DIS Dads DDC XXXIII: Bad Idea Factory!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Case in point:
I’ve seen where at least one clever individual used duct tape to defeat the safety kill switch on a chainsaw (a totally rational thing to do wouldn’t you agree). He then purposefully tied said motorized implement to the end of a length of rope, cranked it up and proceeded to swing the whole contraption about his head like a lasso with the intention of having the business end trim the top of his overgrown hedges.
Our newest invention. Hedge trimmer, hair clipper and decapitator, all in one!!! :rotfl2: :lmao:

Agree with Andy. I've enjoyed the daily bad idea. We need to start captioning these. I can hear one of those idiots now saying, "Let it go. I got it".
I think just about every one of them can be appropriately captioned with the ever popular "Hey y'all, watch this!" :lmao:

Hi All!

Been a while since I've posted here, it's been a busy July, just moved into a new house, finally out of the IL's! If I could, I'd invite you all over to christen the new house with mucho Bacon.

And we'll be in DL in a week, can't wait! This is week is the calm before the storm, the meditation period, because even though we have some very small children, it'll be an all out Commando war when we hit the DLR. Hoah...

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the heat!

Were pink slips a concern? I must have more missed that post. Glad things are ok.

Not an immediate concern (so far as I know for sure), but times are still pretty bad for textiles, folks do get let go ‘round here without much warning and almost no one’s leaving results in a new hire. It’s a bit like the sword of Damocles. We all know it’s there; it could drop at any moment; best one doesn’t contemplate it too often.

There’s got to be a summer movie of blockbuster proportion in there somewhere.
You should get started on the screenplay
:rotfl:

Didn't Lester say trade me for something good and I'll look to resign in the off-season?

There's speculation around that, but I doubt it's true. He just said he wouldn't rule out a return. But given how bad our execs are at burning bridges, I doubt he'll be back.

Do you get to see many games?

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl:

Congrats on the new house!

Speaking of new houses, the wife has a contractor in taking down a wall and remodeling some areas of the "new" house we moved into last week. So instead of going home to a construction zone tonight, I'm going to go drink at the Sox game with Jim and CJ. :thumbsup2

Stayed up to watch Lone Survivor last night, I thought it was really good.
I was on the edge of my seat the whole movie. Scary to think that is what our service men and SEALS in particular have to do on a daily basis.

I'd love to do a Disney cruise to Alaska... Hopefully when the kids are big enough I can convince the wife. Had her ready to do a 4 night Bahamas trip this year, but we decided the boy was still too young...
Too young you say?

You must think we are out of our minds bringing 3 kids, 8, 3, 16months on a cruise. :lmao:

The good thing is they have scratched Lester from pitching tonight so they can trade him. :headache::mad: I guess we are a small market team now. New management philosophy: Do not sign anyone for more than 4 years. We got lucky and won a world series last year doing that so we have a new business model.:sad2::sad2:
I hope the Yankess get him. We are hurting.

Did I just say that? :confused3 :badpc:

21 days for us. No change in flight times, but we booked a late flight back so we could get about 6-7 hours in the parks before we leave.
Normally we like to leave late but having the baby, we want to get home at a decent hour.

Have fun in MD. If you see a guy that looks like Santa Clause named Randall, you may want to stay clear.
He is about 3 hours away from OC. I should be safe. :scratchin

Thanks Juliana.

Will probably be in town around 5. Had an eventful yesterday. DS broke his left hand ring finger at hoop camp on Monday.
.
DD had to go in next for x rays on the foot. Doc says that he cannot see a break on the film.
Geez, you guys are keeping the doctors busy. Hopefully everyone heals quickly!

Plumber stopped by and added the great news that it will be $3K to put in the sink that is going into the new bar in the basement.:headache: I think I should have been a plumber.
Ummm….. 3K? Time to skip the sink. :crazy2:

Put the game on tonight. We'll be on the left of the screen when viewing the batter. I wore my Kentucky T-shirt just for you.
Hummm…. I might have to watch a Red Sux game tonight.

:lmao::rotfl2::lmao: Texted CJ this morning, not heard back yet. He must be sleeping in.:thumbsup2 or putting together diabolical plans on taking out that achilles prior to his departure tomorrow.. :scared: Bring the voodoo doll, we may need it.
He might sleeping off all that alcohol he bought when he landed yesterday. :rotfl2:

First, my regular Bad Idea of the Day:

Seems like a smart move now…. we'll see how DW feels about it when you get home. :scared1:

Didn't Lester say trade me for something good and I'll look to resign in the off-season?

Yup, thats what he said. Now I am going to ask a math question and see if he is coming back:

Red Sox 4 years, $100-122M

Yankees 6 years, $160-180M

Dodgers 6 years, $160-180M

Where would you go. And just for reference, this is in American dollars not that Canadian stuff.

A late morning check in. Hope all are enjoying the day. Played tennis last night. The shoe things really helped. I had never had that before and wish I had tried something sooner. I'm going to make an appointment with sports Dr to see what's wrong with the knee.

We may not get the game. KY passed a law that only permits pro games on tv if a KY player is on the team. :lmao:

Hope your children recover from their injuries quickly.

I know what's wrong with it. You keep playing tennis.:lmao::rotfl2::lmao: That will be a $25 co-pay.

Thanks. Lots of ice will speed the recovery.

Welcome back! Congrats on the new house! Enjoy the vacation!

I hope the Yankess get him. We are hurting.

Did I just say that? :confused3 :badpc:

That is what my guess is. They'll offer him a lot more than the Sox will in free agency. The talk shows are saying the Sox are looking at making a run for Scherzer instead. Not sure what makes anyone think they'll pay what it takes to get him either.

The newest rumor is that they are planning to trade lackey as well. that should go over well with the season ticket holders that are paying tens of thousands for the chance to see a last place team. When did we become the Marlins?:rolleyes1:sad2::sad2:

Welcome to the City of Champions. :thumbsup2

See you tomorrow night. I'm going to try to get into the city around 5.

:thumbsup2 you going on one? :confused3

Remy's at 5:00. Looking forward to the game.

I think he feels bad about all that voodoo stuff he did to CJ and needs to buy him a beer to make up for it.:lmao::lmao:

The good thing is they have scratched Lester from pitching tonight so they can trade him. :headache::mad: I guess we are a small market team now. New management philosophy: Do not sign anyone for more than 4 years. We got lucky and won a world series last year doing that so we have a new business model.:sad2::sad2:

A bit bummed that Lester isn't starting but I guess I will show up anyway. You want to talk about bad management philosophy, I have stories I can tell you.

Sound good. If you go to Cheers, say hi to Norm & Cliff.

Faneuil Hall is tomorrow so i'll stop in and yell "Norm" for you.

Glad you made it OK. Texted you this morning. Will probably be in town around 5. Had an eventful yesterday. DS broke his left hand ring finger at hoop camp on Monday. X rays and then off to another day at camp. He got to play against Manute Bole's kid yesterday. Says he is 7 feet tall, athletic as he11 and basically kicked his a$$.:lmao::rotfl2::lmao: Projected as the top NBS draft pick in 2018. He now has more perspective on his basketball level and plans to work on his skills.

DD had to go in next for x rays on the foot. Doc says that he cannot see a break on the film. Sprained 4th and 5th metatarsals and needs to be off her feet and icing for at least a week, maybe up to 3 weeks. We are hoping to have her back for hoop playoffs in two weeks.

Plumber stopped by and added the great news that it will be $3K to put in the sink that is going into the new bar in the basement.:headache: I think I should have been a plumber.

Sorry to hear about the kids. My day was better. Did a mini pub crawl around the hotel area last night. First stop was the Barracuda a little off the beaten path. Was greeted by Key West memorabilia and I thought WTH? Had the chowder there which was OK. Second stop was the Beantown Pub. Cute and chatty bartender. Nice place, friendly patrons and was able to strike up some good conversation with other solos drinking there. The hotel has a bar called the Last Hurrah (a great book by Edwin O'conner). Excellent place for whiskey aficionados. Had the bartender make one of there specially drinks, some thing with vodka and ginger beer. Pretty good and I thought the ginger would have a stomach calming effect.

Today was a late breakfast of Eggs Benedict at the Beantown and a partial walk down the Freedom trail. Love that history stuff.

I'll be the guy sitting next to him, constantly looking over my shoulder for an eye-patch wearing runner attempting to cut my achilles with a shiv. :thumbsup2

I'll be the one laughing at both of them.

Woke up at 5:00, was up for about an hour and was able to fall asleep again. My eyes finally opened at 11:00. That rarely happens.

Speaking of new houses, the wife has a contractor in taking down a wall and remodeling some areas of the "new" house we moved into last week. So instead of going home to a construction zone tonight, I'm going to go drink at the Sox game with Jim and CJ. :thumbsup2

Seems a more productive use of your time if you ask me.

Hummm…. I might have to watch a Red Sux game tonight.

He might sleeping off all that alcohol he bought when he landed yesterday. :rotfl2:

See above. And yes, tonight's game is Must Watch TV.

The newest rumor is that they are planning to trade lackey as well. that should go over well with the season ticket holders that are paying tens of thousands for the chance to see a last place team. When did we become the Marlins?:rolleyes1:sad2::sad2:

Check the standings Bubba. We are third in our division. The friend in DC is pissed off the fish took the first two from the Nats.

CJ, Paul and Jim - enjoy the game tonight. Traveling for a soccer game tonight so I hope that you will still be in those great seats when we get back and turn on the TV. It will be late innings so you might have left by then. :lmao:

Okay, so we are just over four months out for next trip to WDW, first week of Decemeber, and now i hear rumblings we may see first snow as early as first week of October.

I'll be the guy sitting next to him, constantly looking over my shoulder for an eye-patch wearing runner attempting to cut my achilles with a shiv. :thumbsup2

Sounds like you hadagoodnight

I'll watch it like I watch most baseball now a days...... On the DVr with a lot of fast forwarding

Do you get to see many games?

Surprisingly, there are lots of KY players on pro teams. Denver had two linebackers from UK last season. Since we don't grow players on trees like they do in Florida, many play for KY schools since it is a guaranteed start. We don't have many locals - just recruit well. :lmao:

You could invite us. Problem is some of us would show up. :lmao:

Enjoy the new house and DL.

:

Sword of Damocles? Stats, you are taking the thread to a whole, higher level. I'm sure my brain really doesn't want to put that much effort into it. :crazy2:

Ummm….. 3K? Time to skip the sink. :crazy2:

Peeing outside is great. Hand sanitizer is cheap and I can install that.

Yup, thats what he said. Now I am going to ask a math question and see if he is coming back:

Red Sox 4 years, $100-122M

Yankees 6 years, $160-180M

Dodgers 6 years, $160-180M

Taxes are high in all 3 states. I'd go where the weather is warmest. But, I can be easily had for a 10th of that. :lmao:

I know what's wrong with it. You keep playing tennis.:lmao::rotfl2::lmao: That will be a $25 co-pay.

Thanks. Lots of ice will speed the recovery.

Thanks. You can deduct it from my signing bonus. I've been icing it for 6 weeks now without much relief. It did get better on the predinisone pills. The shoe inserts made an immediate impact on my foot. I doubt there is a device that will help it, but maybe a steroid to get rid of the inflammation.

Check the standings Bubba. We are third in our division. The friend in DC is pissed off the fish took the first two from the Nats.

Hmmmm.....I thought you were complaining about how bad the Marlins were. :crazy2:

That's a lot of injury crap to deal with! Hope everyone mends quickly and some cash mysteriously shows up!

Competing against elite talent puts things in perspective very quickly.
I once raced against Geroy Simon in a track meet in HS. The name means little to Americans, unless they are Maryland Terps football fans or follow Canadian Rules Football. Google the name. It was like a wounded sea lion racing against a gazelle.

I agree on the inserts.
Hope the visit with the sports doc goes well. The first time I went for my knee was before a family trip to WDW. Went like this.
Good news: Nothing is torn or structurally impaired.
Bad news: You have no cartilage left and basically have arthritis.

I was 32!
They gave me a cortisone shot and I was good to go. Never had problems with it after that...well until the unexpected ACL tear.

And as a bonus here’s an entire video of Bad ideas that was suggested to me.
Plenty of poor choices here and it’s even set to the music of The Moron’s Nation Anthem.

That made me cringe...

Very cool. I too will be interested in your thought’s on that ship. We wanted to try to get aboard either Oasis or Allure next spring, but the our scheduling and their itineraries weren’t meshing. We’d have had to travel in the summer after the rates shot up and being new ships in higher demand, there aren’t many deals available right now. so we’ll save that trip for later on. Instead we were forced to slum it and booked an Eastern Itinerary aboard the Disney Fantasy.

Not that I’m unhappy with that outcome…

We are really stoked for this Oasis cruise... And yeah, it can get pricey especially in peak season. I will be sure to give you guys a mini trip report upon my return. We booked with a T.A. who had a group rate on the ship, plus an OBC so was hard to pass up.
