Never did the roommate thing. 1 BR apartment for $235 a month while in college. Have a safe trip.

Smart man. If there was a similar option within walking distance I have him looking into such. Our option will cost us $425 a month with the utilities included. Not too bad as the dorms were $395 per. With separate rooms at least they can also get away from one-n-other once they get tired of each other’s shenanigans.

Glad I'm not the only one. I love my dds, but there are those days I'm ready to send them to Disney to start working early. :lmao:

I’m certainly ready to have ours back at school. Ya’ love ‘em and all, but he needs to be occupied and occupied at some location other than my house. :lmao:

Thanks. Not sure if I'm George or Abe. Were you referring to the presidents or Costanza and Vigoda? Either is an upgrade. :lmao:

Or would you be Kramer?

heading to the local fair again today with DW's mom. then again tomorrow early for the pretty baby contest to see if he can win for the 4h year in a row or not. (not sure if i have already said this here before or not..) this year he has a secret weapon. he recently learned to do a wink while he tilts his head sideways and gives a thumbs up. its cute. lol. then after the baby contest is DW's family reunion where i will eat my weight in sweet corn. that family is farmers. he has a few rows of sweet corn growing every year and this year has been really good for the corn, his was averaging 7 feet on july 4th

Good luck at the fair. What part of IL do you call home? You may well be reasonably close to one of our other members over in Indiana who just happens to also work the land and would be happy to sell you your fill of corn I’m sure.

Well, it's part of a larger story that would have made for an incredible Trip Report. I would have called it something like National Lampoon's New England Vacation. Basically, anything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong.

Anyway, when we got to Bar Harbor, ME to visit Acadia National Park, we signed up to go whale watching. It was the only thing my wife had asked to do on the entire trip, and being an amazing husband, I made sure it would happen. When we piled onto the boat, the captain made an announcement warning us that the waves were choppy and they were seeing 3' groundswells on the open ocean.

My wife and I are landlubbers. We wouldn't know what a groundswell was if it smacked us upside the head and stole our wallets. Besides, this is the only thing she wanted to do, so we're not bailing now.

We get out into the open ocean and are immediately tossed around like Bobby Knight's folding chairs. This goes on for a good hour or so. The boat turns into a floating M*A*S*H unit, with people losing their lunch all over the place. Finally, after forever, the captain spots some whales.

So they stop the boat. We're still being tossed by waves. Did I mention it was summer? And very hot for New England? 90 degrees? Now the sun is beating down on us. Not only that, but the captain wants to make sure everyone on board gets to see the whales. So they start spinning the boat around.

I tossed my cookies. And my wife was jealous.

I can vouch for the saying that there are 2 stages of seasickness. In the first stage, you're afraid you're going to die. In the second, you're afraid you won't.

Once we saw the whales, the boat changed course. Not to head back to land. We headed out to sea for another hour to see puffins. They looked like little black specks on a rock. Finally, after a 3-hour tour (a 3-hour tour), we made it back to shore. I literally kissed the ground.

Have fun whale-watching, Barry!:thumbsup2

Yep…
You certainly have a back log of good stories :lmao:

If you don’t figure you’ll ever get around to trying to write that trip up, feel free to toss out some of the better jewels here. Sounds like there were a number of things that occurred which would qualify as bad ideas so they’d fit in this thread perfectly.

Founding fathers? More like the founding creepy uncles. Or maybe the founding wacky neighbors. Yeah, that's it. The wacky neighbors...

Wacky neighbors, eh?
I’ve been hanging ‘round here a while now and I’m just curious…
Just which of us would you say isn’t wacky? :rotfl2:

OK, this targeted marketing nonsense is truly nonsense.

Now just what have I Googled recently that makes Madison Avenue believe that I'm in the market for a new car or that I'd consider driving down to Vero Beach to buy such? If I'm going to be that close to Disney property, I'll be spending my money rather differently I guarantee you that.

Randall, unfortunately I couldn't get the Ravens game.....sorry :(

Norm, I sent you a text.

I did get the Monday night game vs the Eagles. Mark, I can send you photos since we sit on the visitors side about 11 rows up. If your boys have any particular favorites let me know.

Wave as you pass by Exit 37 on the NYS thruway. I'll wave back if I see you. :rotfl:

Love the HoF, I try to get down there at least once a year as it is only about an 1.5 hour drive from my house.

Safe Travels

Where are you in Syracuse? I was born there, we moved to North Syracuse when I was about 3 and stayed there until I was 15 when my mother threatened to divorce my father unless we moved to Florida.

My work week over. Time to start drinking.

Founding fathers? More like the founding creepy uncles. Or maybe the founding wacky neighbors. Yeah, that's it. The wacky neighbors...

Forgot I took this one last week. How about quirky bar patron?

NORM!

Thank you sir and the same for the Pirate Princess and yourself.

Here, here and cheers to the 3 of them for continued success and safety!

I'll toast to that.

Smart man. If there was a similar option within walking distance I have him looking into such. Our option will cost us $425 a month with the utilities included. The neighborhood about a mile away on one side of the campus isn't the safest of places so I am OK with her staying on campus. She is in a quad with two rooms separated by a bathroom. Her roommate is a good kid and they get along well. Two new roommates move on the other side this year so it could be interesting.

I am also ready for her to be back to school. Fun summer, lots of stuff done but now she can go away. She is probably going to Miami for grad school so in less than two more years she will be back home full time. Not sure how I feel about that.

Morning Men. Seems like I am in charge today, my boss emailed me yesterday afternoon and copied our corporate manager saying he will be out. Woohoo!! Pizza and beer in the breakroom!

Matt
The beer\pizza sound like it should be added to the company's policies and procedures!

Where are you in Syracuse? I was born there, we moved to North Syracuse when I was about 3 and stayed there until I was 15 when my mother threatened to divorce my father unless we moved to Florida.

Currently in Liverpool, just north of the city. I grew up in Weedsport which is about 25 minutes west of Syracuse.

I need to get the post count up before I leave. I think my multi post ability may stop working soon.:lmao::lmao:
Single posts are perfectly acceptable as long it's a meaningful post. Of course, 'meaningful' is subjective. :lmao:

Top O the Friday Morn'n Gents! DS off to school this morning :lmao: (he gives me crap every Sunday night during the summer about having to go back to work). He only has a half day so this weekend is basically the last summer weekend as he hits full time Monday and we move DD back to UTC next weekend. Luv her to death but time to goooooooooooo :rotfl2: Nephew is coming in to town to spend time with my ILs so we will get some family time in but looks like a rainy weekend around here. Everyone have a good weekend as the NFL gets into full time now :cool1:
We still have a few weeks until DDs head back to school. This time of the year I always have mixed emotions. As school starts, it's back to checking homework, remembering which day is gym, which is library, which is CCD.
Wait a second, what am I talking about, that's what the DW is for!:rotfl2:

Aside from ramping back up for school and activities, I get super psyched for the NFL to start.

They're like the founding fathers of the DISDads - it's like giving George and Abe a hard time :lmao:
That sure is an interesting paralell that you drew right there. I was thinking more Waldorf and Statler.
StatlerandWaldorf(2).JPG

You know, the more and more I read about the Beatles, the more I find Yoko a scapegoat. There were a lot more issues abound there. I can't see Paul in the same light I used to anymore.
I cannot factually dispute you. Although facts harm creativity so I avoid using them whenever possible. However, if I had 3 wishes, one would to be to go back in time to when Yoko met John Lennon, two would be to be changed to a woman so that I could fight Yoko to the death and three would be to turn me back to a man. Sure I'd be stuck in another year, but I could make lots of money betting on games where I knew the outcome and could possibly prevent Stitch's Great Escape from ever becoming an attraction at WDW.

My work week over. Time to start drinking.

Have one for me, Norm. I went from a bachelor weekend to working all weekend.
I am playing the role of Duty Manager this weekend <insert sophomoric humor here>
We have a senior manger (apparently me...I'm not senior management) to oversee all significant events and act as an escalation point, The Duty Mgr is supposed to be in the office Sat\Sun. On top of that, it's our disaster recovery weekend. BRUTAL.

My DW and DDs are at a Girl Scout camp near middle PA until Sunday afternoon and I can't take advantage of it any fashion.

I can tell you that I will not be making hamburger helper for dinner this weekend though. I try to learn from other's mistakes. :lmao:

Hey! We've been to Bar Harbor. Hey! We went on a whale watch cruise too! Hey! The water was choppy too! Hey! Nope not me, Jodi. :lmao:

Top O the Mornin Dads. Missed a thread close and already far into the new one while we were at the DaWorld. Lots of catching up to do but congrats to the kids, prayers to those in need and welcome. Got back in last night after long delay at MCO and a lost bag. Despite the return hassles we had a great trip and it was an enjoyable family time trip. Here are a couple of pics from fishing last week. We caught 24 bass. http://s1274.photobucket.com/user/d...6-4E0B-8957-CDBF1E490ADF_zps1ocadn6y.jpg.html http://s1274.photobucket.com/user/d...3-4B17-BFBD-5EE7E0F9048D_zpscnm6sxrm.jpg.html http://s1274.photobucket.com/user/d...5-488F-98B4-457C8AF2DDFA_zpsyyuiwbiq.jpg.html

Nice.

I love a Disney Bass Fishin' trip!

MRI done. I knew the tech that did the test, so she let me see the images. She pointed out the fluid on the knee, but couldn't tell about any tears. I have follow-up appointment for results on Tuesday.

It was almost 20 years ago, lacked central air, and had a laundry in the basement that no one used. Still, it was what I could afford. I was able to walk to UL and saved on the parking pass.

Now just what have I Googled recently that makes Madison Avenue believe that I'm in the market for a new car or that I'd consider driving down to Vero Beach to buy such? If I'm going to be that close to Disney property, I'll be spending my money rather differently I guarantee you that.

I was looking at Vero Beach since we are going there in Fall Break for a few days. Maybe your targeted marketing read something on my computer while mingling here in the DisBoards? :surfweb: :badpc:

Norm, I sent you a text.
.

I saw it. I had to check with the boss and DW hadn't made it home from work yet.

Forgot I took this one last week. How about quirky bar patron?

NORM!

My hero.

I am also ready for her to be back to school. Fun summer, lots of stuff done but now she can go away. She is probably going to Miami for grad school so in less than two more years she will be back home full time. Not sure how I feel about that.

All that college finally smartened her up to the fact that Florida winters are way better than New York winters?

Sounds fun? Should we refer to you as Gilligan Oblivious? :sail:

Founding fathers? More like the founding creepy uncles. Or maybe the founding wacky neighbors. Yeah, that's it. The wacky neighbors...

Wacky neighbors. Yeah, I can go with wacky. :thumbsup2

Morning all. My day ends early today (2) and I have an MRI on my knee. Don't want to regret losing $, but in this case,it may be a good idea.
See what happens when you do some exercise? :crutches:

3 1/2 more hours of work, then it's off on a two week road trip. Starting out going through Detroit and into Canada and on to Niagara Falls where I hope to meet up with Brian and Brent. Then Cooperstown, NY for the baseball hall of fame, some hiking in Vermont's Green Mountain National Forest and singing "I'm On A Boat!" with Tim and his family in CT. Whale watching off of Rhode Island, some exploring of New Hampshire and Maine seashores, walking the Freedom Trail in Boston, then a couple of days in New York City. Then we'll head south along NJ, take the ferry into Delaware where we'll have some of the pizza that Mrs. Captain_Oblivious claims to be her favorite. (She's setting some high expectations, Mark.) Then it's off to Virginia for a little bit of time in Shenandoah National park, a day in Pittsburgh, a stop at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH, then back home.
Weather forecast is getting more grim for Wednesday. I'm starting to get worried. :sad2:

Is anyone else exhausted just reading that? Because I'm not gonna lie, I had to take a break half way though typing it to take a nap.
:lmao:

Ok, so we decided to go forward with remodeling and finishing the basement. I cried a little as I wrote out that deposit check, all but assuring no Disney trip next year, no new car this year and lots of peanut butter and jelly for lunch. Job starts when we head out to Disney on the 20th so we won't be around for the demolition and framing. To be completed by mid September and plans exist for a blow out Halloween party. Your all invited! Except CJ of course. We'll post pics for him so he can feel like he was there.

The vision is a large family room with a television for watching movies and shows (size TBD, but BIG is a must), a separate TV for the Wii and PS4, a third in the bar....Oh, did I forget to mention the full bar we are putting in?:thumbsup2 Silly me.....A exercise and game room (with more tv's of course) and lots of new storage to keep our crap hidden. Plans are in place to pick up some Disney art while in the world for the bar and family room. Will try to take some before and after pics to post.
Maybe you should think of getting a screen and protector for the largest viewing area. I have an HD projector and the picture is amazing- when I'm projecting 16'x10'. It is killer and super clear projecting 'smaller'.

Well, since Brian won't be there with you, maybe this time when your families meet for pizza it won't be a 2 hour wait for a table.
:rotfl::lmao::rotfl:

Was talking with Tim a bit ago and he wanted me to tell you guys he says hi.

Hi.

He said he's been real busy and will stop by when he can.

Here's a picture of how busy he is.

I wasn't sure you were gonna post it here so I added to to the FB page. It was a busy day- feeding the baby, swimming, drinking, rope swinging, sun bathing, driving- shall I go on?

Don't mix those drinks up!
Tell me about it. I already had my milk at breakfast. :roll eyes:

Soda spitting on the keyboard funny.
Hopefully it wasn't your keyboard.

Hay to Tim! :wave2:
:wave2:

I'm actually more worried about Tim's reaction than the baby's if the drinks got switched.
Exactly. :rotfl:

Hey Fed… well I finally did it. Backed the boat in without the plug. Luckily I remembered when I got out to unhook the boat. I hopped back in the truck and yanked the boat out of the water. Water poured out of the bilge for about 2 minutes. Glad I realized or we could of had a really short trip. :rolleyes2

I guess you can add my face on to the stupidpeople.net web page.

Just got back from the fair. Child ate half of my cheese burger, half my cheese sticks and at least 2/3 of my cuos of tea. He better be growing soon to show where this foodis disappearing to!

Also ran into a few ladies I went to school with. They asked how child was doing since they hadn't seen us since before his surgery (will explain again later once I get sleep.. but its the reason weare making our trip in nov, his make a wish trip) and I didn't have him with me at the time. They laughed when I said he was running on a ride with an unlimited ride band somewhere. Brought him over once I found him again (he was with grandmother who had a dead phone)

That's alot of pressure on Brent and I to kick off the DISDad meets...

Gotta get to bed, I have a big day tomorrow... :thumbsup2

Bayley is really looking forward to seeing Madison...

Glad the plumbing is done and no significant damage!

It's always nice to get away where it's quiet and you can relax. We spent a long weekend in Maine earlier this summer and it was a lot of fun.

Hey....If you pay 30 somewhat dollars to tour the falls you can easily see the backside of water. Of course it's a little more violent as it comes down a bazillion gallons a minute.:lmao::lmao:

Still not the same. :rotfl2:

Pretty much the only downside to the whole trip was the lack of wildlife, which is a big reason we do Algonquin. Mostly chipmunks and squirrels, one turkey and blue heron, lots of dogs and cats along the rural roads, and a couple of deer, which you can see usually 1/2 an hour outside the city. No bears or moose, but my buddy staying in Algonquin saw both :confused3

Yikes…
Glad the damage was minor and the timing wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
Also good that it got straightened out fairly quick.

As for the VHS tapes, we’ve only just recently eradicated all the old ones we had.
When it came right down to it, there really was not very much on them worth saving or worrying about.

I don't think there was anything priceless, there were regular movies, all we have on DVD now, and a bunch of tapes from WAY back, like during the teenage years etc. Most were not labeled, but I suspect old MuchMusic specials (likely weird al specials), simpsons eps I'd record etc. There was a recording of the last Leafs game at Maple Leaf Gardens, but I never bothered to see it (worked that night, IIRC), and they lost (what are the odds?):lmao: I know any wedding videos were safe. The only thing I could think of that might have any value was a video I made back in '03 of our trip to WDW and MK. I would like to find it, because I'd like to see what I got on it. I know I tried to record the HM, and I want to see what I saw around the grounds. (Like the remains of the submarine lagoon, still should have been there when we went. Also character greetings in the Rose Garden etc.) (also sadly I think I caught me running into a pole while recording, but to my credit, I think it jumped out in front of me.):rotfl2:

That is sweet, I'd like to go there some day. I'm pretty much a 1/2 hour train ride away from the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Was your sex tape with Paris Hilton in that batch? She might be available for a re-filming. :lmao:

I have higher standards thanks :rotfl2:

Good Morning David, CJ and the rest of you Dads!

Good morning :)

Morning all. This is the last weekend before school starts on Wednesday. I am ready to kick them both out of the house now. No plans this weekend, but I'll celebrate on Wed when they get back to school. :teacher: :drinking1: :lmao:

Your trip looked fun on fb. I've thought about doing something like that, but my dds are at those ages now where I'm not sure I could survive with them not having some sort of technology device to entertain themselves. :sad2:

I have higher standards thanks :rotfl2:
?

Unfortunately, I don't. My new money making plan is for me to do a sex tape with Paris Hilton, and then charge people $ for me to NOT release it. :lmao:

See what happens when you do some exercise? :crutches:
:

Exactly. I survived 20 years without any exercise and never sustained an injury. I told my dr I was going to sue him for encouraging me to exercise. :lmao:

My dad did that once we had a boat when I was a kid. I didn't know anything about boats, apparently just like Tim, but I remember asking why the boat was sinking. :lmao:

Just got back from the fair. Child ate half of my cheese burger, half my cheese sticks and at least 2/3 of my cuos of tea. He better be growing soon to show where this foodis disappearing to!

How do they do that? If I buy a meal to share with one of my dds, which rarely happens, they they want to eat all of it. But, if I buy us each a meal, then they only eat about 1/3 of their food, and I eat all mine plus all their food. I can't let it go to waste. :confused3 :headache:

Morning, men. I had my first conference call of the weekend. I'm heading into the office now to deal with 48 hours of a debacle. I'm still trying to fins a way to fit a steak into my schedule. Last night I got wings and stuffed pretzel and watched the Pirates\Padres game. I'm hoping to stop home late afternoon to let my dog out and eat some dinner before heading back into the office for the evening. I have to have some good karma coming my way for this weekend.

So not the Danville in the Tri-State area?
I was thinking that same thing!

My girls are the same way. My oldest DD got a taste for steak. I now order her one just for her. Although when it comes to fair\snack food, my oldest is more likely to share with me legitimately while my youngest hordes it like we're in the Great Depression and would tear off a thumnail sized piece of pretzel for me to eat!

I wasn't sure you were gonna post it here so I added to to the FB page. It was a busy day- feeding the baby, swimming, drinking, rope swinging, sun bathing, driving- shall I go on?
That sounds like lot of hard work. You should probably take it easy for a few days and do something relaxing. :)
