DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Anyone have any experience with the Helix mattress? SWMBO wants a new mattress and the last one I bought was almost 20 years ago for DS.

Nice work there mate!
Thanks. I just wish that once... just once! that things wouldn't hurt after a run. It's my back, or my knee, or my achilles, or now my calf. Frankly, I'm beginning to think being out of shape is a pretty good shape after all.
You should stop. Do you need a note from your Mother?
I do want to do that 5K. I'm stubborn enough to see it through, barring major medical issues.

Morning, Gents! Had a good weekend. Not much to report. Spent Saturday playing with the DD. She has this little computer with some games on it, and I got hooked into playing a Wild Kratts game, so lots of fun times with the DD. Sunday I spent the morning studying and then the afternoon at the in-laws. Yeah I know, social distancing. My DFiL doesn't care and insists we go and visit from time to time. I did tell my wife a super duper secret that I've kept from her for a few years now. Don't know what I was thinking, but I let slip that I have a separate super duper uber secret vacation savings account...even told her how much was in it. I told her that that's where I put all my gig money and anything extra I have. I did tell her that, as the name implies, I'm using it to save up for a vacation, however, in times like these, with me not having a permanent job, and all of her gigs having dried up, we can use it if we had to. I didn't want to tell her, but felt I had to. I'm not 100% sure I'm going to get the job at work, since they have candidates with lot more experience than I have having applied. As much as I want to save that money for a vacation, I know it needs to go to bills if we had to. Oh well, life does get in the way, doesn't it? Well, gents, have a good day, and we'll chat later.

Morning chaps, bright but cold over here.

For this transgression, I am afraid to say we have to put you on separate super duper uber secret probation. The committee may or may not let you know when it has been rescinded.

I still get twinges, and in a good month I'll run close to 80k. Good job on seeing it through, 5k is a good milestone, then you might start to chase 10.

Lots of calls about numbers today, so not the most fulfilling day I'm ever gonna have.

May your day be a Mickey Bar, that's a freebie from Mickey

Good morning, fellas.

That looks really good! Except for what appears to be fungus.

Managed to run 3k today. Just barely. Had about 100m to go when my left calf cramped up really badly. Managed to limp the rest in. But still... progress.

Running is fun! And good for you! That's what everyone keeps telling me.

Now we're talking.

We went for a long walk yesterday to counteract the effects of all the food we ate for Mother's Day. By the end my heel was killing me. Could barely stand on it in the shower this morning. I guess it's back to the stationary bike for me.

Well, it's never a bad idea to have a rainy day fund. Would be much more fun to spend on a trip, though.

So I made my first attempt at smoking my own bacon this week. Got some pork belly from Costco, cured it for 3 days, smoked it on Saturday, and then fried it yesterday morning. I gotta say, I was pleased with the results. The biggest pain in the process was slicing it.

I love ya buddy, but you are a galactic salad dodger :rotfl:

Looks amazing mate, well done. It is tough slicing your own. My butcher lets me use his machine after he closes and then I reclean for Commercial Hygiene. It's tough to go back to supermarket after you do home made.

It is a Happy Monday morning here. We had a great Mother's day lunch with burgers, sausages, hot dogs, & s'mores. I managed to grill it despite hurricane polar vortex winds.

A Federal Court overturned the Governor's unconstitutional orders on attending Church. Georgia has seen an increase in cases, but a decline in hospital admissions and deaths since being opened the past two weeks. And, DisneyLand is taking resort reservations July 1. C'mon WDW!!!

Nah, its really not mate. The US doesn't have a monopoly in holding people to account.

I know. I was just answering with the first thing that came to mind. There are a many who think these lockdowns are helping as opposed to hurting as well. I read an interesting article about gun ownership/ values between USA and Australia. Since both were your colonies, the author suggested the reason for the difference is that we fought a revolution for independence. I'm sure personal experiences play a role as well.

Happy Sunday all. All the best to your better halves. An odd Mother's Day but got take-out Italian for SWMBO and she liked it. Polar vortex moving out and hopefully a return to something resembling normal. Churches opened up in KY today and several other places in Appalachia are doing as they please now. No reason why Wal-Mart should have 300 cars in the parking lot but the State Park campground has to be shut down.

And, indoor movie theatres can open before campgrounds. That doesn't make any sense either. Our Diocese didn't open yet, as we are waiting direction from the Bishop. I'm just glad the Government is out of the decision making process.

:rotfl2: Now I feel like I need to adopt this title and work "Galactic Salad Dodger" into everyday conversations.

I'll eat a salad once in a while when my wife puts it on my plate, as a token attempt at nutrition.

Neither one of us will touch mushrooms, though.

Nice to have a buddy hook you up like that! A meat slicer would have been a godsend. We just had to make do with uneven slices that were a little thicker than usual. That latter part wasn't a problem at all.

We have a local Amish farmers market that sells really good bacon. I don't think I topped theirs, so it begs the question as to whether it's worth the effort to do it myself or just go to the farmers market. But yeah, way better than Oscar Meyer.

He's smart. Avoids the carp our food eats. Especially fungus.

Not eating fungus has always seemed reasonable to me.

Morning, gents.
Let's list the litany of pain shall we? Left calf, left hip, right knee, lower back (although that's usually there anyway).
Are you sure running is good for me?

:lmao:

I'd have to be in a lot less pain for that to happen.
Running is fun! And good for you! That's what everyone keeps telling me.
Those people are known as "trolls".

But you have to be prepared for when Disney opens!

Wow that looks amazing!
Might I suggest this?
Amazon meat slicer
The price is certainly right.
My butcher lets me use his machine after he closes and then I reclean for Commercial Hygiene.
Nice!

Huh! Now that is interesting!
Separation of Church and State?
And, indoor movie theatres can open before campgrounds. That doesn't make any sense either.
That's... really bass ackwards.

This response was absolutely Hysterical. I definitely needed that laugh this morning. Thanks! And I'll try not to let the wife know about any other super duper uber secret money I have in the future.

Well, it's never a bad idea to have a rainy day fund. Would be much more fun to spend on a trip, though.

This is true, however, I should have kept it secret. I initially was going to use it to purchase camera equipment/toys, but then decided that vacation came before camera. Now that the future is uncertain as to employment, paying bills trumps all.

Man that looks good!!!

Morning Guys!

Unlike Darcy, I've been on the phone all morning with a bunch of Non-government officials. Obviously I'm not nearly as important as he.

I am, however, enjoying my Joffrey's coffee this morning. Today's brew is the "in-room" French Roast. It's pretty da*n tasty!

For what it's worth - I was able to snag a Boardwalk view this morning for our upcoming "maybe it'll happen" August trip. First time staying at BWV, so I'm hoping it happens!

Have a great week everyone!

Top O the Mornin Dads! Looks like most had a good weekend and hopefully all the Moms enjoyed their day. Perfect weather here yesterday and looking like mid 80's coming up later this week and weekend so got that to look forward to. Had MIL over yesterday with the "4 corners" approach sitting outside and hooked her up with video chats to the family back in Chicago area. Have a good week gents!

I just saw your Side Signature :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
I feel truly honoured. I'm so getting that on a T shirt for you when we ever meet up.
We just had to make do with uneven slices that were a little thicker than usual. That latter part wasn't a problem at all.
Not on homemade. 3 Days is a pretty short cure, did you use one of the kits? I hear ya though, if you can get good bacon, then that's possibly the way to go. I feel the same way about fresh pasta. I can make it, it tastes awesome, but I can pick up a really good bag for about 4 quid from the deli.
C'mon WDW!!!
Have you still got your AP or were you getting it this time?
I need to work out if getting out there in January and April its worth my while getting one for me.
Are you sure running is good for me?
Yep. From a lungs and heart point of view. The rest of your body.....well......
I definitely needed that laugh this morning. Thanks!
All part of the international brotherhood of Disdaddery, my friend. Glad I put a smile on your face. I like to maintain my comedy average of one gag every 50 or so landing and making someone at least chuckle. That's me done for the next couple of months.
So much clarity!!
We got a whole dose of that Governmental Clarity last night.
What a shower of shizzle that was.
For what it's worth - I was able to snag a Boardwalk view this morning for our upcoming "maybe it'll happen" August trip.
Nice! Points or Cash?
