DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Hey guys, not much to report from my weekend. I took it fairly easy. It rained here all weekend, so I had little desire to go outside or do much of anything.
I watched the last Blue Jays game of the season yesterday and I even watched most of the Patriots/Bills game. That's surprising for me since it wasn't the Superbowl.

Okay gents, anyone have any experience with Dis lost and found? Week was going so well until DD lost her brand new BBB purse somewhere at Ft wilderness. All cause the DW wanted a shirt and our resort said they had one there. She didn’t loose anything that major, just the new purse, some trading pins, lanyard, and her sorcerer cards. It’s the world to her, so I’m wondering if anyone has had any luck with the system. I know it takes a trustworthy person to find it and turn it in first, so here is hoping.
Sorry to hear it. I hope you find it.
I did lose a camera in the bathroom at DHS years ago. It was picked up by custodial and brought to Lost & Found at the front of the park. We stopped in there a couple hours after once we realized it was missing, and they had it.

It was fun, but disappointing too...way too many people, so the concept of lesser crowds and low wait times is gone.
That's how I found MNSSHP last year. I really don't think I will go again, considering the cost and the crowd levels.

We've had reasonable luck but they can be slow. Younger son left a cell phone on a bus - we did get it back but it took a couple days for them to get it to our hotel. Older son left his blankie in the bed at Wilderness Lodge a few years back, and once we reported it they mailed it to us.

At least there are only 3 more kids after this. :faint:

I should be done with older son after this spring, fortunately. (3 years of community college FTW.) A few more years on my daughter, but fortunately that's a state school. Younger son has agreed to go to the community college until he figures out what he wants to do in the longer term. (Professional D&D player doesn't look likely to pay well, unfortunately.)

An early and long birthday lunch finds me home watching Man United vs Arsenal. It's been a month of Keto, and I've lost 20 pounds. I still have a long way to go, and it won't be as much in future months. Still, it's a good start to another year older.

Happy Birthday Norm! :drinking1:drinking1:drinking1:cheer2::bday:

Thanks 007.

Good morning! Happy Monday to all, and Happy Birthday, Norm!

I spent the weekend at a college open house in Rochester, NY. My daughter graduates in the spring, so we figured we should probably start figuring out what's next. Here's what I've learned so far:

1. College is expensive.

Thanks Mark. And remember, they don't have to go to college. My youngest is convinced she's going to be a doctor, lawyer, or both. I told her she needs to be a lot better at tennis to get the $ to pay for it.

Morning all.

Soccer came to a crashing end last night with a 3-1 loss in the second leg of the semi final. Just wasn't our night but they can't take away our regular season championship and that one is much harder to win. Just coaching volleyball on tap now.

Have a great Monday all and

Thanks Darcy. Sorry to hear about the playoff, but regular season champs stands forever.

Noooo! Disney would never find a way to extort more money from people. That could never happen.

They were pretty good. We went in the evening right before Illuminations started, so we were able to see (and I caught on video) some of illuminations from the air, so that was cool. I can imagine, in the middle of summer, they could be miserable. They don't have AC, but they do have good vents, so last night, with 85 or so degree weather, the movement of the car and the venting were fairly good. Someone mentioned, in the day time, if they stop, they get rather warm. I was happy we were able to ride them the first "day" of operation. After illuminations was done, the line to get on them at EPCOT was crazy. Not sure if it was people just wanting to ride them like us or actually staying at one of the resorts, but we were very glad we went BEFORE illuminations was done.

Unless I'm staying at one of the resorts, I'm not sure if (or how often) I'd use them. One of the couples we were with was wanting to "hop" from EPCOT to HS, but to do so, you have to go to CBR and get off and then get on another one. It's possible this might be faster than a bus option, but I'm fairly certain it's way slower than either walking from EPCOT to HS or taking the boat. If you're at one of the resorts and want to go to either EPCOT or HS, I can see this being significantly faster than a bus.

:bday: NORM!

Thanks Doc. And thanks for the gondola review. I'm sure we will try them like you. Since we usually stay at BWV, we walk to both Epcot and DHS. The boat ride is nice if you time.it right or are too tired. I still don't understand how AKV got left out of the DVC two transportation mode.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Been a bit checking in here as business travel will do that. Looks like ya'll kept the place clean and picked up while I've been away. Nice thing is in double digit days for me til DDCC8 at 99 days!
Have a great week guys, and..........

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NORM

If any of you are fans of the Blacklist, you might recognize the guy above

He's Bazzel Baz in real life and just Baz on the show. We went to a fundraising event for sherrifs department to raise money for K9s and he was the guest speaker. We got to meet him and chat with him for 15 minutes, maybe longer. Nice guy and has a ministry rescuing children from human trafficking. He mentioned to us some drug dealers are switching to human trafficking because it's more profitable.
Absolutely sickening how bad this has become.

I like the Blacklist, but missed him if you hadn't pointed it out. Good show.

Hard to believe people are still profiting from dealing people. The media and other folks get all fired up about emails or recordings, depending on their politics, but we just stop addressing modern day slavery entirely.

El Jimador Roposado. Nice mid priced tequila. Goes great over ice just a splash of lime.

I second this. Your birthday Dole whip with rum is in the mail.

Thanks Cliff. Learned the difference between a blanco, reposado, and anejo. I'll go wait by the mailbox for your rum dole whip.

3. Meal Plans Are Expensive
4. Parking Pass is expensive
5. Books are expensive
6. Fees and Dues are expensive
7. Athletic fees are expensive

9. Supplies are expensive
10. Software license fees (student rates) are expensive

Just returned from our 8 day trip to Orlando, WDW, and Hogsmeade/Diagon Alley. Saturday was our travel day. We swam in the morning in the pool in 85 degree weather under the palm trees, then jumped on a plane and landed in Calgary and 30F with a foot of snow on the ground. Sometimes this happens in Calgary this early, but it rarely stays. Weather forecast says it is all supposed to melt by early next week. I hope so, because I want to get back to riding my bicycle to work.

The trip was great. We stayed off property all but one night (CBR) and spent 5 days in the parks and one day at US/IoA. Kids had a blast. Lots of fun play time. The 7 yo loved all the rides and could be heard shouting "this is awesome!!!" through many of the rides. 10 yo loved it too. Was completely in her happy place at AK (she loves nature and animals) and was in awe of the Harry Potter areas of Universal.

Galaxy's Edge was pretty impressive and the theming was great. We had some breakfast and drinks at Oga's Cantina and I have to say that was awesome. The atmosphere was great. Would have loved to stay there longer.

We did all the rides we wanted to and without being a complete Commando, I was a FP+ champ and helped Tap, Grab, and modify our way to 19 different rides/attractions on our first day at MK. I think I may have snagged 5 or 6 additional FPs throughout the course of the day, including a last minute Jungle Cruise FP at 8:20pm. We even managed to get on 7DMT right before the fireworks with a posted 30 minute wait (turned out to be 12 mins).

What also surprised me was how much my kids enjoyed Epcot World Showcase. Granted it was F&W festival, so they could try lots of neat new foods and drinks (of the kid variety), but they also enjoyed all the movies, shops, and exploring the countries. They didn't LOVE that I told our waiter at Chefs de France that they were only allowed to speak to him en francais, and he obliged (they attend a french immersion elementary school).

Great trip. Lots of good food and drink, lots of steps (I averaged 25,000 steps a day!). Great vacation.

Hope all is well with everyone here.

Welcome back and keep that snow out west. I have to go to Winnipeg in November, that should be bad enough.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Bitter sweet last night with final Illuminations showing. The kids and are family grew up with that show and the only one the kids know. I'm good with new stuff and the parks evolving just a bit dusty outside last night.

Sounds like a great trip except coming home to that white stuff. Glad the kids had a great time. When's the next visit planned for? Always need at least a tentative plan out there :-)

Afternoon boys, today my conference calls have run from 8am to just now, so about 6 hours straight. I have 2 more this afternoon, so just coming up for air.

I know many of you are not fans, but this will be me in 10 years when they dump Happily Ever After.

Our kids love Epcot. Sounds like you had a great trip!

Good job buddy.
I even watched most of the Patriots/Bills game. That's surprising for me since it wasn't the Superbowl.
Good game to pick my friend.
That's how I found MNSSHP last year. I really don't think I will go again, considering the cost and the crowd levels.
We did the second Tuesday, and it really was pretty quiet.
Had some good ones at La Cava in Epcot.
I do love a cheeky Avocado Margarita from La Cava, as well as the neat ones.

Congrats on the weight loss and belated happy birthday

I agree with Darcy. Keep the white stuff out west. Although it’s been windy and pretty cold here all week. Summer temps are definitely gone.

so just coming up for air.
That’s what she said

We did the second Tuesday, and it really was pretty quiet.
I guess it’s just the luck of the draw. My last two parties have been very crowded compared to the first.

Thanks Mark. And remember, they don't have to go to college.

Very true. All depends on what the kids want to do for a living.

Too late.

I have to go to Winnipeg in November, that should be bad enough.

Careful. There are some very shady characters in Winnipeg.

A 400+ mile round trip today. Ugh, I'm tired.

Sounds like a great trip.

Oh and hey, happy birthday Norm!

Thanks.

I do love a cheeky Avocado Margarita from La Cava, as well as the neat ones.

I did a flight. So smooth. No idea what I drank, but I'll try again.

Congrats on the weight loss and belated happy birthday

Thanks.

True. It's sad that the college narrative has played out so prominently. Especially when kids take huge un-bankruptable loans for degrees/ careers that pay little to nothing.

Anyone watching the Spurs v Bayern Munich game?

La la la la la.......happy happy happy happy

Listen. I think Bayern just scored another goal. :lmao: I saw the highlights, and your Spurs got a hard spanking.

Good day all.

Fall has definitely arrived, rainy and cool here today.

Meetings for most of the afternoon, good times.

Anyone watch the EPCOT Forever show last night? What did you think?

Top O the Mornin Dads! Isn't Fall around here yet 98 today and 97 tomorrow break in the heat appears to be Sunday as highs are in the 70's for the next week or so we go from high 90's to 70 for a high within 36 hours so that will bring in some storms. Have a good one gents
Anyone watch the EPCOT Forever show last night? What did you think?
It looked good and I liked the music and that they are paying homage to EPCOT of the past. From what folks who were there reviewed it most loved the fireworks which larger scale than Illuminations. Looking forward to seeing it live as there is now way a video can do the scale of this show justice. HEA you can place a camera in front of the castle and catch everything while the EPCOT show is 360 degrees.
