There are soooo……many texting acronyms, and I think it depends on your age in regards to how much you use them. There are texting acronyms that my DD21 uses that I didn’t know existed - LOL! (acronym ;)). They do quicken up the texting process, which is nice, so I’m grateful to whoever came up with all these. I Googled what the most popular acronyms are, and this is what I found….

There’s a few that I use that aren’t there, which surprised me. So, now that you see this list, I can ask…….

Which of the following above acronyms do you use when texting?
(multiple choice)

For Me……I don’t use all the acronyms on the list. I do use LOL, OMG, BRB, FYI and ASAP. I prefer to say Happy Birthday and I never think to use OMW & BYW. Ones that I use regularly that aren’t on the list are JK, LMK, TTYL & WTH.

Ah, the complete dissolution of the English language into nothing but shorthand and emoji's. Soon the coming generations will no longer speak and just occasionally grunt at another.

Reverting back to the Cavemen!! :rotfl:

I only use LOL
And as others have said ASAP and FYI way before texting....and I don't use them in texting, but ASAP comes up a lot in crossword puzzles.
I prefer to use my words

I probably use LOL and OMG those most, and occasionally BRB or OMW thanks to DS introducing them to me.

OMG, I use too many of them... like all the time. I am also bad about saying them out loud :rotfl2:

For the longest time (as a joke) I would note accounts and put "ASAP as possible" as a joke... ok well I still do sometimes. Although I wonder now, those who read those notes think I am as dumb as Michael Scott on The Office.

I lean more into emojis than acronyms when texting. My hobby as a writer makes it instinctual for me to use full words and sentences instead of abbreviations. The one I probably use the most is IIRC (if I remember correctly), which is not on the list.

As a Millennial "lol" is part and parcel with us ;) it's pretty much used as a start or end marker of a sentence/conversation

Others btw, fyi, omg are ones I use frequently. omw not as often, asap not as often these days. brb is something I mostly used back in the day when you had AIM and you just had to tell your friends where you'd be for a bit :upsidedow

I have never used hbd

I'm 58 and use them all the time. My favorite of late isn't on the list but it isn't Dis appropriate lol

My most used acronyms are Disney related, most of which I learned here:earsboy:

I find texting annoying and never use the various short-hand acronyms that are around. I can't carry on a rational conversation on texting, my phone screen keyboard is too small, a bit like having to type using a toothpick and takes a LONG time to compose your message. Then you have to go back and proof-read it since the phone will incorrectly 'auto-correct' some words. Most of the time, the phone has inserted the WRONG word..............LOL. By the time I am done texting, I want to throw the phone across the room. I think texting is fine for yes/no questions or to confirm what time we are meeting for lunch. Still rather talk live with someone when I want to have an actual conversation.
