Morning guys. Another hot day here in Indy. As CJ noted earlier, I too can't wait for football to start. Don't we have a draft coming up for fantasy?
It has been really hot the past few days. Summer is finally here! I've got to say, I'm not a big fan of the whole concept of the ice bucket challenge for many reasons including those I've seen posted by some fellow dads on face book. I was hoping to avoid getting called on it by making threats to people who might potentially make me do it, but when my brother in law called me on it I didn't mind. It felt fantastic on Monday afternoon. And it is a good cause albeit one that I might not ordinarily contribute to of my own free will. But I know some affected by the disease so I looked at it as doing it for them.

Anyway back to the topic. Can't wait for football. Had a Draft last night and my team sucks. I might have to auto pick the ddc team. The local drive in theater is running a triple feature of Planes Fire and Rescue, Ninja Turtles, and Expendables 3 Sunday night. I think we might try to go.

That conscious moment in time when one realizes just how bad the mistake they’ve just made will be.

‘Morning all…
Pretty day expected here; more like fall then summer.
Not sure whether that’s a precursor to a long winter or if it’s just a feign before the unsought of a brutally oppressive September.
Probably both.

Back from doctor, and yup, got in trouble. Good cholesterol but blood sugars have gone up and blood pressure won't go down. Three months to regulate or else..:sad2:

Not fun. May you get a handle on that quickly.

Hey anytime I can, I'll be sure to use the nuggets of wisdom except...Grandkids? That would require the girls y'know, one day dating and stuff..

Yep… dating and stuff
And all us old guys will just sit back and laugh…

Another night of tennis. But, I stunk it up. Still a far way from consistency.

Last night, I made BLT sandwiches, sweated thru 2 shirts, and lost 2 pounds.

Tonight, DW made frozen ravioli, I sweated thru 2 shirts, and I gained 2 pounds.

I think DW is trying to kill me. :lmao:

So the lesson here seems to be:
Stick to bacon and stop making payments of your life insurance.

Never been to any of the hall of fame. Maybe one day.

The one in Cleveland is pretty cool.
Except for the whole “no taking pictures” thing, but other than that…

And, it's ok to talk to yourself on vacation. If you find yourself answering the voices in your head, you may need to seek help. :thumbsup2 :lmao:

Y’all don’t talk to the voices? Really?
I’ve been answering and conversing with them for better than half a century now.

Should be fun. The last time I was at a drive-in we saw a Disney double billing of Cars and POTC II.
While not necessarily the “best” possible Disney/Pixar combo, it was still a fun evening.
That was a good long while back though; wonder what they're showing this weekend?
…may have to look into it.

Morning Guys.

Taking the day off to spend with DS today. We usually take one day in the last week of his break to do something. This year we are headed to the golf course with his grandfather.

Have a good one.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Did some shopping yesterday to get ready for a full grilling weekend and did pruning and trimming work in the yard in prep for the weekend as we will have folks passing through all weekend with DD back in town.

I don't know about you guys, but I need the college football season to start NOW! Currently have on the 1990 UCLA/Washington game. Mark Brunell just ran it in for a two point conversion. Why am I watching this?

WILL THURSDAY EVER COME?
I hear ya and could not agree more. Making sure I have all the apps needed to watch on the iPad since I will be grilling all weekend - GO IRISH!

Hey anytime I can, I'll be sure to use the nuggets of wisdom except...Grandkids? That would require the girls y'know, one day dating and stuff..
Not sure about the wisdom part, but we are here for you. Get use to it my man as they are gonna grow up. Only referenced stormin the castle with grandkids as that would be a ways out to help keep you focused. If the grandkids thing scares ya we should all have a goal of enjoying a Dole Whip in EPCOT (rum versions) at age 80?

Morning all. I've done enough work for the day. Time to catch up on my reading.

There is a Kentucky joke in here, But I'm going to just let it slide on account of the Team Sparrow code. :lmao:pirate::rotfl2:

Don't skip those jokes on KY, especially when in comes to dental care. And, my dentist, as bad as it was, is still way better than others. :scared1:  :crazy2:

Just how many beers did it take to convince them to lay on the ground? Apparently, I've not even had that many. :lmao:

Quick - tell me everything you guys know about coaching U8 recreational soccer.

DS's coach for the past 2 years wasn't able to continue this season. We signed DS up again, expecting to be assigned to another team. But nope, he was assigned to the same team, with about half of the kids that were on it last year and a handful of new players - and no coach. The first game is next Saturday and the organizing body is "working hard to find a coach." Which I'm pretty sure is just code for "waiting around until one of the parents with no soccer experience blinks and volunteers to coach." The problem here is that my soccer knowledge was entirely gained in the past 2 years by watching my son's games and practices and streaming a handful of World Cup games in Spanish. So I know how to shout "GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL" when someone scores, but that's about it.

I've been talking to the mom of one of the other players, and we're leaning toward volunteering, but only to ensure that another dad - one with some high school soccer experience, but waaaaaay to intense for 8 year olds - doesn't volunteer. We have no idea if he is even interested since he was only at about half of his son's games last year, but just the thought of him doing it has us worried.

I want to make sure the kids have a dependable coach, but on the other hand, I'm not sure what I can teach them besides "see that net over there? kick the ball into it." Am I crazy?

Soccer? Is that European football? The one where people run around for 45 minutes at a time and fake injuries?

Sorry I can't help you. But if I could, I wouldn't. We need to up our nemesis game. We've gone soft. I did hear Bambi say on numerous occasions that we are the worse nemesisisisis ever.

I've decided amongst all of the expected chaos with back-to-school and the usual activities, to get myself back into shape. I was doing terrific until right before my knee surgery, but I've slipped in a bad way.
With about 70 days until WDW, I am targeting to shed about 8lbs. The weight is actually a secondary target. I'm more about non scale victories. Things like not snacking at night, eating more veggies and just having a bit more room in when i button my pants\shorts.:crowded:

I agree with this gameplan, I need to do the same thing.

Golf sounds like a real good idea right about now. I need to find a local driving range though to shake off the rust though.

Good morning gentlemen,

The back to school crazyness is in full swing. Next week and I'll be on more. This week was the State Fair and then Toddler Tuesday at the Mall of America. Everyone had a great time but dang I'm tired.

Hang in there Norm, you'll get better.

Barry, loved the pics on Facebook

Everyone else, I'll do a better job of keeping up next week.

Being a Phillies fan...yes. I desperately need to watch a different sport. I even watched a couple of World Cup games out of sheer desperation.

It has been really hot the past few days. Summer is finally here! I hear ya. I have some issues with the ice bucket thing too. But no issues with charitable giving.

I had a lousy draft in another league too. One of those drafts where the guys you really want seem to go 1 or 2 picks before your turn.

1. Don't use your hands. Unless you're the goalie.

2. There are certain basic positions--forward, midfield, defender. They all have places they should be on the field that will promptly be ignored by U8 kids so they can all go chase the ball.

3. Tell them to have fun.

That's about all I have to say about that.

Quick - tell me everything you guys know about coaching U8 recreational soccer.

There is this wonderful internet tool called Google. You may have heard of it. Try typing in "Youth Soccer Drills." My advice is keep it simple and teach the basics of passing and dribbling. Also try and discourage them from bunching up.

And yes you're crazy

U8 Rec soccer is all about making sure the kids practice basic skills and have fun. Try this link to help you out.

Yes, you're crazy, and I don't know anything about youth soccer.

Good luck, we're all counting on you.

My DVC contract expires at age 70. I hope that isn't some foreshadowing. :crazy2:

There are about 10 basic soccer foot skills. If you can learn those and teach those to the kids each practice, then things are great. I used to spend my hour practices with 15 minutes individual skills (everyone has ball), 15 minutes passing (groups of 2 or 3), 15 minutes game strategy (throw in, corner kick), and 15 minutes of scrimmage, with breaks thrown in there.

As Mark said, teach them the positions, but expect them to struggle. Playing in space and playing without the ball are difficult concepts to grasp for some, even at older levels. It will be worse if you have some DB administrator on your rec league stacking the teams so his child can be grand champion of the world.
