Evening, men. Had an extended weekend that started on Thursday. We had our big cookout on Saturday and topped 75+ people. It was a blast but I am exhausted. I spent the morning driving to a Nike outlet to pick up some new kicks for the whole fam, then to my niece's Bday party and then spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning up from our cookout and then returning tables and chairs to various friends. I wish I had taken Monday off!


I'm not much of a soccer fan but congrats on DS and the win! Sounds like you all had a good time!

75+....that's a lot of time over the grill.

I have been pleasantly surprised at the level of soccer at the U20 World Cup. It has been fun to watch.

Today is DD's birthday. My princess Penny is 4. No idea where the time has gone as it seems like just yesterday that I held her for the first time.

Im sure we will. Im trying to convince girlfriend that we can miss thanksgiving at her dad's this year and extend our trip until Monday since her dad would be with us on the trip. Biggest issue with it is missing black Friday and cyber Monday because would probably use that spending money to pay for the extension, and ill be forced to crochet and sew gifts this year. I still have yarn from 4 years ago when I meant to make gifts to save money. .kinda got fed up with how it turned out and undid my work

Nothing wrong with giving it another go. Seems like a good trade off to me.

Another rainy day in the holler. My cabbage trail should have been in the ground two weeks ago and it may be early next week before I can get it out if the rain quits today. I'm glad I don't farm for a living.

MOrning Dads. Got the girl into her place at school with only issue being elevator out of order and having to shlep her stuff and a major WalMart run uup 5 flights of stairs. Had a dinner Saturday night with all and DD's roommate and then just a low key day yesterday once we got back home as the 3 of us were a bit tired.

4 day work week this week but only to get the kidney blasted again Friday - yes more kidney stones stories - this process has turned into a trilogy.

We got home a couple of hours ago. DS and his team won their game 4-0 today and later we watched Nigeria beat up on New Zealand 4-1 in the quarters of the U20 Women's World Cup.

And yes, people aren't happy unless they are outraged. Now people are hating on the ALS ice bucket challenge. Despite the amazing amount of money that it raised, people are complaining about it. Our friend's 9 yo took $10 of his own money to donate. I donated $10 for each of my family members and got my employer to match. But this is a bad thing. *sigh*

Hearing about folks raising issues about people "self promoting" by doing the ALS ice bucket challenge - seriously? 14 million has been rasied for ALS since mid July compared to under 2 million during the same time period last year and folks need to complain

Evening guys. Returned home this afternoon. It was a nice weekend, I got to relax and kick back, the kid got her Rescue Diver certification. Interesting thing happened on the dive today. A women was having issues that were originally thought to be seasickness but it turned out to be more than that. After about 30 minutes from the start of the first dive, they called everyone back and rushed into shore. Luckily DD got in her skill tests before it happened. She also saw in real time, emergency procedures including administering oxygen that she studied for the course. The woman was successfully evacuated from the boat and seemed to be fine when they put her in the ambulance. Speculation was a severe panic attack.

The weather has been pretty amazing this summer. Really mild temperatures. Unless you were stupid enough to vacation in the desert in the summer, but nobody's that dumb.

2 day to Disney and there is absolutely no way to get everything done before we head to the airport at 3AM on Wednesday (what was I thinking, 3AM????).

DD's hoop team won the summer championship on Thursday night, beating the only undefeated team in the league to take home new pink t-shirts. I do have to say the coaching was spectacular in this one. Lost her second title game by 2 points. They had a chance to win being up 10 with 3 minutes left. Coaching was sadly not as strong in this one. I would have spread the floor and run the clock out. Coach decided to continue attempting to fast break and take shot after shot. Overall a good couple of games.

Never a fan of Shark Weak, but I am now officially done with it. There may be a couple of programs that are legitimate and informative but by far, they are overly staged, overly dramatic, terribly acted and in most cases present lies as fact simply for titillation.

Watched part of “Lair of the Mega Shark” and it was awful. To paraphrase one scene... Ominous Voice: We lowered the cage and immediately three great whites appeared. One circled the cage to “probe for weaknesses.” Probe for weaknesses? Crap, Crap, Crap. You know they chummed for days, were lucky to get three great whites together, dumped the cage in the water and filmed one shark swimming near the cage. “Zombie Sharks” was nothing more than preventing a shark from swimming so water and hence oxygen stops flowing over their gills. Have someone put you in a choke hold and you will become a zombie.

These programs do a lot of harm. Shark Bad-Must Kill. Ask Peter Benchley his feelings now about shark decimation following Jaws.

Miami Beach is in the background of this picture taken during one of DD’s trips. They caught nine sharks that day so yes, they are just offshore. However, you have more of a chance getting killed by a cow trampling you than getting bitten by a shark. (True fact)

Kill Joy! We actual watch a few of the shows, but the effect of being scared isn't there for kids like it was when we were younger. I'm not really sure why shark week is even relevant any more.
