Hello DisDads:

I just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and if people are traveling, I hope that their journey is safe and sound. Take care.

Evening guys....been a long day, but tomorrow will likely be longer...

The hardest thing I did was give the eulogy at my father's funeral. Then afterward the stories started. What could have been a bad day ended up with much laughter. Stay strong and remember the good times. Thinking of you and your family today.

Kudos to you for having two children? TMI. Not that there is anything wrong with that. :crazy2: :lmao:

I am not qualified to care for myself, much less my two dds.

Thankfully I only had one. At times I ask myself, "Why did I procreate?"

Saw your earlier post and we will finally have a trip that overlaps. We can ponder the Why did I questions over adult beverages. First two are on me. ESPN Club or Belle Vue Lounge?

Great day of football. Couldn't have predicted most of the games!

Speak for yourself. I knew the Dolphins were going to lay an egg and I guess I should be grateful to the Pats for keeping the Fins playoff hopes alive.

Same thing here. My big issue is whether to have a healthy lunch like most Mondays (you know, the whole "I'm going to be healthy this week" crap), or go for my weekly "Screw it, it's Friday, I'm going to binge" lunch.

Seeing as I led off the day with a power breakfast of cold pizza and arizona ice tea, I think I know where I'm headed...

I vote screw it.

So what's lunch? Mozzarella sticks, onion rings, wings and beer?

I'm in. Tell me when and where.

What the? Double posted. I didn't do it, must be the site. Swear I didn't.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

CJ, what happened to the phins!?! They could have just done us a favor last week and let us have the 1 seed if they planned to just let Buffalo walk all over them anyway.

Well, maybe you can beat the Jets next week.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Given the way CJ and other Fin's fans reacted after beating the Pats last week, it seemed like their season was complete. Maybe the team took that vibe and stopped playing? :confused3

Father in law was sent to the hospital this morning. Wasn't feeling well yesterday while at DD hoop game (we lost by 2 to a team we are better than for those interested). Didn't feel any better later in the day. This morning is in the hospital. Ultrasound has found he had a gall stone, but it is not in the gall bladder. It is in the tube outside the bladder. I can only imagine the pain as I had my gall bladder removed after asking them to just kill me and get it over with during the painful attacks. Not sure how they plan to resolve it yet, maybe surgical, waiting to here. This after he has been dealing with pain in his leg and feet for a few months after having a hip replaced. We are all hoping for a quick solution, but not looking like it.

Good morning Dads. Keep the spirits and positive thoughts going Brent - we are here for ya.
Also want to thank all for the well wishes yesterday for DDs consultation on her knee and to answer one of the questions, yes tore her meniscus twice as a travel / club soccer player. We were prepped for bad but unfortunately received worse. She is going to likely need a meniscus transplant but before she can have this she needs what's called a High Tibial Osteotomy. Doc explained DD has one of the more complicated knee problems in that her alignment is way off. Long story short (I just deleted a bunch of stuff that made this way to long) this video covers DD's situation dead on - it's about 4 minutes.

We have some things to still think about relative to DD school / schedule for this (gonna have to be over the summer of 2014) and unfortunately he Orthos we have / are using are no longer in network with my insurance, so we are waiting on a quote :headache: Two major surgeries are staring her right in the face (after 3 previous) and could not be more proud of her strength and toughness though did see a bit of "scared" in her face. Sorry for the downer news, and thanks again to all for your positive thoughts.

Sorry to hear it is worse than thought. Prayers that the process goes well and DD is well soon. Stinks to see our kids have to go through something like this. We are here if you need to talk about it.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Looks like CJ's.:lmao:

Day 2

An early morning wake up call from dd's cell phone. Someone called her at 8:00 AM.

Nothing much scheduled for the day. Everything has been purchased except for the stocking presents from Santa, which I'll go do today. Youngest dd has soccer. The Christmas marathon has been set for next week. Monday features a visit with my Aunt an one place and parents later, Tuesday is all day at DW's Counsin's house where her dad will be, and the the heart attack faking MIL on Wednesday. Thankfully, I'll have more than a week to recover from the Christmas phonies.

Still need to finish up shopping as usual. Since I am working and will be here late today, it looks like Christmas Eve shopping tomorrow after early release.

Afternoon Guys,

I hope you are all having a great Saturday before Christmas.

A good and bad one here. DS has been playing in a basketball tournament and they won the bronze medal. They had two games where they didn't play up to their potential but they were paying up a level from what they have been playing so that was nice to see. They had a shot at first if they had one their last game but missing 16 easy layups makes it hard to win.

The bad was a call from my Mother to say an uncle was being moved to palliative care and he wasn't expected to last the day. It wasn't unexpected as he has been sick for a while now but I do worry about my own Dad. I know it will bother him as he will be the16 brothers and sisters left. I'm sure my uncle will be in a better place so we can take solace in that.

Take care all.

Hey Darcy. Prayers for your uncle and your family.

Have fun storming the castle.
Thanks! We did!
Safe travels, and try the Dole Whip! :thumbsup2
Dole Whip, ehh? Sounds good- I think I'll try one.
:lmao:

Safe travels
Drove through tons of rain on the way down and saw several accidents in the southbound lanes on my way back. But we were safe.

Just seeing this now. That's hysterical. :lmao::lmao::lmao:
I've had a week to think about it and.... nope. The Marty Mcfly / Bears joke still isn't funny.
Going to try to catch a bit of sleep now, as those on the FB know, it's literally just a matter of time now. Dad's lungs can no longer get the required oxygen needed to go on. Was called out to the hospital today around 3 to hurry over. Things suddenly turned around. At one point we wern't sure he'd hang on for my younger brother to make it, but he did and there was a very surreal family moment as Dad said his peace with us all. He has admitted that he's ready to give up the fight, he's done what he could. Back to cracking jokes too, telling stories and giving us instructions what to do. He got down some tea and orange juice. He is at peace with this all. Funniest thing though, is that the blood/oxygen rate etc. has been stable since, but he's pretty much on 100% oxygen now, and drinking liquids are not affecting him like before.

Around 9 or so, my brother and I left the bedside vigil, Dad does not want to break down in front of everyone, and as much as he wants us around, and as much as we want every last minute with him, it's not helping him by us sitting around waiting for the inevitable. My brother and I checked on the house for Mom and and sat there for a bit and cried. Just checked in with my sister, he's still hanging on, but sleeping a lot, and wants it over with now. He's made his peace with everyone.

Right now I'm fairly calm all things considered. I've been a mess a good chunk of the night, but right now I'm back in check. Going to try to sleep a little, the next few days are going to be rough. My brother and I agreed to do what we can to keep it Christmas for the kids. Dad agrees with us, we need to "look after his girls".

Thank you to everyone for helping with the thoughts and prayers, and I know DW is my rock right now, but your support has/is been wonderful. May God bless you, everyone.

Love you Dad...

Brent- So sorry about your loss and tough time last week. No good at all.

Great day of football. Couldn't have predicted most of the games!
Unless you are a Bears fan :furious: Sorry it's the Holidays, not supposed to use that kind of language
Evening guys....been a long day, but tomorrow will likely be longer.

Going to sit up for a while and reflect. Pop open some stong beer, and watch A Christmas Carol. And avoid helping DW wrap gifts. Funeral tomorrow, going to be the hardest.
The Firefighters is very cool and had to be a good laugh when Donald and Deck the Halls broke in :goodvibes Keep staying strong and remember all the great things about your Dad. To you and your family, thoughts & prayers this Holiday Season.
So it's a one day work week for me. Interesting combination of the suckitude of a Monday combined with the excitement of a Friday. Not sure how to feel, except that I feel that I won't be doing a lot of work today. :thumbsup2
Same here plus about a 1/2 day tomorrow as we are open on Christmas Eve and I have almost always been the chief cook to be here on the 24th - so I can let everyone go home earlier than planned ;)

Hope FIL situation gets taken care of as quick as possible - positive thoughts. And yep it has been a real hard time watching DD go through all of this. She has been with Vanderbilt Orthopedics for the first 2 surgeries and then the Tennessee Titans Orthopedic for the 3rd and recent and makes me just want to go back to the first round and ask them WTH?! Thanks to you and everyone else for the support - more to come.

Hey Darcy. Prayers for your uncle and your family.

I hope you Dad gets some relief soon Jim, terrible way to spend Christmas.

Thanks for the prayers. I am saddened to say he passed yesterday morning.

Evening guys....been a long day, but tomorrow will likely be longer.

Was glad about the turnout, especially in the afternoon, despite the situation. A pretty nasty ice storm hit overnight, downing power lines, trees, bursting water mains etc. There are a lot of people without power for the next few days, and prayers for a speedy recovery, incuding Brian. I know a lot of people missed comming out, including a lot of Dad's long time friends, but safety comes first. A lot of firefighters there, and neighbors, and different circles of friends. Even those ho didn't really know him came out, various co-workers of mine and my sister for example. Some very nice floral arrangments too. Say what you want about Walmart, but my sister in law has only worked for them less then two months, they still sent a small arrangement of flowers.

The highlight though was seeing the FireFighters Honour Guard at work. Two would march in and take position on either side and stand at attention for 10 minutes, untill a new pairing came in and relieved them. All done very ceremonial. This went on the whole night till the end when they all took position and presented themselves with a salute to their fallen brother. Dad had his full uniform on too. Very special to see, it definitely caught everyone's attention.

Power went out around 3 halfway through the first vewing, but we kept going. I had brough a set of ipod speakers and hooked my phone to it, to keep playing Dad's Elvis Gospel music he loved and wanted playing. Wish I turned off the ringer though, as someone called and Elvis singing Amazing Grace turned into Donald Duck singing Deck The Halls. :rotfl2: There were skylights, so lots of natural light. Not so at night though, they set up real and fake candles everywhere, and my phone and speakers kept music going. Quieter crowd wise, but far more intimate.

it was a crazy night. Power outages, a fire broke out next door, the storm and ice everywhere....Certainly will never forget this. :upsidedow

Going to sit up for a while and reflect. Pop open some stong beer, and watch A Christmas Carol. And avoid helping DW wrap gifts. Funeral tomorrow, going to be the hardest.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family today. I hope it can be a time of reflection on his positive impacts and a celebration of his life.

I know it may sound bad to talk about summer vaca with the news we got on DD's knee but just finished booking summer at WDW / BCV July 20 - 26. We were going to do Aulani but with looking at surgery / 8 week on crutches & parts being out of network that was out. DD made it clear that she better get some type if DIS vaca (pool and/or beach) this summer after surgery targeted for first week in May. So got DVC points - check, got SW flight points - check so only cost is a couple of days of park tix and food & lots less than Aulani. Se we discussed and Beach Club for more of a relaxing week with only a couple of days at parks at a slow pace. Scheduled for 10 weeks after planned surgery so we may still have to push her around parks but that is why I have DS :lmao:

Randall please feel free to add to front page.

For those traveling over the next week or so, safe travels, to those with the little ones that still believe this time of year soak it all in and enjoy and to those of us with the older kiddos enjoy the Christmas bills :crazy2::lmao:

Merry Christmas!
