Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Everything I have seen says it got canceled due to cost. The track is about $1M per mile, and the additional trains are $3-$4M each.
Thank you for the info, decided to research some more and one article says it actually would cost about $50 million a mile, do not blame disney one bit. Would be cool though to have a complete monorail system.

Edit: 25 more post to 2K

Good men's tennis Wimbledon Championship today. Women's final was not very competitive yesterday, but Canada was represented by a player yesterday. She lost, but yeah Canada. :cheer2:

Sounds like y'all had a blast!
.

:thumbsup2

Now THAT sounds like a blast. And a nice day to relax following it is a perfect combination..

Thanks. Two drunk guys setting off fireworks is always a good idea. :lmao:

Everyone had a great time. When DW and I were first married, I wanted a house out in the country to be able to do those type of things. She grew up out in the country, and wanted a house in the city because of all the time driving. We went to a friend's house who has 4 acres, so there was plenty of room for all that stuff.

Here's a little known fact or a tale from a bus driver. When the monorail construction was initially occurring, some of the supports would sink into the swamp. I'm sure they improved they technology & construction, which added to that cost as well. I'm still hoping for a ski lift type transportation from AKL to AK, as that is the only WDW DVC resort without a 2nd mode of transportation.

Just checking in…
Hope all had one fine weekend.
Now I do believe I need a beer (or three).

Morning guys. It has Beenhakker a beautiful weekend here. I have spenetrować some Goodman quality time with The kids.

The hobby situation is PB and Beverly. My boss didnt like me showing factual evidence to support his accusation against me. He is know forcing himself into my schedule. I have a mandatory weekly meetingiem with him and reporter due every Friday. He wants me out, but i dont quit easily. To be honest i cant afford to quit right now anyway.

That will get filed under the heading of: Not Good…
Sorry you’re having to deal with that nonsense.

Thanks guys. Sorry for the spelling, I forgot to switch the keyboard over from Polish translating.

That ‘splains it.
I first thought it was simple blind rage cropping on in your typing.

Morning all. It is another beautiful day here. Well, I finally figured out why a group would want an overweight, out of shape me to play tennis. Apparently, there is the over 40 tournament next weekend and they wanted me because I am so ................... over 40 and still have a decent serve. It feels good to be recruited. :lmao:

I imagine what obstacles I could accomplish. I'm thinking maybe those first step things would be about it.

On the positive side they did want you at least.

I know exactly what you mean there are some I think I could do but I know I don't have the upper body strength that is required for most of those.

Evening guys. Hope everyone had a great holiday and weekend. We eventually made our way up to the lake and had some nice family time. Came home today to do a lot around the house. Back at it tomorrow... :thumbsup2

Sounds like much fun was had this weekend. Let's hope tomorrow is a kind Monday and let's us ease back into the work week.

Well you know there Normie, Disney is working on a top secret teleportation station for AKL. That is why they put it so far away from everything else, in case they create a black hole that swallows the resort. The first try was at Epcot, anyone else notice the bottomless hole in the middle of the park? They told you it was the lake but those of us in the know understand what really happened.

A kind Monday? I do not think you understand what this word means. I have 3 meetings before 8am and I got 5 work request over the weekend that have to be done Monday morning.

Morning guys. Kids watched YouTube videos of the Disney water parks yesterday. We have never been to either one. Do any of you have preferences to which one you would go to?

Good Morning guys, hope all is well, another 4 day week and I will be taking my first vac day in over a year. DD and I are excited about our trip to Great Wolf Lodge.

Also excited because DisneyStore.com released the POTC attraction poster shirt today, never thought I would wake up, order a shirt and then get ready for work.

Will be grilling, enjoying a few cold ones and later lighting off some pyrotechnics - drag is it is illegal in our town so have to be very careful.
Good thinking. You don't want to draw any attention to yourself while you're shooting off multicolored pyrotechnics that whistle and boom. :thumbsup2

Hey hey dads. Hope you're all well. Morning David. Off to the Ren Faire to meet up with Barry and his clan. Have a great weekend all.
It was a great weekend. I'm just glad that thief gave returned your baby to you.

Praying for you duck. Any chance you can plead your case to his boss?

Thanks guys. Sorry for the spelling, I forgot to switch the keyboard over from Polish translating.
That's OK. We just assumed you were hitting the Polish beer stash again. :thumbsup2

‘Morning all…
My but the alarm clock seemed to be just a might more vengeful in its instance of consciences this morning.

Yep… your Monday sounds like the classic that we all know and loath.
“Kind” would be a bit of a surprise. “Vindictive” is a more likely adjective.

My two cents: Both parks are great and a lot of fun (but get to whichever one you chose early).
To me the apparent differences are that Typhon is a little more laid back. Everything seems to run at a slightly slower pace. Blizzard conversely has just a bit more adrenalin injected into it. Teens and action oriented folks tend to like “The Beach” a bit better and groups with a wide range of ages will often see “The Lagoon” as a more accommodating option.

I queued Cheers on Netflix and have been watching it. I enjoy those little known facts from Cliff.

My four day work weeks help that immensely.

Morning guys. Kids watched YouTube videos of the Disney water parks yesterday. We have never been to either one. Do any of you have preferences to which one you would go to?

I posted on FB. I would vote to skip the water park, save $, and enjoy the WDW resort pool and water slide.

Also excited because DisneyStore.com released the POTC attraction poster shirt today, never thought I would wake up, order a shirt and then get ready for work.

Enjoy the vacation. The power of the Internet is so cool.

Yes, there is no bidding war or travels on my free agency tour. Still, it did feel good.

I watched a replay of ANW last night. There was a dad and son trying to qualify. The dad went first, and on the warp wall, it sounded like a ligament or tendon popped. I saw the ambulance crew put him on the stretcher, but I never found out what it was. I'm afraid I would pop something climbing the stairs to start the run.

'mornin fellas. Hope everyone made it through the weekend with all limbs attached. pirate:

Trying to get back in to the swing of the DIS. Seems like it is always slower here in the summer. :beach:

Been trying to read up on the DHS Frozen festivities but it seems by the time we get there (Sep. 21) the party will only be a memory. Oh well, it will keep DHS as a 1/2 day for us.

We haven't told the kids we are going yet. We might tell them we are going to Disney but 'forget' to mention we are also going on a cruise. :confused3

I hope everyone has a great week… except for Barry. I hope there was a mistake in the court system and he gets called in for Jury Duty. :rolleyes1

Yup. And I was dumb enough to offer to start work at 6am this week due the kids being a different summer camps this week. That wake-up call was an extra kick in the head.

No such luck, Tim. When I called in on Wednesday night I was thanked for my service and dismissed. :woohoo:

I had prepared an eloquent speech for this space, letting you know that in my old age, I may "forget" that you hadn't told your kids about their Disney trip when we're up there in August, but there were ways you could keep my memory fresh (ex: large piles of cash and/or bacon). I then I realized my own kids don't know the full story about our October trip yet either. So it's probably best to agree to mutually keep our traps shut.

Top 'O the Mornin gents. Sounds like a great weekend had by all. We had great weather and great family time this weekend just having a simple America weekend -- and no issues with authorities from the multiple firework motar tube launches so all was good. Two work weeks left til DaWorld.

Sorry to hear as I just loath what I refer to as fact free opinion folks who think because they say it, it is true. Keep fighting with facts and positive thoughts sent your way.
Morning all. We had a great time riding 4 wheelers, setting off fireworks, eating BBQ, and drinking beer. We will go to Mass tonight, but there is nothing else on the calendar today. Glad to hear you are feeling better. Never tried to grill a lobster tail, so bravo. Sorry to hear it David. Prayers.
Sounds like a great 4th! Hope the 4 wheeling was before too many adult beverages

We are partial to Typhoon Lagoon as we like the more tropical theming. Both have young kid areas which we also thought were better at TL than BB.

A lot of people have been begging Disney to extend the Frozen event, I imagine they could but I assume they know it'll take away from MNSSHP sales, unless they had it only on non party days.

But that's like 7 am here… doesn't seem so bad.

Hey, a man can dream can't he? :cloud9:

I still can't believe we are missing each other by a few weeks.

I'm sure we will have plenty of Disney talk. We'll just put the kids on the tube and tow them 75' behind the boat when we want to discuss current plans. :thumbsup2

Didn't think of that angle. What my kids don't know won't hurt them. :rolleyes1

"I think they can hear us, hit the throttle and try to lose them around the other side of the island!"

A few pictures from the weekend's Independence Day Holiday...
(Canadians - just use your imagination to replace the Stars & Stripes with a Maple leaf so you can enjoy along with with rest of us)

My hometown did something new this year - a paper lantern launch before the fireworks on the shores of Lake Michigan. Lanterns could be purchased from local businesses for $10. Half of the proceeds went to the FourthFest Organizing committee, and half went to the Honor Flight Network (charities that focus on getting veterans to the war memorials in DC). Lanterns were launched in honor of a veteran - so we launched one each for my dad and both of Bambi's grandfathers.

We live less than a mile from Lake Michigan, so so we are able to walk to the beach and avoid the gigantic traffic mess. We went down early to enjoy the nice weather (but cooooold water!) with some bubbles and football.

2-IMG_4520.JPG

As the instructions said, a single firework would be launched at 8:55 to indicate that the lanterns were to be launched. Well, about about 8:47, a firework was shot off. No one really knew what was going on, but we soon saw lanterns in the sky, so we started ours as well.

9-IMG_4533.JPG

20140704_204636.jpg

Everything comes assembled in one kit - you just gently shake open the lantern like you would a trash bag to fill it with air. A few layers of gel-soaked paperboard is suspended below the open bottom. You light that, and it fills the lantern with warm air and light. Within a few minutes, it begins to rise up, so you just let go and off it floats.

7-IMG_4529.JPG

8-IMG_4530.JPG

There were hundreds, if not thousands of them rising from all along Racine's 3+ miles of beaches and lake front. We were on the north end of town and there was a gentle southern wind, so most of them flew up and over us.

4-IMG_4523.JPG

6-IMG_4527.JPG

It would have been cooler we had waited 10 or 15 minutes to let it get a bit darker out, but it was still a really cool experience seeing all those lanterns gently floating away. These pictures really don't do it justice.

Thank you sir, she's been talking about this trip since the sec. I booked it lol I think it'll be fun and good DD and daddy time.

I also was hoping they would extend it into Oct because it looks like fun but like you said what DD doesn't know won't kill her, she loves MNSSHP so she would have a blast either way.
