of my neighbors.
If you think their reactions are just a mite off base here...
just wait until someone explains y'alls health system them.

Nope, not wrong. We did. Back in 2005.

I saw the movie Sicko.
Best part was the cashier at the hospital in England.
Where they pay you if you don't have money for a cab.

Randall Update: Full Discloser. (Posting both in the DIS and Facebook, because some of you guys don’t go to the other place.)

The knee is doing very well. The incision is fully closed and healing fine. I am going to physical therapy three times a week and am walking unassisted. If I do say so myself, I walk pretty darn well now that both of my legs are about the same length. One of cooler things I do in PT is walk in an Alter G. This is an anti-gravity treadmill, when I get zipped into it; it fills with air and lifts me up until I am at 100% weightless. I then adjust to a % of my weight and walk.

Speaking of weight, the Doctor told me that with the previous damage to my leg, there was not much material left to work with. If I wanted this new knee to last a long time, I needed to lose weight. I took this to heart and joined Weight Watchers three weeks ago and as of last Saturday I have lost over 15 pounds since my pre-surgery weigh in, 12 pounds officially in WW.

As you may remember, I was let go at the end of March from my job. Took a quick trip to Disney and then came home to do four surgeries in two months. The knee was the last of them. I wasn’t really looking too hard for a job, but I needed one to keep up my Disney fixes. Well, the day before my knee surgery I got a call from one of my vendors from my last job looking to see if I needed a job. I told them yes but knee surgery. They asked that I call them back when I got out of the hospital. I called them and we set up an appointment for them to come to the house to interview me. Some of you know what happens here. I posted over in the Pub about the appointment and was given the advice to wear pants. If I remember correctly the time to meet was 2pm, well a little before 1pm I get a text asking if they could come now as they were in the area already. I text back, “Sure come on over, just give me a few minutes to put on pants” thanks guys. The interview went well and I felt I was doing ok. Then came those two dreaded questions. First was “What is your strength?” I told them what I felt it was. Then the interviewer looked up from his writing and say, “You know the next one, What are your weaknesses?” And without missing a beat, I said “Kryptonite and Lois Lane!”
Yesterday I got the offer letter, less vacation from my last job, but more money! I start July 13th.

Until next time this is your Disney friend Randall signing off…

Congrats on the healing and the job. Would hate to see the Disney and beer money get pinched.
And the pants, pants are always good.

Happy Friday All. Hope it's been a good one for you.

Our was a bit craze as it included an unscheduled hand surgery for DS. He had a soccer game last night in a city about an hour away and he was playing keeper last night, first time in 2 years. (Their normal keeper was away.) About half way through the second half, one of the opposing players kicked him hard enough to break his right index finger in right at the knuckle. Being the trooper that he is, he played the rest of the game, even getting some more touches on the ball. Once we say what his finger looked like we decided that a trip to the emergency room was probably a good idea. Luckily the regional hospital was next to the field.

After the attending physician saw the x-ray, he recommended we find a hotel and return to their plastics clinic in the am. So even though we had no other clothes, toiletries or contact solution, we found a hotel and returned to the hospital in the morning. Again, luck was on our side as the specialist he saw turned out to be one of the leading hand reconstruction surgeons in the world and promptly decided that he was putting a wire in his finger and we would need to make a few visits back down the highway to see him again. The bad news for DS is that the wire needs to be there for 6 weeks so that puts him out of action for awhile. The biggest hit for him is that he will now miss the high performance basketball camp he was invited too.

Other than that, it was a good day.

Tough break. Hope he heals well. At his age as long as they got everything straight he should be as good as new in no time.

Afternoon Dads, hope all that are south of the border only have a 4 day work week, try to enjoy.

Glad ya made it home safe & sorry ya aren't still there. Thought I heard a noise, thought it was Rob's neighbor yelling about his trees.

Morning all. It is tough to be back at the office this AM. I booked a Boardwalk View for Spring Break in 2016. I like going early April when it's not Easter week. We thought about trying Grand Floridean or Poly, but we would get fewer nights for the same amount of points. I'm thinking DVC really priced themselves out of that market, but maybe not. We still might switch to one of them or try a split stay with Vero Beach. These are the type of decisions I like making.

Oh - on the up-side - being out there allowed my neighbor the chance to introduce herself. She wants to know when I'll be removing all my trees so there wont be any leaves getting into her yard. :sad2:
.

Did you hand her a herring and ask her to cut them down?

Thanks, but I think pants are over rated. I think in the not to far future all Dads will not be wearing them.
]

Yes, I try to avoid wearing pants as often as possible.

Glad ya made it home safe & sorry ya aren't still there. Thought I heard a noise, thought it was Rob's neighbor yelling about his trees.
:

It could have been. More traffic than I'm used to seeing.

Evening Guys,

DS had his first check up today, the doctor was pretty happy with how the finger looked after the 3 days. He talked to the physiotherapist and they decided to keep him in a cast for about 4 weeks and felt that he should be able to begin some rehab after that. He was given the option of cast or another full hand splint and went with the cast, decorated in a camo theme.

Glad to hear the digit is coming along.
And of course he chose a camo cast!

Evening all. Last full day in Sarong for the kid. She starts the long and winding road back tomorrow. Some friends she made are going with her to the mainland so they can have a little party.

Welcome back, unfortunately had to say that. Looking forward to seeing the TR.

Maybe this time the luggage will arrive in the same week that she does.

My eyesight is already going. I do not wish to lose the rest of it all at once.
So I'll just pass on this one... okay?
